baldur‘s gate 3 is so good, it might be my new skyrim!

there is something truly amazing about baldur‘s gate 3. especially for a queer trans man like me. i‘m not sure what it is, but it feels like in this game, being trans is not out of the ordinary. and everyone is unapologetically queer, it‘s so cool. there seems to be no stigma associated with being lgbtq. i honestly wish that was what real life was like. well, i hope we can make that a reality

- baldur‘s gate 3: game of the year 2023 and deservedly so. it‘s so good, well-written and well-acted. and inclusive. you can choose your body type and your gender identity independently. you can also separately choose your genitals. all romances are open to any gender, but the queerness of the romanceable companions goes beyond playersexuality, with the characters openly talking about past same gender lovers. there are some polyamorous characters that you can date, there are queer couples and everyone is a complex character with many facets.

short list of lgbt-inclusive games that i love (in brackets is the kind of representation):

- cattails and it‘s sequel, cattails: wildwood story (nonbinary, queer in general): these are both great games that warrior cats fans will love. also, every single cat in the game is non binary. everyone is only referred to by they/them and you can have kittens with anyone.

- starfield (nonbinary, bi, same sex relationships, trans): you can choose your pronouns (he, she or they) no matter your body type. you can also always change your body and pronouns for a small fee. some main companions talk about former partners of the same gender, in at least one case, a character references dating men and women. guards may also reference a partner of the same gender.

- skyrim (same sex relationships for player, gay): you can marry regardless of gender and adopt kids with your spouse. there is a dead gay couple. (this will be the only game with so little representation on this list. i included it because i love skyrim, because you can make it gayer with mods and because it is from 2011 so i don‘t have high expectations)

- ikenfell (nonbinary, queer relationships, neopronouns): a really fun rpg with a fun combat system. also very queer, every character has their pronouns listed and there are nonbinary people with they/them, ze/zir and even he/him pronouns. i haven‘t quite finished playing through it yet, but there are all kinds of queer relationships. oh and you save the game by petting cats

- wandersong (queer relationships, gender nonconformity, nonbinary): a really unique and wholesome game about a bard that wants to save the world. it has an amazing story and some of the most well written characters i have ever encountered. the bard is nonbinary and uses all pronouns and there is a noteworthy nonbinary character whose story doesn‘t revolve around them being nonbinary. they are fully accepted. there are plenty of queer relationships. there are mermaids with beard stubble.

- a short hike (nonbinary): an amazingly fun game that actually feels like a holiday. it also has a super fast turtle that goes by they/them pronouns

- shovel knight (queer relationships, trans, nonbinary): fun platformer that allows you to choose your body type (male/female) and your pronouns (he/she/they) independently from one another. you can also do the same for all bosses and your love interest.

- squidlit and super squidlit: really fun gameboy style games that were created by independent trans developers.

i should not have bought baldur‘s gate 3. it‘s messing with my sleep schedule more than any game since i was a kid

baldur’s gate 3 reminded me that i just cannot resist a flamboyant queer man. you know, in hindsight, my teenage crushes should have made me question my gender much earlier.

in case you have the same issue as me with the new update of skyrim. i tried to downgrade but it would immediately crash. well, here is the answer:

download the following mods to downgrade:

- the downgrade patcher (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/57618?tab=files)

-> just choose the version you want to go back to. it‘s an exe file that will do the hard work for you. you can do it manually, but it‘s faster and easier with the patcher

- Backported Extended ESL Support (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/106441)

-> this mod will fix the crash that happens even before the main menu. the issue is that bethesda included a file that is incompatible with the previous versions of skyrim. that causes the game to crash if you downgrade. the downgrade can‘t remove the file. this mod makes older skyrim versions compatible with it.

i finally managed to get my game running again, thanks to amazing mod authors and support from reddit and nexus users. thought i‘d share, just in case it might help someone

in case you didn‘t know, in vanilla skyrim, you will not see female imperial guards or soldiers. or so many people think. but i just found one! in helgen! one of the imperial battlemages is a woman! these pictures were taken on my switch, so obviously no mods at all.

i thought i would be clever and play oldrim to avoid fixing the mess todd caused with the new update. and now it crashes whenever i use the door of the inn in dawnstar. oh and sometimes it crashes for no reason at all. because of course it does.

i think fate is trying to get me to play baldur‘s gate 3.

so, my skyrim se seems to be broken. despite updating all mods that complained, the game crashes before even reaching the opening menu. because of that, i don’t even get a crashlog. downgrading also didn’t fix it. so, time to disable all my mods and reenable them one by one to try and figure out what is breaking this stupid mess of a software.

or, you know, just play my oldrim. i actually think this might be the perfect time to restart my blue-scales save file and hope it won‘t break again

uuhh good idea. i actually made some gay mudrabs before (https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/96254), but i think i might actually create a better version or some more flag options in the future

btw, if you have any ideas for mods that would be funny or things that should be retextured in pride colours, i would love to hear it. i have no clue what i‘m doing, but i am open to try and figure stuff out for the meme or just to make one person smile and feel special. making mods for skyrim (and starfield, as soon as someone gives me a retexture idea or the creation kit is released) is a way i can creatively express myself
