Brief summary of the plot (without too many details because I’m planning to write a book) under the cut:

In this world, children with magical abilities are sent on monster-fighting quests (I’m sure you’ve all read something similar before). ‘Protectors’ are assigned to supervise these quests to make sure the children don’t get hurt. At least, that’s the public’s belief. The truth is that the children are not there to be made heroes, but sacrifices, keeping the magic-hungry monsters satisfied so they’ll leave the kingdom alone.

Our main man here is one of those Protectors, with a long history of taking children on ‘quests’ and making them disappear. But things get complicated when an unremarkable little girl storms into the forest in search of her missing brother.

So, where has this Protector buried all his children? Or are they even buried at all?

P.S if I ever publish that book please forget all of this bc it’s major spoilers lol
