Hi! Major sambucky enthusiastic here! This is some of my thoughts about their age gap!!

So Sam is in his forty's probably pushing 50 while Bucky is 110, it's a pretty far age gap between them. But Bucky's REAL age isn't really known since they placed him in a chamber while he was the Winter Soldier so he could be really young. Seeing that Bucky is still really active is giving late 20s-30s.

Now this is a thought, Bucky is older and younger then everyone. Everyone might perceive him as the cold, mean, judgemental mentor. When he just wants to be comforted, he may be old but he still is fresh. When he was drafted he was in his early 20s, he didnt have the time to grow up, to mature.

And with being drafted, he had to realize that he couldn't act like a kid anymore. That there are more to the battlefield, when they first started to experiment on him when he was captured before being rescued by Steve. He was afraid, he panicked and asked questions to Steve. But he knew to trust Steve, and that he couldn't keep being weak, being vulnerable

Thats a reason why he kept close to Steve, both in the 40s and 2000s, he wanted comfort, someone he could act his age with. And now that Steve is gone, he has to pretend again. Then Sam came, someone who reminded him of Steve, someone he cared about, someone he could act young too.

And Sam knew this, being best friends with Steve has its perks. Him letting Bucky be himself, to comfort him. And Bucky knows Sam would never leave him, not like Steve. He always knew Steve loved Peggy more than anyone in the world. And hearing about Time Travel, he knew he lost Steve.

And with Steve, his world. Yet when he saw Sam wielding the shield, he saw hope, he saw his world back.

And now Sam is on the opposite side, unlike Civil War. Someone he trusted, now he had to fight.

Battlefield to Chess:

Erik despised Charles with half of his heart. He doesn't care about him, and his choices, after years of fighting. He truly hated him, but there was something about them that he admired, he hated with half his heart, and the other half? Was divided with feelings and confusion. Even though they could never be at peace, there was only one thing that kept them together.

Chess. Somehow what united their two fronts together, some say it was a metaphor for their conflict, to strategize, or even to uncover information about each other. That's what they thought, but for them, what others thought was a way to overpower each other. It was just a simple game between old friends, enemies, and more.

In the dark lit room, a table between 2 chairs. "It's your turn, darling" Charles said, crossing his legs and taking a small sip of his neat whiskey. Erik hasn't spoken in a while, enjoying the silence of the room. Which was odd as he was always the one sharing stories and making cheeky comments. Erik pushed his pawn forward in a swift motion, that's how he played. Fast and efficient, unlike Charles who took his time.

"A lot on your mind?" Charles said in the bleak of silence, staring his ocean blue eyes into Erik's dark brown eyes. Erik couldn't resist his eyes, "it's nothing." Erik grunted out, "you don't need to tell me anything love" Charles responded. Erik didn't know if it was just british lingo but Erik always fluttered from the British man's words. After a few moments, Charles finally spoke out "Were still foes at the end of the day" Charles moved his queen, which Erik took just a moment later. Getting an annoyed gasp from Charles.

"i don't even need to read your mind, sweetheart" Charles said, It was true though. Erik had nothing but bleakness on his face. "Its not that-" Erik responded but was rudely cut off by Charles. "No i understand, it's weird" Charles said, Erik was annoyed. At this point Charles was just arguing with himself.

"It's just- Mystique thinks it's weird that we play chess as we are still arch enemies." Erik said out, he then played his turn, using his castle, taking Charles' bishop. "It is weird" Charles said, smirking out. Erik couldn't do much but give a small laugh. It is weird. Being enemies for over 30 years, people think we would be at each other's throat at all times. But behind the battlefield, they still are those 2 men giggling playing chess.

"Don't listen to Raven, i thought we both agreed that" Charles smiled out, Raven was always the judge, making sly and mean comments was her thing. Nothing that Charles and Erik haven't encountered. "I know, but it has made me think" Erik replied, "How can we call ourselves enemies like this?" Charles gave a small smile to the comment, "We are enemies, nor foes." Charles said, "We're just old friends" Charles continued, Erik smiled, he was right. They were never enemies, they were just 2 sides of the same coin.

"Checkmate" Erik smirked out, taking Charles king out. Charles gave out an annoyed and exhausted groan. At the moment, as Charles was resetting the board. Only one thing was on Erik's mind.

Who cares what they think? If he wants to play chess with his husband old friend, he will.
