I’ve recently come to the realisation that I am now choosing the school subjects that will determine my future, a future i do not know of. I don’t know what I want to do. I barely know what I like to do. All i’ve ever done is what other people tell me to do, and now i’m on my own, and i’m terrified.

Sometimes my dog lays outside the door at night.

It’s my parents job to let him in, they promise that if he barks, whines, brings attention to himself, they’ll know that he’s asking for help.

Yet he stays quiet. They never know when he needs help, because he seems to scared to ask for it.

When he finally gathered the courage, he was so scared that instead of a whine, he let out a bark.

Isn’t that what they asked for?

Instead of being helped, he is reprimanded.

Yelled at, brushed past, for yelling, drawing too much attention to himself. Because everyone gets scared sometimes, right?

So now he never asks for help anymore.

He just lays outside the door.

But then again, I wasn’t put on this earth to be afraid of my own existence.

My sister’s in the room next door with her girlfriend, and I wonder how she can not be scared.

Scared that her friends and family will treat her differently, scared that she wont get into ‘heaven’, scared that she’s living a lie.

How can she be sure that she actually likes girls, and that she isn’t just lying to herself for some reason, because I know that they love each other so desperately, but how is she not scared that she’s just doing it to be different?

I know that she will never feel the fear of being our parents hope for a son-in-law, because I am here, and she likes girls, so statistically, I can’t. Can I?

She likes girls so there is no way that I could ever but I say all of this because for her it is so right, and she is so happy, and I’m so proud of her, and she’s never had a doubt in her mind.

So how can something that is so right when it happens with her, be so wrong when it comes to me?

Because I am so, so scared. And I have tried so, so hard to make it go away. Because I feel as if I am lying. Maybe the only people I have ever loved were really just great friends, and I had never had that before. But do people plan their whole lives around their best friends?

And does everybody’s skin start to burn when they think of what could have been?
