I’ve been thinking about Batman as opposed to Superman lately.
A lot of this is conjecture. But, I like thinking about how they tackle their own morality.
Superman is obvious: he’s good. He’s strongly good - a golem-like figure who values life and love and humanity. He fights to preserve those things, because he believes in them, even if they don’t follow the law to the letter.
Batman, on the other hand… he’s good. More or less. But the law is what guides him. He follows rules and guidelines, even though he, himself, is doing so illegally. He does what’s right in his eyes, and in his eyes, the law is right. He doesn’t fight because he believes in love, life, and humanity. He fights because he believes in the law.
It’s like Batman, having gone through too much, just shut out his thoughts about the matter. He’s avoiding any ambiguity about his decisions by following the Law, because the Law is a set of definite rules with a right and wrong answer. It makes it so easy: there are people who break the law. They are bad. There are people who follow the law. They are good. He is protecting the good and attacking the bad. It’s so simple like that; so relieving. But, what is he, now? What is something with no beliefs, that follows the law, that is made to be pointed and shot at the Bad in order to protect the Good?
He’s a gun now. Only a weapon of the police with an illusion of autonomy and belief. But where Superman has beliefs that his rules bend around, Batman has rules that his beliefs bend around.
#prev tags#YEAH FR#Bruce’s realization that Clark’s actions are not infallible coincides with the realization that the law is not infallible#and he is Terrified#because he NEEDS someone to tell him what to do#he needs a good to fight for#and he needs to know that it is good#he needs to follow good because he isn’t good himself#so after that he’s left with nothing..

hit the episode Tyger Tyger just now (I'm watching BTAS for the first time) and oh??? my god???? why the hell am I gonna have emotions like this over the anthro furry transformation Batman episode??
Dorian had a line about twenty years of work going down the drain. he also says that Tygrus is not his first attempt at a human/animal hybrids?? so even if we assume he meant slightly more than twenty years Tygrus is still probably barely 20 at most. he's like Dick's age. wtf. (I know he probably matured faster than a normal human would cause cat genetics but my god.) he refers to Dorian as his father, Batman assumes he was made in a test tube (and he's probably right) but even so like ???? did he raise him. how fast did he age. does he know how to read. he knows how to talk, what other skills did he learn from his father.
and then there's fucking Garth. who I think we're meant to assume was born human and forcibly altered, like Selina? he wears clothes. why does he get clothes but Tygrus doesn't 😭😭. it's also equally plausible that he was created as a monkey/human hybrid, no cat DNA whatsoever, since it is mentioned Dorian experimented on other primates before his retirement. but he's a lot more human-passing, a lot less feral than how Tygrus and even Selina in her half-cat form behave. who is he. where did he come from. I don't think he ever calls Dorian "father" and his design makes me think that he's closer to middle aged ?? was he just a guy?? why doesn't he grapple with his humanity. how long has he been working for Dorian. was it willingly?? is he just a furry hired goon that was down for whatever as long as he got to be monkey? Where did Batman take him. did he put him in prison. what is the ethical way to punish a half ape man criminal.
And then at the end??? Tygrus hands his father over to Batman bc he figures that Batman will help him?? and also opts to stay on the secluded island with the burning remains of his father's lab??? does he just live out the rest of his life as a wild animal? He's clearly capable of sentient thought. does he resent his humanity? does he resent his creator? Batman says Dorian has to be punished for his genetic crimes- do you think Tygrus sees himself as an affront to nature. does he have internalized furryphobia
jfc. I have so many questions. as far as I can tell from Google he was made for this show and only appeared in one episode and a spin off comic. what the hell. I hate it here.
#YOU!!!! YOU GET IT#I HAD SO MNAY THOUGHTS ABOUT TYGRUS TOO#HE DESERVES SO MUCH BETTER. HE WAS DOOMED TO FAIL BY HIS CREATOR#THE CRUELTY OF BEING BORN INTO A WORLD THAT DOESNT HAVE A PLACE FOR YOU!!#OF YOUR ONLY HOME BEING POISON!!!#OF KNOWING YOU WERE BORN OF TWO WORLDS AND NEITHER CAN HOLD YOU GENTLY.#of seeing yourself in animal and man and knowing they see none of themselves jn you#brainrot brainrot brainrot#Tygrus needs to be a part of the Batfam. shoot me

@cdpdoodler aaawgwhwhwghshwhw tysm I am cryinf 😭
I’m so glad you agree!! I’ve had a lot of things on my mind lately but I wouldn’t mind delving back into this AU and my super/Batman HCs if ppl like them ^^”
I think that his view of himself as a “good person” affects how Batman uses rescission making. In this world, at least, he kind of *doesn’t* view himself as a good person, likely because he couldn’t save his parents as a boy. Hell, nowadays he barely considers himself a person at all. So he made himself into a crime fighter with all the capacity for good, but none of the moral agency, Whereas Superman is kind of like the platonic ideal of what Bats could be; *wants* to be, but could never achieve. Because Superman is a good person.
Now, with the usual backstory it’s extremely obvious that there was nothing that Bruce could do to actually save his parents. He was like, 8. But in this AU I kind of want to write it in a way that Bruce actually could have done something, but made a mistake, and it cost his parents their lives. Something small, some mistake a little kid would make, but a mistake nonetheless - one with disaster plus consequences. Now he’s so afraid of making the wrong decision that he doesn’t trust himself with any at all.
This phrasing might not be the best cause I’m in a bus rn and trying not to get carsick but that was my other thoughts on the matter ^^”

Actually this is so real I work in an insurance agency in Metropolis and the rates are INSANE. Like its crazy out here. Turns out if you have a cataclysmic infrastructure-upending event every month it makes insurance companies overwork TF outta their employees.

If only there was some tech billionaire based in Metropolis that could donate a fraction of his enormous wealth to fund Metropolis repair teams and not leave the city to fix itself with volunteers. or even invent something that isn't a fucking MILITARY WEAPON for once??
