i'm so excited to finally publish the first chapter of my fix-it-fic where soap survives the bullet, a project that i've been working on and off since 2023!

here's the summary:

In the tunnel, Soap survives the bullet to his head but falls into a coma that he will only wake up from after almost three months have passed, while Ghost struggles with his own resurfacing issues leading to a mandatory medical leave being forced on him.

Now Soap has to adapt to a changed body and a new reality that he has yet to accept, leading him back to a place he had long left behind. Meanwhile, Ghost finds himself spiraling after Soap’s near-death experience brings back bitter memories that he believed he had buried once and for all, and finds himself confronted with his past.

Even off the battlefield, the two men ultimately gravitate towards each other, becoming closer than ever in unanticipated ways.

i love to imagine this beautiful, carefully planned, and thought out wedding ceremony for ghost and soap, but if i'm honest with myself then they'd probably just secretly elope on a cliff in scotland or something like that

i replayed the 2019 campaign, took some screenshots and whew... gaz really is the most gorgeous boy

gaz: dressed up all nice, taken in the bathroom of some fancy hotel during a function

price: boomer sunglasses selfie inside a car

soap: gymbro selfie inspired by neil's gym selfies

ghost: accidentally flashbanged by his phone, trying to insert the charging cable after getting piss drunk

i can't stop thinking about ghost meeting soap's toddler nephew & niece for the first time, and the little ones are just staring at simon's face so intensively because they've never seen scars like that

ghost would surely come up with the most random made up stories to make them feel less afraid or just to fuck with them

"this one? oh yeah, i fell off my bicycle a few years ago because i wasn't careful enough" and it's a literal glasgow smile

later, when they're alone, simon jokes to soap about how he hopes that they're not going to a swimming pool any time soon because he can't come up with a good fake story for his autopsy scar

and funnily enough, this scenario could be applied to post 2023!soap as well in a way. because surely someone had to explain to these little kids why their uncle suddenly has a huge scar on one side of his head

or perhaps they just slap a bandaid on soap's head and say that he hit his head in an accident or something along those lines, and refuse to elaborate further

i do wonder who's better at babysitting, ghost or soap?

ghost IS an older brother, and i'm sure that he had to take care of tommy whenever his mother couldn't (don't even get me started on his father, that man isn't taking care of any kids!!). and isn't having a little sibling basically like babysitting with some extra steps? and i can definitely imagine that ghost used to babysit joseph too whenever tommy and beth needed a break from parenting. despite his intimidating exterior, i do believe that kids love simon. he's just this tall, scary looking but kinda nice weird adult to them (that always has a stupid joke ready)

now, soap on the other hand i headcanon as the youngest of 3. you can't convince that he doesn't have two older sisters. so in his case, he most definitely was the one being babysat in childhood. BUT if he ends up being an uncle one day you know he's taking it seriously!! he's probably also great with children, alas in a different way than ghost. imagine that picture with the iron man actor with his kid vs the thor actor with his kid. yeah. soap is probably the fun adult (with weird hair).

ghost scar headcanons (CW for his backstory)

since i headcanon ghost to have quite a few scars, i decided to make a "character sheet" or "scar map" to keep my art more consistent.

in the drawing, the scars are already labeled and i think pretty self-explanatory, but i will go into some more detail and elaborate on my headcanons. again, please read the content warning. i did my best at trying to discuss the following in a sensitive way, but it may be upsetting to read nonetheless.

let's begin with the ones that say "mission". i imagined they are just random scars he sustained during his service over the years, like gunshot scars or knife slashes from close combat.

but others like "roba's hook", the autopsy scar, tally marks, the whip scars and his glasgow smile are from during the time where he was captured and tortured. i headcanon reboot ghost to have pretty much the same backstory as OG ghost, with some slight differences and additions of my own.

things like the glasgow smile or tally marks are made up by me, and others like the being hanged from his ribs actually happened (comics). ghost was also canonically sexually assaulted multiple times, which gave me the idea of said tally marks to emphasise how cruel his captors were.

correct me if i'm wrong, but in the comics ghost doesn't have any scars after being tortured, any cuts shown on his body just cease to exist a few panels later. but considering what he was put through, i do think that there would be permanent scarring.

now, it's also canon that ghost was abused by his father in ways like him bringing large animals such as snakes in his room to scare him, or having him watch a woman die from OD, which made me consider what the full extent of his terrible father's "parenting" must've looked like.

ghost has a small, almost faded scar under his eye, he was too young to remember how he got it, only finding out when his mother told him. his father was being neglectful when he was supposed to watch him, and simon injured himself while wandering around.

now, it is unclear in the comics if mr. riley's abuse was purely psychological, or if it extended to physical as well (again, correct me if i'm wrong). but i didn't find it unrealistic to have the latter be the case, which is why simon has cigarette burn scars on his neck and legs. his father found it amusing under the guise of "making him a man" and seeing how long little simon could take it before he would start crying. nowadays the burns are barely visible.

and lastly, the self harm scars covered up by the tattoo sleeve on his left arm. considering what simon had to go through at an early age, it is not unlikely that he might have resorted to SH as a teenager OR as a young adult after his family's death & roba's torture. i image that later, he got the tattoo as a reminder to himself that those days are his past and not his present.
