Human Penny missing her Gynoid body

I made a post about wanting to write this, but I was waiting until I watched Volumes 7 & 8

So now that I have, here it is

This one is a bit longer, so the story will be under the cut

Ruby wakes up with her heart pounding and a scream dying in her mouth.

It's not unfamiliar to wake up with half-remembered nightmares still on her mind, but it's something that's only gotten worse ever since Atlas fell too.

When her heart finally starts to settle down, the sound of snoring registers in her ears. She looks over at the other bed in the room to see Blake and Yang still asleep and cuddling with each other.

She nearly lies back down again until she notices that Weiss has somehow wormed her way into where she was lying only a few minutes ago.

Ruby takes the moment to look at her partner's peaceful expression. She smiles to herself, happy that Weiss isn't having any nightmares like she was.

That's when she notices it.

Only Weiss is in their bed, and Penny's spot on Weiss' other side is completely empty

She quickly glances around the room, not seeing her friend anywhere.

With a frown, she carefully crawls over her partner and off the bed. She turns around and makes sure Weiss is covered up and still sleeping before she silently slips out of the room.

She fidgets with her hands, worrying about where Penny could be and that something could be wrong with her friend.

Ever since they escaped the Ever After, Penny hasn't acted much like herself.

You haven't been either, and she's been through more than you.

Ruby stops walking sucking in a deep breath and then letting it out. She holds her arms close to herself, "I've been trying to do better...I am doing better..."

She tries to ignore the memory of Penny's Neo's face that night when her mind inevitably drifts in that direction.

Ruby sighs, searching the halls of Shade and trying to think of where Penny might have gone.

She hears a clanging noise coming down the hall and notices a light peeking under the doorway to this floor's kitchen.

Opening the door to the kitchen, Ruby has to stifle a laugh at the sight of Penny covered in flour, "What are you doing?"

Penny whips around, dropping the bowl she's holding. It nearly hits the ground, but Ruby rushes over in a flurry of petals and catches the bowl.

Ruby nervously chuckles, handing the bowl to Penny, "That would have been loud."

Letting out a sigh of relief, Penny places the bowl onto the counter. She continues to stare at the counter, a mess of ingredients sitting on it.

"What are you making?" Ruby sidles up to her, a frown forming on her face as she gets a look at her friend's expression.

With a teary-eyed frown and her voice quivering, Penny answers, "I-I thought that I would make pancakes for everyone since I woke up early. I watched Ren make them the other day, so I-I thought that I could do it..."

Seeing tears beginning to run down Penny's face, Ruby pulls her into a hug. Penny's arms wrap tightly around her as she buries her head into Ruby's neck. Unsure what to do, she copies her sister and moves her hand to gently cradle the back of Penny's head.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Ruby probes, not wanting to upset Penny any more than she already is.

She hears a muffled response, "Talk about what?"

"Why you're crying."

Ruby gently strokes the back of Penny's head until she lifts her head up and pulls away from the hug, "I...had a dream, and when I woke up, I couldn't stop thinking about it."

"A nightmare?" Ruby reaches over and grabs her friend's hand in an attempt to comfort her.

Penny sniffs, shaking her head and wiping away her tears, "No, it was a...happy dream. We were at Beacon together. I don't remember everything that happened in it, but I recall us lying together in your dorm, like we do now."

"Then what's the problem?" Ruby asks, both confused and worried.

Penny looks away from Ruby, "I...I don't know if it would make sense."

"Even if it doesn't, I still don't mind listening." Ruby gives Penny's hand a gentle squeeze.

Penny's eyes meet Ruby's, her face flushing at the other girl's words.

With Ruby giving her a comforting smile, Penny has to force herself to look away.

There's another moment of silence as Penny gathers her thoughts. Softly, Penny begins to speak, "In my dream, I wasn't human."

"It was so real..." She looks down at her free hand, staring at her fingers as she moves them, "It was like when I was rebuilt and powered back on all over again."

"What was it like?" Ruby asks, following Penny's gaze to look at her friend's other hand.

"I was excited about the new upgrades to my hardware. I could fly on my own, without Floating Array propelling me, and my senses were so much better. I was in control of my body and-" Meeting Ruby's eyes again, Penny smiles softly, "I enjoyed it."

Then, with a frown replacing her smile, Penny finishes, "...and then, when I woke up from my dream, I was human again."

Studying Penny's face, Ruby feels guilt pool in her gut, "Have you felt like this the whole time?"

"When we first got to Vacuo, it was much worse. Suddenly, I had to maintain my body multiple times a day in many more ways than I was used to. However, now I've grown used to it and it's much easier with you and Weiss helping me."

With a wan smile, Penny grasps Ruby's other hand, "It also makes me feel closer to you. I'm able to enjoy hugs a lot more now, and cuddling is even better! I don't even have to worry about hurting you!"

"But would you rather have your old body?"

Penny's eyes widen slightly and her smile drops, "I...I think so. Sometimes my body doesn't feel right. My legs or arms don't move like I want them to, like they should. I feel uncomfortable, not knowing what is going on with my body at times. Before, I could run a diagnostics and figure out what the issue was, but now it's much more difficult."

Ruby envelops Penny in a hug, "I'm sorry. I thought that you were happy with your body now."

"I am happy!" Penny returns Ruby's hug, squeezing her much more tightly, "I get to spend every day with you!"

Theres no response from Ruby other than her arms tightening around Penny.

In a much softer voice, Penny adds, "You saved me, Ruby. I might not always be happy my body, but I'll always be glad to still be here."

Once again, the two girls' eyes meet, their faces a similar shade of red.

"I'm glad that you're here too, Penny! I wish that I had known about this earlier....Maybe we can get your old body back somehow, or even get you a new one? Once we get the staff again, we could probably get Ambrosius to-"

Ruby stops talking when Penny interjects, an embarrassed smile on her face, "Ruby?"

"Yes?"

"I think that I would like to kiss you."

Ruby's eyes widen significantly, and despite how casually Penny said those words, she looked about as nervous as Ruby felt, "Y-you do?"

Penny frowns slightly, "Yes...Do you not want me to kiss you?"

Panicking at the sudden downturn in Penny's mood, Ruby blurts out, "I would love to!"

She puts her hands over her mouth, looking over toward the doorway, hoping that she didn't accidentally wake anyone up. Penny giggles at the look on Ruby's face, and soon enough, Ruby begins to as well.

When their eyes meet again, Penny quietly asks, "Would you like to kiss...now?"

Imitating what she's seen her sister do once again, Ruby cups Penny's face in her shaking hands, "Yes."

Leaning in toward Penny, Ruby's eyes glance from Penny's lips to her eyes once more before she finally closes them, her heart pounding in her chest.

Tears begin running down Penny's face once again when Ruby's lips touch her own, the feeling of the other girl's hands on her face keeping her from getting lost in her chaotic mess of thoughts.

Soon enough, the only thing that she can process is the sensation of Ruby pressing against her and the love for her burning in her chest.

Ruby can't remember the last time she felt so much joy. She's spent so long hoping for something like this to happen, so afraid to make the first move.

She wants to laugh and cry, but instead she leans further, gently pressing Penny into the kitchen counter as she deepens the kiss.

They don't remember how much time passes before they part, only the fact that they're left breathless and leaning against each other.

Volume 8 ending, but instead of giving the maiden Powers to Winter, she gives then to Jeanne (Who may or may not be her girlfriend in this scenario)

I started this off intending it to be really fucking sad but I love Penny too much not to give a happy-ish ending

Bile crawls up his throat. Crocea Mors shakes in his grip, his hand tightening on its handle until his bones creak.

"I- Penny, you-" He barely chokes out the words, seeming to stick in his throat like the universe is denying him last words with his beloved. Again.

Penny has a gentle, reassuring smile on her face as her blood pools out of her - blood that should be in her, keeping her alive if she would just let him - the smile brings a fresh wave of nausea. How can she be so, so... gentle, while asking him to do this!? He sees those damn tears in her eyes, the pain and fear in them, why is she putting on a brave face for him of all people!

Why won't she let him do the only thing he's good for!?

"P-please, Lover Arc..."

That voice, that fucking voice...

Using her special name for him "Lover Arc", instead of the "Boyfriend Jaune" practically everyone expected her to use...

He could never say no when she called him that.

His heart is rent in two.

The sword comes down, as choking sobs are ripped from his throat.

He's no longer on the bridge.

It's some sort of white void, and he sees-

"Salutations!"

"P-Penny...?" His voice is weak and... strange. Not quite how he remembers it. "How are- what's going on..."

"You're getting the Maiden powers." His girlfriend says with that fucking smile on her face that makes his heart stutter.

"How..."

"I thought of you, Lover. How could I not?"

"B-but I'm not a woman..." They protest. They notice that their form in this in-between void is... indistinct. Not how it is in reality.

"Oh Lover, you always made me feel like a real girl, even before I got my new body. I would have loved to help you explore this. But, I can at least do this for you."

"But you're leaving me. Why do you have to leave..." Their voice is... higher than they remember, lighter. Even as it cracks with emotion.

"Oh, Lover..." Penny pulls them in for a hug. "I won't be gone. I'll be with you."

They kiss each other as she sobs. Penny wipes her tears. The abstract representation of her soul resolves into that of a woman as Penny disappears.

Arc opens her eyes, wreathed in royal blue flames as tears stream down them. Grief rages in her chest, along with the ice cold burning of Hellfire. A blizzard rages around her. She vaguely remembers that Maiden powers are influenced by emotions as she gazes at Cinder Fall, staring at Arc in disbelief, and razor winds slash down, attempting to cut her into ribbons.

Aura is the manifestation of the Soul.

Maiden powers are connected to the Soul.

She can boost Aura.

Penny will be with her. Always.

With a cry, she boosts her Aura higher than ever before, her Soul rising and rising until-

She can feel her. The combat prowess of the most advanced creation Atlas had ever made. The curiosity that flowed from her mind like a waterfall.

And love. So, so much love. For her father and her friends and Ruby and her. She feels it, like her Soul is touching a livewire, and it's addicting. She never wants it to stop. She wants to feel like this, with her Lover, forever.

'Oh Lover...' She hears as a whisper in the wind, a thrumming in the storm.

"Lets do this, Penny." She says in a shaky, watery voice.

Their souls brush against each other again. She Amplifies her Aura further and further again, fueling it with her newfound Magic, until-

A figure steps away from hers, peeling itself out of her body like astral projection. A body made of ice and Magic and living lightning, grafted atop a physical manifestation of pure Aura.

Penny Polendina's fourth body steps out from behind her girlfriend, forever connected to her, forever with her. And then, two as one, they speak.

"WE ARE COMBAT READY!"

I love the idea of Ruby being the more artistic between her and Yang. I like to think she's the one who painted Bumblebee. she's the one who touches up Yang's prosthetic when the paint starts to peel and chip after a tough battle, and adding little designs more complicated than the original spray can Yang gave it. maybe she does embroidery or sews little things to the clothes of people she loves. Just. Ruby Rose being an artist. I feel like it fits her
