The difference in the actual semantics behind the use of the word "hate" for each soukoku generation...
Like Dazai and Chuuya initially "hated" each other the way I "hated" doing group projects in high school. Like you're annoying but whatever let's just complete the assignment.
And Akutagawa and Atsushi literally wanted to kill each other. Straight up had a battle to the death where they screamed at each other about what a loathsome human being the other was. Drew blood, broke bones. Cried in frustration. Relived their trauma.
Idk I just think it's funny to compare the two.

You know, I find it to be truly fun to think about connections of various writers and wonder how those might play out in the story, however then I remember that Asagiri himself isn't particularly interested in doing this, aside from some exceptions. For better or for worse, which is a matter of preference, he truly creates an entirely new story with some references to the real people, despite using their names and alluding to their works. Usually I'm rather cool with that, "Let the man go wild, he's awesome! 🥰", however sometimes I can't help, but feel like it results in some missed opportunities for the story. If you name characters after real people, might as well play with the allusions to them a little more. Here are just some examples of the connections between the real writers, that I am aware of, yet they played no role in the BSD at all:
Akutagawa Ryunosuke was the student of Natsume Soseki and loved his teacher dearly - zero interactions between the two during the story
Q/Yumeno Kyusaku was quite a huge fan of Edogawa Ranpo and Edogawa later became the benefactor of the writer - zero interactions between the two during the story
Tayama Katai and Mori Ogai became acquaintances during the Russo-Japanese war and spent lots of time talking with one another while at it - zero interactions between the two during the story
Edogawa Ranpo was the first person to translate and introduce Lovecraft's writings in Japan - zero interactions between the two during the story
Akutagawa Ryunosuke loved Poe's works and translated them into Japanese - zero interactions between the two during the story
Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville were great friends and Melville adored Hawthorne so much, that it influenced the creation of "Moby-Dick" a lot and from what I have seen many people say he was actually in love (maybe the writer was indeed in love with him, but I am afraid, I'm not qualified enough to talk about this. Feel more than free to add info to the post) - zero interactions between the two during the story
H. P. Lovecraft was quite a fan of Edgar Allan Poe and his works were heavily influenced by him - zero interactions between the two during the story
Nikolai Gogol and Alexander Pushkin were great friends and influenced each other a lot - zero interactions between the two during the story
Fyodor Dostoevsky was one hell of a fanboy of Alexander Pushkin and even had the honor to give an official speech at the anniversary of the latter's death - zero interactions between the two during the story
And etc.
I mean, don't you guys think it would have been interesting to see Mori and Katai interact, given Katai's heavy dislike for the mafia? Hell, Mori might have even been made the main reason behind Katai's strong emotions! And then there's the situation with Akutagawa and Natsume. I find it to be truly surprising that Mori and Fukuzawa were made Natsume's students in the BSD, yet the person who was actually Natsume's student in real life hasn't even talked to him so far. Nathaniel and Melville are actually part of the same organization, yet there's nothing about it, though to be fair, the Guild members suffer from the lack of screentime in general. But just imagine if there was a tragic love story between the two instead of the one we got with Margaret arffufgbh. However, like I said in the beginning, it's a matter of preference. The story still works on its own and Asagiri still gives us from time to time such interesting references so in general I am very content and happy X3 I'm just saying here my thoughts on how fun it would have been, if he had gone even further

What are some characters you'll like to see interact more that hasn't done so much in the series?
Oooo ok this is tricky and the second I post this I'll probably think of more!
I listed a few duos I'd like to see explored more a while back! I'm a bit lazy to go back and link to it now but I remember wanting to see more Dazai and Kyouka, Fukuzawa with young Yosano after she'd just been brought to the Agency, Aya and Akutagawa, and my favourite joke duo, Odasaku and Adam. Here's a few others I thought of:
Gin and Ryuunosuke: Please let them interact in canon. Please. They are literally siblings.
Margaret and literally anyone: Please. She has such an interesting set up. Where are we going with her? Can we elaborate on her situation? Her story? I just want her to interact with characters beside Nathaniel. I'd love to see her encounter Akutagawa again actually... could be really interesting.
Wells and literally anyone: Bring her back... I miss her... :'(
Mushitarou and Ango: ...me and the three other mushiango shippers crying for more of them... (but really I just think they're an interesting duo. *slaps both of them* these two can fit so much grief and regret)
Aya and Jouno: I'd like them to meet up again. I just think they could have a neat dynamic, with Jouno having faith in her without needing to know of her capabilities, simply because he knows she (and any civilian) would be underestimated. Also, both with the whole "justice as a choice" thing. Idk. Something there.
Chuuya and Atsushi: PLEASE. I need to see it so bad. Why have they not directly interacted yet? It seems intentional to me.
Naomi and Dazai: We get hints that Dazai actually teaches Naomi tricks and strategy advice. I'd like to actually see it!
Mori and Fukuchi: They were both at Tokoyami Island during the war! They may have actually met before this!!! I hope we elaborate on this soon. ...also I want both Fukuzawa's exes to meet and for there to be drama because it's funny to me. Bonus points if Mori shows up while Fukuzawa is still bleeding out on the ground. Old man yaoi showdown... (I am kidding :P)
Teruko and Natsume: These two authors had a real connection! Teruko was a student of his. I'd love if they pulled that into the series somehow!
Natsume and Agatha: OKAY, so this is based off irl Natsume's real exchange to Britain he went on. He hated it there lol. That's why I'm hoping for interactions between these two… and I hope they cannot stand each other. Maybe something happened between Natsume and the Order of the Clock Tower and they parted on bad terms. They meet again and the two are just all smiles as Agatha pours tea and Natsume rests his hands on his cane and they think of how much they wish they could laser beam the other to death. Idk. I like the concept tbh.
And these are just silly and self-indulgent:
Sigma and Tsujimura: if Sigma turns out to actually be Ian Fleming, I demand they meet and have a Bond-esque secret agent adventure.
Katai, Kunikida, and Higuchi: my dream crack trio that definitely makes no sense but I can't get it out of my head. I can't explain it ok I just think it's funny if Katai, after the Gin debacle, ends up with two overworked blond friends who check in to make sure that he is still alive under his futon. I need to emphasize though that Higuchi is far from her usual polite or professional and is just so done with Katai all the time. Katai still can't manage to make proper eye contact with her or have a full conversation. Nobody understands how they are keeping in touch or why. Also important you know that Kunikida and Higuchi have this weird frenemies dynamic where they are rightfully suspicious of each other for being on opposite sides but then feel like. A sharp pang of sympathy in their chests every time they hear about the crap the other has to deal with. They both shit-talk Dazai and can rant for hours. Katai is left standing there like 😥. It's basically just the "two teenaged boys" post, where Kunikida is the (comparatively) gentle "oh did you just wake up", Higuchi is the "OPEN UP FUCKNUGGET" and Katai is the guy who answers the door past noon still in his blanket. I know it makes no sense. Let me have this.

Things I have learned from the Untold Origins Arc (anime version)
The ADA is so very literally the founding of a family
Seriously, Asagiri, don't be shy. Give us more on the special abilities lore. What was it with that play and the angel symbolism and also the mystery abilities are surrounded with in the decade before the whole Dark Era thing?
Odasaku really should have lived till at least the DoA arc cause my man predicted like half of its themes and plot at age 15. And I thought he could only see a few seconds into the future?
What it means to punch someone's face in because that's exactly what Fukuzawa did to that nameless soldier
Cows: Ranpo 🤝 Kenji
How old is Fyodor Dostoyevsky?!?!
Natsume Soseki is absolutely a combination of Mori and Fukuzawa in that he's a mysterious, competent loner-type mentor figure but that he's also kind of a creepy middle aged dude lurking in the shadows and watching everyone
ANYWAY. Congrats Fukuzawa. You are now a dad.

The ADA dorms pt 4
Natsume: *sitting dramatically on a rooftop* Ah it is so wonderful to see that my three party framework has become successful. The alliance between the Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency will usher a new era of pea.. ... what the fuck
Chuuya: *leaving Dazai's room through the window and flying off* Akutagawa: *leaves Atsushi's room using Rashomon to slink into an alleyway* Mori: *walks quickly out of Fukuzawas room with a black trench coat and a big hat* Kouyou: *Kisses Yosano at her door and strolls calmly to the street and into a car*
Natsume: I cant deal with this shit

ALRIGHT SO
Tumblr media
first of all; ATSUSHI IN AKU'S COAT
second of all; THE FLOWER
i've seen a few comments abt which flower it may be, often mentioning dahlias and chrysanthemums, (comments i agree with bc of the similarities) so let's look at meanings before jumping to conclusions:
on one hand, chrysanthemums generally symbolize longevity, fidelity, joy and optimism, in Japan, they are also known to represent rejuvenation and nobility. White chrysanthemums symbolize loyalty and honesty.
now a picture of a white chrysanthemum as comparison:
Tumblr media
on the other hand, dahlias symbolize beauty, commitment, and kindness. They're also tied to steadfastness, due to their ability to bloom after many other flowers have died.
dahlias themselves represent inner strengh, positive change, and standing out from the crowd. White dahlias, as with other white flowers, represent purity, innocence and rebirth.
during the Victorian era, dahlias were a symbol of commitment and an everlasting union. They are also used to represent inner strength, creativity, and elegance.
picture over here:
Tumblr media
personally, i think the flower little atsushi is holding is a dahlia; not only based on appearance (since chrysanthemums' petals don't match that much), but based on the meanings.
now, I'm not saying that the meaning of a chrysanthemum isn't accurate (bc it is, in some ways), but bc of the meaning it could hold for both atsushi AND akutagawa.
i mean,,, "ability to bloom after many other flowers have died"?? "positive change"?? "kindness"?? "standing out from the crowd"?? "REBIRTH"?? "ELEGANCE"???? + the whole Victorian era thing????
another reason i believe we're talking abt a dahlia here is the fact that atsushi has akutagawa's coat (sskk aside) and it would make sense for the flower to, in some way or another, represent them both given everything that happened.
anyway, that would be the end of my little rant ಥ‿ಥ

Been 22 days but it's still insane that Akutagawa took “knight in shiny armor coming to the rescue” to a literal level
