Statistics can be nefarious not just because of what this article talks about, but how they can be used to skew just about any perspective when combined with linguistic framing/psychology/clickbait.
That doesn't mean that stats have no quality for empirical use (they are SO useful in science and progress!), it simply means they can be more easily co-opted to push a narrative instead of revealing a truth.

A garden can be beautiful, it can be useful, it can be wild or stringently rowed. But a successful garden is rarely one that is on the extremes of any of it, and incorporates all of it.
There's a reason people used Companion Planting for thousands of years before mega-farming took over.

From the article: '"...More recently, researchers have also documented intersex horses, dogs, moose, sheep, fish, and many different types of invertebrates. Intersex animals are rare across species, Crossman says, but they’re “more common than we historically thought.”"'
Humans know so little still about the world around us, and yet so many choose to preach that they do...

Leon (Lev) Theramin, a Russian inventor known best for the same-named instrument, was also the creator of the first technological passive listening device used in government espionage. The Americans were the first to be bugged, and it took years for them to figure it out.
The Great Seal was delivered to the US Ambassador in Moscow in 1945, just after the end of WW2. The schoolchildren who gifted this 'sign of friendship' likely had no idea what they were helping with. The spyware existed for 7 years before being discovered, with the US government having absolutely no idea how secure information was continuously being leaked.
Russia has been leading the way in espionage tech maneuverings ever since, right on through the 2020 USA presidential elections.

George Gorton II (1865-1955) was a manufacturer from Racine, Wisconsin (USA) at the turn of the 20th century. Unbeknownst to most, his company's machines contribute to our daily lives even now - through the little known "Gorton" engraving font.
A subtle reminder to keep your eyes out for the every day wonders we live in.

Arkansas is trying to do away entirely with their Library Board (& the local PBS channel) and punting it to the Department of Education to manage....that thing country leadership is trying to get rid of? Not sure how that's supposed to work...

Ancient Rome was home to the first women's rights protest march in 195BC, to force the Senate to revoke a wartime law (lex Oppia) that persisted 20 years after the war it was made for (& the rest of the wartime laws abolished), restricting how much gold a woman could wear as jewelry. Woman marched to Rome from towns and hamlets to the city, proving it wasn't just an issue for women of economic means.
Cato (yes, that Cato) was railing against the protest in the Senate, saying if they removed the law that husbands would forever lose control over their wives....if only, eh?
”Men think about the Roman Empire” “What’s the female version of the Roman Empire” SHUT UPPPPP. SHUT THE FUCK UPPPPPP. AS A WOMAN I LOVE THE ROMAN EMPIRE. AS A WOMAN I LOVE ANCIENT HISTORY AND BATTLES AND POLITICAL INSTABILITY. THE “GIRL VERSION OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE” IS THE ROMAN EMPIRE. IM GOING TO STAB YOU 23 TIMES

The "usurper" Eugenius ruled for a mere 2 years after being deemed unacceptable by the eastern Christian emperor Theodisius I, due to Eugenius's reported tolerance for religious freedom.
