A hand grabbed her shoulder, and the next second she was shoved into what she assumed was either a janitor’s closet or a very dark hallway, she had no clue. The pained screams and smoke crawling in under the door were the only hints Wade had thrown a smoke grenade—or maybe a lethal one, who knows—at the goons.

—Princess, you need more cardio.

—Shut your mouth, Wilson.

—Oooooooooohhh. That’s the third time you’ve called me by my last name. So... evil supervillain lair gunfire isn’t your idea of a good date?

She tried to steady her breathing. She did need more cardio, but she wasn’t going to let him see her out of breath. She also hated stairs.

She was pissed, and he got that. He’d feel worse if it weren’t so fun hanging out with his best friend. A best friend. Huh. Life was good.

Wade wanted to laugh. Obviously, Wade couldn’t laugh. If Wade laughed, he’d get period cramps for two hours again, and he really wanted to avoid that if possible.

—NO! —she took a deep breath— Don’t start with the author, the readers, the viewers or whatever!. I’m already struggling to keep up with all your dammed Disney references.

She took another deep breath. She wanted to be absolutely furious at the merc, but she could feel it: Wade was genuinely happy to be with her. Maybe disappearing for three weeks without notice wasn’t super nice on her part. In her defense: She hated New York.
