My husband was feeling a little under the weather after coming home from a work trip so I made a #nourishing #soup to help him feel better! Ingredients: Garlic and rosemary sautéed in lard (or butter!). Add chicken stock, sea salt, oregano, paprika. Poach eggs (however many you want!) and either put in individual bowls and pour soup over or I just tossed the eggs in and cut them up. Served well with bread and lots of butter! #wapf #fatisgood #nourishingfood

Weston A Price Foundation

This guy was a dentist in the early twentieth century who became famous for warning about the dangers of diet changes happening at the time. Young people were less sturdy than they had been, and crooked teeth in kids was becoming more common. He traveled around the world to record the phenomenon, which was being caused by the introduction of cheap processed foods, especially sugar, white flour and vegetable oils. Promotion of these was displacing traditional diets and he documented the results as they happened.

The Weston A Price Foundation www.westonaprice.org
Traditional peoples highly valued ANIMAL FATS, MEAT, EGGS, POULTRY, SEAFOOD, BROTHS and ORGAN MEATS as necessary for raising strong children. They could see the results as colonialism and marginalization forced them to adopt inferior diets. Dr. Price proved that Vitamins A, D and K2 (the Price Factor) from animal foods are necessary for healthy growth, lifelong health and strong immune systems. He found NO traditional culture which practiced a Vegan diet.
Important books on Nutrition and Traditional diets: Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Price; Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon and Mary G Enig Phd, You Eat What You Are by Thelma Barer-Stein Phd, Good Calories, Bad Calories, by Gary Taubes, and The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz.

Herbal tea basics -
Herbal teas can help with a wide range of health issues, depending on the type of tea and the specific properties of the herbs used.
Here are a few examples:
Digestive issues: Ginger, peppermint, and chamomile tea can help soothe an upset stomach, relieve bloating, and aid digestion.
Anxiety & stress: Chamomile, lavender, and lemon balm tea are known for their calming and relaxing properties, and can help reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.
Insomnia: Valerian root, passionflower, and chamomile tea can help promote relaxation and improve sleep quality, making them useful for treating insomnia.
Cold & flu symptoms: Echinacea, elderflower, and ginger tea can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and relieve symptoms of colds and flu.
Menstrual cramps: Ginger and chamomile tea can help relieve menstrual cramps and other symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
Headaches: Peppermint and ginger tea can help relieve headaches and migraines, thanks to their anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
It's important to note that while herbal teas can be helpful for many health issues, they are not a substitute for proper medical care.
If you have a serious health condition or are taking medication, it's always best to talk to your healthcare provider before using herbal teas or other natural remedies.

(This post uses Stock to describe Bone Broth and Broth for less concentrated cooking extracts)
Homemade stock, unlike broth, is thicker and more flavorful. Made from bones, it offers a nutritional punch (calcium, magnesium, potassium, collagen, amino acids, and more) without the high salt and trans-fatty acids from store-bought alternatives.
Pro tip: Make it ahead of time and freeze for a healthier stock or broth replacement. Try to make ramen with homemade stock and prepare to be amazed 🤤

Fuck it. I’m gonna teach every one of you how to make a kickass bone broth, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Buckle up losers it’s time to cook.
Step One: do you cook at home? Save the scraps. Even if you don’t cook, you’d be surprised by what counts. The ends of carrots. Onion skins. Garlic peels. The gross parts of celery. Animal bones (chicken wings and thighs, usually). Every time you cook, you’re going to put the scraps into a gallon freezer bag.
Step One B: if you don’t cook, you can buy all of these things. I’d recommend half a stalk of celery, some carrots, and two yellow onions to start with. Don’t bother making it look pretty, include all the skins and gross bits. We’re making stock, not soup.
Step Two: when the bag is full, buy a rotisserie chicken. This part may be superfluous if you’ve saved up enough bones, but bones are your flavor so it never hurts to have more if you’re unsure.
Step Three: peel the chicken. Separate the meat from the bones and set it aside. You can do whatever you want with this meat, but I recommend saving it for the soup you’re gonna make with this kickass stock.
Step Four: add the contents of the scrap bag to the largest pot you own. Add the bones. Add water until everything is just covered or until the pot is completely full. If you want to add whole spices like peppercorns and bay leaves, nows a good time, but it’s not required.
Step Five: put that shit on the stove on low heat. Leave it there until around half the water has evaporated. This will probably take a couple of hours, at least three or four. No need to stir.
Step Six: using a collider (pasta strainer), separate the solids from the liquids. That’s it. Enjoy your delicious and flavorful and nutrient-dense stock, idiot.
Obviously you can use that stock to make soup, but you could also use it to cook vegetables, pasta, or rice. Or you could drink it plain. You could freeze it in an ice cube tray and use it as dog treats.
If you choose to save it in the fridge, you’ll probably notice that it doesn’t stay as a liquid, instead having the texture and consistency of a soft jello or pudding. Don’t panic! It’s just the collagen from the bones aka gelatin. This means you did everything right and let it sit on the stove long enough. Your bone broth is filled with lots of nutrients!

Hi, I'm Laurie, a retired Holistic Practitioner and recovering Vegan. I'm betting there are a few others here who tried the virtuous Veggie way of life and ended beating a hasty retreat. We are not herbivores, folks, we're OMNIVORES and that's a whole different niche of the Ecosystem!! Anguishing over the taking of blood-bearing life is not a New Age thing. Our ancestors took the taking of life of their animal brothers and sisters lives very seriously. Animals were treated with respect, whether hunted or herded, and their killing was a sacred act hedged by taboos. Time for us to grow up and take responsibility for our niche as TOP PREDATOR on the planet. Kill we must -- as ALL life kills. We are not being crazed maniacs when we need a hamburger, we are enacting our place in the Chain of Life. Bearing our claws soberly we may better be able to be responsible custodians of the Planet we have over-run and nearly destroyed.
Illustration: Make your squash soup with a base of healthy Bone Broth and it will be both more nourishing and more satisfying.

Happy Saturday! If you’re ever looking for an easy nutrient-dense breakfast to whip up for the kiddos, here is a great recipe: butter up your pan, place a piece of bacon around the edge of the cup, crack an egg into the middle. Add spices! I usually top the egg with some parsley, salt & pepper, and Parmesan. Put in the oven on 375 for 15 minutes or so and wha laa!! #wapf #breakfast #nutrientdense #baconandeggs
