Oooh 😯 I think I understand what Twst was doing with the initial card art now, they were setting it up for the tummy tease in the groovy. I still see some people disappointed that Leona's not full-on shirtless (or showing substantially more skin), and while that's their right to feel the way that they do, I'm pretty satisfied with this.

I like that Twst focused on really making Leona's initial art + groovy look super candid and natural. He's not concerned with looking like a model, he just wants to be relaxed and comfortable in his own skin. Squinting into the sun, scratching himself, hair a whole mess, making an unflattering face as he brushes hit teeth... This really gives the vibes of a grumpy uncle that just dragged himself out of bed (because he did) and can't be asked to talk to you until he's had his morning cup of joe. It feels raw, real, and relatable.

AHHHHH, the messy hair in his alt look looks SO good. I kinda want to play with it— In the groovy, the hair does make him seem like a different person… A little older, a little wiser 😂 The vignettes + voice lines associated with the card tell us that Leona takes good care of his hair (he uses a special oil for it!) because having a majestic mane is a sign of strength. I think that’s shown well in how his hair, even when he has just woken up, has such a nice texture, shine, and flow to it.

There's such subtle appeal in what Twst does choose to show and to focus on. His lion's teeth, the forearms, the little peak of abs and cleavage... It's like going to a grocery store and getting a sample of some product they're trying to shill to you. Well, you try the sample and find you like the taste, so you end up committing to buying the full size. That's what this feels like. Twst is handing us a sample so we become more invested in the character. Not just his looks, but also his personality (which comes through very strongly in the vignettes; I will talk about this in a separate post since I was asked about it). Again, I think there's no need to have a character flaunt it all, there is so much more that can be achieved if you keep the clothes on and play your cards right. Ironically, I think Leona would agree with that sentiment; he's not usually one to go for the direct methods anyway/j

I've been thinking about Leona and Falena.I thought what if Leona didn't know about how much weight and exceptions Falena had to deal with since he was born. After his eyelids and eyebrows lifted, the change occurred in a matter of seconds, a wide grin appears on his lips. Oh my, Leona needs a chair to watch this performance.
