okay, i'm breaking my own heart here but i have to share this thought. so, imagine relativity falls pines twines. mabel and dipper are identical twins, and dippers a tguy. he told mabel when they were young, has grown up knowing he's a boy. but they're growing up in the 60s and 70s, obviously shits not gonna be good. so dipper gets bullied a lot for that as well as the general nerdy stuff. mabel, obviously, protects him.

but in any situation of relativity falls, they have to have these shit ass parents to make the switch feel right. not filbrick, perhaps, but mr pines is shit. he only puts up with dipper being trans because he thinks dippers going to become a millionaire one day.

after mabel gets kicked out, the leinency he's given grows thinner. every time he asks to be called dipper, his father's hand clenches. his mother buys him dresses, saying "just in case you change your mind!" it's all hell.

so when mabel comes to gravity falls, when they fight, that's another added layer of bitterness for dipper to have. that after mabel was kicked out, after they didn't have a daughter around anymore, they were harder on him for being trans. it breaks mabel's heart to hear, because no matter how fucking mad she was at any point, she never once considered dipper as anything but her brother.

then dipper falls in the portal. and the thing is.. his hair grew out a bit in his manic paranoia towards the end, and no one in town really knew him much, so they still mistake mabel for dipper. and mabel is technically wanted in most states, and she really needs the money..

it's the worst thing she ever does. worse than pushing dipper into that portal, worse than breaking his project, worse than any of the crimes. it's the thing she will always feel the most guilt over for her whole goddamn life. but she does it anyway. she takes up his identity. she fakes her own death. their father tells her it's a good thing she "grew out of that nonsense". her mother, while a bit more tactful, sends over a box of dresses she thinks would suit her.

when the stan twins come to visit gravity falls, they call her "grauntie may", and she runs the shack with a mix of whimsy and scamming skills. every time anyone calls her by the name that was dipper's birthname she goes entirely tense, no matter how many years it's been, and inists that they call her may.

when dipper comes back, first he's mad about the whole portal-project-bill thing as ford was. because dippers obviously not going by his deadname, it takes a while longer for him to find out. but it does come out eventually. someone calls mabel by the name dipper was born with and they both go still. dipper goes pale.

mabel starts apologizing before dipper even gets a word out. but he doesn't even seem to hear it, seething and stark-white and horrified. he goes down to the lab and screams himself hoarse over it, not wanting the kids to hear him cursing her out.

he kicks her out, same as ford did to stan. "after the summer is over, you're getting out of my house and letting me get back to my life." but she doesn't even protest, sure she deserves it after doing this to him. after letting everyone believe he'd had some phase, that they were all right about him. stealing his identity and his house and the name that wasn't his but still belonged to him more than her. she doesn't argue, just agrees and swears she'll be gone right after the kids leave.

the switching places scene goes the same. she tucks her hair under dipper's trench coat, and dipper pretends to have long hair tied under mabel's hat. she lowers her voice to sound more like him, and bill buys it hook line and sinker.

when mabel has no memories, she regains them a bit slowly, so it takes her a while to remember that dipper is trans. she asks if they used to have a sister, since her youngest memories involve her and another girl. dipper tells her that was him, and she immediately is with it. when she remembers what she did, she tries to kick herself out of the house. the boys are still there, adn the stans do not understand why grauntie may is crying so hard.

dipper sends them away, and tells mabel that while he doesn't exactly forgive it, he understands that she was in a rough spot. he hates that their parents died thinking they were right about him, but he also didn't really have that strong opinions of them, doesn't give a shit what their father thinks. it's all a mess. but he hugs mabel tight and says he doesn't give a shit anymore, frnankly. he refuses to lose his sister again, and nothing she has done or ever will do is enough to get him away from her.

just.. i dunno. i think it's a copout not to have her take his identity like stan took ford's, but i think that it's so much more devastating in this context.

i love the idea that madhel, in their immortality, just soend years not talking to each other and forget its not normal. like theyre in love but they still can really fucking fight sometimes, so sometimes they take a little time apart to avoid shooting each other again or whatever. like mad will be talking to someone and be like "yes, i am in a relationship. my girlfriend is driving me crazy right now though, so i haven't seen her in like a decade."

cant get this everlark au idea out of my head. peeta and katniss grew up enxt door to each other, lived in each others pockets. from toddlerhood to middle school, but people started teasing peeta about it, being friends with a girl, so katniss (fresh after losing her father) started ignoring him bc she thought it would be easier for him. they spend high school ignoring each other despite missing each other deperately and having unsubtle crushes on each other that their friends never stopped teasing them about.

when they go off to college, they figure that's it. they missed their chance, since they both assume the other is going off to achieve their dream. peeta assumes katniss is going off to be a nurse in a big city, get out of town and help people, but she attends community college night classes in town while working as much as possible to save money for prim's college. she assumes he's gone off to art school to be fantastic like she always knew he would be, find a beautiful, normal, not broken wife and never spare her a thought, but he goes to business school to take over the bakery and thinks of her every day.

they don't run into each other again until years later. when they're both grown adults, single parents, and their kids get into a fight at school. they're astonished to see each other, and while they get their kids to apologize and make amends, the kids end up wanting to be friends. so suddenly they're seeing each other all the time, and it's so easy to fall back into old patterns, to talk constantly, to let themselves both fall back into love.

their kids are the flower girl and ring bearer a little less than a year later.

anthony bridgerton (bridgerton) - protective of his family, charasmatic, kind of a playboy but also an intense loveryboy at the same time

rachel green (friends) - kind of spoiled but wants to grwo, self-absorbed and confident in himself, loyal friend who loves his people

jamie tartt (ted lasso) - egotistical, emotionally stunted, but at the core of all that kind of emotionally stunted and hopeful to learn

daring charming (ever after high) - bit of a shithead, flirts with anything that moves, doesn't realize that he's kind of a dick to his younger sibling
