I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!

The problem w writing fiction is that you'll be like tee-hee I'm going to write a story about a fucked up little scenario that's got nothing to do with anything in real life, just some pure messed up nonsense, and then you finish it and take a step back and go aw rats I made a metaphor again

Accidental Love Confessions
Just looking at them and suddenly blurting out 'I love you'
Causally saying I love you when the other person has done something really great for them and it wouldn't be awkward if they were just friends, but this makes them realize they're not
Confessing in the middle of a stupid fight
A drunken love confession that gets questioned and then repeated sober
While comforting the other one, who is saying that they are unloved, the other protests that they are definitely not
Exhausted, they are half asleep while saying good night, and an "I love you" slips out
During a very stressful situation, one screams "I care about you, can't you see that I love you?"
Whispering "I love you" in a really dramatic situation and then second-guessing if the other person heard and how they feel
Saying "you're lucky I love you" and realizing too late what they said
Confession via text, either through technology or oldschool pen on paper, but they didn't actually want to send it

you know you’re a writer when…
you spend 30 minutes choosing the perfect synonym for “said” only to change it back to “said.”
you google “how long does it take to bleed out” at 3 a.m. and now the FBI is probably watching you.
you write one sentence, stare at it, rewrite it 14 times, and somehow end up back at the original version.
“this scene is so important” but you have no idea what the scene actually is or why it’s important.
you come up with the best story ideas… in the shower… with no way to write them down.
your characters feel like real people but also you’re like “who are these guys and what do they want from me?”
your brain says start writing!” but instead you reorganize your desk, reread your notes, and spend two hours naming a side character who shows up once.
you’ve cried over your WIP exactly 67 times and will do it again because the pain is the point.
you reread something you wrote and think, “wow, did i peak as a writer three months ago?”
every writing session begins with the sacred ritual of scrolling social media, opening unnecessary tabs, and procrastinating until panic sets in.
you have no idea how long a chapter should be, so you just… vibe.
you can’t watch tv or movies without mentally critiquing the plot, dialogue, and pacing.
your writing playlist is 98% vibes, 2% songs you’ll actually listen to while writing.
you keep a “murder notebook” but swear it’s not suspicious because it’s for your novel (probably).
the phrase “just one more draft” is your eternal mantra, even though you’ve rewritten this thing more times than you can count.

How do you write time travel. I have a general plan, but yeah...
Hi!! Sorry this took so long to get to, but here's some advice!
know the main events of whatever time you thrust your character into. do some research on what happened in that year you sent them to.
if your character causes a big change, try to research what that change would cause. like if they prevented the burning of the Alexandria library, what would have changed in their current time from that?
don't just look up history facts either; deep dive into clothes commonly worn for each class, what the conversations were like, living conditions, etc.
how the time travel happens is up to you, but if it is science based, do some basic research on how that could be potentially possible and expand on it.
if the time travel is magic-based, have a detailed magic system!! it makes everything better and more believable.
have some rules for you mc to follow. can't just have them running around willy-nilly through time! give them things they can and can't do, and consequences.
basically: research everything you could possibly need to know about the time they are going to be in. it'll help flesh out the world building and make the scenes more realistic.
This feels pretty bare-bones, but I think that covers the big topics. I hope this helps!!

Women's romance: The most degenerate things known to man
Men's romance: I want someone that I can hold, will hold me, and love me all my life
Personally, if that's the categories, I prefer men's romance.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

Get to Know Your Character #2
More asks!
What good/bad traits do they bring out in others?
What views do they have that differ from/contradict those of the other characters?
What would be their reason for causing a scene in public?
What qualities do they look for or value in a partner/friend?
What do they consider red flags in a partner/friend?
What is something you should never do to them?
What is their most important or enforced boundary?
What would break them?
What would push them to physical altercation or violence during an argument?
How do they act in their worst moments?
What embarrasses them the most?
What joke would amuse them?
What does it take to gain their trust?
In what scenario would they feel most comfortable?
In what scenario would they feel most uncomfortable?
How do they take criticism?
What part of their past are they most ashamed of?
What part of their past are they most proud of?
What do they believe is the worst fate one can befall?
How do they view death?

There's a healthy version of possessiveness and jealousy. And an unhealthy version. I'm sick and tired of the two being conflated.
I assume you are the anon that sent the Character A is what Character B needs, but Character B hurts Character A's feelings ask.
I apologize, but you said that that one character was what the other needed, but they were hurting the first character. To me, that sounds toxic.
And if you are not, I greatly apologize <3. I agree with you though, there is a healthy version! i made a post about it in another asnwered ask. you should be able to find it if you search "ask" on my blog!

How to write deities that actually feel like deities. And not what worlds like PJO, Kane Chronicles, Supernatural, etc did
Hi! This is a good ask, I'll try my best!
Definitely ensure the power scaling never falls to the wayside in your creation of the world. They are the most powerful beings (usually) in the world, make sure that comes across.
A healthy dose of respect intermixed with fear should be present in the characters when they mention the deities. Even if they're angry at the deity, they would still fear the consequences of their anger if they ever directed it at the deity.
The deities are not human. They are not going to act human.
Even if they have human-like traits or features, they will not have the same feelings on mortality, relationships, or morals as humans would.
In that vein, deities wouldn't abide by human-made laws. They would have entirely different views on the same thing. A devastating war? Just an oopsie and a loss of some humans to them.
They don't age like humans, so they don't view timelines like humans do. Fifty years is nothing to them.
When interacting with humans, make sure to capture the sheer terror that would bring even the most devout followers. If a deity came down to speak to you, you would be terrified, and so would your characters.
That's all I can really think of right now, but she-who-fights-and-writes has a great post on this too!

Writing prompt
Person A: "You've changed"
Person B: "People are supposed to"
Person A: "Yeah, but not for the worse."
Tumblr media
"You changed." Prompts:
"You've changed." "People are supposed to." "Yeah, but not for the worse."
"You changed." "I had to."
"You seriously thought we would be the same after so many years? People change."
"Why do things have to be different now? Everything was perfect."
"Just stay the same." "You know I can't promise that." "Please."
"What happened to you?" "Nothing you didn't know about before. I decided it was time for a change."
"Don't do this. This isn't like you." "It is now."
"You... you changed. You aren't the person I fell in love with." "As if you're the same."
"You don't need to change anything. You're perfect how you are." "If I don't do something drastic, we aren't going to survive."
"Why are you doing this? Don't you care?" "I do. Just not the way I used to."
Bonus:
"You changed?" "Yeah." "That's the third outfit in two hours??"

Writing prompt:
Person A is what Person B needs, but
Person B is toxic and damaging to Person A
Hm. Honestly, I don't think I've ever read anything like that. It isn't something I greatly enjoy seeing in fiction, since it's very toxic and painful to consume/watch. However, I do have a few prompt lists I can point you to that are in that vein!
a cure for writer's block take on how to write a toxic relationship
horrificmemes on rotten relationship starters
creative writing prompts masterlist on bad romances
Hopefully that was helpful! Sorry if it wasn't.
