CHRISTMAS MIRACLES

Tumblr media Tumblr media
The town of hawkins was known by many to be cursed, or haunted. People believed that something evil lied beneath the layer of dirt that they walked a foot on everyday during their daily routine.
But during the month of December, everyone somehow seemed to ignore and forget their fears of this town. Christmas spirit seemed to spread everywhere, distracting everyone from the true events that go on in the upside down.
Including you.
Which is why right now, you were pulling into the parking lot of the family video plaza, on you way to get a Christmas film of your pick to watch before you go to see all the beautiful lights hung up around hawkins. One of your favourite parts of this time of year.
As soon as you opened the door of your car, you felt the strong winter breeze slap you in the face. You climbed out and closed the door behind you, walking to the family video store as snow flakes dropped in your hair and melted on your skin.
You stomped your feet a little on the mat to remove any excess snow before opening the door and entering the store, making the bell at the front door make a ding as it swings.
You were hoping your friend Robin would greet you this evening, but instead, a very disliked Steve Harrington walked out from behind the back, and gave a not so friendly eye role as he spotted you walking in.
He let out a slightly dramatic sigh. “Robin… your menace is back.” Steve complained, throwing his head back in defeat. You gave a light eye roll, trying to ignore him just before your lovely friend came rushing out of the back with a bright smile placed on her face.
She stands in the doorframe for a moment. “We got it.” She says happily like the energetic person she is, and you took notice to the fact that she had her hands hidden behind her back.
You raised an eyebrow. “Care to elaborate Robin?” You question as you take a step towards her, but Steve but a hand in front of you before you had the chance to take another step. “Nope. Nice try. No customers behind the counter.” He crosses his arms, blocking you from getting past.
You role you eyes once again. “Your such a dick… you know that right?” You question, pushing past him anyways, and walking right over to Robin. Steve stands there unimpressed. “Takes one to know one.” He mumbles annoyed, and walks away, trying to make himself look busy by organizing a random aisle of movies.
You ignore his comment and look up at your friend who’s still smiling. “Come on dude… just spit it out.” You tell Robin, wanting to know what she’s hiding behind her back.
She quickly takes her hands out from behind her back, revealing a movie box, which happened to be Mickeys Christmas Carol, making your eyes light up at the sight. Your hands reached out and grabbed the box from your friends as you stare at it happily, scanning the cover of the box. You were a sucker for Disney films. This one came out last year around Christmas, but it was so popular that you couldn’t find a copy anywhere.
You look up at robins who’s still smiling. “Merry Christmas!” She says. You smile in return, and giggle as you move in to hug her, throwing your arms around her. “I love you sososo much thank you thank you thank you!” You say as excitement takes over your body.
Steve moves closer and leans against the wall behind you guys, and takes notice of the movie your looking at, letting out a chuckle. “Jesus. Seriously? What are you, 5?” He comments as he makes fun of you for your choice of Christmas movie.
You turn and look at him over your shoulder. “Has anyone ever told you that you suck at your job harrington?” You shoot back.
Robin raises her hand in the air in return to your question. “I have. Many times actually.” She jokes, making Steve glare at his best friend.
You shake your head before looking back at Robin, and smiling. “This is amazing. Thank you.” You look down at the movie in your hands and smile. “I should head out before the roads get bad, I still wanna go check out Christmas lights.” You say joyfully, and walk out from behind the counter, giving Steve a glare as you do so.
Robin looks at the time on the clock above her. “Maybe you should just head home? We wouldn’t want you dying in a car crash the night before Christmas.” She comments, being her usual honest self.
“Jesus robin, don’t say stuff like that.” Steve says back, and you squint your eyes at him.
“Like that isn’t already on your Christmas list.” You say back with attitude, before turning around towards the door. “Merry Christmas Robin.” You cal out without turning around.
She watches as you push the door open. “Drive safe! Watch out for ice! Don’t get distracted by Christmas music!” She yells out, just before the door closes behind you.
Robin looks over at Steve and just stares at him, staring at you as he watches you get into your car. It takes him a second to notice, but he finally looks back at robin once you pull out of the parking lot, and he sees he’s being stared at.
“What?” He asks defensively, making robin give an eye roll and a shake of her head before walking away to the back of the store, leaving Steve alone. He couldn’t help but let his eyes wander back out the window. He caught a quick glimpse of your car driving down the street, just before you turned the corner, and he lost sight of you.
He looked at the clock, seeing he only has 47 minutes left of his shift.
Tumblr media
“Run, run Rudolph, Rudolph ain’t too far behind.” You sing along to the radio in a good mood, drumming the beat on your steering wheel as you drive.
“Run run Rudolph, Santa’s—“
You trailed off quieter and quieter as you drove up the hill, but noticed you were moving slower, and slower the higher up you got, giving you a not so good feeling. “No no no…” You mumble under your breath, giving a good hard press to the gas peddle, but it did nothing. Your car was stalling. Nothing was happening, until you noticed your car starting to go backwards. “Fuck…” you curse under your breath.
“Santa, make him hurry, tell him he can take the freeway down.” The radio sang as your car drove backwards down the hill slowly. You tried to restick your key in the ignition to start it again. “Come on you piece of shit! Drive!” You yell in frustration as you aggressively turn the key, and give a smack to your steering wheel.
“Run, run Rudolph 'cause I'm reelin' like a merry-go-round.” The song ends as your car comes to a full stop as you reach the bottom of the hill where you once were a minute ago. You angrily hit your steering wheel again and let out a groan. “Stupid fucking Volkswagen!” You yell as you have a mini melt down in your car.
Once you calm down from your fist fight with your steering wheel, you take a look out the window and realize you’re not super close to the lights. Or to home. Or to anywhere you would want to walk to in this snow storm. You look over at the movie that sat in your passenger seat, and you felt tears swell in your eyes. This isn’t what you wanted your Christmas Eve to be. And you didn’t know what to do.
Tumblr media
Steve squinted his eyes as he drove through the mini blizzard on his way home from work. He wasn’t exactly excited to go home. He had no plans for Christmas Eve. His parents didn’t care enough to spend it with him.
Which is why right now, he was on his way to the light show at the end of town. Where he knew you would be. Why did he feel the need to go? He had no idea. Steve didn’t even like you. But for some reason… he also did. He was interested in everything you did yet tried to play it off like he didn’t notice you or like you. But he did. He liked your presence. He liked being able to make fun of you over useless stuff.
All these thoughts about you made Steve think he was imagining things when he saw a car that looked exactly like yours stopped in the middle of the lane. He didn’t bother honking since he could clearly see the car was off, so instead he drove around it, but pressed on the breaks when he saw you through the car window, and realized it was indeed your car.
Steve leaned forward and rolled down the passenger window of his car. “Hey!” He yelled loud enough for you to hear. Your head shot up at the sound of a voice. You were so busy crying that you didn’t even hear his car or see the headlights, but you were quickly disappointed when you realized the car contained Steve Harrington. You looked down as you rolled your window down, and looked up at Steve with a tear stained face. “Come all the way out here to make fun of me for this?” You say with attitude.
Steve deserved that. He knew he did. He stayed quiet for a minute. “Car troubles?” He finally says, not thinking before he spoke as usual. You let out an unamused laugh, staring down at your lap. “No, I just happen to like sitting alone in my car in the middle of a snow storm on Christmas Eve instead of looking at pretty lights… and watching happy movies with hot chocolate and cookies.” At first you say it sarcastic, but then you got sadder as you spoke and started crying near the end of your sentence.
Shit. Steve thought.
He looked around for a second as he tried to think. He looked back out the window at you for a second before letting his thoughts take over.
“Get in.” He tells you, making you look up with your sad face. You shake your head in disagreement. “I don’t want your pitty.” You tell him flatly as you sniffle a little.
He tilts his head. “Yeah well I don’t want robins wrath when she finds out I let you freeze out here, so get in my car. We can come get yours in the morning when the storms over.” He tells you, making you sit there and think about his offer for a second. You look at him and take a deep breath before reaching over and grabbing your keys, bag, and you’re movie out of the car before hopping out, locking your door, and hopping into Steves car.
He finally gets a closer look at you, and sees how much you’ve really been crying. You can instantly feel the eyes on you, and you look down ashamed. “Thank you.” You say softly, hoping to get him to stop staring. He gives a nod and looks at you for another second, before turning back to the road. He looks at you again. “Seatbelt.” He says before putting his car in drive as he watched you click the seatbelt on. You watched your car disappear in the distance as you look in the rear view mirror as Steve drives up the hill. You feel a little jealous seeing how easy his car can accomplish this compared to yours that broke down.
Steve turns up the radio a little as nothings gonna stop us now by starship plays, trying to avoid the silence that lingers in the car. He looks over at you as you stare out the window, and he clears his throat. “So…” he pauses and you turn your head to listen to him. “How long you been sitting in that piece of junk for?” He questions you, curious to how long you’d actually been sitting in the middle of the road for. You give a little shrug. “Not long. Maybe over 30 minutes.” You answer pretty honestly, and Steve let’s out a chuckle at this response. “And what, you were just gonna sit there all night instead of calling for help?” He asks without taking his eyes off the road, and also noticing the snow is calming down a little. You rolled your eyes. “No Steve, cause I’m not an idiot.” You say with attitude. You pause for a second. “Hopper said he was gonna come by at 10 after work.” You change your tone this time, informing him that you did indeed have somewhat of a plan.
He nods his head in understanding, tapping his fingers on the wheel. “Cool… cool.” He mentally slaps himself with that reply. He’s never had this much 1 on 1 time with you before. He was nervous.
His response made you giggle a little. He cracks a smile at the sound he’s hearing, and looks over at you quick. “Hold on, did you just smile and laugh at something I said?” He smiled, looking back at the road. Now you look at him, looking at the side of his face. “Yeah, that’s what happens when you’re not such a jackass.” You joke, and now he’s cracking another smile.
A few minutes of silence go by. Not awkward silence, but a comfortable silence as the radio plays, and you drive in a much calmer weather now. As you continue to drive, you realize Steve misses the turn that you’d usually take to get to your house. You wait a minute to see if maybe he’s taking a different way, but after a few minutes, he keeps driving. “Hey I live just back there.” You remind him, assuming he already knew where you lived cause he’s picked up and dropped of robin before. But maybe he forgot?
Except he didn’t forget. Steve nodded his head at you statement, knowing exactly where your house was. “Yeah… but your plan was to go see lights or what ever, am I wrong?” He questions you, knowing you fully sat in your car and cried about it.
“Well yeah, but.” You pause for a quick second, and your eyes light up once you turn the corner, and you see all the beautiful lights hung around the park and on near by buildings. You stare in awe out the window, and Steve pulls into the parking lot. You quickly notice this, and turn your body to face him. “Steve I can’t. I dont have my car to drive home now and it’s like 5 feet of snow to walk through on the way home. I think it’s just a…. wait… what are you doing?” You trail off and question as you see him unclipping his seat belt, and grabbing his winter jacket from in the back seat of his car. He pulls it from beneath the random shit in his car, and looks at you with a smile. “I’m gonna freeze if I walk around in this.” He gestures to the sweater he’s wearing, and smiles while reaching for his door. “Come on.” He climbs out of the car, pulling on his jacket.
You follow his lead and get out of the car. “Steve, you don’t have to do this. Really, I’d be fine with being dropped at home.” You tell him as you protest this nice gesture he’s doing for you. He finishes zipping up his jacket, and shuts his car door, looking at you with a smile. “Well we’re already here, aren’t we?” He tells you. You take a second and look at the beautiful scenery around you, and you realize this was you goal all along, and that your finally here. You smile a little and look at him from the other side of the car. “You’re right.” You smile brighter, and start to skip off. He chuckles a little, not used to seeing you this happy. He’s usually receiving your attitude, but this is a nice change.
You walk further into the park that’s full of people. Full of family’s with their children, friends laughing with each other, people with their cameras taking photos of the beautiful lights, and couples holding hands as they stroll around. You smile happily. “Christmas magic is contagious at this place.” You comment randomly, causing Steve to look over at you.
He raises his eyebrows at your comment. “Christmas magic huh?” He repeats your phrase, and you nod in agreement. “Look at everyone around us. They’re all jacked on Christmas spirit. Seeing everyone happy this time of year makes me happy.” You answer. Steve smiles at your explanation. “Wow. Didn’t take you for a Christmas junkie.” He jokes, and your head turns to him.
“What? You’re not?” You joke back. Steve laughs a little, but thinks about his version of Christmas, and shakes his head. “There’s never much Christmas magic for me. I usually spend the holidays alone while my folks go to some fancy resort on the coast.”
His answer makes you feel a little sad. Christmas had always been a big thing for you, and it made you sad to think Steve has never had that same experience. You try not to think too much into it, and you crack a smile. “Well good thing you found me.” You smile up at him. He chuckles a little. “Oh yeah, everyone needs a hitch hiker to find on the side of the road to spend there Christmas eve with.” He jokes, but not in the mean way your used to. This time it’s… funny. It’s friendly.
It’s nice.
As you continue to walk through the park, you see bright colours of lights everywhere, some in cool shapes of gingerbread men, and candy canes, and reindeers. Your mood uplifted with every cool thing you saw, and at some point you started to forget about your broken down car in the middle of the road, and all the stress of tonight was gone. As you talked with Steve more, you realized he wasn’t just the boring asshole you thought he was. He was a real person with real interests, and it made you happy that he was here to share this with you. Especially since he doesn’t usually do much for Christmas.
Several feet ahead, you saw a big Christmas tree decorated from head to toe in ornaments, lights, streamers and ribbons, and a big shiny star sitting at the very top.
You both stood in front of the tree, staring up at it. Your eyes and smile big as you stare in awe. “Have I mentioned that I love Christmas?” You say without taking your eyes away from the tree, making Steve chuckle. “Only a few times.” He jokes back, and you look up at him with a smile.
In the corner of your eye, you notice a small women with a camera around her neck approaching you. She gives you a smile, and Steve turns around to see what you’re looking at, taking notice to the women. “A beautiful couple like you should have a Christmas photo for memory.” She says sweetly as she points to the two of you.
Steve looks back and forth between you and the older women. “Us? No no… we just, we’re not actually-“
“Yeah sure, why not.” You cut Steve off before he got the chance to say anything else, and your response caught him off guard.
However, the women was thrilled with your answer, and grabbed her camera. “Alright, a little more to the left.” She said as she closed one eye and looked into the camera, seeing you were both centered with the Christmas tree, but still a small gap between you.
“Closer.” She instructed, cause you each to move a smidge. She was unsatisfied with this. “Even more closer.” She gestured with her hands, and smiled once the two of you were now so close you were touching, and you even sneaked an arm behind Steve’s back. “That’s better!” The women said happily. Steve tensed up a little, not knowing what to do, but took your move as a sign to put his arm around your shoulder, so he did. “Alright, big smiles!” The women says, making you both put on your camera ready smiles. The camera flashes in your face for a quick second as she takes the photo, and a Polaroid comes out of the top.
You and Steve pull away from each other, but still stand close. The women looks back to the two of you, and smirks a little. “Looks like Santa left a present!” She points up above your heads. You turn your gaze upwards to see a mistletoe hanging from a tree branch above. Steve is the next to look above your heads. “Huh.” He says questioning. “I feel like this lady set us up.” You smirk at his comment as you both finally look at eachother and smile. But Steve thinks about it. “What now?” He asks you, hoping you know what to do next.
You turn your head and look over to the nice lady who patiently and happily waiting to take your picture. It’s that moment when you quickly make a decision, turning to Steve. “Just trust me okay.” You say quietly. Steve’s confused by your comment until he sees you slowly raising your hands, and placing them on the back of his neck. He can’t even focus on the feeling of your cold fingers, cause he’s so focused on watching you lean in closer. His eyes widened as he realizes this is really about to happen… then it happens. Your lips are pressed together as you share a sweet kiss. He finally closes his eyes and relaxes, moving his hands to you back to support you better as you stand on your tip toes. But just as quickly as it all happened, you were quickly snapped back into reality by the sound of the camera clicking. When you pull away, you look at each other and share a look. A look that you never thought you’d share with Steve Harrington.
At some point the eye contact makes you feel a little flustered, so you break it. You look over at the women who’s pulling the Polaroid out of her camera. You give Steve one last look, and then he watches you skip off to the lady. He sees your face light up once you see the photos, and he smiles at the thought of the fact that it makes you happy. He watches as you give the photographer a $5 bill as a thank you, and wishing her a merry Christmas before running back to Steve.
You walk over and show him each of the photos as you also look at them yourself. “I think they turned out really good actually.” You smile. “Which one do you want?” You wait for Steve’s response, but when it doesn’t come, you look up at him and seen that he’s just staring at you, causing you to furrow up your eyebrows in confusion. “What?” You question.
He lets out a breathy laugh, and looks over, pointing at the photographer as he finds the right words. “What was that?” He laughs again, looking at you it’s a smile. You could tell he clearly wasn’t mad about the kiss, just confused.
You tried to come up with any sort of dumb excuse as you stare into his eyes. “Well… I could tell taking peoples photos make her happy. I didn’t wanna say no.” You tell him as you each still hold eye contact. Steve takes one small step forward, his gaze dropping down to your lips for a quick second just before coming back to your eyes. “Is that the only reason?” He asks, the sound of his voice suddenly forming butterfly’s in your stomach. You just slightly shake your head, not being able to move. “I don’t know” you say, and it almost comes out as a whisper, one that Steve can only hear due to how close he is to you. Steve smirks at your answer, moving even closer now until you’re pretty much touching. “Oh I think I know.” He smirks, and slowly pulls his hand up to place on your cheek, and pulls you in for a deep kiss. You put your hands on his chest as you melt into his touch, and he takes it as a sign to put his second hand on your other cheek, making you smile into the kiss.
You pull away after a few seconds and look at each other again. “You know, all of a sudden I think Christmas is awesome.” Steve comments, making you throw your head back as you let out a laugh. He swing his arms around your waste, and you threw yours and his neck as you look back into his eyes. “I really am a fan of this new thing we got here. What’s your new years look like? You free at midnight?” He asks with a cheesy smirk, making you roll your eyes. “Shut up Harrington.” You comment before pulling him back in for a kiss to shut him up yourself, leaning into his arms and smiling as you do so.
The photographer turned around after taking photos for a lovely family of 5, and once again saw you two kissing under the mistletoe, smiling to herself before getting another photo of this beautiful Christmas moment. When the photo came out of the camera, she grabbed it, and looked back at the two of you. “Hm. Young love… so sweet.” She says to herself before moving on with her night… but little does she know what a real Christmas miracle she just witnessed.
