Maren Morris / Dear Hate
Dear Hate You were smiling from that Selma bridge In Dallas, when that bullet hit and Jackie cried You pulled those towers from the sky But even on our darkest nights The world keeps spinning 'round
You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass You whisper down through history and echo through these halls But I hate to tell you, love's gonna conquer all
Dear Love Just when I think you've given up You were there in the garden when I ran from your voice I hear you every morning through the chaos and the noise You still whisper down through history and echo through these halls And tell me love's gonna conquer all Gonna conquer all

Questlove, The Roots
Q: What message do you want to share with young people of color?
A: We live in a culture of celebrity and the cult of personality, I mean a reality show participant is our president, because we live in such a celebrity obsessed society… It’s my dream, at least in the times that we live in now, especially now that I have one foot in entertainment, and one foot in the white collar world, I want more people to be more crazy about science and being lawyers and being more about business and education. I know that entertainment seems fun, but first of all I’ll tell them it’s a lot of work… Rather than fund someone’s demo, I’d rather fund someone’s app idea… I’m all about music and that sort of thing on my social media, but a lot of times, when I meet an 11 or 12 year old, I’m trying to tell them, “yo man, create apps,” trying to get prepared for the future. I want them to dream about being a lawyer. Now I want journalists to tell the truth, that sort of thing, that’s what I encourage more. I think that’s a blanket statement that I’d like to share with people. Being a celebrity might “seem” fulfilling, but it’s diminished returns. I’d rather encourage them to do something of substance.

Dave Matthews: Lead Vocalist, Dave Matthews Band
Q: What is the one message or action you hope viewers and attendees take away from today’s concert?
A: If there’s one I’d like people to take away from this, it’s don’t be quiet. Don’t say “I don’t like that but I’m afraid to talk about it.” Speak, because the people that will do you harm, and do harm to the things you love, and do harm to your freedom, they will not be quiet about it. They will be noisy, and they will say they’re right, and they will say it meanly, and you will be afraid. But don’t be too afraid to speak. You can go shaking to the pulpit and say, “I believe in love.”

Artist Spotlight - Bridgit Mendler
From Disney star to avant-garde indie music artist, Bridgit Mendler has undergone quite a transformation over the last several years. Mendler certainly wasn’t the first Disney actress to try to break into the music scene but she’s arguably one of the biggest standouts. The singer’s bold new sound is quite a leap from her previous bubblegum pop releases under Disney’s Hollywood Records, but she’s proven she can hold her own in the newfound territory. Following in the footsteps of her Lemonade Mouth co-star Hayley Kiyoko, Mendler has found her home in the indie pop space. Her new tracks are impressively polished and original, with old school hip-hop vibes, smooth R&B undertones, dreamy synths and funky drum grooves - elements which all pair exceptionally well with the singer’s soulful voice. With each release, it seems Mendler is getting more and more in her element. The future looks bright for the singer, and not just because of her exploding music career; the multi-talented entertainer also has some acting projects in the works. Be sure to catch her in the upcoming Netflix original movie Who Do You Think Would Win? alongside David Spade.
FROM: Mill Valley, CA
GENRE: Indie Pop
YEARS ACTIVE: 6
FUN FACT: In 2016, Mendler graduated from USC with a degree in Anthropology.

The official music video for Bridgit Mendler’s mesmerizing song “Atlantis,” my favorite track of hers. Sidenote: am I the only one that wasn’t aware Atlantis was actually a real place? I learned this a few years ago and my mind was blown.

Tonight's the night! If you have the chance, go vote for Mandy Harvey on America's Got Talent later today. She's truly incredible. I had the opportunity to see her live a few months ago and it was one of the most amazing performances I've ever witnessed. Here’s what I had to say after the show: “Man oh man. I knew it was going to be amazing to see Mandy Harvey live but I was not expecting just how blown away I'd be. I've been to a lot of concerts in my lifetime, but I've never been in such awe from start to finish. Pretty sure my jaw was on the floor for the entire show. As a vocalist, lyricist, performer, and role model, she blows other singers out of the water. She's so dang talented, yet equally humble and kind. Her talent alone is enough to floor you but what's more is she does it all while being deaf. It's hard to fathom how she can write and perform songs she can't actually hear, yet she does it with such precision and grace. Without a doubt, she is one of those few artists who deserves to be on everyone's "Must See Live Before I Die" list. Feel honored to have had that opportunity.”
