New WIP!!!
Heartpulse Horizon
---
In the hyper-advanced city of Solara Prime, where technology governs every heartbeat, Lou Scheiner’s life is shattered when a malevolent, otherworldly force known as the Null tears through his world, leaving him with nothing but grief and rage.
The Aurora League, an elite group of superhuman Aetherials wielding cutting-edge Aethertech, arrives too late to save what matters most. Reeling from loss, Lou is unexpectedly drawn into their orbit, invited to compete in the brutal Aetherial Trials—a chance to join their ranks. Reluctantly guided by a mysterious, silver-haired stranger with amber-tinted glasses, Lou faces a gauntlet of danger, alliances, and self-discovery. Alongside a sharp-tongued girl who defies expectations and a growing bond that feels both dangerous and inevitable, Lou must confront his pain and decide whether he can fight for a world that failed him.
In a dazzling clash of tech, power, and heart, Black Star rises as a rebellion against despair, proving that even in a world of monsters, hope can burn brighter than ever.
---
Character Introduction
LOU SCHEINER
Age: 18
Birthday: March 12, 2007
Zodiac Sign: Pisces
Ethnicity: Mixed ( reflecting Solara Prime’s diverse megacity)
Height: 5’10” (178 cm)
Build: Lean but wiry, built for speed and resilience
Eyes: Stormy gray, with a faint flicker of defiance
Hair: Ashy brown-black, slightly messy, medium-length with a tendency to fall into his eyes
Skin Tone: Olive, slightly weathered from street life
Dominant Hand: Right
Style: Practical and unpolished—worn cargo pants, his mother’s old utility jacket (faded green with too many pockets), scuffed boots. After joining the Trials, he adopts a minimalist black Aethertech suit with blue pulse lines.
Moodboard: Urban decay, cracked concrete, stormy skies, flickering neon signs, a single wilted flower, a bloodied metal pipe, a glowing Aethertech glove, a photo of a smiling mother and son, rain-slicked streets, a clenched fist.
Appearance:
Lou’s face carries the weight of loss—sharp cheekbones, a jaw that tightens when he’s angry, and gray eyes that seem to hold a storm. His hair is perpetually tousled, like he just rolled out of a fight or a bad dream. Scars from his Null encounter mark his ribs and hands, faint but visible. He moves with a restless energy, always ready to bolt or brawl, but there’s a softness in his gaze when he looks at something that reminds him of home.
Past:
Lou grew up in Aurum Sector, a middle-tier district of Solara Prime, raised by his single mother, Celia, who ran a plant café and taught him to fix small tech gadgets. Life was simple—school, helping at the café, sneaking onto rooftops to watch the city’s lights. That ended when a Null attack took Celia, leaving Lou as the sole survivor after a desperate, futile fight. Orphaned and angry, he’s haunted by her death and the Aetherials’ failure to arrive in time, fueling his distrust of TAL and his reluctance to join their world.
Personality & Traits
✔ Fiercely loyal—would die for those he loves.
✔ Stubborn to a fault, refuses to back down even when outmatched.
✔ Emotionally raw, wears his heart on his sleeve despite trying to hide it.
✔ Quick-witted in a crisis, adapts fast to danger.
✔ Deeply empathetic, feels others’ pain like his own.
✔ Reckless when angry, often acts before thinking.
✔ Haunted by guilt, blames himself for not saving his mother.
Hobbies:
Tinkering with old tech (learned from his mom).
Rooftop running to clear his head.
Sketching cityscapes in a battered notebook.
Listening to lo-fi music on cracked earbuds.
Quirks:
Twirls a small screwdriver when nervous, a habit from his mom.
Mutters to himself when frustrated, half-cursing, half-planning.
Always checks exits in a room, a reflex from the Null attack.
Keeps a pressed flower from his mom’s café in his jacket pocket.
Likes & Dislikes
✅ Likes:
The smell of rain on concrete.
Street food stalls (especially spicy rice cakes).
Honest people who don’t sugarcoat things.
The hum of a well-built machine.
Night skies with visible stars (rare in Solara Prime).
Moments of quiet with someone he trusts.
❌ Dislikes:
The Aurora League’s polished heroism.
Crowds cheering for spectacle over substance.
People who give up without a fight.
The sterile smell of hospitals.
Being pitied or patronized.
Betrayal or broken promises.
Favorite Food:
Spicy rice cakes with chili oil (his mom’s recipe).
Grilled skewers from street vendors.
Bitter black tea, no sugar.
A Line That Defines Him:
“I don’t need your heroes. I needed you there.”
~~~
ELIAS VARN
Age: 22
Birthday: October 27, 2003
Zodiac Sign: Scorpio
Ethnicity: European descent (possibly German-Italian roots)
Height: 6’0” (183 cm)
Build: Slim but toned, with a dancer’s grace and precision
Eyes: Hazel, often hidden behind light amber-tinted prescription glasses
Hair: Iridescent silver with rose-gold underlights, styled in a sleek, slightly tousled boy cut
Skin Tone: Pale, almost luminescent under Eidolon’s artificial lights
Dominant Hand: Ambidextrous
Style: Minimalist and futuristic—fitted matte black or slate-gray jackets, high-collared shirts, slim boots with subtle tech accents. His glasses and hair are his signature, giving him an enigmatic, untouchable vibe.
Moodboard: Chrome surfaces, glowing circuit boards, starlit voids, amber-tinted lenses, a single rose-gold thread, a sleek hoverbike, holographic blueprints, a shadowed observation deck, a faint smirk.
Appearance:
Elias is a paradox—striking yet elusive, like a blade hidden in silk. His silver hair catches light in prismatic waves, with rose-gold underlights that glow faintly in the dark. His amber-tinted glasses obscure his sharp hazel eyes, making him hard to read. He moves with calculated elegance, every gesture deliberate, but there’s a tension in his posture, like he’s always holding something back. A faint scar on his left wrist hints at a past he doesn’t share.
Past:
Elias's origins are shrouded. His anonymity is by choice—he prefers to work in the shadows, observing rather than engaging. His decision to join the Trials is a rare break, driven by an inexplicable pull toward Lou.
Personality & Traits
✔ Brilliant strategist, always three steps ahead.
✔ Guarded, hides vulnerability behind wit and detachment.
✔ Charismatic when he chooses to be, with a magnetic pull.
✔ Relentlessly curious, especially about human emotion.
✔ Perfectionist, frustrated by his own rare mistakes.
✔ Secretly yearns for connection but fears it.
✔ Ruthlessly protective of those he lets in.
Hobbies:
Designing experimental tech in his private lab.
Riding his sleek black hoverbike at reckless speeds.
Studying human behavior through surveillance archives.
Playing chess against AI (and winning).
Quirks:
Adjusts his glasses when flustered, a rare tell.
Hums obscure classical melodies while working.
Always carries a micro-toolkit disguised as a pen.
Stares too long when he thinks no one notices.
Likes & Dislikes
✅ Likes:
The hum of perfectly calibrated tech.
Late-night cityscapes from high vantage points.
People who surprise him (rare).
The challenge of solving impossible problems.
Dark chocolate with sea salt.
Lou’s unguarded moments (though he’d never admit it).
❌ Dislikes:
Inefficiency or sloppy work.
Being forced to reveal his thoughts.
Loud, chaotic crowds.
Failure, especially his own.
Predictable people.
Sweet, overly sugary foods.
Favorite Food:
Dark chocolate with sea salt.
Black coffee, no additives.
Sashimi with wasabi.
A Line That Defines Him:
“Everything’s a puzzle. The trick is knowing which pieces you’re allowed to break.”
Hi, your wips look really cool! Under His Mercy caught my attention especially, because I'm a microbiology student, so I gotta ask since every microbiologist has one, what's Razia's favorite microbe?
Oooooh a question about my WIP !!!
Okay I haven't actually thought much about it yet as it's just a idea in my head for the moment. But based on Razia's past ( giving away too much details already aaaaahhhhh) , I would say her favourite microbe is : Necrotizing Fasciitis
Understood understood understood
Can I just say something honestly and very seriously to all you writers?
With the Internet going down the "nothing adult, no death, no nothing. Make it kid friendly" route,
Please don't ever stop making art or writing wips that are gruesome, horror, other things like that. Don't let the Internet sanitize how you wanna tell a story. Channel your rage into your art and keep going and don't give up
This is sooo freaking cool 😎
Tumblr media
i'm ren (or vacant), writing as R.A.A. and this is my main writing blog!
this is a catch all space for me to post about all things writing which will include things like snippets from my many wips; live writing updates as i craft prose; horny and meme posting about my ocs; meta about the themes of my wips, their plots, and writing in general; as well as me just talking about whatever else comes to mind regarding my interests as well as talking with friends.
you can pretty much find me mostly here or on bluesky (though because it is a twitter clone i am much, much less talkative. the war flashbacks are still hard to get over apparently). you can also read my fandom writing on ao3 (though i’m taking a bit of a hiatus from it right now). if you read anything from there i’d highly suggest reading cage.
thanks for stopping by :3c
:MY WIPS:
to see a full (mostly) list of my wips, i made a handy-ish list that lists all the main things that i'm working on and their (mostly current) importance in my ever-rotating roster HERE!
however, there are a few wips that i am mostly going to be talking about more often than not, and i've taken the liberty of making a few scrapbook-esque posters in canva to illustrate their main points. so, without further ado:
BETWIXT THUMB & FOREFINGER (BTAF) -> wip intro || read: ACT I PART I || character intros || modern continuation
Tumblr media
THE FALL OF GALERE BOOK 1: PARAMOUR -> wip intro || read: CHAPTER 1 || character intros
Tumblr media
HE WHO SMITES THE SUN -> wip intro || read: CHAPTER 1
Tumblr media
:NAVIGATION:
ren writing -> all of my writing in one place
ren poems -> all of my poems in one place
ren art -> all my art
talking -> musings and personal thoughts
about renjamin -> insight to me / who i am
ren analysis -> when i get meta about my wips
ren mix -> a treasure trove of my music taste
ren polls -> any polls i make
ren reads -> for my ramblings and analysis as i try to get back into books
ren hot cakes -> when i'm firing shots in the house to keep the mortgage prices down
ren plays -> video game rantings and ravings
friends tag -> talking with friends or boosting my friends work
others work -> boosting other writeblrs work
hall of fame -> praise / things that make me happy that i want to keep
ren is jopping on main -> for the rare occasions where i talk about kpop
ren rabbit hole -> i like history and mythology and the ancient world and i Will ramble about it
ren fights linguistics -> i'm starting to try and conlang!! it will be hard!!
Notes on Torturing The Character In The Science Facility
my takes on this trope rarely if ever have anything to do with the character being "special" or being studied for powers they innately have, if they are special its something that was done to them
it's about the medical trauma
it's about the violation and lack of bodily autonomy
the "living weapon" trope, but the key characteristic is catastrophic functionality
i love, love, love the concept of "catastrophic functionality" in a person: character that can tank ludicrous amounts of damage and just Keep Going in virtually all circumstances barring outright dismemberment. They can keep going, so do they "deserve" rest and/or pain relief?
after a lifetime of having their distress treated as whiny and unreasonable, they have what would be a dangerously high tolerance to pain and exhaustion.
another key function of the Science Facility is to fix the damage Character takes, maybe using enhanced healing technologies or 3D printed organs or something. this leads to Character's body being treated as relatively disposable cause "we can just fix them"
extreme version of this: Character can't die even if they wanted to
people who work with Character are informed that they're dangerous and arbitrarily violent, and their fear of Character makes it easier to justify restricting autonomy
It is TRUE, cause Character does not have tools to set boundaries or protect their body other than violence. vicious cycle of being perceived as dangerous and therefore denied autonomy, and being forced to use violence to defend autonomy
the restraints used to hold Character look like major overkill, which underscores how dangerous they are. LOVE this trope
character being desexualized to the point that their non-consent to touch, to being stripped down and examined, or to procedures is trivialized. There is no non-clinical context for their body, and the "clinical" framework eclipses any possibility for bodily violation to be understood as violent.
types of uncanniness: Character looks human but has some subtle inhuman traits or characteristics. (I'm obsessed with reflective eye shine, personally.) OR Character looks like they've been taken apart and put back together, like flesh pulled over a much more unforgiving and indestructible metal scaffold. OR Character gives off "undead" vibes; they're just not quite alive in a way that sets off air raid sirens in people's brains
Often, Character is dead and Came Back Wrong (varying levels of literalness)
anyways yeah. i never stopped writing this trope and probably never will. it's a good one
Tagging @rambling-madwoman @theink-stainedfolk @val-the-bun because I wanna know about their OCs
what will your character do..
(reblog and brainstorm, lovelies! u can also write drabbles with theseee )
if they're met face to face with their plot, with no warning?
if they're stressed?
if they're happy? who will they want to share it with?
if they're sad? will they go to anyone for comfort? if yes, who?
if they're forced into a life of death situation?
if they're being threatened?
if they're kissed by their ex?
if they're confessed to by someone who they had no clue liked them? (given, they're single or not)
if their lover betrays them?
if they're coughing up blood out of the blue?
if there's a strange presence in the room, and it feels ominous?
if they discovered a dead body?
^ if the dead body is their best friend? (great question to start and develop a plot)
if their enemy is at their doorstep, bruised and injured?
if they had to share a bed with someone they don't particularly hate? ahem
if they had to be fed by someone they didn't like/their crush?
if their partner-to-be? enemy? pulls them into a secluded and shushes them? (their bodies pressing and all that!!)
when asked to choose between their family and their lover? (given the circumstances of ur story)
when kissed on their head by their enemy after a near death experience?
if they're dancing with a stranger, and the stranger says 'stop dancing, sweetheart and you'll hunted. do u wanna die?' ?
if they find out the food that served to them has glass dust on it? (who is it served by?)
when being pulled into a hug when they most need it by someone they least expect?
when they have to hold someone they loved at a gun point? why would it even occur?
when they have to choose between their own life and their lover's?
when they've to give up something (of great importance to the character) to save their lover?
🌟 Creating Character Names: A Non-Basic Guide for Fantasy Writers 🌟
Tumblr media
Listen up fellow writers! aggressively slides into your dashboard with chai in hand Let's talk about one of the most CHAOTIC yet FUN parts of writing - naming your precious book babies!
👀 First things first - throw out everything you know about "normal" naming conventions because honey, we're going WILD today!
Here's the tea: Your character's name is literally their FIRST impression on the page. It's their brand™️, their essence, their whole vibe condensed into a few syllables. And in fantasy? The rules? We don't know her.
🔮 Non-Basic Methods for Name Creation:
The Vibes-Based Approach
Close your eyes and picture your character
What color are they giving off?
What texture?
Now translate that into sounds
Example: A character who feels like liquid silver might be named Sylthra or Mercurine
2. The Meaning Mashup Method
Take 2-3 words that represent your character
Break them apart
Frankenstein them back together
Example: Brave (Fortis) + Storm (Tempest) = Fortempest
3. The Aesthetic Alchemy Instead of just picking random syllables, think about:
How does the name look on the page?
Does it have strong consonants or flowing vowels?
Would it look good written in blood on a magical contract? (IMPORTANT)
🌙 Pro Tips That Nobody Talks About:
Test Drive Your Names
Write them in different fonts
Yell them dramatically
Whisper them mysterously
If you can't dramatically whisper "Lord Xylophone the Terrible" without giggling, maybe reconsider
2. The Name Evolution Game Your character's name should have:
A formal version
A nickname
What their enemies call them
What their mom yells when they're in trouble Example: Theodora → Thea → The Midnight Witch → THEODORA BLACKTHORN GET DOWN HERE THIS INSTANT
3. Cultural Consideration (but make it fantasy)
Create naming patterns for different regions/species
Maybe elves use lots of 'ae' and 'th' sounds
Perhaps dragon-folk names always start with a hiss
Desert dwellers might have names that sound like wind through sand
🔥 Advanced Name-Crafting Techniques:
The Emotional Echo Method
Write down the key emotion of your character
Find its opposite
Create a name that somehow bridges both Example: A character who's both gentle and fierce → Lysander (means "liberator" but sounds soft)
The Musical Approach
Names have rhythm
They have melody
Try singing your character names
If it sounds like a spell, EVEN BETTER
💫 Remember:
Names can be weapons (looking at you, True Name magic systems)
They can be prophecies
They can be curses
They can be LIES
🚫 What to Avoid (but like, in a non-basic way):
Names that look like you headbutted your keyboard
Names so complex your readers need a pronunciation guide every 2 pages
Names that are just regular names with random 'y's thrown in (looking at you, Kathryn → Kathyryn → Kathyyryn)
✨ Final Thoughts: Your character's name is a spell you're casting on your readers. Make it memorable. Make it meaningful. Make it YOURS.
And remember, if all else fails, you can always name them after what they had for breakfast. (Looking at you, Toast the Dragonslayer 👀)
sips chai aggressively
That's all for today's chaotic naming advice! Drop a 🌟 if you're gonna rename all your characters now! - Rin T.
[Note: Feel free to reblog and add your own chaotic naming methods! Let's build this resource together!]
Oooooohhh interesting 🤓
Weirdly Healing Things to Do When You’re Feeling Creatively Burned Out...
Write a fake 5-star Goodreads review of your WIP—as if you didn’t write it. Go ahead. Pretend you're a giddy reader who just discovered this masterpiece. Bonus: add emojis, chaotic metaphors, and all-caps screaming. It’s self-indulgent. It’s delusional. It’s delicious.
Give your main character a Pinterest board titled “Mentally Unstable but Aesthetic.” Include outfits, quotes, memes, cursed objects, and that one painting that haunts their dreams. This is not about logic. This is about ✨vibes.✨
Make a “deleted scenes” folder and write something that would never make it into the book. A crackfic. A “what if they were roommates” AU. The group chat from hell. This is your WIP’s blooper reel. Let it be silly, chaotic, or wildly off-brand.
Interview your villain like you’re Oprah. Ask the hard-hitting questions. “When did you know you were the drama?” “Do you regret the murder, or just the way you did it?” Bonus points if they lie to your face.
Host a fake awards show for your characters. Categories like “Most Likely to Die for Vibes,” “Worst Emotional Regulation,” “Himbo Energy Supreme,” or “Best Use of a Dramatic Exit.” Write their acceptance speeches. Yes, this counts as writing.
Write a breakup letter… to your inner critic. Be petty. Be dramatic. “Dear Self-Doubt, this isn’t working for me anymore. You bring nothing to the table but anxiety and bad vibes.” Rip it up. Burn it. Tape it to your mirror. Your call.
Create a “writing comfort kit” like you’re a cozy witch. A candle that smells like your WIP. A tea that your characters would drink. A playlist labeled “for writing when I’m one rejection email away from giving up.” This is a ritual now.
Design a fake movie poster or book cover like your story is already famous. Add star ratings, critic quotes, and some pretentious tagline like “One soul. One destiny. No chill.”
Write a scene you’re not ready to write—but just a rough, messy outline version. Not the polished thing. Just the raw emotion. The shape of it. Like sketching the bones of a future punch to the gut. You don’t have to make it perfect. Just open the door.
Let your story be bad on purpose for a day. Like, aggressively bad. Give everyone ridiculous names. Add an evil talking cat. Write a fight scene with laser swords and emotional damage. Just remind yourself that stories are meant to be played with, not feared.
