apologies on the late reply.

first off, yikes. that had to have sucked. and you bring up an excellent point. I was so focused on jedipirateking's whole attitude rubbing me the wrong way, how behavior like that could affect someone so negatively to the point of giving up never even crossed my mind. which now makes me less sympathetic towards his whole stance. because now that I think about it, his response not only to my comment but also how he reacts whenever someone acts harshly critical to him the way he did to another not to mention he has yet to reply further to my reblog post, I'm starting to get the impression he's another one of those individuals that can't take what they dish out. kinda like, I don't know, a fanbrat.

DPxDC and OOC

I've had a couple of posts cross my dash recently where people lament that a lot of the dpxdc fandom writes characters very OOC and how we're proliferating these characterizations among each other. I figured I'd add my own two cents.

I think the fundamental discrepancy comes from trying to reconcile two canons with vastly different tones.

Danny Phantom is a comedy superhero show operating on cartoon logic. Why do ghost experts Jack and Maddie never realize their own kid is a ghost? Why is the status quo restored at the end of every episode? Why does Danny shoot an ectoblast out of his butt that one time? Because it's funny. It's cartoony action fun where the plot is resolved in 22 minutes, there's never any lasting consequences and it's aimed at kids.

DC meanwhile wants to be taken Seriously. Heroes get beaten within an inch of their life, traumatized, killed and even the good guys do messed up things (often to each other). Yes there's action and puns, but also horrific violence, actions have consequences and it's (mostly) aimed at adults. When a main character dies the comics show their family and friends mourning and things are very dramatic. Even though at this point we, the audience can pretty much expect every death to be undone within 2-5 years of publishing, but I digress.

So how do we, the fanfic/fanart creators reconcile these differences when we make our crossovers? We either make DP more serious and somber, or we make DC more comedic.

Suddenly we have a DP verse where the Fentons' bumbling obliviousness is elevated to serious neglect or outright abuse. The GiW are no longer a minor annoyance, they are a serious threat with genocidal plans and a desire to vivisect the protagonist. When actions have consequences, we imagine Danny as dealing with serious PTSD from having to be a solo superhero and witnessing his family's death that one time (and maybe also getting vivisected). Danny is not just a teen superhero, he's now the Ghost King with serious responsibility on his shoulders.

On the flipside, if we make DC more comedic we tend to exaggerate character traits for comedic effect, focus more on the interpersonal dynamics (especially the Batfam) and have the characters act more casual and silly. Suddenly the Batfam goes from a group of seriously messed up individuals who have trouble communicating with each other and fight all the time to Batdad "Kids if you don't stop killing criminals you won't get dessert ffs" Bruce. Violence is played for laughs instead of taken seriously. Yeah they fight, but they still Love Each Other.

And THIS IS PERFECTLY FINE. It's transformative work! And trying to reconcile these disparate fandoms is hard! Fandom is a labor of love. We do it for free. We do it for our own entertainment. And no one is forcing you to read fics you don't like. DLDR and all that.

AAHH! finally I found it!

I really gotta stop letting my likes pileup like this. cause scrolling for all eternity just to find one specific post is NOT fun.

Another thing my roommate pointed out to me is that if Danny is Bruce’s clone then he would be able to get into all of Bruce’s fingerprint/eye scanner locked shit!!!

Like Danny is half asleep and Tim and Jason enter his room and are like, “hey Danny, we need your thumb for a second.” And Danny is like, “wha- yeah sure whatever.”

But then I countered my roommates thought with: but what if since Danny is a ghost—and not bound by human body function—can detach and reattach his body parts!

And so when Tim and Jason barge into Danny’s room and is like, “hey Danny, we need your thumb for something.” And Danny is like, “yeah whatever.” And fuckin’ detaches his whole hand and just throws it at them before plopping back down onto his pillow.

Tim starts screaming before Janson shuts Tim’s mouth and grabs the hand, saying, “we don’t have time for this, shut your mouth and let’s go.”

Rise of the BROtps

You know those ships that are super popular but aren’t canon? You know, the ones who’s shippers don’t understand the difference between canon and headcanon? They’re usually 2 males that are friends and show affection for one another, males that don’t even know the meaning of “toxic masculinity”. If you don’t ship them you get accused of homophobia? Yeah, well my new hobby is gonna be writing a whole bunch of platonic shit for those ships. Knowing myself I’ll probably do an anti piece every now and again but I’m mostly just gonna write wholesome platonic content that shippers aren’t allowed to interact with.

TimKon, BirdFlash, DamiJon, JayRoy, SuperBat… I’m coming for your asses :D

You know what I have yet to see in any fics where Danny is biologically related to either Bruce and Damian or one of the other batboys? The Mansons attempting to use that to their advantage and enhance their public image.

Either by spouting false praises and lying about being in Danny's corner while interacting with Bruce and his sons, or after discovering Danny's true heritage being the ones to take him in after a bad reveal in the hopes of getting into Bruce's inner circle.

Many usually gravitate towards Vlad as the abusive foster or guardian Danny needs to be rescued from, but his best friend's snooty parents that regularly look down on him just because of the elder Fenton's antics and reputation would do just as nicely.

Just imagine the comedy gold of Jeremy and Pamela barely masking their disdain for their daughter's "troubled friend" by pretending to dote on him while in Bruce's presence during a gala. Not realizing that Bruce along with every other Wayne in attendance can see right through them and is simply humoring them as well as biding his time.

Or if angst (hopefully followed by some comfort) is more your thing maybe have Danny, still reeling from Jack and Maddy's rejection latch on to the Mansons out of desperation for an adult he can trust and start believing they've had a genuine change of heart and come to care for him despite both Sam and Ida continually telling him otherwise. Only to feel the sting of betrayal a second time when while at a gathering Bruce or one of his boys approaches and tells him the Mansons are just using him to get in their good graces then show proof when Danny tries to deny it.

Inspired by this because I thought that an otherworldly entity speaking obscenities through a child be FUNNY.

When Danny defeated Pirah Dark, he didn't become Ghost King, nor the Prince, instead.

He got another passenger in his head.

It's like, Pirah Dark is somehow astral projecting his thoughts to Danny, and Danny doesn't know why. He does not need the commentary of an eons old Ghost King stuck in his head thank you very much.

Then it got even worse when said Ghost King managed to astral project a small piece of himself that just, hangs around Danny 24/7.

Which nobody but him could see.

How the hell did he even manage that when he's a damn ghost for ancient's sake, he didn't know.

He' just gotten used to him, at this point.

One thing he's learned about Pirah Dark, however, is that said ghost has an extreme competitive streak.

Most of his newfound obscene vocabulary came from him. Not that he could use said vocabulary, mind you, because his mother would have his head in that case.

But still.

The number of games Pirah took over from him and progressed fast through was... both inspiring and somewhat insulting.

But anyways.

Until he got summoned by cultists, because apparently having a small piece of the Ghost King floating around him 24/7 is enough for him to get summoned in his place, and Pirah's eyes landed on one guy in a coat.

Well.

He didn't even know like 90% of the words he used could be profanity.

Then he expected him to say all of that to some guy he doesn't even know. He sweat dropped, because, while physically he could say all of those words, his mother has a sixth sense when it comes to such things.

Curse a guy out word for word by a Ghost King and face his mother's wrath for saying such words, or decidedly don't do that and not face his mother's wrath?

He'll take the second option, thank you.

I'll Make You Believe

While the whole "asking a ghost how they died is the worst taboo ever, so don't do it or you'll be in a world of hurt" headcanon is always fun to implement to either create temporary conflict or simply move the story along, I think it'd work just as well on both ends if it was only a minor offense.

Like if you were to ask a once living ecto being how they died the most negative response you'd get would either be some variation of "None of your business puny mortal" or an explanation using the most vividly graphic, stomach turning details as an act of petty revenge as well as insurance you never ask again.

So what could possibly be a way more serious, far more dangerous no-no when it comes to ghosts instead? Well, how about stating ghosts don't exist/there's no such things as ghosts? The reason why being you're invalidating the trauma they've experienced in their last moments.

Makes no difference whether you were aware of this or not. If they find out or worse, it's said to their face? You better hope they'll settle for beating you black-and-blue. Because the alternative is becoming a ghost yourself by the time they're done with you.

Now in dpxyj fics when Danny interacts with Wally and the whole "ghost are/aren't real" argument between them comes into play it's usually depicted as a trivial disagreement. But what if you were to make it more angsty by inserting this take on lack of ghostly etiquette?

Let's say after getting to know his teammates better Danny starts talking about his origins (in vague detail) and exploits, only to eventually be interrupted by Kid Flash declaring that he can't possibly be a ghost as they don't exist. And Robin, Aqualad, Miss Martian, and Superboy all become quite alarmed watching Danny go from easygoing to looking ready to beat Kid Flash to a pulp, as he's now fighting back his ghostly nature. To avoid giving in to the urge he abruptly leaves with a dismissive attitude, much to KF's confusion.

From there it spirals. KF, not realizing he's poking a hornets nest continuing to voice his skepticism whenever the opportunity comes up and each time Danny barely manages to keep it together. Until one day Danny in an explosive rage snatches up KF and in a tone colder than ice tells him he knows what he is, what he went through to reach that state, and that he has no need to justify any of it to him.

Then he leaves once more before he really loses it. Before going after him Miss Martian informs KF of how Danny opened his mind to her and that for his sake she hopes he never shares those memories of what he went through with him. Feeling bad now, KF tries to apologize once Danny returns. Which results in failure again and again since Danny keeps giving him the cold shoulder.

After having yet another apology disregarded KF, in mounting frustration blurts out that he wishes he understood what has Danny so convinced he's a ghost, unaware a certain wish twisting genie he was warned about had been invisibly lurking in the vicinity the instant Danny was elsewhere. Along with the rest of the regulars, as soon as KF's denials had spread to the Ghost Zone Desiree was on the warpath, intent on showing just how real ghosts truly were. By sheer spite and determination she beat everyone else to him, just in time to hear him say the forbidden word, presenting her with the perfect means of retribution.

With a "So you have wished it so shall it be" KF is magically transported to an underwater submarine, occupied by Black Manta. Unable to run as freely without potentially damaging the sub and causing it to flood, the fight upon his unexpected arrival is drawn out to the point KF starts to feel his hyper metabolism weakening him. It's when he's close to dying of starvation that one of the more incompetent goons sends him crashing into the stash of ectoplasm Manta had smuggled with the intent of using it to pollute the waters of Aquaman's Kingdom. The last thing KF sees before blacking out is Desiree looming over him with a smirk of satisfaction.

@jedipirateking ok, took some time to get my thoughts together. so hopefully I'll be able to get my point across clearly without any sugarcoating while not coming across as an outright bitch.

I get it. it is pretty annoying seeing your favorite characters portrayed in a seemingly mean spirited non-flattering light while propping up other characters in the process. I experience similar feelings of irritation when it comes to some Batman Beyond/Batman fanfic crossovers.(if you can even call it that given they both come from the same franchise)

that said, this is where our common ground ends. because though I sympathize with your frustration it's not enough to overlook the attitude you had that first put you on my radar. now to be perfectly clear, I'm in no way condoning anyone that thought gloating over you being homeless was justifiable in any way. that was taking things way too far and completely uncalled for.

but I have to ask, when you come onto a dpxdc post and act like a entitled, condescending, canon nazi fanbrat the way you did here:

strangely, Damian chasing after Dash for trying to shove him in a locker put a picture in my mind of him screaming at the top of his lungs while in a berserker fury. like X-23 from the "Logan" movie.

Haven't posted a prompt in a hot minute, let's fix that.

We all know the DC universe is pretty complicated compared to the Dp universe (I'm trying to find a place to start reading the comics but theres 80 years of content to filter through lord help me 😭)

DC has hundreds of heroes and villains running around while DP only has a few.

Let's toss that DC into Dp >:)

Imagine how shellshockingly horrifying it would be for any of the DC crew to travel to the DP universe? Like they've seen post apocalyptic universes, how is this not one of them??

Imagine the world's greatest detectives seeing the utter miracle that is "Phantom's secret identity" they pin him as Danny Fenton immediately as would anyone with experience with the concept of revival.

Let Superman get chased by the Giw. While Clark Kent and Louis lane tear apart their shoddy, biased research as the best journalists the DP universe has ever seen!

Have Danny have a grudge with this random reporter because his article on explosive burger sauce got his favorite restaurant closed. While Clark is desperately to boost Phantom's reputation after the smear campaigns wrecked it.

Let Vlad get torn apart by every flavor of superhero for being an all around creep. Dani/Konner bonding over being clones.

Have danny be an avid fan of Damian, not because he's Robin but because he chased down Dash after he tried to shove him in a locker!

Constantine trying to scam ghosts without the bargaining chip of a soul. Danny and the rest of the trio cackling because it's working and the ghosts are pissed.

Danny's rogues are getting bullied left right and center because both villains and hero's are shooting snarky comments with twice the venom as Danny.

Spectra going after Tim and Damian because she thinks they'll be easy targets due to their seemingly hostile relationship. They team up to tear into her the moment this random therapist tries to insinuate that Dick said he wished the two of them were never brought into the family.

Desiree catching so many people off guard and ruining so many days with her monkey pawing until they turn her wishes around on her.

Have the DC heroes be competent and smart enough to outplay ghosts that are stronger than them.

As Little Baby Man Danny likes to "suckle" on certain areas of someone's skin when he's sad, scared or upset, just like a kitten separated from their mother too soon. Three emotions he's feeling plenty of after his parents not only dragged him away from Amity Park to Metropolis for an interview with a certain Daily Planet reporter, but also targeted him as Phantom with a new faulty invention the moment they saw him helping Superman take down Lex Luthor.

The goods news? Instead of dialing back his power levels to the time he first became half ghost like it was designed to do, the device merely changes him into that more diminutive form. Plus Superman whisks him away to safety before Jack and Maddy can get their hands on him.

The bad news? He has no idea how long he'll be stuck like this or if the effect will even wear off eventually. Every time all that uncertainty gets to be too much for his tiny body to contain he resorts to seeking out one of the Superfam and sucking at their hands and fingers, as well as their face, ears or neck as a method of comfort. All of the Superfam, especially Lois and Jon absolutely love it. Well, all of them minus Clark, Connor and Kara.

As is, they either barely tolerate it or outright refuse to indulge LBM. At first everyone else is convinced they're just being mean. Until the three finally swallow their pride and reveal the most horrific unsightly bruises ever to be seen that they've been hiding.

Bruce leaves Luthor alone for the most part out of solidarity because they went to the same out-of-state rich kid boarding school, and Luthor's not Gotham's business. The moment he steps foot into Gotham though, the solidarity disappears; Bruce watches as Tim drags him for filth on the business level and doesn't stop his other kids from dragging Luthor for filth publicly. He's just airhead Brucie Wayne, after all, he can't control what his little sweethearts do, and "Oof, sorry about them, but Tim's always been so spirited, and so engaged in the business aspect of things that he's never taken well to competitors, y'know? And my other little darlings have never been fond of Metropolitans in Gotham, but no harm no foul, right?" Meanwhile Luthor is half bankrupt and backs out of Gotham incredibly quickly

Yall know that tweet that goes " sometimes I'll pretend not to know basic things so men will explain it to me, just to see how stupid they think I am" That's bruce and lex.

My favorite, favorite, favorite, headcannon is the Wayne family visiting Metropolis, specifically to any of Lex Luthor's fancy rich people events. And the bat kids all being well behaved and polite in front of people but as soon as they're out of public view CHAOS, MENACES TO SOCIETY!! And the only one to ever see any of this is Lex himself but NOBODY believes him 🤣🤣🤣

Of course Bruce knows. Like obviously they're his kids. But there is just something sooo satisfying in seeing Lex slowly go insane as he desperately tries to prove Cass dumped a whole plate of shrimp cocktails onto his lap, or that Dick was now swinging on top of the chandelier again, or that Damien had snuck an animal into the party, or that Steph was trying to stuff the entirety of the dessert table into her purse.

No, no...instead Brucie does what he does best; he plays dumb 😈

Bruce, having full well witnessed his children cause all the chaos: My children did this, you say? My precious angels? 🥺💕 My darling babies that can do no wrong? 🥺💕 That's absurd Lexie! 😤 Absolute nonsense! 😤 How could you accuse my perfect little darlings of such horrible, rude things? 😡 I guess WE will be taking our funding and resources elsewhere if you're just going to keep making these false accusations! 😤😡😤😡
