This excuse is nearly as common as the excuse that one doesn't have time. Make meditation a part of your routine, like showering or brushing your teeth. . Once you create a little time for meditation (see my previous post about it), you still have to get past mistaken assumptions and unrealistic expectations about the practice, self-judgment and a tendency to quit. . Try to meditate for 10 minutes for a week then 20 minutes the week after and even more if you wish so. As long as you meditate regularly, the duration of the meditation is not that important. . This quote by Buddha says it all... Meditation is the most important tool in achieving happiness or at least peace of mind, which is one of the main ingredients of happiness. Without meditation practice the mind is like a bull in a china shop. It is out of control and destroys everything along its path. It's not difficult to meditate and one doesn't actually need an intensive training to be able to meditate. Just sit still and listen to yourself. Start with paying attention to your breathing by focusing on the movements of your belly then the sensations in your body and the sounds around you and so on. If you get distracted then take your attention back to your belly. It's ok to be distracted, don't judge yourself if this happens. It happens to everybody. The most important thing to remember is that one should not expect any outcome from meditation. This way there wouldn't be any frustrations or disappointments if it feels like nothing is achieved after the meditation practice. In reality many things change after the meditation practice but it takes time to notice them so it's not a quick fix that most people are after.
