Formal reminder that being anti-war is a privilege. Safety is a privilege as well. Shouldn't be, it's horrible, but that's just how the world works, and I'm sorry to say that. Be thankful for your safety and security - some people can't.

The world is crazy right now, and every word you say about it is sensitive. Raising your voice is the most important thing you can do right now, but it also holds heavy responsibility. Buzz words are flying all over the internet, and I urge you to think critically.

Don't share some pretty post just because someone else did. Don't believe something just because someone with a lot of charisma told you it's a fact. Examine the facts. Don't be biased, social media is build to be a big echo chamber and a rage machine - don't let them bank on your emotions. Research the facts from both sides before you reach your conclusion, and take everything they tell you with a grain of salt.

Things are different than what they seem online.

You are smart. You want to do good in the world. So don't shout into the void - you can do more hurt than good. Be open to the possibility that people are lying to you. An aesthetic infographic can't tell you the complexity if the middle eastern geopolitics. Validate your sources.

Be strong. Be safe. Be smart.

The Girl in the Window

There are three things Jacob Nelson does not believe in: music, love, and magic. Yes, Jacob is a rational person who likes order and things that make sense. But when he sees the girl in the window? Well, that is a different case. This is a weird modern take on the sirens of the ancient Greek myth. It is said that these creatures were beautiful girls with bird-like bodies, whose song was so haunting it led sailors to their demise.

It's a weird one, guys, you have been warned.

“Writing is so fun,” I say, as I:

Rewrite the same sentence six times.

Cut a line I loved for "flow" and immediately wish I found a way to make it fit instead.

Sit motionless for twelve minutes trying to decide whether I should use commas or em-dashes for one particular phrase.

Get distracted imagining a scene four chapters ahead that has nothing to do with the current plot.

Change one word and feel like I just altered the fate of humanity.

Re-read my own dialogue and debate whether it’s good or if it will make people give up on the fanfic instead.

Delete an entire paragraph because it didn’t feel right.

Spend twenty minutes choosing between “said,” “asked,” “murmured,” or “whispered,” as if it will alter the timeline.

Get emotionally attached to a metaphor no one else will even notice.

Write one (1) good line and convince myself I deserve a national award.

Leave a comment for myself in the draft like: “Fix This Crap” and then never fix it.

Realize I cannot explain how time works. Was that scene three minutes or three hours? Unclear.

Pause mid-sentence to stare at the wall and question my life choices.

Get so overwhelmed I close the page and proceed to feel guilty about it for three days.

Threaten to delete everything and start over. Again. For the seventh time this week.

Post it anyway. Obsessively check stats like my life depends on it.

In Our Days of Innocence

As the heroes of this story — or rather, survivors — would later reminisce, it’s unclear when exactly this bunch grew out of the innocence of their youth. Maybe they never did, and were simply kids all along. Perhaps innocence was never their privilege, and they were born to face the cynical world as it was. Either way, the tragedy was always there; the interpretation was in the eye of the beholder. The Marauders & Co are finally graduating from Hogwarts. Faced with endless possibilities, but threatened by the imminent war shadowing the world as they know it, what turns will their lives take? Can they survive, so long as they rely on each other?

Alright, I'm working on the third chapter of ATN, but I fear the fanfic writer curse got to me. I had a weird medical issue flare up and then a really eventful weekend full of emergencies.

I'm okay, but it might take a while before the chapter is up. Don't worry, it's totally worth it, I promise you both angst and comfort, and a lengthy chapter this time!
