Hiii I love your work though I do have to ask why you put everything in separate places. I don’t have X/Twitter which makes it difficult at times to read on some of the characters more. I’m not complaining I just would like to know why. Apologies for asking you don’t have to answer. (ー^ー;)

In summary: this is a known issue that is slowly being fixed with the new "updated character facts" series, and I am very sorry for the inconvenience being caused m(_ _)m

Everything that was shared exclusively to Twitter back in 2022 and 2023 is now also available on twstnote! (ad-free, I receive no revenue from visitors)

In long explanation:

This blog content has (mostly) been identical to Twitter content since July 2023, so I wonder if maybe this question is related to some of the earlier content from before? (Please do let me know if I am misunderstanding!)

Until July 2023 this blog did not share Character Fact information in waves like it does now! It used to be that things were all shared as soon as information-gathering was complete, which resulted in shuffled orders like Ortho Facts pt3, Vil facts pt 23, Ruggie facts pt 5, etc., all being shared in the same week.

It was a strange system that I now regret so much! I had been worried at the time that people would become unhappy hearing always about only one character for weeks at a time 💦

In July 2023 the system was changed to match Twitter content in the middle of Leona facts, which resulted in a curious dilemma of some characters having their facts never shared to Tumblr at all.

This problem has been temporarily corrected on twstnote.com!

Old character facts are shown just as Tumblr-post embeds, and information that never reached Tumblr due to the posting-schedule update is available directly on-site!

On Ruggie's information compilation page, for example, up to part 8 shows Tumblr embed links, while "Ruggie’s Unique Magic, Vargas Camp, Stealing" (and everything else) are all integrated into the site itself. This is because only up to part 8 was ever shared to Tumblr, but then came the system change, and the rest of Ruggie's information never reached here.

Q: "But I am looking at Sebek and Silver's facts and those aren't Tumblr embedded links? They're all inside the site, but also not from 2023?"

A: That is a part of the changes slowly coming to the site with the "Updated Character Facts" series!

I noticed that, with the Tumblr-embed system, if someone wanted to enlarge a screenshot they would be redirected to Tumblr and have to make an account to view. This seems impolite to people who maybe just want to know more about a character without having to join Tumblr, so with the "Updated Facts" series all content is being uploaded directly on-site rather than using just Tumblr embeds :>

It is taking a long time but updates are being made every day, and I am so grateful for everyone's understanding through these times of trial and error m(_ _)m

One major flaw with TWST's writing is that its tendency to drop important worldbuilding and character details out of the blue without any prior foreshadowing. The last arc is a great example of this. Ace starts to complain out of nowhere about how he isn't powerful enough compared to the others. In the next update, he gets a super OP Unique Magic that's not even used in the climax, making me genuinely wonder what the fuck the point of that was. In the last update, it's revealed that Malleus is like Elsa where he was "blessed" by the senate to be more powerful and that emotionally isolated. That's great and fleshes him out as a character, but there were no hints whatsoever that was the case, so it's coming right the fuck out of nowhere. That's like if instead of setting up Elsa's issues at the start, the movie never explained anything throughout most of the movie and then had someone tell that in passing right before the credits. It's terrible writing. Plain and simple.

This isn't nothing new either. A lot of the lore dropped in Book 6? Completely out of nowhere and no foreshadowing to speak of. But it's extremely annoying regardless.

Foreshadowing? What's that?

Put another tally mark on the board of "How Twisted Wonderland could have been better written."

I'm not even opposed to the idea of Ace having an over-powered signature spell, but I was expecting it to be a little more relevant. You know. . .more climactic? Maybe draw out his feelings of inferiority regarding his peers until the next chapter and have it play a pivotal role in the finale of chapter 8? Or something? But they just like . . .dropped that on us and it just kind of exists. . .

I have a long, long, long, long, long, list of stories I've read that just give payoffs without setups and gives answers to questions that were never asked, or retcons, or questions that never get answered, but we'll not go into that here. TWST has a tendency to have a few very well written story bits surrounded by a bunch of half-baked fluff. It makes it come across as poorly planned and that's just sad.

Twisted Wonderland Dorm Uniform Takes

Hello, people of the Twisted Wonderland world! Today I shall be making a post on what I think about the dorm uniforms! I've been meaning to put my 3 cents into the rig for a long time now! Why 3 instead of 2? Bc I just like to go the extra mile 😊

Let us begin!!!

Okay, so let's kick this off with the first of the dorms and their leaders, Riddle Rosehearts!

I. FREAKING. LOVE IIIIIT!!!

The crown, the cape (although it's a little long), the BOOTS, even the little rose shape thingies around his waist.

Not only is it fancy, not only is it pretty, it's distinct enough that you could pick Riddle out of a crowd among the Heartslabyul students even if you couldn't see his head.

And not a detail wasted! Everything, from the little buttons, to the way the red, black, and white all mix together in a way that doesn't distract from his face, to the makeup (chef's kiss 😘) Man! It's just perfect!

As for the others...

I'm sorry but the dorm uniforms for the underclassmen/non-housewarden students are so unappealing in comparison.

I'm not really a fan of white or yellow, but at least Riddle had a means to divide everything through the red and blacks in his cloak and boots. There is NONE of that for the others.

The high top sneakers are just 🤕 and the scoop-neck shirt is giving "my mommy wouldn't lemme wear a fancy suit bc she didn't want me to stain it while I eat" like bRO LET THEM DRESS UP TOOOOoo!

...okay maybe I'm being unfair since the weirdness of their uniforms are kinda the point since the dorm itself is weird, but why are they kinda ugly/boring?

I also hate how bare the legs are compared to the jacket, bc the white is bURNING MY EYES TO A CRISP and it hurts to have to look at these guys in full!

....Trey's is basically all the points I had from before but +the hat. Why give my guy a fedora? And why does it barely hang onto his head? I hated how in his live 2D sprite it looked like the devs just pasted it on post production like they forgot he had one initially??? If you don't believe me, look at how Rook looks in his hats!

Onto the second dorm, based on my favorite movie!

Look, son. I'm not mad, just disappointed. Wtf is with his shirt??? It's like the only thing that keeps his dorm uniform from being tolerable.

Like the bottom of it looks like it had been half-eaten by bugs or dry-rotted and for some reason Leona never bothered to get a new one in any way.

The cowboy boots are slappin' tho, and I like the fur.

Overall not bad, just weird. It's a nice contrast from Riddle's design.

Jack's sure is a design of all time.

Formless, shapeless, colorless. Udderly vacant.

I love this baby boy, so excuse me if my bias is coming out, but I generally love this little rendition of his uniform.

It's smart since he's the smallest of the group, as it covers up his chest that would otherwise look exposed.

Also the glove is just 👌

Octavinelle 🦑🫧

Look at him. This looks immaculate. It's like my second favorite next to Riddle's. Azul just oozes "boss" whenever he wears this.

...Random nit pick though, while I don't HATE the extra coat, I do wonder if it's a little heavy? The whole time he was in Scarabia I was sweating just looking at him.

Other than that, this is pretty much an 8 out of 10.

Jade's is pretty standard. He's a butler eel man. Nothing else to see here.

Floyd, my beloved 🥰

He's wearing the dorm uniform so wrongly, but it's perfect for him. Not only does it inject some humor into it, but it showcases Floyd's chaotic personality pretty well. He wouldn't want to wear his clothes "the correct way" as it would be considered boring, no doubt.

Overall, I really like the Octavinelle dorm uniforms.

Malleus' Dorm SSR vignette gave me stomach pain.

I'm serious.

*Ahem*. Help, everyone I mean hello. Hello, everyone . Welcome to my blog thingy.

I just wanna start off saying this is probably the first time I've actually felt this strongly about a vignette of all things. Irrationally so. I've been so bothered about it that it's made it hard for me to sleep. Yes. I swear I'm not joking. 🫩

I went to bed at like 2 in the morning last night from thinking about it. Because, well, the way it's structured is just...so bizarre?

Um, let me put in some ground work first. Most vignettes are just random tidbits or lore of a character that while it won't really impact a story, could give you better insight and even better understand how a character views things in different settings.

And what's special about a vignette compared to an event story, there's no rush for the character to have their moment, they don't have to fight over the spotlight to get a funny or cute or interesting moment.

Usually.

What's especially special about an SSR vignette is that it has three acts as opposed to just one or two, so that you can get a more fleshed out story to better immerse yourself with your favorite character.

Again, usually.

This did not happen in Malleus' Dorm SSR vignette. What happened was-

Why would they make the card centering around-no, no, Rika. You must endure. Maybe there's an interesting point that comes after this.

Part Two

Okay, so we FINALLY get in Diasomnia Dorm and Lilia and Malleus talk about Malleus' reason for being unable to attend the dorm meetings, which, in all seriousness, develop more questions than answers.

1) If Malleus is THIS sheltered, what measures did Lilia try to enact to combat this once he got out of Briar Valley?

2) If Malleus' phone (his only means of communication apparently) was constantly getting damaged that easily, why didn't Lilia try and talk with the Headmage about creating an earpiece specifically designed for him?

3) If Malleus' absence was this much of an issue, why didn't the Headmage do something about it already?

Ig you could say that the last part was simply that the Headmage didn't feel like it and/or didn't think it was SO important that one of the strongest mages in existence to attend a meeting-or that Malleus somehow has so little presence that he simply forgot Malleus altogether (he tends to do the latter a lot, which is very 🤔)

....

....What?

Why did Lilia say this?

And why wasn't that very comment acknowledged by Malleus, or hell, even Lilia (not like, in the moment, I mean like, at all, like at least as an acknowledgement of his own behavior in how it affected Malleus)

I'm sorry but I'm a little worried about just how much he lashes out at Malleus here?? It also feels a little hypocritical that Lilia comments about Malleus "breaking a phone every time he gets mad" when Lilia LITERALLY GAVE IT TO HIM AFTER THEY JUST DISCUSSED MALLEUS' PENCHANT FOR BREAKING THINGS ON ACCIDENT??

And then it FINALLY gives us something vaguely resembling lore through Malleus talking about how humans fear "creatures of the night", referring to the nocturnal fae.

And then it starts to get to something interesting!!

A.K.A. Why Lilia Vanrouge is Awesome!!!

I'd like to apologize.

Heavy spoilers for the English content for Book 7 as I will need to delve into Peepaw Lilia's backstory for this to make any lick of sense, so if you haven't caught up, you'll have to skip 😔

Since there's a good many of you guys who would need context for the whole "counter culture" thing, I'll have to dive into the history of the punk movement for a bit, so please bear with me.

So, what even is punk? Punk is an attitude, a way of life, but it wouldn't be anything without its music. Begining in the 70s with most of its origins in England and North America, it rejected the "conformist" nature of music at the time, talking about anti-establishment and, what do you know, counterculture! They were big on freedom of expression and showing off their individualality, regardless if it was "acceptable" or "proper" in the eyes of the layman.

Why do I bring this up? Well, because of Lilia's involvement in the Pop Music Club!

Music being one of the key elements here, I noticed in one of his vignettes how Lilia is often cited to be able to growl, similar to death metal screams (this being due to his ability to modify his vocal chords with magic due to the ancient fae language, which is being spoken less and less withing Briar Valley) and interestingly enough the growl has actually some roots in punk and emo scenes!

Lilia also tends to have his tastes in fashion mostly derive from punk and goth related fashion, like fish nets, black nail polish, and even his hair!

See what I'm seeing?

So... what's the point?

I'm sure this is where you've come to, the whole point of this. Well, it all starts with his past!

Lilia was born an orphan, with no family or royal history prior to being taken in by the Draconians, and, despite being a bat fae, which is one of the lower ranks of the totem pole next to pixies, is not only the most infamous and powerful soldier in Briar Valley's fae army, but was able to befriend the land's princess and her soon to be husband and gain the respect of many.

This was a problem for the higher ups of Briar Valley, who, clearly show a bias towards how they think the hierarchy should go.

Ergo, the Council:

BOOOOO- Ahem.

The Council is introduced as the spirits of the royals (assumedly non-monarch) who had long since passed from their time yet decided to use their powers to protect the original castle of Briar Valley, the place even Queen Malenoa (Mal's grandma) resides.

They're also... incredibly classist. The air around them and Lilia was palpable (kudos to the writing team for that) as they don't hold any of their ignorance back with not only blaming Lilia for the death of their Queen, who very willingly sacrificed herself for the safety of her egg. Calling him "filthy" and "foolish" even after he nearly died himself, twice in fact.

And then, when they or the Queen or the other royals couldn't get the egg to hatch after many, many failed attempts due to Malleus rejecting their magic, the Queen called Lilia back to the capital to find a means to get their prince to finally hatch or he'll die.

And after many, many travels to the other lands and even allowing Malleus to absorb his lifeforce, again, sacrificing himself all for the sake and well being for his country, what do they do? Do they thank him for this heroic act?! Nope! They brandish him again as filthy and plot to hide the details of Malleus's birth regarding Lilia's sacrifice out of pure hater energy!

And, I'm sure you're aware of it, but the story is practically screaming at us that the Council is the physical manifestations of the old ways of Briar Valley, a.k.a. the status quo (kinda like the music/fashion was prior to the punk explosion) while Lilia is the counterculture!

From his multi-colored hair, to his ability to rub shoulders with the FREAKING RULERS of the land and could GET THEM TO LIKE HIM, to his ever changing views of humans and his own home. Lilia's very existence spits in the hypothetical faces of the Council members!

To put it into terms it's like this: if pixies were goombas, then Lilia would probably be like a Koopa Troopa- and to the Council, it's as if the Koopa Troopa became a Bullet Bill!

He's the very reason why Malleus himself has a less hostile impression of humans; his current self is completely different from how he was when introduced to Silver as a baby.

Just wanted to put this on since it's such a great analysis and made me look at Sebek differently, seeing things from his point of view.

Is sebek racist? Only a fun question, do not take seriously

Hello hello! Thank you so much for this question, I have been so excited to discuss Sebek's speech patterns since Book 7 reached EN~🥳

Silver says outright that Sebek can be prejudiced at times and Lilia states in the beginning of Book 7 that Sebek is the very picture of his grandfather, from the way he talks to the way he thinks.

We as the players do not realize how literally he means this comment until later in Book 7 when we meet Baul Zigvolt and realize that their speech patterns have a lot in common:

While maybe difficult to put across in the English-language adaptation of the game, Sebek has always spoken very old fashioned.

(Ace: "Okay grandpa, you gonna take her for a buggy ride next?")

He will occasionally say "this Sebek" in reference to himself, which Baul also does. (They are also both canonically quite loud, possibly another trait that Sebek adopted from Baul).

Sebek will also infamously refer to others using the 貴様 form of "you," which doesn't really exist outside of fiction and is such a rude form that it is practically a swear word. More here ->

Sebek uses it constantly, in everyday conversation.

And see Baul using it in Book 7 just all the time, with everyone except his superiors such as Lilia and Maleanor (there is even a time he becomes very angry and uses it with the senate).

Also like Baul, Sebek will switch to the extremely old-fashioned and formal "kiden" to refer to people who have impressed him. More here ->

Sebek's battle cry of "I'll swallow you whole" even seems to come from Baul!

And another thing Baul did in Book 7: refer to Sebek as human rather than by his name until Sebek earned his respect, which we have also seen happen between Sebek and Azul.

(In a Nightmare Before Christmas voiceline Sebek refers to Zero as a ghost and then a dog, eventually settling on his name, while he refers to Jack Skellington as "Bones." Is Sebek not just calling out humans, but referring to everyone by what they are rather than who they are?*)

(Does he simply yell human more than "dog," "ghost," etc., because humans are the species we have seen him interact with the most? It was confirmed in the novels that mermaids, beast-people, etc., are all referred to as "human" within the Twst universe, which has yet to be confirmed by the game but also has yet to be disproved.)

Sebek also refers to Grim as "dire beast."

There is a significant moment where he shifts to calling both Grim and the prefect by their names in Book 7, which the prefect even has the option of acknowledging aloud: "Whoa, you called me by my name?"

In a Harveston sub-plot Sebek even refuses to use an honorific with Epel's grandmother Marja until she proves herself worth of his respect.

Silver calls Sebek out on his inappropriate use of "kisama," while both Riddle and Sebek scold him for referring to people as "humans."

Whereas Epel's rude speech patterns can be explained by how it is a part of the dialect he was raised to speak and therefore he doesn't know any better (more here ->) Sebek is consciously and intentionally speaking down to others until they prove themselves worthy--is this something he learned from Baul?

Sebek says that Baul provided him with "an enriching education," but what exactly did that education entail?

Lilia expresses frustration with Sebek's inability to adapt to society, but canonically Sebek has only been outside of Briar Valley for 6 months, while he's been emulating his grandfather for 16 years.

Lilia says that Sebek has always been close to Baul and Jamil has a line of, "When admiration goes too far, the consequences can be dire."

I always assumed this was meant to be about Malleus, and while it still might be, is it also a reference to Sebek's devoted imitation of his beloved grandfather?

And we can go even deeper if we want, though this goes into theoretical territory:

Sebek was born after Briarland had already fallen to its invaders, but he was raised in a community where the war is still living memory.

Baul fought to protect his home against those who overran the land, exploited its resources, labeled him a monster, and drove them all into a fraction of their former territory.

He remembers what Briarland was before it the invasion, he fought to save it, he failed, and he survived to help put what was left of the country back together.

And then his daughter married someone who is potentially a direct descendent of the very invaders who had spent years killing anyone who looked like him and destroying everything he'd known (with even his native language possibly disappearing: Sebek says that speakers are "somewhat rare" in modern day, as the fae have generally adopted Common as their language of choice).

Sebek: "This has been weighing on me ever since we entered Lilia's dream. That my own father's distant ancestors may very well have been involved in all this too..."

And due to the long lifespans of the fae he isn't the only one with trauma and loss that feels both recent and personal.

Sebek and his siblings were not raised amongst the offspring of those who survived the war but the literal survivors themselves, unlike the humans to whom the wars are ancient history.

Sebek: "You must remember: from Lilia, Grandfather, and Malleus's perspectives...the Dawn Knight is not likely someone they consider to belong to the 'distant past.'"

While not confirmed in-game, it is not too wild to imagine that Sebek has chosen to ally himself with the survivors rather the invaders, and especially when he has been raised to idolize Malleus, whose own mother they killed not very long ago by fae standards.

While humans have been reproducing and dying at such a rapid pace that the current generation might not know that dragons are real, the same fae that managed to escape the slaughter are still there, and are now being met with the people born of those who stole their country but to whom there doesn't seem to be much significance to it all beyond a chapter in a history book.

And that might all be very well tied up in Sebek's use of "human"! (Disclaimer: this is all just a personal analysis and one of many possible explanations!)

Not only does it seem to be a speech pattern that Sebek has adopted directly from the grandfather he adores (and from Lilia and Malleus, who are also known to refer to non-fae as "humans" and whom he idolizes), but it may also be a reminder both to himself and to everyone around that while he may be two worlds in one, he does not approve of those that tore apart the community he grew up in, lest someone wrongfully assume that he agrees with the actions of his human ancestors.

Which would make it a form of self-preservation while growing up in a predominantly fae area.

Sebek's speech patterns and behaviors might be serving as a way for him to assert his loyalty to the fae, the people whom he admires, identifies with and was raised by, and distance himself from the humans who tried to eradicate them.

(If Sebek’s mother brought his father to Briar Valley from somewhere else (possibly Sunset Savanna) as has been implied, it’s possible Sebek’s human lineage isn’t tied to the invaders at all, but this is still vague.)

*Sebek refers to Sally as "Sally" throughout the Halloween event, using her name without an honorific but at least using it, much like he did with Marja. He also chastises Trey for failing to offer his hand to Sally and help her to her feet when she falls to the ground. Does Sebek possibly have a chivalrous side, not dissimilar to Leona? Memo: must check.

One of the most heartbreaking parts about lilia leaving is how it felt like he was running away from malleus

And this happens again at the farewell party

Lilia was fine with leaving without talking with malleus, almost as if he was a bit relieved that he wouldn’t have to say goodbye to him directly

And we know why, this is bc Lilia really loves Malleus as his son

It’s easier (not easy, easier) to say goodbye to Silver, he has know Silver for 17 years what isn’t much for a fae. he took silver and raised him as his own, Silver will always be Lilias son, but their time together was always destined to be short

Among these 17 years I believe that Lilia was already aware that his time was coming, and even if he didn’t, he knew that humans have a smaller lifespan and that both of them would part ways soon. He was prepared for this no matter how painful it would be

But he was not prepared to say goodbye to malleus

He loved malleus for almost 400 years

400 years

WHAT could you say as goodbye for someone you dedicated most of your life to??? Lilia spent two centuries searching the world for a way to hatch malleus then the next two centuries raising him

Lilia lived 700 years and he spent about 400 of them caring for Malleus

how would he say goodbye?

Lilia also says that he doesn’t want his boys to see him weak

Lilia, were you afraid that you wouldn’t be able to hold your tears when saying goodbye to your first son?

Are you really strong enough to say your farewells?
