Where does the augmented reality sandbox end and where do the students begin? More games during Bering Sea Days where our kids are having a blast and learning at the same time. Thank you, Cristina, for creating this rad ecosystem jenga. The kids not only loved that part of it, but were really fascinated by the coding Cristina used to create the computer portion of the game (that showed the results of what was happening on the Ecosystem when you added or removed certain parts of it). This game was also a hit! #alaska #stpaulisland #beringsea #games #jenga #ecosystem #science #forscience #kidscience #learn #grow #explore #discover #code #computer #library #BSD2017 (at St. Paul, Alaska)

Lauren telling Ocean Bowl students about her journey to becoming a scientist. Hint: it’s not what you’d expect! There isn’t one exact way to become a scientist, each journey is unique and special, and the lessons learned along the way all work toward science success! #alaska #sitka #ocean #oceanbowl #students #science #forscience #learn #grow #discover #teach #explore #research #adventure #findyourway #highschool #college #gradschool #scicomm (at Sitka Sound Science Center)

Students learned to measure seabird bills, wings, and legs during Bering Sea Days. Such measuring skills are not only relevant for living on St. Paul Island, where seabird research is active each summer and students participate in Seabird Camp each year, but they also learn more about accuracy and precision in using these instruments continuously. #BSD2017 #alaska #stpaulisland #beringsea #seabirds #stem #stemeducation #learn #grow #discover #teach #measure #feathers #wings #kidscience #excite (at St. Paul, Alaska)

The remainder of our Bering Sea Days presenters say farewell to St. Paul Island. Thank you to everyone who made Bering Sea Days such a huge success this year! We certainly missed those who could not join us, but you were with us in spirit. More pictures to follow in the coming weeks so we can share the amazing story of our week! You are all wonderful, and this event means so much to us, we were so happy to have everyone take part! #BSD2017 #alaska #stpaulisland #beringsea #magicbus #science #forscience #scientists #research #kidscience #stemeducation #farewell #crabs #invertebrate #reindeer #hunter #archaeology #museumofthealeutians #exhibit #bones #artifacts #seaice #foodwebs #ecosystems #salmon #atlatl #storycorps #journalism #seabirds #migratorybirds #invasivespecies #somuchmore #somuchlove #somuchfun (at Saint Paul, Alaska)

Reindeer dig with Mike, Washoe, Josh, Ben and the middle and high school students. Last year, we had buried a reindeer carcass out on the sand dunes, and this year the task was to run an archeological dig to uncover the bones! The search was on yesterday and will continue through the week. The search did not uncover a skeleton yesterday, but we will keep trying, because that's what scientists do!
