annabeth as a gf is literally the embodiment of only i’m allowed to make fun of him

like if percy says something stupid, she’s the first one to call him an idiot. (sometimes accompanied by a loving eye roll, more often accompanied by a laugh and kiss). she can do it because 1) she doesn’t actually think he’s stupid. she’s seen him do some absolutely brilliant things that have saved their lives. she respects him immensely for his intelligence. and 2) she knows that he knows she doesn’t actually think he’s dumb. he quite likes it when she makes fun of him. plus, he loves how smart she is, and he isn’t threatened by it. so she can call him an idiot and make fun of him as much as she wants. she always has and she always will. he finds it comforting. in their own unique percabeth way, it’s one of the main ways she shows him affection.

but if literally anyone else calls him an idiot, or tells him something he said/asked was stupid, she feels her gut twist in anger. she immediately defends what he said and justifies it as a smart and valid comment/question, and then shoots the absolute most clever and utterly brutal insult toward the person who called him stupid. she destroys every ounce of self-confidence they had just seconds ago

What are your thoughts on the idea that Inho's obsession with Gihun might do with the fact that Gihun reminds him of his dead wife?

I'm biased because I absolutely eat it up. I never been the same after seeing a post here that compared Gihun's s1 smiling photo with a photo of Inho's wife smiling.

There's also the fact that in s2 ep4, Inho called his wife stubborn, and how theres no point in arguing with her once she set her mind on something (going through her pregnancy despite her being very sick).

It made me think of Gihun's dedication of finding the Recruiter/Salesman, his insistance on being put back in the game...and him not listening to Inho when being told to get on the plane.

With this in mind, Inho's "Just get on the plane. It's for your own good." can be read more that just one man telling another man with who he shares similar trauma, to get the good life he doesn't have (but it's absolutely valid!!)

It could also be Inho (without realizing it) pleading for Gihun (his wife) to listen to him (the doctors), and (this time) survive. But just like with his wife, Gihun isn't budging with his decision. He made up his mind, go argue with a wall.

(Now it doesn't mean that Inho saw his wife in Gihun in an instance. It happens slowly as Inho gets closer to him)

Even beyond the shipping lens, though, everything you’ve said really resonates. It feels like the core of their dynamic, doesn’t it? In-ho is clearly drawn to something about Gi-hun’s refusal to compromise on his principles, his unshakable belief in humanity, and his conviction that things can still turn out for the better. The only other person In-ho has explicitly mentioned as being just as stubborn as Gi-hun is his late wife, which feels like a significant parallel.

Now, of course, this is all speculation, and we won’t know In-ho’s full motivations until Season 3 (hopefully) sheds some light. But I don’t think In-ho has ever truly moved on from his wife’s death. He’s still grieving, still carrying the weight of that loss. He’s angry—angry at himself for not being there when his wife and child died, angry at the world for the circumstances that led to it, and probably angry at the Games themselves for existing. (I’ll die on the hill that In-ho hates the Games, despite being their enforcer.) He’s also angry at humanity at large for failing people in need, for letting the world get to this point.

And I think there’s a part of him that’s angry at his wife, too, (don't kill me, hear me out). She was self-sacrificing to a fault, willing to risk her own life to save their unborn child. That mirrors what we see in Gi-hun, especially at the end of Season 1. In the final game, after Sang-woo is defeated, Gi-hun refuses to abandon his morals to win, even when the easier path is right in front of him. That kind of unyielding determination, that refusal to bend—even at great personal cost—has to strike a nerve with In-ho.

Since In-ho can’t confront his late wife or tell her she was wrong to risk it all, to leave him alone, he directs all that unresolved grief and anger toward Gi-hun instead. Gi-hun becomes a constant, painful reminder of everything In-ho lost—and everything he’s come to resent about the world.

So, what does In-ho do? He sets out to break Gi-hun. To tear apart everything and everyone Gi-hun cares about until all that’s left is despair. Maybe then, In-ho can finally say: “See? There’s no point. None of it means anything. You were wrong—just like she was wrong.”

It’s a cruel and calculated move, but also deeply human. If he can prove that Gi-hun’s ideals and morals are meaningless, it would, in a twisted way, justify the choices In-ho has made and the person he’s become.

In the end, it’s not just about Gi-hun or his late wife. It’s about In-ho’s own pain, his need to make sense of the senseless, and his desperate attempt to validate the path he’s taken—even if it’s at the expense of someone who still believes in the good.

Yeah, that must be! Ellie hates everything to do with you by proxy, including your husband.

“Have you ever considered marriage, Eleanor?” You ask out of the blue, politely cutting your steak as you two sit across from each other at the dinner table, your husband not being present, per usual, not like he ever is. “My name is Ellie, not..whatever that is.”

You grin at her response, “Aren’t you too old to be going by a nickname though? Especially one as infantile as Ellie? It sounds like a pet-name if i’m being honest.”

There it is. The way you stare at her even when she’s slightly out of line. It’s a mixture of both amusement and surprise. Like she was some sort of entertainment for you.

She hates the way it rolls off your tongue smoothly, no sign of condescension in it despite your previous words.

She hates how she feels something else stirring other than supposed hatred.

The other time she’s noticed this odd-feeling of hers rear it’s ugly head, was when you two had visited a bath-house, you stripping with ease as you walk the small steps they have before relaxing into the steamy water. Ellie stands there awkwardly, watching as you let your hair-bun down, all stress exiting your body once the sensations of the water settle around you.

“Well, aren’t you joining me, Ellie?”

She bites her bottom lip in an anxious fashion, almost fighting herself whether or not she’d let herself get that close to you. Regardless, one overpowers the other so she, like you, quickly sheds her clothing, stepping into the pool experimentally, however, she maintains a moderate space inbetween you two, careful not to ever let her body even touch a bristle of hair on yours.

Facing across from you, she studies the way your eyes are closed, soft crows feet at the corners— you were only 31 as she learnt, and already seemed so tired of the life you lived, having to run an entire estate while your— fuck, she couldn’t even recall his name— husband, ran business elsewhere. Ellie saw and took care of you more than she’d ever seen him done. I mean, what did you even see in him— ..what is she saying?

At the realization, she turns her gaze away from your face, eyes instead busying themselves with the small ripples the water makes.

She doesn’t seem to want to avert her gaze from the water just yet, but speaks, “I don’t answer alot of the questions you ask if you haven’t noticed.”

“I see.” You say, before standing up to dry yourself off with a towel. At this, Ellie seems alarmed. What happened? Why’d you leave so suddenly? Why— why does she seem to care recently more than she’d like?

A reasonable amount of time had passed since the bathhouse, and you seemed to forget about it reasonably quicker. Almost immediately, actually. Currently, you were hauled up in your study while Ellie sweeped the hallway flooring. Upon arrival to your door, she’s met with a quick ‘I’d like to be alone, thank you!’ She rolls her eyes, knocking again. When ignored again, she opts for a 3rd time, before you open the door in irritation, “What— Oh, it’s you, Ellie! Hello!”

“Yes, yes, it’s me, can I come in? I have to tidy up this room before I can clock it for the night.” She says briefly, attempting to enter the room before you block her way with a nervous smile, “I don’t think this room is obligatory, you can just skip it and leave.”

“Uh, no, I’d like to it now rather than have it pile up tomorrow.”

“That’s really not necessary, I mean it, i’ll clean it even.” You try one last time of persuasion. However, this earns you a blank state and an occasional eye-twitch.

Sighing, you step to the side, “If you insist..”

Ellie looks around as you return to your desk, massaging your temples as you seem focused on a slight-stack of documents. I mean, she hadn’t seen you this stressed since the time you were told the oak-tree in the grand-garden had to be cut down because the neighbors were complaining about it obstructing sunlight to their meek vegtable plants. You went though with it, with the help of Ellie’s shoulder and a couple of shirts she had to run through each time you soaked them with your tears.

It’s almost like time itself stops when those words dawn on Ellie. You’re..divorcing whatshisname? It’s like a fever dream. Almost surreal. Sure, you two never seemed all that in-love but you had your moments like when you’d kiss his cheek before he departs for whatever country he had shit to do in, I mean, that’s..romantic, right?

“12 years i’ll never get back down the drain. This, is why I ask you if you’d ever marry. Could you ever dedicate your life to another for it to be wasted like this?” You snap your fingers to signify time, bitterly laughing at Ellie’s solemn expression, “Don’t look at me like that, I liked you better than the others because we mutually agreed not to pity eachother.”

There it is, that feeling she faces when these moments spring up on her.

It’s not pity, it’s more like understanding where you’re coming from— but that’d be sympathy. Ellie doesn’t feel quite sympathetic about it, I mean, rich people don’t exactly feel that anyways but, she wants you to be the exception. You’re not like whatever the bunch are. You don’t frequent country clubs and you don’t go seeking elaborate affairs to spice your life. You’re an unsatisfied woman.

“I was young, you know? When my family heard of the marriage, they immediately called me mentally unwell— his family? Even worse. Guess what they immediately came to as reasoning? Witchcraft. It’s comical, isn’t? Me using spells to make a man of all things want me. If I did that, i’d be with Christian Bale, I tell ‘ya! I should’ve taken my signs then when he wouldn’t defend me, but I chalked it up to his fear of confrontation. ” You share, sipping your tea, “Older Men do nothing but leech off your youth. Don’t be like me, Ellie.”

“I won’t.” She finally says, though her throat tightens up, making her voice extra quivery rather than the assertion she was going for.

leaving someone because their mental health is harmful to you and the relationship is, of course, valid.

writing a song about how your partner’s mental health was a jail for you and already having someone lined up as the first to call is just downright disgraceful.

presumably, rather than supporting her partner in his lowest times the way he had done for her she got upset that he wasn’t seeing her and wouldn’t marry her in that state of mind and began an emotional affair because he couldn’t give her his full attention.

she has every right to grieve, and be angry, depressed, and heartbroken over the end of her relationship but to make a song like Fresh Out the Slammer is so gross and out of touch.

and mind you, it is ok to write songs about being the bad guy or doing problematic things, because that is real life and no one is perfect, but the problem is she doesn’t paint herself doing these things in a bad light. she is trying to justify said actions.

it is genuinely a slap in the face to every person who has ever struggled with mental illness and who face the worry every. single. day that they are either not good enough for their partner or a burden to them.

The Justice of Villains: Were they wrong?

Don’t we all, at some point, feel how unjust the world we live in is? Do you ever find yourself sympathizing with antagonists? Do you wish they’d won in the end? Were they just misunderstood geniuses — or simply corrupt evil creatures? Maybe, like me, you sometimes admire the ‘villain’ more than the so-called hero.

Let’s talk about justice and characters that fought for it.

What is JUSTICE in the first place?

This has been one of society’s key questions for centuries. Justice has been a fundamental pillar in our existence since time immemorial. I would personally prefer to refer to Plato, the Greek philosopher, whose idea of justice seems the most unbiased and conventional.

Since the tradition of Greek Philosophy considered ethics to be important, they believed that the state comes into existence for the sake of life and continues for the sake of a good life. Plato believed in the same dictum and held that the state exists to fulfil the necessities of human life. To save oneself from any suffering and to prevent injustice, men enter into a contract to prevent injustice upon themselves or on others. That is also how laws came into existence to codify standard human conduct and bring a sense of Justice. (From “The Republic”)

Justice is when everyone (or every part of the soul) does their proper role in harmony, guided by reason and the good. The virtue that befits the state is JUSTICE which creates harmony in all the three social classes and is a necessary condition for human happiness.

Now, let’s talk about how Light Yagami(Death Note), William Moriarty(Moriarty the Patriot) and Makishima Shougo(Psycho-Pass) saw justice, with flaws and good sides of their ideals.

Oh, the man he is — a simple student from Japan with the powerhouse of his brains and so much lost potential. Let’s be honest — the guy is admirable and his idea of justice seemed to be very justified. If we could make all evil perish, wouldn’t we do it immediately, right?

Here’s the thing, I LOVE masterminds, they can have me: mind and soul. But when it comes to Light and people who stand on the same hill as he did? Very HARD pass. I do judge you.

Light equates justice with death, allowing no space for rehabilitation, context, or nuance. But he forgets who the main enemy is — corrupt system, people’s ignorance and lack of accountability. He wants to erase the ‘flawed’, but aren’t we all? Is it fair to apply the same punishment for criminals with different range of guilt? Is the mother who stole napkins from the store for her newborn child supposed to die in the same way the rapist will?

Isn’t that why courts exist in the first place? To look through evidence, analyze the context and come to the most reasonable verdict ?

I understand his justice-driven behavior, but it doesn’t mean I agree with it or even respect it. To me , his ‘justice’ was flawed and doomed from the very beginning.

if we kill all criminals, does it mean that only the good ones remain? No — not even close. A society that avoids crime out of fear alone is no better than a herd led blindly, stripped of will. The guy values control through fear — people will behave well not out of goodness but out of terror. However, it has and never will work. Take the actual examples from history(USSR) and modern times(South Korea).

I am not going to defend our juridical system, it has to be reformed, that’s for sure. But it doesn’t mean we need some narcissistic with god-complex to decide people’s fates.

Verdict: Light’s justice is fascist, punitive and absolute. It lacks compassion, context and forgiveness. We are emotional beings that need freedom, not terror and dictatorship, where deviation = death.

Once again — how do they keep making villains so beautiful? Tell me you guys also fell for his face and his dramatic literature-style of speech. Yet another intelligent and well-educated person that fights for equality and justice! Mastermind with the eyes that have seen the terrors of humans’ existence.

What is his idea of justice? William believes that the root of all suffering is inequality. The aristocracy(people with money and influence) abuse power with impunity, and the law protects them. True justice can only be achieved in one way — by resetting society, eliminating those who built their lives on exploitation. His justice is utilitarian, class-based, and revolutionary.

With all due love and respect that I harbor for my precious William, I must admit that I don’t entirely agree with his idea, although his methods don’t look as bad as, for instance, the ones belonged to Light Yagami. You may ask me — why? Let me explain.

I am a history buff from Eastern Europe, so I know stuff when I say that Utilitarianism is not a way to fix the world. The death of the few (corrupt) for the good of the many (oppressed) has been one of Lenin’s leading causes. We know how it ended. “We will build our new world. He who was nothing will become everything!” And no, it never worked.

William aims to destroy the elite class and redistribute justice by empowering the lower classes — often via crime. And here’s the thing, why to demolish the noble class if you can use their wealth and power for the good, while simultaneously helping the lower classes? Not all rich are bad, not all poor are good. His ideology reminds me of radical socialism, which again never worked. We cannot possibly live in a stateless world. Stateless does not equal freedom and equality. Nevertheless, we can choose liberalism to protect people’s rights and bring our society closer to desired equality.

Verdict: William’s key values are omitting the importance of law, legality, reform and individual power. Our world cannot be changed drastically with violence. We are humans, not animals. Most of us learns, we grows, and evolves. He could have used his own influence to guide, to make others become better people.

Oh, the best antagonist I have ever seen in fiction. Well-written, magically beautiful, intelligent and slightly old-fashioned. A perfect blend for me, I would write poetry dedicated to this man. Frankly, I don’t really understand why people hated his ideas…? Among all the characters mentioned in this post, he actually makes sense, although his methods are devastating and horrifying.

Despite him being only in one season, I fell for hard for this man. “So, sir Makishima, what’s your idea of justice?” (I ask while writing my phone number to give it to him, lol)

The man believes that humanity has surrendered its soul to safety and order, Sybyl System that is. This said system dehumanizes people — punishing or sedating them based on potential , not actions. And this is where I am absolutely on his side. Is it fair to judge people, whose actions have not been illegal just based on some technology, which also includes criminals’ brains? Is labeling or even eliminating people gor what they have not done… just? Can we trust the ones who pull the strings and just forget about importance of human nature? Can’t a person be guided back — rather than destroyed?

The whole idea is admirable by me, but the way he implements his view, the way he manipulates people and cares so little about the most essential concept — human’s life? Unacceptable, sad, tragic.

I fear that our future might look the same. Think of the amount of propaganda we fall for, or about AI replacing employees, or about people’s ignorance of global issues we have caused ? Is it what the world needs? People held captive by trepidation? No, it’s definitely not what I personally stand for.

I am not justifying Makishima’s actions. They are too radical, too brutal, too… soulless. Leading people into the abyss through terror has never worked, and never will. I’ve said it before — utopia can’t be reached, no matter the method. That’s just who we are: flawed, and always will be.

Verdict: Makishima’s justice is anarchic, existential, and romantic. He wants people to live authentically, even if it means violence and collapse. He values freedom, human emotion, and genuineness over safety, stability and mechanical efficiency. However, he believes that suffering equals the truth, which reminds me of my biggest enemy — fyodor dostoevsky. Accepting our imperfections is good, but indulging in them — and acting purely on emotion — makes it hard to distinguish between the human and the beast.

I need people in the IWTV fanbase to realise that you can appreciate a character in all their complexities and enjoy their precense in a story and still wish they had a slow, painful death scene. For non-book readers, I hope to be able to clarify a few things about why a certain character is so hated.

I feel like I post at least once a day something about hitting Marius with a car or something and I do it mainly because it’s funny but it’s also because there is a very valid reason he is where a lot of people draw the line, despite the scale of morality in gothic literature being utterly different from that of pretty much any other literature, and drastically different from real life.

I love him for what he brings to the story. He is fascinating and I am excited to see him in season 3. He’s a brilliant character and I want to put him under a microscope and study him like a bug. He is still absolutely vile even for Anne Rice, something she even hints at here and there in her work.

I could go on and on for days about him, but to keep it short (edit: I lied), he met Pandora when she was ten years old and he was twenty five. What makes him particularly sick is nothing to do with vampiric morality, which we’ve seen is completely different, within the world of the books and show, from human morality. We get onboard with Lestat because we get to know him as a human and then watch how he changes as he gets used to being a vampire. Lestat was not a monster when he was human. Marius was.

If you disagree with that, you can think so if you wish as I do not currently possess the ability to control other people’s thoughts (but as soon as I do, I’m coming for you!) but please do not try and make excuses for him on that topic. Most people will not be open to that sort of debate. I know I’m not. Pandora was a baby. He should not have felt anything towards her other than a desire to protect her as a parent might. Yes, yes, gothic morality. But you need to understand that that is just too much for most people.

And you know who else was a baby, especially in comparison to Marius? Armand. Armand, who grew up to do awful things because of how he was treated. He was already being taken advantage of (to put it lightly) before he met Marius. If Marius had cared selflessly for Armand, he would have taken him from that brothel and tried to help him heal from the trauma. That is what real love would have been. You should not look at broken children and think to make them your lovers. All he was was yet another grown adult taking advantage of a boy whose spirit had been utterly shattered by what he’d endured.

(I’m not suggesting that should have happened or it would have been better, but I dislike the insinuation that Marius’s love for Armand was anything other than exploitative. It can be sincere, and still exploitative. I believe he meant it. I also believe he fucked Armand up more than he already had been.)

Murder in a fictional setting can be justified and overlooked, but as soon as anything involves children, you have to accept that you will lose a lot of people, even in gothic literature. That sort of relationship may have been more normalised thousands of years ago, but there were always people who objected to the concept. Even within the narrative of Anne Rice’s books, Marius’s actions are called out here and there (usually subtly) so even there, they are questioned. Compare him to someone like Lestat (I only mention him because for whatever reason, people like to group them together as irredeemable characters???).

Lestat’s actions are deeply toxic but people still like him because we understand why his behaviour is the way it is. As dreadful as what he does is, we are endeared to him because of his suffering and follow his journey as a vampire. He is twisted, but he is behaving according to what his trauma has turned him into. Armand is another example of this. Vile behaviour that is a believable response to trauma. There comes in the gothic morality again. We love them and know they are awful at the same time.

It is not that you cannot like Marius or characters like him. I do like him very much as a character, but you have to get on board with the idea that most people never will. The lines he crosses are unlike many of the others crossed by different characters. No one looks at Madeleine and Claudia and thinks it’s weird because Claudia is not actually a child. Armand was. Pandora was.

I could honestly make a separate post about book!Louis too and why I think the changes from the book were necessary to make people actually care about him, but it is similar. Harming/exploiting children and anything to do with slavery is a hard line a lot of people draw. Marius is still a multifaceted, interesting, complex, humanised character, as all Anne Rice vampires are, but he is deeply disliked for a very good reason. People cannot switch off how they feel about what he did, even if they are invested in the story.

(But also let’s be thoughtful about this type of discourse. Do not look at anyone whose favourite character is Marius and assume they are a bad person. He is a great character, he is just not to many people’s tastes. They likely just find him deeply interesting which he is.)

Anyway, after he gets his screen time and we reach the end of the show and he has gotten his chance to chance screen time, I vote we tie him up and treat him like a piñata.

In defense(?) of Tamba Ruiko with the trajectory of chapter 5 so far and what the YouTube comments have been looking like, im seeing very mixed feelings about tamba, so lemme become a defense attorney real quick and give some of my thoughts on her!

now obviously, tamba isn’t everyone’s cup of tea so I totally understand people who just don’t like her. reminder that people do not need very deep reasons (or any at all tbh) to not like a character, people can not like a character for whatever reason n that’s valid!! id just like to give my thoughts n insight into her actions for people to consider (and ofc im not von so this is my interpretation).

yes, tamba was an asshole for exploding at hiroaki. accusing him of faking his apology, of planting the threat, and proceeding to tell him every moment of the killing game he was a shitty person? kinda insane to do, especially when hiroaki has genuinely been trying to get better. not to mention how she pointed out him passing his punishment onto others while she herself did that exact same thing.

but the thing is that episode was tamba calling out hiroaki for shit that she likely knows is a fault of her own as well. tamba and hiroaki clash because they're two sides of the same coin. they are loud, obnoxious, hypocritical people who have looked out for themselves and tried to find someone to blame. they're both flawed people. the difference right now in their stories is that hiroaki has been improving, and tamba hasn't gotten to that point.

let's also remember that hiroaki's outward development hasn't been happening for too long. of course, us as the audience who has seen his growth know he's been struggling in the kg as much as anyone else, and is really trying to be better. ojima, yanagi, and wada especially know that. but those who haven’t been close to him don’t; hasegawa doesn’t understand him as he’s seen the same ups and downs that tamba has. like trial 4, hiroaki has had some regression at some points (which does not discount his general upwards trajectory!!) but out of curiosity, i do want to know why i saw hardly as much of criticism towards hiroaki when he said shit at wada…. im super confused about that. I think it's understandable for tamba to assume what kind of person he is. she hasn't seen what he's gone through. she's upset because she seen him be a dick countless times and assumes he sent the threat because he's the only one left who has been like that towards her.

tamba isn’t as level headed like everyone else has been. she lets fear n paranoia get the best of her, and can you blame her? she is surrounded by people who are all able to solve murders and conduct plans of escape, and while she's tried her hardest to do that too, she isn't as good at it. what she is good at is not something that she can use to contribute to the group, so she feels useless. tamba has said that she doesn't even know how she's still alive and if she even deserves it. with the last trial approaching till the game is supposed to end, i think she's absolutely allowed to be that worried over the threat-- who says she won't be killed for the sake of everyone else's escape? I still have no idea who sent the threat, and I don't think it was hiroaki, but she's in no way overreacting. tamba has been paranoid, especially recently, because she, just like everyone else, doesn't want to die, and knows she'd be an easy victim. while her paranoia has pushed her to do things that would cause her to be even more of a target, it's clear she's just really stressed out about being next. that doesn’t justify trying to look for a scapegoat, but it makes sense as to why.

tamba hasn't gotten the chance to live her life to the fullest. her life has revolved around gymnastics and numbers on a scale. it didn't matter to her parents that she wanted to play soccer, cause "she didn't have the body for it". she couldn't be in theater cause it was too much of a commitment that would take away from gymnastics. she hasn't had agency over her own life, so she has been trying to start doing things on her own. she finally does something about it and rejects hayashi's help.

this doesn't discredit hiroaki's life and what he has/hasn't done, neither does it discredit any other student. it's just human nature for someone to prioritize their life over others in a life or death situation. tamba is trying to make sense of a situation that makes less and less of it.

everyone is exhausted. a month of being trapped in an underground school forced to kill strangers and watching them die one by one? that'll kill you (literally). tamba is just someone who is cracking under the pressure.

of course, if I misinterpreted or missed something, please let me know! my understanding isn't the objectively right one or anything LMAO so please lmk if I am thinking about things the wrong way. thank you for reading ^^

I've been reading lots of commentary on my dash about Dean's apology to Cas in The Trap that is, in a sense, re-litigating who is most to blame for their rupture, and who should be apologising.

On the one side, Cas, whose drive to protect and save the ones he loves leads him to go it alone and keep vital information from them, and on the other, Dean, whose anger, however justified, makes him cold, hard and uncompromising. Cas, who left, or Dean, who didn't ask him to stay. And, I think: can't they both be in error and standing in need of compassion? Is love a thing to be earned and deserved, or is it like grace, which is free and unmerited and complete forgiveness?

For me, these are two characters who are under tremendous pressure and in repeated dire circumstances, and who have given each other that kind of grace over and over and over again for years, and who have chosen each other every time a choice was there to be made. In the The Rupture, Dean is too angry to make talking about it viable (and I am not blaming him, he has his perfectly valid reasons! But, that's a fact) and Cas is too offended, hurt, and too proud to stay and bear Dean's anger, so he leaves.

A few episodes later, in Golden Time, Cas is told Chuck is back and is reminded of what they are fighting for, and who they are fighting against, and realises that his place is in that fight, at their side, whatever Dean's feelings, and that he has to go back. But, the tension remains -- Dean is angry, Cas is aloof. They go to hell. Rowena says "fix it" and reminds them that they don't have time to waste on grievances, and then Michael says "Since when do we get what we deserve?" And looks them both in the eye. Then, they go to Purgatory.

What happens in The Trap, for me, is that Dean, thinking he has lost Cas, looks into his own heart knows that his anger kept them apart, and he gives Cas grace and forgivenes, because he loves Cas too much not to and it doesn't matter if Dean has a right to his anger, or what anyone deserves, because the apology is to satisfy his own soul, and his own need to be better. I don't think it matters who is right and who is wrong. I think they are both right, and they are both wrong. Cas did apologise, and Dean was too angry to let him, Cas coming back to bear that anger and help is a capitulation and an effort to do what is right.

I love that Dean forgives Cas before Cas can earn it with his 'win', and don't think it's a matter of anyone deserving anything. Dean's very nature is love and goodness, and the constant striving to act on it; his anger works against those things. There is no basis for them to talk about what ails them if he can't let it go. Dean knows it's doing him damage, and he apologises for it. His conscience demands it, and grace cannot be a thing that is owed.

I love that scene, I love that Jensen acts his heart out in that scene, and I think that scene is about Dean's heart, and not about anyone's culpability. Both of them are so broken down by their losses and have such brutal histories of trauma, and that's why they are both falling back on habits that don't serve them. Cas came back, Dean gave up his anger. Do the problems still exist? Absolutely. But nothing is served by being apart and angry.

Headcanon Sunny Day Jack

Jack is by nature a loving, attentive being, dedicated to making the person he loves happy. If he were in love, these traits would intensify into absolute devotion.

Extremely attentive: He will remember every detail about you, from your favorite foods to the way you like to wake up in the morning.

Suffocating and possessive love: Jack will not want to be separated from you. His love is almost obsessive, as if his world revolved completely around you.

Always positive, but with a disturbing undertone: He will keep smiling, but if he feels that someone or something threatens your happiness, that sweetness can become disturbingly intense.

Tenderness with manipulative touches: His desire to see you happy could make him justify any action to keep you by his side, even if it means ignoring what you really want.

Need for constant validation: He wants to know that you love him as much as he loves you. An "I love you" isn't enough, he needs constant proof of your affection.

Jack in love is like a shining sun… but if you get too close, you might realize that his warmth hides a fire that won't let you escape.

That Tubbo/Dream convo is just 3 straight hours of Tubbo trying to call Dream out on the maliciously ambiguous way his video (and prior stream) portrayed information while Dream desperately clings to the plausible deniability he thinks he can maintain because he supposedly never outright lies or directly accuses anyone of any unprovable claims (debatable), as if he didn't intentionally present information in a way that has clear and blatant implications of those things. Which, if anyone picks up on those implications, he paints it as if it's only because they misinterpreted him, and well actually if you very carefully break down the specific words he said and the exact tone in which he said it then technically you'll see he never really claimed anything like that, and just because he happened to align this line of dialogue with that on screen visual and any human with any sense of literacy would draw the conclusion that they're connected, well no, actually, that's just a misinterpretation of the clip and that editing choice was just a coincidence, and no, that phrasing wasn't intended to mean that thing it clearly sounds like it means, you just didn't hear the one word of the sentence which subtly implies he wasn't speaking literally, it was just a joke. Hot tip! If you need to nitpick the little details of what OTHER people say to validate a response, or hyperfocus on the semantics of what YOU say to justify your argument, then you probably don't have a leg to stand on in the first place. I urge you to consider why it is that you need to try so hard and reach so far just to defend your position.

But seriously, either Dream is stupid or he thinks his audience is, because even a child could recognize such a dramatized misrepresentation of the facts for what it is; an indiscreet attempt at convincing the public to believe certain things and adopt certain opinions without technically telling them to do so in plain words. The fact that he thinks he can get away with it is very telling. Obviously I'm of the STRONG opinion that it was done intentionally, but even if I were to give him the absolute most credit possible and say it wasn't, the fact that every time Tubbo attempted to reason with him by asking him to recognize that regardless of his supposedly wholesome and honest intentions, the implications of his video still caused the general public to interpret it a certain way and those interpretations are not unfounded and are worth consideration, he STILL wouldn't accept that! He absolutely refused to acknowledge that if he didn't want his points to be interpreted that way then he should have been more careful with how he presented them. And the way I see it, that is simply because he DID want his points to be interpreted that way, and the misleading WAS intentional. Because if anyone else was in his situation but genuinely did not mean to or want to spread misinformation, they would have, at SOME POINT in that 3.5 hour long talk, recognized their mistake and said "Yea, I understand now that my actions, though unintentional, have, in fact, lead many people to believe I said/meant things that are not provable facts and are not accurate to my feelings, and I should have presented these topics in a more clear and careful way." AND any person with a backbone would then delete their video and make a new one being more direct and conclusive. But Dream is not that person, and his intentions simply could not have been innocent.

I also need to mention that it is so upsetting to watch Tubbo struggle to get a word in between Dream's frantic ranting, because when he finally does get a chance to speak, he struggles with phrasing it and organizing his thoughts due to the overwhelming bombardment of repetitive one-sided squawking from Dream, resulting in Tubbo losing his train of thought or misspeaking, and Dream, being the slimy pig he is, does not hesitate to enthusiastically jump on every pause or mistake, taking advantage of Tubbo's speaking difficulties while simultaneously making them worse by constantly dismissing his words, cutting him off, and talking down to him in the most nauseatingly condescending voice I have ever heard. Not that it makes a difference, because Dream doesn't seem to hear anything he says regardless of how clear and simple it is. Likely because Dream's brain runs on the sole need to be liked. He came into this conversation wanting to know why people were upset with him, not because he wanted to learn and understand other peoples perspective and potentially correct any mistakes he may have made, but because he wants to know what is being said so he can defend himself against it, and THAT is why it feels like Tubbo is talking to a brick wall. Because instead of genuinely hearing and considering the information he receives, every word that enters his ears is faced with the question of "does this paint me in a positive light". If the answer is no, he doesn't bother to think any further about what has been said, he just goes straight into giving every possible defense and explanation as to why he's been falsely portrayed or why he's actually valid, and if he can't find a way to defend himself, he disregards or downplays the criticism entirely. The way Dream continually ignores the big picture to zero in on petty details, misunderstands Tubbo's seemingly obvious and clearly communicated points, and repeats his explanations for his actions over and over even when Tubbo has made it clear that he doesn't believe it validates his behavior, is because Dream knows he is in the wrong, and doesn't want to admit it, but is running out of ways to spin it to seem otherwise. I don't know why he doesn't realize that people would like and respect him more if he could just admit to being wrong sometimes and doing shitty things sometimes. Every single person has done and will do shitty things. But when someone won't admit that something they did was shitty despite being faced with indisputable proof of the harm it's caused, I just have to assume it's because they plan to do that same thing again, and they know that admitting it's shitty now would mean they lose the ability to claim the ignorance card for the next time.

Idk. I don't think Tommy was wrong to compare Dream to a cartoon villain. His behavior is juvenile and embarrassing on a good day. On a bad day his actions and attitude are outright despicable to anyone with a healthy mind and a basic understanding of human behavior. Similarly, advising Dream to step back from the internet and get some therapy is sounding more valid than ever right now.

Do you think it's possible to make a main protagonist of a story, who was an abusive person just like Vicious was, be likable? like, keeping the fact that they won't be forgiven by their victim, but at the same time exploring them actually evolving and becoming a better person and creating new healthy relationships. Not to pat abusers on the head, but yk, something like "You can choose to CHANGE". Because ngl I keep thinking about Vicious' future. I know she won't die and thankfully she will get out of Jasper's abuse, but what then? Would she go on a journey to realize her mistakes and act differently? Who knows.

I see a lot of people talking about Bojack Horseman, but I don't know if it's a good example because apparently the point of his character is to be a hypocrite who acts like the victim for everything that happens while continuing to ruin his relationships (I've never watched it so sorry if I might be saying shit lol 😭). I even know that there is a moment where he almost takes advantage of an underage girl, and while I do believe in change and growth, there are things that have limits for me ofc

There's likeable and then there's sympathetic and/or relatable.

Bojack Horseman as a character is relatable to a lot of folks but there has certainly been a crossroads when it comes to people who relate to him excusing his behaviour because x, y or z happened to him and completely missing the point of Todd blowing up on him and then there's people who still relate to him but feel he needs to be held accountable for his actions in order to improve himself.

And they're absolutely correct. A main reason why Bojack failed to improve is because he was stuck in an endless cycle of victimisation and feeling like he was not responsible for his actions for whatever reason. Namely the abuse he suffered at the hands of his parents. Only he's not that child anymore. He's an adult and he's very much responsible for his actions.

Like I will openly admit that I was an utter asshole to people online years ago because I didn't have a very nice home life and I was dealing with undiagnosed autism and mental health issues. I felt powerless and being a confrontational prick online gave me power. Bojack certainly works in a similar manner. His celebrity status gives him the power to act out in ways he never could as a child and whatever regret he feels is purely a sense of apprehension that his celebrity status and the power/respect it grants will be taken away from him. It's very selfish and it's why he didn't grow at all until his actions were exposed. And he certainly would've been doomed to keep things going had he not gone for that second interview. Especially as a college professor, given his history.

I can't speak for everybody who says they wish that second interview hadn't happened and Bojack may or may not have improved on his own but - from my perspective - he would've just used his newfound confidence and power as an 'advocate' for addiction to harm others, especially indirectly. The indirectness already happens with audience members of the show who feel Bojack justifies their problematic behaviour.

And this is something you have to be especially wary of if you wish to pursue this kind of topic: your character being used to validate the negative behaviour of others. Bojack's writers did a great job of making it clear that - while sympathetic - Bojack needed to be held accountable for his actions and needed to improve. People can view that as a negative thing all they want but they are not the kind of people the writers wanted the approval of anyway and they're not really worthy of anybody else's approval either imho.

And we also have to recognise that change doesn't automatically come with forgiveness either. Going back to Bojack again, I feel Herb would've absolutely entertained having a friendship with him once more if Bojack had accepted he was not entitled to forgiveness. It's just the kind of character Herb is. Charlotte, on the other hand, would've been 110% right to have Bojack tossed in jail as a mother. It all depends on the character and the nature of the deed. Like you've already pointed out, there are limitations. And it's also why Vicious will never have access to Hope or Adamant again. - RJ

Hi Vivi! I'd like to ask something as a Ron fan. How abusive is Ron really in book six? He gave Hermione the silent treatment, and when I decided to research about the silent treatment I found it's a form of psychological abuse???? WHAT??? I love him so much but he literally disgusts me in this book, making girls cry, and what he did to Hermione isn't exactly forgivable. The more I think about it the less I like him which is a shame, because I would defend him with my life but the hbp makes it IMPOSSIBLE for me to feel sympathy for him. And it kinda icks me how hermione keeps crying over a boy who might not even be worthy her tears. Hermione and her "spared Ron one look of disdain". Hermione and her treating Ron coldly when he reacts to Lavender being nice to him (while Hermione withholds attention from him deliberately, WHICH IS ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR but Rowling justifies with "oh but that's how girls are like tee hee"). Hermione and her "golden bullets", Harry and his "yeah Ron you may have just gotten assaulted but shouldn't YOU apologize to Hermione cause yknow it's basically your fault if she's an unhinged violent asshole who thinks she's allowed to hurt you as a form of retribution?". Hermione and her "I like really good Quidditch players". Hermione and, when Ron *immediately* tries to talk to her once he sees her upon returning from Christmas, her blatantly ignoring Ron and keeping the silent treatment going UNTIL RON'S BIRTHDAY IN MARCH. RON KEPT THE SILENT TREATMENT GOING FOR LIKE ~3 WEEKS, HERMIONE KEPT IT UP FOR MONTHS.

You see, the book keeps crowing that Ron is immature and stupid and isn't Hermione just so out of his league and so much better than him, isn't it such a tragedy that such a good girl cries over such an unworthy boy?

But then you remember the actual events, you remember the stuff that Hermione actually did and that Rowling treats as though it's just desserts for Ron or "girl stuff", you remember that Rowling talks at length about all that Ron fucks up and how he's sooo mean and horrible for making girls cry waaah... but then remember. Remember Hermione's actions, remember how Hermione treats Ron as though he belongs to her, how she consciously withholds affection from him to control him and once he subverts that control? She consciously, deliberately, physically attacks him. Then starts months of silent treatment that only end when Ron ALMOST FUCKING DIES.

At every turn, she proves worse than Ron ever is - Ron accidentally harmed Demelza, Hermione deliberately harmed Ron; Ron did the silent treatment a bit, Hermione prolonged it even as Ron tried to reconnect; only thing she didn't do is make Ron cry and that's because Ron isn't allowed to express hurt by crying because he's a boy, but she definitely hurt him just like he hurt her, and perhaps even worse because she deliberately targeted his insecurities.

And remember, Hermione is supposed to be "the mature one". "She who is out of Ron's league". The sacred all-knowing brilliant girl who is so nice and loving and only the worthy may wield, or something.

This is the behaviour of our "mature above all" goddess? Ron's behaviour, except worse because she does it for longer and with full intent? If Ron's behaviour in HBP makes him unworthy of Hermione, then what does Hermione's behaviour in HBP make her? I think, perhaps, it makes her unworthy of being considered someone Ron should "prove" worthy of.

In short: whatever Ron does in HBP, Hermione does, and worse. It's just that Rowling deliberately puts more emphasis on Ron's behaviour so you will think he's bad, and "softens" Hermione's bullshit with "oh but she's a girl, she's emotional, and it's really just Ron's fault she acted like an abusive dick :/" which in my language we call victim blaming and sexist double-standards.

Ron gets ruined by Rowling. And Hermione? Hermione is Rowling's idea of a perfect girl. A bossy, controlling nightmare who can make your "best friend" think it's YOUR fault she hit you. A dickhead who weaponizes her tears as a shield to deflect any form of criticism, an actual child who can't reflect on her behaviour for shit and will always make it everyone else's problem, a tantrum-throwing brat who for all her supposed "intelligence" has nothing to show for it but grades that don't mean shit in an actual job.

If Ron isn't "worthy" of this, then I'm happy for him. Indeed it feels more like Hermione, despite Rowling's intent, is less of a prize and more of a curse.

Early main story Leona is definitely the type to bully the crud out of others 💀 To be fair to him though, honestly any dorm (other than Heartslabyul) would have been reluctant to house a pair that they have little to no personal connection with. The students at NRC are known for their pride and reluctance to help each other out, right? Night Raven College also has a culture of "the strong obey the weak", so to have Yuu and Grim "earn their keep" by demonstrating their strength makes sense. The other dorms would have probably demanded similar things of them, regardless of how downtrodden and dreary their circumstances are. It's not like Azul or the mob students showed Yuu and Grim any mercy before. Most of the student population is not nice or welcoming, especially if there's nothing in it for them to gain. In this case, Leona would be gaining two temporary students that aren't deadweights to him. Of course, that doesn't justify what he did/said in book 3 or any of the other things he did/said. It doesn't mean you have to like the guy for what he did. It's just that I don't know if that one scene is a specific-to-Leona asshole move. I do want to point to the Episode of Octavinelle manga too; in that, Leona doesn't make Yuuta fight mobs to sleep over, he accepts Yuuta's cooking abilities as a substitute. This loops right back around to what I was saying about "earning your keep" and how most NRC students won't want to help you out unless you have something to offer them in return. For Yuuta, that was his culinary skills. For in-game Yuu and Grim, it had to be combat prowess. Is it cruel in comparison to letting them sleep over in return for nothing? Yes, absolutely. But is it in character for them to be selfish about it? Also yes, absolutely. I think it's fine to have as a characterization moment--though whether you enjoy this or not is up to the individual fan.

I get that he's not going to appeal to everyone. Leona definitely comes off as intimidating and he has plenty of other traits to loathe. Every character will have people that dislike them or even outright hate them. That's completely normal and should be expected, since everyone has different experiences, tastes, and perspectives to bring to the table--each equally as valid as the last. Feelings can change over time, feelings can stay the same. Whatever happens, it's fine! No one decent is going to hold a (water) gun to your head and force you to like L*ona. Enjoy fandom in your own way!

That being said 💦💦 I will advise that you avoid sending messages of, "I actually HATE this character that you happen to like" into people's inboxes. It's okay to have a different opinion than the fan you're expressing the opinion to, but you should keep in mind that it's not always appropriate to voice it or to press the matter. I might be generally indifferent about discussing why we like or dislike certain characters, but others might not be so happy to get a message that could be considered bashing on their favorite(s). Again, just be mindful of others and their boundaries!

Sonic and Nine make a toxic duo/“sibling” relationship

And why Silver could easily fit into that dynamic instead

I have mentioned this before not too long ago, but never got the chance to elaborate on why I personally do not like Sonic and Nine as “brothers”. So!!! I’ll take advantage and explain why Silver and Nine are a much better duo :]]

BUT FIRST!!! I want to credit my pookie @abs9lution who came up with this duo in the first place! i have their thread that elaborates further on silver and nine’s dynamic at the end of this post if you’d like to check it out! it also includes a thread on what’ll happen to silver and blaze’s dynamic, and why Blaze’s character was downgraded throughout the years

I. Sonic and Nine, and why their dynamic does not work out.

I feel like I could go on for AGES as to why i genuinely dislike Sonic and Nine as a duo, because there’s just so many things wrong with these two 😭

If you’ve watched Sonic Prime then you’d know Sonic’s goal was to simply bring back Green Hills, with the help of the friends he made along the way.

This also includes Nine (momentarily) before his (EXTREMELY VALID AND JUSTIFIED) villain arc.

Throughout the show it is extremely obvious Sonic only saw Nine as Tails “but angsty”. He didn’t take time to realize that Nine was NOT Tails and never will be. Whilst his main concern was to bring back his friends, I feel like no one talks about how demeaning this was 😭

The poor kid has absolutely no idea what a friendship is like, so having Sonic rely on him for even a little bit was bound to become a heavily over attached and almost obsessive-one sided dynamic.

So no, it’s not meant to be “toxic brothers!!!” core, it is sooo downgrading to not only Nine’s trauma imho, but also the whole plot of S3 in Sonic Prime. They CANNOT be brothers 😭

This is often dismissed just for the fact of “lol sonic and tails brother ship in all universes”

Do not get my wrong, I adore the Unbreakable Bond stuff, I think they’re the brothers ever!! HOWEVER, this should not apply with Sonic and Nine for obvious reasons.

I can yap more about this but the main purpose of this post is about Silver and Nine, so I’ll keep this section short!!

II. Silver should’ve been in Sonic Prime and I will die on this hill 

LIKE??? ITS LITERALLY ABOUT THE MULTIVERSE WHY WOULDN’T HE (and Blaze) BE IN THIS SHOW???

Silver in general needs to be in more official media but that’s a rant for another post 😭

His addition to this show would’ve been sooo important, it actually would’ve changed a lot of the plot and even the ending of S3 (which was absolute shit imo 😭)

I don’t have a lot to say about this part of the post, apart from the fact his inclusion would have made the show more interesting, and his background is very similar to Nine!! (Which I’ll explain in the next section)

III. Why Silver and Nine would make a better bond than with Sonic.

they have similar backgrounds and interests! both come from a dystopian city with the want for change; one wants to leave and make a new world, while the other wants to help fix his.

They both balance each other nicely! And YES I KNOW THE SAME IS FOR SONIC. THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT THERES NO TRAUMA INVOLVED BETWEEN THE TWO 😭 and it’s not a complete copy of sonic and tails but with an angsty version of the fox

silver wouldn’t see nine as “tails but angsty” or just another version of tails, I think he’d see nine as his own person!! they could keep each other company and be the sillies ever

Something I like about this is the fact it’s not EXACTLY like sonic and tails, and they can still have that brother bond!! They have tons of potential, which is why I ignore canon and follow my delusions in fanon 😁

okay in a serious note, sonic and nine just wouldn’t have a healthy friendship that wouldn’t have one-sided obsession and lots of toxicity, while silver, a character that albeit random, still has enough similarities to fit into that role!!
