ok i just thought of this insanely specific marauders fame au!

- wolfstar, Sirius is a model and Remus is a cinematographer

- James is a rich philanthropist who works for parents billion dollar hair care conglomerate

- Regulus is an actor, he does a lot of weird indie movies 

- jegulus, they said fuck it and got married super young

- they vacation a lot, when Regulus isn’t filming, because James can work from anywhere

- Lily is an actor turned director (very Greta Gerwig) her movies are very experimental, but she’s critically acclaimed and no one denys she’s a genius 

- Lily and Remus work together a lot, one time Regulus even played the lead in one of Lily‘s movies 

(this is where it gets weird)

- Mary, Marlene, Dorcas, Barty, and Evan are all in a queer rock band 

- you wouldn’t expect them to work together so well but they do 

- all the fans find their whole friend group, fascinating, and mysterious

- most of them don’t post that much on social media, except for James, Marlene, and Sirius sometimes 

- Remus specifically is allergic to being in front of a camera

67. “Of all the people I could’ve gotten stuck in an elevator with and it just had to be you.”

Regulus hated his apartment building. It was somewhat new and flashy, sure, but was it built correctly? From the amount of times the elevator had been out of order that year, he assumed not. Taking the stairs had become a normal part of his and his brother's routine since they moved there, and even though it killed his knees every single time, getting the extra steps in wasn't terrible.

But seeing James Potter the moment he came out of the stairwell was.

"Jesus, were you waiting for me?" Regulus grunted as soon as he saw James' grin, huffing as he held on tight to his shopping bags.

"You want some help?"

"No, thank you, I can carry them myself." Regulus walked past him. He wasn't mean for no reason, far from it. He had met James on move in day and he just so happened to be in the apartment across from him and Sirius. He had seemed sweet at first, and god Regulus thought he was hot. Too hot, actually. So hot that he had dreams about him for weeks until he finally plucked up the courage to ask him out.

Well, he taped a note to his door. He thought it was cute.

"Reg, your brother invited me over to watch a movie later," James sang as he followed Regulus down the hall—he never got the hint to just leave Regulus alone.

"Okay."

"You wanna watch with us?"

"I'm good." Regulus balanced one bag on his hip as he fumbled with his keys, suddenly feeling a hand come up and take them from him. "Give them back—"

"Can you just let me help you? God, you're so dramatic." James muttered as he unlocked the door only to turn around again to see scowl on his neighbour's face.

"When will you leave me alone?" Regulus spat, snatching the keys back and almost dropping a bag in the process.

"When will you ever accept help?"

"I do accept help," Regulus lied, "just not from you." He stumbled into the flat and slammed the door before James could get another word in, and he let out a heavy.

That note had been ignored for two weeks. Two fucking weeks. James never said yes to the date and never even acknowledged it. It was like he took one look at it and threw it away. He didn't care. He was nice to him because he was Sirius' brother, that was all. And Regulus hated him.

Hated him because he was hot and he didn't like him back.

When the elevator finally got fixed, it was like a blessing from heaven. Regulus could now quickly jump in and avoid James altogether. No longer getting cornered on the stairs, not having to awkwardly walk down flights and flights without saying anything, just peaceful silence.

Except, when Regulus got in to go to the lobby and check his mail, James also noticed the lift and grinned. "Hey, it's fixed!"

Regulus tried to slam his hand on the button but James had practically sprinted to it, and he jumped through the closing doors just in time.

"Fuck sake," Regulus grumbled and leaned against the wall, folding his arms and glaring at the back of James' perfect, curly head. "Are you stalking me?"

"Nope." James popped the 'p' for effect. "Just going shopping. You?"

"Mail."

"Ooo, fun."

"James—"

"Why do hate me so much?" James turned to look over his shoulder at him and Regulus went still. "You avoid me, you snap at me, you basically want to develop Superman powers to shoot a laser through my head—"

"Don't act innocent, you know why I'm mad at you. It was a dick move," Regulus spat, "you could have just said you weren't interested."

James blinked, looking very confused. "What are you—" the lights flickered and without thinking, Regulus gripped the bar that wrapped around the edge of the lift, feeling his knuckles go white as the lift came to an abrupt, clunky halt. No. Fuck, no.

"Fuck! I thought they fixed it!" James pressed some buttons, but of course nothing happened. "Dammit." Regulus scoffed behind him. "Now what?"

“Of all the people I could’ve gotten stuck in an elevator with and it just had to be you.”

"And what's so wrong with me?" James fully spun around to face him and Regulus backed himself into the corner. "You're such a dick to me, Reg."

"You pretended like I never gave you that stupid note! I was really nervous, okay? I've never asked anyone out before and you just ghosted me! And now you hang out at my apartment and basically kiss my brothers ass like you never did anything wrong!" The two of them went very quiet, only the soft whirring of the elevator attempting to start back up around them.

"What are you talking about? You asked me out? When?" James frowned.

"Christ, like, a month ago. More than that. I put that note on your door and asked you out to dinner and you just—"

"I didn't get a note!" James looked genuinely confused and now so was Regulus.

"You...I taped it there, it was bright green, how could you miss it?"

"I swear I never saw anything, are you like...pranking me?"

"Why would I pretend to ask you out?"

"I mean, you already act like a dick, I wouldn't be surprised."

"Fuck you! I'm a dick because you ghosted me!"

"I didn't even know you liked me!"

"Of course I like you!" Silence.

James blinked a few times and then licked his lips. "You still like me?"

Regulus could tell he was blushing and he looked away. "No. I mean, no. You're an asshole. Why would I?"

"Because you just said."

"Well...explain the note."

"Christ, we have cleaners! Maybe it fuckin' fell or something and they swept it up? You know how many letters I've dropped in the hallway and never seen again?"

"So what, you just don't pay bills that you lose?"

James rolled his eyes. "Look, if you genuinely asked me out...I'm really sorry I didn't see it. I would have said yes, of course I would have." Regulus shuffled his feet nervously and James smiled. "Were you really that mad at me?"

"Yes," he mumbled and James smiled even wider. "don't look at me like that."

"What, that I like you and you're adorable when you're embarrassed?"

"I'm not embarrassed, fuck off."

"Ask me again." James stood a little taller and Regulus felt his mouth get dry. Could someone please rescue them from this stupid lift already?

"Ask what?"

"Ask me out."

"James—"

"Please?" He had that fucking look in his eye from the first day they met, hopeful, and Regulus melted.

"Would you like to go to dinner with me, James?"

"I thought you'd never ask. But we have to get the fire department first, or you'll be eating me for dinner to survive." Regulus almost regretted asking him again.

Almost.
