Deipnon
A dark moon rises unseen
Without Helios's reflection, it is both there and not there.
It exists in a state of in-between,
The liminal space where She resides.
Queen of the heavens, the mortal world and the Underworld,
She is three-faced, triple crowned, Goddess of Crossroads.
She escorts the wandering dead to their place of peace.
She sits her throne as Titan,
A Goddess before the Olympians ever ruled.
She guides all witches here on Earth,
Pressing us to recreate our own reality.
In her hair, black dogs howl
And in her eyes, I can see revenge.
Her robes are the night sky and tonight,
I am among the stars.

Moth
As a worm, their only pleasure is in eating
They spend almost their entire lives feasting
On green leaves and stems, expanding
Swiftly and shedding skin that is too small
Defenseless except for chamoflage
Or perhaps a foul taste
By then it's too late.
If they make it that far, they race far and wide
Purging their fluids all at once in a green heap
Only to rest in their designated position
Shedding their skin one last time to sleep.
Time passes and they change within
Until it's time to start again
Pushing out in an impossible burst of energy
After eating nothing for so long,
They emerge to become ghosts in the darkness.
The flicker of wings in the night.

Daughters of the Sea
She turns her head slowly,
Serpents undulate and writhe about her neck and shoulders
A gown of white and gold flows from her body
It's as if a lifetime is passing by
Like the ships that sail close to this place
Hoping to catch a glimpse of the Gorgon
That calls this rocky outcrop her home
She moves so slowly that I've held my breath
Only to realize that she looks exactly like me.

Midwinter walks softly,
Just barely pressing into the wet and decay
Of what's left behind once the snow has melted.
Revealing treasures of a year gone.
Midwinter wears a cloak of grey
And weaves between the trees bare
Loving the ones with crisp needles and green.
The living bits that stand tall.
Midwinter brings hope of what will be
Like droplets in her hair and
Making way for the sun and slender shoots.
White buds stretch out from the muck.

Those Who Came Before
An ancestor
Long placed in the earth with a child in her womb
Held onto the thread of connection to life
Waiting for her great-granddaughter
To visit with her own girl children.
A greeting exchanged,
Permission granted to collect the grave earth,
Leaving behind only 3 coins,
And the trails of wonder that follow the living.
Her thread has one more entwined with it,
And I can hear her in my blood.

Moon Child
Like waves upon the shoreline,
Emotions can crash and then quietly recede.
Whip themselves into a maelstrom of anger or fear
Only to wash back into a calm sea.
Reflecting a moon that smiles down upon it all.
She is a puppeteer holding the strings of the water
And of me.
Her hands are upon my shoulders as I cry.

There once...
There once was a maid.
And by maid, I mean young, innocent and virginal.
She walked through the world with light feet and rosy cheeks
Not yet aware of the shadows that always gather
When someone shines with life and adventure.
There once was a mother.
And by mother, I mean that the maid created life
From within her womb, a child grew and was born
Screaming into this world, covered in her life's blood.
She sees the shadows now and gently pushes them away.
There once was a crone.
And by crone, I mean that the mother has lines
Upon the face that was once plump and pink.
She leaves footprints behind her when she walks
Wrapping the shadows around her like a cloak of memories.
Her light still burns
Like embers in a hearth.

I don't know if you know this,
But I've got this daughter.
She's very special.
She holds a mirror up ,
To all the messes I've ever made
So, I can see them more clearly
Through the fingerprints and smudges
And deep dive into the abyss
Of what I could have done differently.
She's always there to help me find my truth.

The Exchange
Did I become a mother for me?
Or was it for the children I would have?
It was wholeheartedly for me.
And I never could have guessed how it would change me.
A selfish act that has taken its pound of flesh
And then some.
Replacing it with a backbone
and a will of iron.
A protective streak now graces my skin,
and my Mom voice is strong.
