little story about my coming out (kinda)
I would like to tell you a story about how I came out to my parents. first of all I never did it explicitly. One day, my parents were talking to me about having a boyfriend, so I asked: “What if i date a girl? What if I have a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend?” They suddenly understood. They didn’t expect me to say that but they said: “If you’ll have a girlfriend that will be okay.” Then they said that they only hope that the person I’ll date will be a good person. I felt so good and appreciated. I felt happy.

My dear lgbt+ kids,
Here’s a hug for everyone who has parents that use “the silent treatment” as a punishment (they refuse to talk to you after you did something wrong, maybe even for hours or days).
It may feel like a gentle punishment compared to yelling - but it can leave emotional wounds. It doesn’t teach healthy communication skills, how to apologize or how to fix a mistake.
In fact, it teaches you that you can’t fix a mistake - you can just try to avoid making a mistake in the first place. It teaches you “If I mess up, I end up alone”.
That’s a very scary thing to internalize. It can turn you into a people-pleaser: you do whatever people expect from you, even if it hurts you, because a “No” could lead to them ignoring or leaving you.
And that can make the thought of getting close to someone really difficult - in a romantic or sexual sense and even in friendships. How can you say no to sex if that might lead to your partner breaking up? How can you ask someone to use the right pronouns if they might get upset and leave? How could you even text your crush a flirty joke if they might hate it and never talk to you again?
If that’s you, please know: That message you got from your parents, it’s not how the world really works.
Emotionally healthy relationships (of any nature) will allow communication. They will give you space to put up boundaries, to say no, to disagree. All of those things aren’t you messing up and potentially risking the relationship - they are normal and important!
With all my love,
Your Tumblr Dad
P.S: They will even give you space to make honest mistakes - because you can talk about and apologize for those mistakes. Like every other person in this world, you can’t be perfect. And that’s okay.

living with dyslexia is usually very manageable, but it is a life full of small momentary shocks and then you’re like ‘wait no’
for instance, I regularly read ‘taxes’ as ‘texas’
and every single goddamn year when y’all post things like ‘don’t forget taxes!!’ and ‘taxes season is here’ I read ‘it’s texas season!!’ and I’m like ??? what are they going to do? why does texas have a season? guns? guns and stars?? does florida have a season???
and then garbage brain screeches on the breaks and arranges the letters right and I’m like ‘right. we’re doin this again huh’
and then the next day I read ‘sexist’ as ‘sexiest’ and the process begins anew
