Just a heads up, there are bots going around on AO3 accusing people of using AI. Considering the timing, this is likely AI bros' retaliation for AO3 users calling them out for scraping their work. Examples of what you might be sent:

Writer’s Month Prompt List 2024
Writer’s Month is a daily prompt event in August. Posting for the event starts on August 1st, but we’re posting the prompt list early to give everyone the chance to get a headstart on the writing!
The rules are simple: All content is allowed (including fanfiction, original fiction, poetry, etc). There is no word limit, minimum or maximum. You will have one week to fill each prompt.
And if you manage to complete all 31 prompts and fill out a google form with links to your entries at the end of the month, you will receive a personalized badge as a reward! There will be non-personalized badges for everyone else participating.
As always, we offer alternative prompts; one word prompt and one setting prompt per day. For the badge, you will have to fill one prompt per day, doesn't matter which and you are free to fill both prompts - either as two separate fills or work both into the same fill.

I've recently started work in an UK county archive and I 100% agree that birth/baptismal and death records are excellent resources for character names.
I'm just not very good at writing interesting ones down.
Go to your local archive, folks, we need the footfall!
Hi I was wondering if you know of any good resources to get good vintage names that aren’t typical and boring (Fred, Edward, Alfred etc)?
Some of the names in the Santa letters are certainly peculiar and it made me wonder what kind of names those “vintage baby names” lists are leaving out 😜
Thanks! And happy new year 🎊
One place to get a good general overview of what names were like in a certain era is the Social Security Administration's lists of popular names that go back to the 1880s. The further down the lists you go the less common they get. However these are still all names that had at least a few hundred occurrences, so you're not going to have any Gloyds etc..
I personally always try to find names from primary sources (newspapers, census, vital records, etc.) as you're more likely to come across unusual names that don't make the top 200 lists.
Also keep in mind that name popularity varied greatly by location. Just because there were a bunch of Juanitas in Tulsa in 1930 doesn't mean there were that many in Boston.
Honestly if anyone is working on a specific project and needs names from a certain location/era (i.e. you're writing a novel that takes place in London in 1627) feel free to message me and I'd be happy to work with you to compile a list from primary sources. I love this stuff and will use any valid excuse to spend an evening digging through 17th century baptismal records.

Yes, I know. I am even more late than usual - my sincerest apologies. Life this fall took all the wild turns I didn't particularly sign up for. So without further ado, because we waited long enough, here is the rest of completion badges!

I'm really proud I managed to complete it this year and not just because I didn't manage it last year. Since the prompts came out life dealt me a bit of an eventful hand - Dad had a stroke and was in hospital (he's fine now, we got lucky) and I found a job advert, then applied and interviewed for it, and then got it! Both events took a lots of brainpower so for most of the month I didn't think I would finish. But I did!!!!!!!
Thank you @writersmonth for running this event!

Trying to write an angsty scene whilst my playlist decided to play Rasputin by Boney M is hard enough as it, but as a Whovien I had this in my head the whole time, which makes angsty writing rather impossible:
How was that scene even real?!?!
