I dipped into that weird moment in recent X-Men history when Wolverine was dead and they encased him in adamantium because Doop appears and, of course, I run a Doop tumblr. It was very Stat Wars. I like this cover a lot.

Sometimes I forget that Rollo Armstrong from Faithless did an Enigma remix CD as part of the 15 Years After box set. The disc is called The Dusted Variations, which is a reference to Rollo's band with Mark Bates, Dusted, which I quite like.
I relistened to this today and enjoyed it very much all over again. It was great to read to. Very low key.

Two shocking things, given that this is a Marvel comic and this is a depiction of one of the original 1960s X-Men characters — they somehow have (an alternate reality version of) Jean wearing even less on the astral plane than wearing her standard already skimpy costume, and also, shockingly this comic includes Jean depicted with the Japanese porn trope of tentacle porn.

I recently rewatched Pom Poko (平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ). This is what I wrote on letterboxd about it:
I guess this is a lesser appreciated Studio Ghibli film, but I think it’s an absolute gem. It’s such a delight to see the tanuki (狸) mythology taken seriously and on its own terms. It manages to deliver both adorable and light-hearted fun alongside serious ecological critique and real tragedy. This viewing was the first time I watched the English version, and, unfortunately, I will say that the dub provides an inferior viewing experience. The voice-over works, but I find the dialogue a little unnatural. To be fair, though, I don’t know that it would be possible to bring this into another language with a natural feeling; it really belongs in Japanese. Two additional small thoughts: in college, I wrote a really fun paper about the use of the tanuki scrotums in this movie and the underlying folktales. Also, it drives me out of my mind that the English title is rendered “poM poko” with an “m” instead of an “n” which would be a more direct and literal transliteration.

I noticed on the second issue, that they added the MAX Comics branding on the cover, which was Marvel's short-lived imprint for adult content after they broke with the Comics Code Authority.
Also, I can believe that this is the Shadow King in this universe, but I'm more surprised that this is Illyana Rasputina/Magik in the bottom right....

Finished up X-Men: Phoenix, Legacy of Fire by Ryan Kinnaird I truly can't believe this bizarre adult Marvel comic exists. And what a weird time -- when comic-making technology was changing.
I wonder what other MAX comics I would enjoy, or enjoy marveling at (pun intended). Possibilities include Fantomex (2013), Rawhide Kid (2003), Wolverine MAX (2012), Rawhide Kid (2003), Howard the Duck (2002), and Edgar Allan Poe (2006).

Screw the challenge looks, the best look of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Season 10, Episode 07, was Denali's confessional look. Honorable mention to what Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were wearing.

I cannot believe this comic exists. Set in the Marvel Mangaverse (Earth-2301), it features a version of Jean Grey and her sister, a version of Madeline Pryor, wearing truly almost nothing amidst their adventures.
