Hi! I wanted to ask how much your word count is for each of your novel? Also I’m happy that you got your website! Does that mean you won’t be on here anymore :(

My wordcount fluctuates depending on the story, but I tend to aim for the 25-55k mark for romance novella/novels. But if the story wants to go longer, I’ll hardly stop it!

And thank you! I’m very pleased with how my website turned out.

I probably won’t be on here very much as I found my posts got buried in people’s feeds. I also found it more professional to have a more individual platform.

I will continue to poke my head over here every so often, but the best place to find updates about my writing will be on my website. So, please subscribe there to stay up to date!

I am amused to come up with a story idea that takes place in a gym, a location I have only rarely frequented because, I could be in an aerobics class or I could be in bed. Who do you think is going to win?

Possible Blog Deletion

I have been contemplating for a long time making my own website to host and promote my writing. This new decision by tumblr is making that seem more and more likely.

I do not know if my LGBT erotica will fall under the “ban” category, but I feel like my own space would be ideal. I also feel like a lot of the people I care to share my work with will be leaving tumblr as well.

I originally created a tumblr solely to promote my original works and to connect with my existing readers.

I have many stories in the works and would love to be able to share those tales with you. I’ll keep everyone update as I look to move off tumblr. I hope to be able to see you wherever I may go.

The Month of Editing - Part 1

So, I wrote this 11k story months ago. 

The premise is two colleagues who compete with each other and low-key hate one another get trapped in an elevator together. Gasp! 

I refer to the document as “elevator spat” because I remain unhappy with the numerous titles it has gone through.

It’s an adorable fun thing where the boys realise their hate hides their secret attraction and love. Come on, we all love a good “enemies to lovers” story, right?

But you see, this story is first on my “it needs an edit” list. I have a good number of stories on that list. The editing ranges from a minor look over to a massive overhaul.

This one? It’s getting extended to include more scenes. But I am whining, because what do I decide to do first? Extend the opening and add an additional new scene. 

Opening lines are so rude. 

But I said December would be the month of editing. 

..I’m going to need all the gingerbread and chocolate I can handle to get through this. Well, bring it on, I guess. I’ll also be embroidering and crocheting in the background when words are being mean, because that like, relieves tension, right?

I’ll keep you updated on my editing progress! Who knows, maybe I’ll have a new story before we know it!

NaNoWriMo 2018 - Final Wordcount

Oh whoops. I forgot to validate my novel, but still I well and truly beat NaNo this year!

It was a good year, didn’t quite make 100k, but I’m still really happy with that! Now to work on some editing projects for December. It’s been a good writing year 😀

(Edit: Okay. I just checked and I am laughing at the fact that last year I got 86, 272 words. Practically no difference. 😆)

This is all really sound and wonderful advice! I agree with all of it as well :) Heck! I would have picked some of these points if others hadn’t beaten me!  But, hmm. What to add?

I would have to say, don’t let intimidation of other people’s writing skills/your own self-doubt stop you.

We’ve all been that uncertain writer diving into the craft (or coming back to writing after an absence) and we see more talented, prolific, popular writers out there only to get discouraged.

Writing, like most things, takes practice and dedication. It is also about constant improvement. I can guarantee those talented, prolific, popular writers all have days where they hate their work, can’t write, worry their work is terrible, rip it to pieces with a red pen, and judge themselves against a yardstick where they never measure up.

You’re not alone, and do not let your worry stop you. 

You don’t have to write the next bestseller or win the Nobel Prize for literature to have people love what you pen, or to feel successful about what you’ve written.  Writing is hard and draining, but utterly worth it.

And if you focus on the work and improving it (rather than not measuring up to someone else yet) before you know it, you’ll be a talented, prolific, popular writer all on your own.

Be happy when you write, and in return, the writing will make you happy, and that is what’s important :)

I had this idea, and I want to give it a go. I follow a ton of utterly fantastic and talented writers of all kinds here on Tumblr. I’m going to tag several (certainly not all that I know) and ask you to share one (or more) piece(s) of writing advice that you feel very strongly about and ask that you tag other writers in return. That way we can build up a thread of writing advice.

Learn to write anywhere. Don’t let yourself form up so many habits so that you limit your writing.

NANOWRIMO 2018 - SUCCESSFUL!

YAY! 50k reached! 😁 I actually didn’t think I was tracking very well since I’d had some days where I struggled to get the wordcount, but I checked last year and I’ve actually reached 50k a couple of days earlier! 😊

Let’s see how much higher I can get this month! 🤩

NUMBER STORIES - 7 & 86

So, I felt like doing some writing but didn’t want to start anything new nor work on my pre-existing things. Sooo I used a random number generator to grab to random themes off a list of tropes I’m running through.

The scenarios selected were “Florist AU” (7) & “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On”(86). 

I, um, played fast and loose with the last one. Hope you enjoy!

Evadne had a very low tolerance for bullshit. She also had a low tolerance for people.

It was why she had two cats, a flower shop, and preferred to keep herself to herself.

Yet, people insisted on talking to her.

She had “one of those faces” and it often found people explaining their life story, whether she wanted to hear it or not.

Evadne only had one customer however, that she liked. The woman, Dawn, was a former soldier, honourable discharged due to injury. She had lost her right leg and was proud to show the scarring that came with it.

When other people flinched away from Dawn, Evadne smiled at her.

Dawn didn’t speak much, but she always gave Evadne’s cats a stroke and a chin scratch.

Evadne was fond of her, which was why she smiled when Dawn came in without her prosthetic and using her wheelchair. She got a wave in response.

Dawn was wearing a tank top that showed the scars from her time on the front line and shorts that revealed all the damage to her leg. Evadne had always thought she was beautiful.

A man further inside the shop didn’t think so; he gave a disgusted noise, his lip curling as he looked at Dawn. “You should cover that up.”

Evadne stiffened and anger flooded her, but Dawn turned to face him, smiled viciously and said in her crisp, unflinching, matter of fact tone; “I didn’t survive an IED just to please you, dickwad.”

The man looked shocked. Evadne was still livid.

“If you can’t show respect to a beautiful woman,” Evande snapped, glaring at the man, “then you can get the fuck out of my shop.”

There were two other women in the shop and they were whispering and glaring at him. The man had the decency to look shame-faced. Evande continued to glower at him until he walked around Dawn and left the shop with his head down.

Evande was almost trembling she was so angry. She didn’t notice Dawn rolling her wheelchair closer until she was by the counter.

“That,” Dawn said, “was fucking hot.”

Evadne startled and looked down at the other woman who was smiling brightly, the good-humour reaching all the way to her eyes. “I’d happily see you defend my honour more often, Evadne.”

“You don’t need help,” Evadne answered, clearing her throat and trying not to admit to feeling flustered. “You have things well in hand.”

“Maybe,” Dawn admitted, “but I’m still a sucker for a gorgeous woman running to my aid.”

Evadne’s stomach twisted and her heart thumped hard against her chest. Dawn continued to grin at her, which only made the butterflies in her stomach even worse.

“Could I take my rescuer out to coffee?” She asked.

Evadne didn’t even need to hesitate. Dawn was wonderful, beautiful, and didn’t take bullshit from others. She let Evadne’s cats jump into her lap and both patted and cooed at them.

Dawn was perfect in every way.

“Yes,” Evadne told her, smiling back. “I’d like that.”
