Miles Penn discovers that Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford used to date.

What just happened? Does he get an answer to his unspoken question? Nope. All he gets is a bark, a growl, and this look that makes him flinch back, like some poor, scared squirrel trying to jump away from a bear. Yeah... that was a little embarrassing. Then his TO grumbles, barely audible but somehow deadly in the way it sounds. "Out." "What?" Miles replies, genuinely confused, with a tone that says it all. Like, a big, fat WHAT? “Get out.” Teeth clenched. Yep, Tim Bradford’s teeth are so tight, it’s like he’s about to snap and bite someone if he doesn’t hold it in. But Miles, being… well, Miles, doesn’t always make the best choices when it comes to questions. He knows that, and he’s not shy about admitting it. Still, he shoots back, “Out, like, out of the shop?” “Should I spell it for you?” No. Nope Think first, speak second. “No, sir. Got it.” He opens the car door, eyes locked on Sergeant Bradford, who looks like an overinflated balloon just waiting to pop if someone so much as looks at him wrong. Miles hopes his next question isn’t the damn needle that bursts the thing, but he asks it anyway. “And then?” “You’re gonna walk back to the station, and while you’re doing that, you’ll have some time to overthink your attitude.”

During the next three days working as a court liaison sergeant—while Lucy was at home, inevitably overwhelmed with all the things she wants to do—Tim has come to a few conclusions. First, he doesn't just dislike this position. He loathes it. Never-ending paperwork, politics, and sitting behind a desk? It's everything he hates about the job wrapped up in one neat little package. But then there's the flip side. Going over to Lucy's apartment after a mind-numbing day? Yeah, he doesn't just like it—he's hooked. It's not just the way she greets him with that smile or how the place starts to feel more and more like home. It's all the little things. It's getting up as Lucy mutters, "Just a few more minutes," like she hasn't already hit snooze three times. Starting the coffee machine in the quiet of the living room, knowing—for once—breakfast won't be a solitary affair. Because now, there's someone actually sitting next to him. But what shocked him the most? She actually uses the mornings for something productive. And not just on work days. She doesn't laze around on her free days, as you'd expect. Nope. She's up and dressed in her workout gear, coffee in hand, claiming it's all about getting her morning run done before it gets too warm. Sure, that's cute, but Tim knows better. It's about those stolen minutes together, and she's not fooling anyone. It's the chaos of sharing a sink—two Type-A personalities jockeying for the "best spot" like they're on a tactical op, toothbrushes in hand. Who knew you could turn personal hygiene into a competition?

Secret Dating Era - Chapter 64 now up

What’s in store this time for Tim and Lucy? An Italian charmer, ducks, and chocolate ice cream.

"Kojo! Come here!" He whistles his dog back, who apparently was about to snatch a duck. The dog immediately obeys and trots over to his master with drooping ears. Both are just a few feet away from Giulio. Oddly enough, the four-legged animal looks exactly like the dog Lucy was chasing earlier. And suddenly, Lucy appears out of nowhere beside them. She kneels down on the ground, wraps her arms around the dog's neck, and speaks to him in her always cheerful voice. "Ah, naughty Kojo. Ducks are our friends. We are not eating them." The pup starts wagging its tail happily and barks once as if he understood everything she said. But he probably just enjoys the attention. Giulio wonders if the canine really belongs to Lucy. Before he can think more about it, he hears the man standing next to her speak, his voice now devoid of any sharpness. "Yeah, sure. Go ahead, praise him even more for that. He's getting leashed now before he starts killing ducks." "Oh, come on, Tim. Kojo..."—Lucy takes the dog's muzzle between her hands and strokes his cheeks, which he clearly enjoys, as indicated by his wagging tail—"... wouldn't harm anyone. He's the best boy in the world. He's just happy and wants to play." Giulio chuckles. A dog who "is just happy and wants to play" with the ducks. Yeah, right. Una donna ingenua—Naive woman. But it suits Lucy. And he doesn't know if he could even resist laughing if Lucy were to look at him like that.

Not to rush you but when is the next chapter of the secret dating era will be

Sorry for answering so late. Haven't been on the app some time. At the moment Cookies and I are working hard on our first book. The change of persona and perspectives between that and SDE was quiet difficult. So we decided to take a break in the fanfic because we want to take our time with new chaps and not rush them. We want to finish this fic like it deserves because we love it. When we start writing again we will finish it in one go. Sorry not to have better news. But we will come back.

Secret Dating Era - Chapter 62 now on AO3

Because there he is, just standing there. His hair is a little messy from a full day of working in the garden, and he's sporting a two-day stubble that gives him this rugged look because, apparently, shaving on his day off is a crime. His skin has that nice sun-kissed tan. And as if the view of his fitted muscle shirt from the back wasn't already enough, seeing it from the front is even more mind-numbing. Now she can also make out the shape of his pecs and abs under the thin fabric. He's wearing sweatpants—short ones—showing off those strong, muscular legs. And of course, he's barefoot. Sure, it's a hot day, and yeah, people probably do garden barefoot in this heat. And all of this would already have Lucy melting like a marshmallow held too close to the fire. But the real kicker? The damn sunglasses. Tim Bradford is wearing sunglasses. Holy freaking shit.

Normally, she'd throw out a sharp yet polite comment to let him know she doesn't appreciate workplace flirting. But she's not really herself here. Well, she is, but she's in 'I want to meet and get to know everyone' mode. So, she extends her hand to Officer Perkins—she got his name from his badge, not him—and says, "Just Lucy. Sorry. Define spending a lot of time together?" Perkins grins, takes her hand, runs his thumb over the back—which she finds totally inappropriate—and pulls her slightly closer—which is just downright wrong. "You and I gonna ride together. And I have to say, I'm looking forward to it. I've heard so much about the famous Chen that I can't wait to see you in action. Only nobody mentioned that you are not only good at what are you doing but also fucking hot."

Emmet starts the barrage. "Hot date, or what?" Whistles and laughs follow, and Tim rolls his eyes at the hand—Steve’s, he thinks—that lands on his shoulder like a congratulatory pat. Next up is either Aiden or Mateo, their voices indistinguishable since they’re brothers and always together. "Who's the lucky lady?" one of them jests. Tim shoots them an annoyed look. "My couch," he deadpans, hoping to shut them down. The group bursts into laughter. From somewhere in the crowd, a voice shouts, "You mean ON the couch!" More laughter, more whistles, another pat on the shoulder. Fantastic. Feeling like he’s in a high school locker room full of 16-year-olds, Tim decides to say no more, knowing anything he says will just fuel their teasing. With a casual wave, he says, "See you next time," and makes his exit.

"I’m down. What’s the buy-in? 20 bucks like last time?" "Nah, it’s upped. 25. Smitty’s taking a two-fifty cut for 'handling fees,' as he calls it." "The old hustler. What did you put your money on?" "You think I’m gonna spill my bet? Nah, but here’s a tip: don’t put your money on it being Bradford. The odds on that are lousy. Everyone thinks it’s Bradford. You’d only double your money."

Get ready for a series of chapters, as we’re not one for brevity and we want to explore a story that could exist within the Rookie universe. This is an AU (Alternate Universe) story, meaning it’s a what-if scenario that doesn’t align with the events of the actual series that will happen in S7.

The theorie for Lucy to go undercover in the LAPD was discussed by THE German Rookie fan group on twitter before the airing of 6x08. Or was it 6x09? Doesn't matter. I was so taken with this idea that I decided to make it the basis of our story. Naturally, a significant part of the story will revolve around Tim and Lucy’s relationship, because what could be more enjoyable than writing and reading about these two?
