Why is it that when I tell my family I'm probably going to call my doctor about chronic chest pain, they insist it's only anxiety?

It's not like I haven't felt stress/anxiety/panic-caused chest pain before. I've had the attacks, I felt them all through college, I know what that pain feels like. This physically feels completely different. This is in the center of my sternum, sometimes off to the right. It's electric and stabbing, gets worse when I breathe, gets worse when I lean over, and I can feel it in my throat. It's nearly constant today.

When I saw my doctor in March about it he told me he could refer me to orthopedics but "they'd probably just have a PA look at you", so just keep him posted if it gets worse. Okay, it's worse! Sign me up. I want to know why this is happening.

But then I tell my mom about it, and she says "well you have been very anxious lately." No?? I haven't?? And my sister is sitting right there and just says "oh yeah you have." I don't talk to you that much, how would you know? These kind of comments and dismissal are exactly why I haven’t sought treatment for chronic pain for years. Now that it's gotten significantly worse over a short period of time I'm getting really worried, and want to seek medical help, and this is what my support system says?

I feel so deflated by what they said, but I know I shouldn't. I'm going to call my doctor either way, but... is it that bad for me to want someone close to me to say "yes, you should not live in daily pain, go see your doctor"?

Another staple of clone trooper holonet culture is, of course, lightly dunking on your superior officers. This is not typically regarded as insubordination when it stays on the holonet, but certain insults have developed a staying-power both offnet and onnet.
