I have this one online friend, and they are also like me, a fan of TCF who dropped the novel because of the angsty backstory and all. The thing is, they hate OgCale, but not in a way that makes them want him to disappear, but in a way that makes them feel guilty and miserable. What confused me is they said they also love him and I was like, "Is this what they call love-hate relationship that is one sided?" They read fanfics and even wrote some but never published them; it all centers around OgCale.

This led me to ask them, “How can you hate OgCale and love him simultaneously?” They said, “He’s unpleasantly pitiful, he’s like me in some way, I failed to protect my family and distanced myself from my friends to keep them away from my mess.” And you know what also hurts? They said, “He was given a chance to redo it but I wasn’t, I would have given my life for one more chance to see them but that will never happen because it is not possible, he lives in a reality that I want even if it seems lonely but that’s fine because that’s how I grew up.”

Ouch, the fact that a lot of people went through something like this...

Then I asked them, “What about OgKrs?” They didn’t reply, which definitely made me realize that I was crossing a line. Thankfully, later on, they replied with a very short, “I envy him.” Just like that, they ghosted me… jk. I did not ask any further because it was personal (too late but better late than never, right?).

This occurrence made me think that although these two are mere characters, they are like a reflection of people’s wishes. OgCale, for getting the chance to bring back his loved ones and to know they are happy even if he is not with them, even if he had to fade into the background as long as he can bring back the past he lost. OgKrs, for having the strength to protect his family even if he has to destroy himself a thousand times as long as he doesn’t make the same mistake.

It hurts to stay in a reality where everything seems to go against you but don't shy away, fight them like these two did (even though OgCale reversed his), because it won't stop hunting you down until you hunt it down. No more excuses, (I'm saying this to myself :P).

Musicals are time loops. Every night, the same thing happens except for a few minor differences. It always ends the same. If you want the characters to do something different or to make better choices, too bad. The actors are bound by the script and the score. The only way for the time loop to end is for the show to close. But you (the audience) don't want the show to close, nor do the actors who would like to be employed. It's a lose/lose situation. For the actors, audience, technicians, and for the characters, who are forever stuck in the same stretch of time.

You should write the most niche, indulgent fiction that appeals to you specifically, because it will be much more artistically authentic and valuable than corporate slop that has been focus tested to death to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Write for yourself and you will always be making authentic art that has an uncompromised vision, and you will gain an audience that appreciates that.
