"when words fail music speaks"

There is one thing I love about music, and that is that it can fill you with emotion and take you to places that words fail to take you. I Giorni, composed by Ludovico Einaudi, never fails to do this, you can get whatever you want from it. Maybe its peaceful, a sad feeling or a feeling of loneliness? What ever it makes you feel this song is full of episodes of calmness, emptiness and episodes of more rushed , flowing notes weaving together to still create this beautiful picture. When I listen to this composition I feel like I have been taken into a world where just I exist, a world full of peace. A place where there is nothing to worry about, a place where there is no traffic, no chatter off the busy streets. All there is, is the wind whistling through the air and rustling the leaves beneath my feet. Looking up at the empty blue sky I get an overwhelming feeling of peace and harmony.

The phrase "I Giorni" is Italian for "day" . I feel that this song is representing the phases of someone's daily life, sometimes cold, empty and alone, sometimes busy or rushed, sometimes just swaying along nicely yet somehow in the end its always in control. Or maybe the "day" represents a life, looking back at a persons life. After all Ludovico Einaudi was inspired to write this piece of music from a 12th century folk song from Mali about a hippopotamus who was cherished by the residents of a nearby village where the hippo rested, but one day was tragically killed by a hunter. I feel that the hippopotamus represents a loved one, and the piece is a piece dedicated to lost loved ones, who now "rest in peace". 

Ludovico Einaudi wrote "The song is sung as a lament for the death of a king or a great person or for the loss of a loved one"

This almost gives the piece a heart bringing out the true feelings of loneliness and loss. Over all I feel this beautiful, synonymous composition can touch many, right to the core, as they fall deeper into the waves of the music.

We all sometimes get that feeling of emptiness, weakness and vulnerability. For me this is the best time to write music as it all just flows out like turning on a tap, or water gushing over the rocks of a thundering waterfall. Perso is the Italian for lost, my composition has this name as I feel that sometimes we can get lost in our own world of troubles and emotions and sometimes forget the bigger picture, that big picture of selflessness that can often put the pieces back together, the pieces of the road that lead us back to who we are and where we stand.
