You can tell the writers have no clue what to do with Blake after the jettisoned the White Fang subplot and Adam after Volume 6. Without her supporting cast, she's been stripped of her entire character so now the only role she'll get to serve is being Yang's trophy wife.

To make matters worse they don't show Blake fighting back against faunus racism anymore even when the opportunity presents itself - instead she stands there looking sad whilst Yang or occasionally Weiss handles it for her

Such a shame that the first actual bits of character development Blake's gotten in the past 2-almost-3 years has come from friggin' song lyrics on a tie-in sourdtrack. And of course, it's all about how she pines for Y*ng. SMFH

Yeah, it's the people insisting it was "planned from the beginning" that really bug me. Like you said, there was so much going on with Blake and Sun that it makes no sense that they were planning for BB at first. If they were, then Suns stuff just comes across as a waste of time. And even if it was planned from the start, that doesn't automatically mean it's GOOD. It just means they had a plan. Congratulations, you drew up a map! Now can we please have a well-structured narrative?!

exactly! why even set up the whole sun thing if the writers are only going to spend the next two volumes pretending he (and by extension his relationship with blake) never existed

I’m seeing this dumbass argument that only cishet men are against bb floating around again, so here it is from an actual lesbian:

Bumbleby is a poorly-written and unhealthy relationship that reads more as a trauma bond than anything else, there’s no way it was planned from the beginning when there was so much build-up for a romantic relationship between Blake and Sun, and the writers at this point are just stringing the fans along and dodging confirming them as queer even though other characters were allowed to be attracted to the opposite sex with much less buildup

The ship in recent volumes is very watered-down and boring and mostly consists of Blake looking sad whilst Yang gets angry on her behalf, which has also stripped away Blake’s whole thing of fighting against faunus oppression in the early volumes and threw that whole subplot under the bus for shipping fuel in the fight against Adam. It overshadows their important relationships with other characters, like Yang and Ruby, or tbh either of them with any other member of team RWBY - many of their interactions with other characters (on the rare occasion that they’re not glued together) are centered around the other one

Most people who dislike bb are not homophobic, many of us are LGBT+ ourselves, and not liking a fictional ship (especially a badly-written and queerbait-y one) is not automatically homophobia

Yang and Blake aren’t written as individuals anymore, the writing surrounding bb is terrible and tbh, while I don’t ship it myself, Blacksun was better
