I know I'm preaching to the choir but like. You know you can wear masks for other sicknesses. Not just covid. If you have the flu or a cold or a stomach bug you can still wear a mask to help prevent the spread of it to others if you insist on going out! I just think it's the polite thing to do

Okay I’m currently furious that migraines are often so blindly easy to treat and I had to find this out myself at the age of 26 when I’ve been to a neurologist since I was 11 lol so I’m about to teach you two neat and fast little tricks to deal with pain!

The first is the sternocleidomastoid muscle, or the SCM muscle.

This big red section is responsible for pain around the eye, cheekbone, and jaw, as well as some temple pain. Literally all you have to do is angle your head down a little, angle it away from the side that hurts, and then you can gently pinch and rub that muscle. I find it best to start at the bottom and travel upwards. The relief is so immediate! You can increase pressure as you feel comfortable doing so.

The second is a fast and easy stretch that soothes your vagus nerve, which is the nerve responsible for calming you down. The vagus nerve, for those unfamiliar, is stimulated by deep breathing such as yawning, sighing, singing, or taking a deep breath to calm your anger in a tense situation.

You can stretch this out by sitting up as straight as possible (this does not have to be perfect to work) and interlacing your fingers. Put your hands on the back of your head with your thumbs going down the sides of your neck and, while keeping your face forward, look all the way to one side with just your eyes. Hold that until you feel the urge to breathe deeply or yawn, or until you can tell there’s a change. Then do the same thing on the other side. When you put your arms down, you should clearly be able to turn your head farther in both directions. If the first session doesn’t get rid of your migraine, rest and repeat as many times as necessary. I even get a little fancy with it and roll my eyes up and down along the outer edge sometimes to stretch as much as I can.

If you need a visual here’s a good video on it. I know some of the language they use seems questionable but this is real and simple science and should not be discarded because it’s been adopted by the trendy wellness crowd!

I seriously cannot believe I didn’t hear a word of this from any doctor in my life. Additionally, if you get frequent recurring migraines, you may want to see a dietician. Migraines can be caused by foods containing histamines, lectin, etc. and can also be caused by high blood pressure in specific situations such as exercise, stress, and even sex.

I see a lot of ‘cis’ women say they wish they were androgynous in the way men were or they wish they were pretty in the way men were. This is your sign to go try to do that. You may find you enjoy being an androgynous woman. You may find you no longer identify as a woman. You may find you don’t like androgyny. You will not know until you try. Cut your hair if you’ve always wanted to but have been afraid to. Shop in the men’s section if you’ve been too nervous to. Wear clothing with an androgynous  silhouette. Experiment with binding, take baby steps with compression bras if you want. Wear unisex scents. Live life. Try things you want to try. A lot of cis women do not understand the joys of mens pants and mens deodorant. I think everyone should try both of those things.

Hey just a general PSA from someone officially diagnosed and documented:

Now is not the time to seek out an autism diagnosis.

RFK's plans have been made very clear and any diagnosis you do get will get you put on this "national disease registry" they're proposing.

Trust me when I say I completely understand the need for accommodations and a better understanding of yourself, but if you have gone this long without being diagnosed, you will be better off waiting.

Furthermore, listen to and advocate for folks who are diagnosed, especially folks with higher support needs. They'll be the first ones targeted for whatever bullshit "experimental treatments" the government tries to push.

Stay safe and look out for your neighbor.

Reminds me of college. I briefly considered a language major ... until I took my first required literature class in that language.

I never finished a single book we were supposed to have read in that class. Why? Every few words I had to look up another word. So much vocabulary I did not know, everywhere. Trying to read took for-freaking-ever, time I did not have while also completing the work for the other classes in my full-time load.

But. These were generally fairly famous works in that language, for which you could find Cliffs Notes / Spark Notes / whatever, I didn't care what it was, what mattered was that it was in English and online for free and told me what the damn book was about.

Our grade was entirely based on writing papers about the literature we read (or "read").

I worked very hard at bullshitting about the point and themes of the books we read and carefully trying to word it correctly in this language. And while I made plenty of grammatical mistakes in my papers (despite my best efforts), the bullshit was apparently on point because I got an A in the class.

And then ... found another plan for my major. Because, yeah.

Reportedly Mayor Ras Baraka of Newark, NJ, was not protesting; he was there doing his job, trying to tour the prison that was opened in his town against a law (there is ongoing legal wrangling over this).

Also, does anyone know the name for the opposite of a shit list? The list of people who earned your respect? Because this dude is on mine now.

Newark, New Jersey Mayor arrested by ICE for "storming" detention center during a peaceful protest, despite being outside the gates on the street at the time. He was asking to gain entry along with three US Congress members who were there to provide oversight on the facility (which the Congress members had done previously at another location).

They refused to let him in because he wasn't a member of Congress, and ultimately refused to let ANY of them in and later claimed "Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour." They were not there to take a tour, they were there to exert their oversight authority and do an inspection which requires no notice.

ICE started the violence, disappeared the Mayor of Newark (this just happened and we don't know where ICE took him), and denied Congress their legal oversight authority.

Can we call a spade a spade? Or a secret police a secret police?

Hey do y’all remember when Boeing fucking killed a guy last year. And we all said “huh I guess Boeing fucking killed a guy” and then went on with our lives. And everybody knew that Boeing had fully just fucking executed a guy and nothing came of it. Like there was no police investigation no justice no nothing. Like literally EVERYBODY knew that Boeing had full on murdered a guy to silence him and there wasn’t any consequences for them. Kinda crazy.
