Damian Wayne is actually pretty confident in romantic relationships in the comics. He flirts, he commits hard, and he adores his partners.
If he and Jon got together, it would be full throttle down the aisle. They are obsessed with each other. Damian is planning the wedding after the second date and calling his mom to get the traditional wedding rings out of storage.
The funny thing is that he forgot to tell Jon, and it's only after Damian refers to him as his intended or something (they get attacked by Talias men as a way to ascertain if Jon is good enough for her baby) that Jon realises they are even dating.
It hits him like a train. All the gifts, dinners, and physical affection mean Damian likes him back, Loves him back. Jon takes a breath, takes another, and goes with it.
He loves Damian, always has, in so many ways it is hard to imagine a world where they don't spend they rest of their lives together one way or another.
And God did Damian grow up to be pretty.
And as this all occurs to him as they stand over the bodies of unconscious Assassin's, in front of a satisfied Talia. He decides he is going to marry this ridiculous man.
And he has so much to catch up on.
He can't let Damian win at romance, he refuses. If they are going to do this Jon is going to shower Damian with all of the affection he has spent years holding back.
Thus commences Jon's mission of being the very best partner ever.
He learns Ma Kent's recipes, and then after he gets her number, Talias recipes from Damians childhood. He brings coffee when Damian is getting off shift at the hospital. He learns what makes Damian blush and stutter. He learns how to kiss him in a way that makes them both breathless. (He gets addicted to being able to incite reactions in Damian, making him melt under his hands or flush such pretty colours with names like darling, sweetheart, or pretty boy.)
He asks Talia, Bruce, and Dick for permission to marry Damian. They all have different reactions. (Talias smiles as she threatens him, Bruce quizzes him on his intentions, and Dick cries but still instils a fear so intense he now understands why Nightwing can handle the entire city of Bludhaven by himself)
He and Lois pick out the ring together. A pretty gold band with sapphire and emeralds.
He ties the ring onto Titus collar and waits for Damian outside the hospital with all of his co-workers filming. It has to be the most romantic proposal in history, and Damian cries happy tears. Even if he is upset, he couldn't officially ask Jon first. The real issue is this all happened within six weeks of dating. No one really noticed and thought they had been together for years at that point.
As a married couple, they are Gomez and Morticia levels of obsessed with each other but with more competition.

the thing about Damian, especially pre-Robin, is that you have to straddle a line between child and cult assassin. He’s a nuanced character, you can’t dumb him down or simplify him. (On that note: PLEASE stop calling him feral! It’s pretty racist!)
You cannot make other characters be nice and understanding to him from the start like Dick or Tim or Jason. You cannot make them treat him like a toddler below his actual age.
You also cannot make him a irredeemable psychopath who exists only to hurt Tim and sow conflict. Because that’s just straight up not true. Fanon.
Writing Damian needs to be a balance between these, and he needs this nuance to be interesting.
If everyone treats him softly, then there’s no point for Damian’s personality as it is. He is rude and arrogant and abrasive for a reason. You could argue that he’s spoiled, but he’s also a child who was ripped from a culture he knew and thrust into the arms of a white family who don’t understand him and don’t make the effort to actually teach him their views. He’s rude and angry because there is no place for him there, not until Robin, and even then he is still subject to their judgements. If everyone treats him with kid gloves, then his attitude comes without justification and doesn’t make sense.
Please remember that when Damian first appeared in comics, everyone except Talia disliked him. Bruce wasn’t sure what to do with him, but he also was quick to scream obedience. From Dick’s inner monologue in Resurrection of Ras al Ghul and his very early interactions in Batman and Robin, he didn’t like the kid and thought him a burden to bear in the place of Bruce. Tim never once gave him mercy after the first meeting. His inner monologue and actions all speak of hate and teenage angst - some justified, some way out of line.
Damian’s anger is then reasonably apparent. He doesn’t fit in. He can’t. But he doesn’t seek violence. He doesn’t try to murder everyone in their sleep like some people think. It’s shocking that fanon’s interpretation of him is a boy who goes for the throat in every interaction. He’s snippy, but in every single comic I’ve read he’s never tried to fight someone without a justification. If he was an X-Men level telepath, then I’d argue that his actions would become worse if he really knew what people thought of him at first glance.
If you’re a child that knows he is hated, then you lash out. You test boundaries. You see what will make them exile you, hurt you. You are a brown boy surrounded by a white city in a culture that you don’t understand. You cannot see your mother again. They hate her. You cannot express yourself in a world that expects the worst. You are shackled by expectation and judgement. They won’t let you be, but they won’t let you go.
You are stuck.
And in this, you will always be.

I love that, She and Ma Kent helped Jon pick out the ring.
Jon also fully thinks he asked Bruce for his permission, but Bruce thought he meant as hero partners or something and was so tired after a mission he just said yes. Dick almost punches him for "Giving away my Baby!"
Talia is also glaring at Bruce with blades in her hands.
I can't help but be enamored with the idea of Dr. Damian, retiring from the costume but maybe not entirely from the superheroing life. It won't stick for comics but the fic idea of Dami running a clinic that heroes frequents delights me. It's pro-bono, etc etc. But if you're lucky, you might see somebody who suspiciously looks like superboy swing by. Random titans.
Then one day the good doctor gets kidnapped, the villain not knowing this is a former Robin, and it could go a few ways: he gets rescued, he frees himself or in the process of being rescued (unknowingly), he freed himself lolol
No I actually really like this! I also think it would help give the heroes a sense of security because they wouldn't have to like hide their identity from him cus he just already knows them lol. I think would also benefit the heroes that don't have powers either.
Do members of Damian's family come into the clinic also? If only just to check up on him and to see how he's doing. You think Damian would still charge them a hospital fee? I think so only because he knows very well they can afford it lol
It's kind of giving me the same energy as those underground doctors that work for the mafia LOL except it's heroes 😌
And for sure I think just about everyone in the hero a community would become a bit protective of him only because that's their doctor! It's also Bruce Wayne's kid, if Damian ever does get kidnapped it's almost always Jon rescuing him whether Damian is able to free himself or not. I feel like at some point tho the villains would pick up on the fact to maybe not mess with Damian very much like how they shouldn't mess with Lois cus both Clark and Jon go absolutely feral when their person's in danger.
villain 1: I don't think we should touch the doctor anymore guys...
villain 2: why not?
villain 1: cus whenever we do it's almost always superman, the young one not the old one, that comes to his rescue and beats us pretty badly...
villain 2:
villain 1: I think he might actually kill us if we tried again... It scares me steven...

Tim: Oh yeah, Bruce was totally gonna kill Joker. But he did this while thing where right after you died he became the ambassador of Iran or something, so B killing him would've made it an international incident, so Clark stopped him.
Jason, who didn't even say anything to prompt this:
Jason: What the fuck? Can he even- The ambassador of Iran? What the fuck?

I believe in Disney Princess Damian supremacy. I believe in a boy who loves nature so much it loves him back just as fiercely.
Odiespenelope on ao3 wrote a one shot and it has occupied my every waking thought since. The Al ghul are eco terrorists, the boy loves the world and I need that influence and core belief to filter into more of his actions.
Give me a Damian that when he came to Gotham, was horrified at the state of local animals and ecosystems and since his father will not allow him to punish every abuser or ceo who destroys the environment like they deserve, He will work to fix their mistakes. Fulfil both his parents legacies at once by making this city better for all living creatures not just people.
Give me a damian who after causing so much pain learnt love from Goliath, the bats in the cave and Titus. Let him learn how to spread it to other animals and eventually people.
Give me a Damian who feeds every stray he comes across no matter the species to the point Alfred sows him extra pockets in his robin uniform and civilian coats. Some are big enough to hold cats and injured birds safely during fights.
Damian brings home and fosters any animal he can hide from Bruce. The largest so far has been a horse he liberated from a neglectful carriage driver in Gotham Park. (Father caught Goliath within three days so it doesn't count.)
After batcow arrives it becomes easier because when she is not in the cave, Bruce doesn't look in her Barn. The Barn has become his base of animal and plant operations. With the help of Alfred and a very amused Oracle (she found out after watching Damian on traffic cams with dozens of cats following him around like adoring fans) it grows larger and more extreme.
He creates relationships with every no kill shelter in the city and most decent veterinarians. The network becomes helpful in finding good homes for the animals he rescues and blacklisting bad owners.
Anyone found abusing an animal lives in fear of katanas. They hear soft words to puppies and cats after they have been brutally incapacitated.
He investigates companies with harmful environmental practices and passes any information he has onto Oracle to deal with. (For particularly bad offenders, he let's poison Ivy deal with them)
He carries around wild flower seed balls and puts money into local parks and nature reserves. The harbour is his next big project. ( There's so much he could do with an oyster and seaweed farm for biological filtration and detoxification of the water.)
He just never expects Gothams animals to protect him aswell.
He rescues an army of pigeons who attack a mugger after they gets a lucky shot in and get Damian in the throat. The birds descend in a fury. The mugger is so terrified he gives up before Damian can get him back for the throat punch.
The cats are next. Clawing and Biting human traffickers. Bruce assumes Silena did it, but Damian (who has twisted his ankle in the fight) knows.
It's only after a raccoon starts handing him back batarangs that he's thrown that he decides to try cultivating this behaviour on purpose.
Jon, who he goes to for animal husbandry advice and later training tips, thinks this is the funniest thing to happen ever. (Once he knows the amount of work Damian does for so many animals, he starts to fall a little in love with the boy who has birds happily making a home in his hair and only truly smiles at his strays.)
It's not long until every criminal begins to fear the sound of wings in alleys and claws on cement. You never know which stray is one of Robins.
The batfamily only realise what's going on when Damian is kidnapped and is rescued by a pack of stray dogs somehow. Each has a robin themed collar. Dick thinks it's the cutest thing in the universe, and Bruce gives him funds directly to increase the size of his operation. (After he freaks out about Damian being so much like Talia and how could he be this blind to what's going on in his house. He rescued hundreds of animals??? How??)
Robins Strays now includes exotic birds, a tiger, a couple of goats, a deer, and hundreds of rats and mice, each trained to gather information and retrieve lost and missing items during investigations.
Ivy, Harley, and Silena have dubbed him a Siren and give him any animals or environment related cases they can't personally handle. (Damian adores them, especially after meeting Harleys hyenas)
Gotham adores Robin and knows never to hurt an animal with an R on it or any animal, really. They make plushies of Goliath when he is introduced to the public after an arkham asylum breakout. (Bruce gave up on trying to get the animals to stop fighting crime. It's as useless as trying to stop his children.)
Jon eventually asks Damian out while they are bottle feeding newborn kittens in the barn under the watchful eyes of two dragons and a zoos' worth of pets.
He gets shovel talked by Silena and Ivy first. It's terrifying.

What if Damian becomes a doctor/goes to med school and then starts dating Jon?
What if while they are eachothers first crush and superhero partners, they only fall in love over study sessions and Jon dropping off food after 24-hour shifts. It's awkward because they have known each other so long but so natural because they are different people now, and they still fit into eachothers lives like they were always meant to be.
Jon is so excited to tell people he's marrying a doctor, showing off photos of Damian in scrubs, and treating kids.
Damian is much subtler but no less sappy telling patients about his partners non super adventures and childhood fumbles to relax them during procedures. There are pictures of Jon riding Batcow like a horse in this office for this exact reason.
The entire department sigh over their relationship because Jon makes him lunch and leaves little notes. He even greets him with coffee after he gets off work when he can. They are the hospital OTP.
When they finally do get married Jon gets a necklace where damian can hold his ring without it interfering at work.
Damian calls him when he has time, just to hear his voice or get comfort when he loses a patient.
Jon calls with mildly concerning medical questions when Damian knows he is on a mission.
Just Dr Damian and his Husband Jon.

But he moves back to Gotham after school to work with Leslie and keep the mf hero's alive
Damian is DETERMINED to study med and become a doctor but is terrified of what Bruce will think until Bruce just lets out a long sigh and tells him it’s fine as long as he doesn’t go to school in Gotham because there’s a 90% chance he’ll become a zany supervillain

Bruce can never truly benched Damian because that boy would just.... Be one of his other siblings'/family friend's sidekick.
Oh? What's that? Robin is benched until further notice because of [insert reason here]? Sucks to suck, Nightbird is here now.
Huh, Robin and Nightbird can't make it to the field? Well, Batman didn't say anything about Redbird now, did he?
Welp! Since Robin, Nightbird and Redbird are all out of commission, I don't see any reason why Emu can't make a debut now!
This is awkward, but no fear for Batboy is here!
Batman can catch both Spoiler and Raider's hand—
Well.... Batman didn't say anything about patrolling during daylight, which is a good thing since that's when Messenger is out to play :)
If Bruce still doesn't relent, Damian just goes back full circle and makes a rotation.
(it's based on this art where an official artist from DC drew Damian in many costumes inspired by his brothers' vigilante gig)

I've been giggling at this for a good minute, it's the fact that the first half of his other sidekick names is just different variations of bird name's, I'm particularly fond of Emu.
This is also peak 10 to 12 year old Damian behavior because turly you can't bench him, you can't tie him down, you can't put baby in a corner, no one puts baby in a corner, he's going out on patrol whether you like it or not.
Listen he has a whole list of names and different identities he's been working on, he has backups for his backups you'd be dumb to think he doesn't. Did he cop some of his brothers costume ideas? sure but he rocks it better anyway. At this point Bruce just gives up, there's nothing he can do, Damian's older brothers maybe enable it a bit cus they think it's pretty cool that they get to have their own sidekick for a while.
And the art! He's so tiny 😭😭💚💚

I think this would also go along the lines of the other heroes being protective of their doctor
Like I will always love Jon going to rescue him but I think it's even funnier if like five different people go too.
The batfamily are going because that's their baby brother. It's comic accurate when Damian dissappears everyone in the entire family assembles like overprotective bloodhounds.
The titans hear about the kidnapping and head off without notifying anyone. Just "hell yeah, we are going to save Dr. Robin, he may lecture us, but he also gives us snacks after visits no matter how old we are."
Members of the justice league are ready to fight God and win for the one doctor who is so nice to their kids at vaccinations and does not ask questions. Diana leading the charge because Lizzie would become a villain before she let anything happen to her babysitter.
Batman is a force to himself, like John Wick in a cowl. He calls Dick and no one else. He is getting his son back now and everything else can wait. The one son who left the cape behind and is supposed to be safe now. There will be no mercy and if he goes too far Damian can just revive them.
Then there's Damians collection of pets and misfits. I feel like we all forget Damian makes friends easily in weird ways that ensure they are trauma bonded for life. I'm talking Maya and Goliath, Connor hawke, Mara and his mother all showing up to get Damian back. Possibly Colin and Maps too. Definitely Rose Wilson because I like their dynamic.
In the end all of the rescuers meet outside where Damian is being kept and argue over who gets to go in first. It's devolves very quickly into who does Damian like more, with Dick Grayson fist fighting everyone for the honour.
The battle only ends when Jon appears carrying Damian bridal style.
Damian high off his ass on whatever they gave him to keep him compliant accidentally declares his love to Jon in front of everyone and says they should get married because this is the final step in the League of Assassin's courting anyway. Jon blushes but tells him he already has a ring and will ask him when he's sober. Damian kisses him and promptly passes out.
Chaos Erupts
Especially since no one knew they were dating. Batman and Nightwing have to be stopped from using kryptonite. Talia declares that Jon must win Damian in a duel.
Jon gets dozens of shovel talks and a new fear of Stephanie Brown. Clark shows up just a few minutes later asking after his son in law. Bruce is having a crisis in the corner and contemplating new contingency plans.
When Damian wakes up, he is in the batcave next to a weeping Dick Grayson, begging him not to leave him so soon. He's so young there's no need to get married so soon. It's a couple of weeks before Jon is allowed near him again.
The villains learnt a very important lesson.
Don't Touch the Doctor
I can't help but be enamored with the idea of Dr. Damian, retiring from the costume but maybe not entirely from the superheroing life. I think anyone that studies medicine with Damian would lowkey hate his ass.
Not in a mean way, but in a petty why-aren't-you-struggling-like-me type of way. I mean, thanks to Robin and the league Damian is light years ahead of everyone on terms of experience and it would show.
Half the class is puking their guts out the first time they see a patient with an open fracture. Damian has been there, done that, seen that and worse. He's eating m&m's in the back.
They're all practicing making sutures until late. Damian is like "No, I don't need to join you. I could suture with my eyes closed" and then when someone is like "prove it, rich-boy" that mf actually blindfolds his eyes and sutures perfectly using four different techniques.
He also passes everything with flying colors! Because of course, the guy can't just be rich, good looking and famous, he has to be smart too.
And it just gets worse when he starts his actual residency.
Nothing shakes him! Thirty hour shifts? He doesn't even yawn. Extreme stress during a surgery gone awry? Damian is the one telling the other members of the surgical team to stay calm. Violent patient? They don't even get to call security, Damian has the guy pinned already.
And it would be easier to not get jealous of him if he somehow was a souless blood sucking asshole. But Damian is a good person, awkward and standoffish but always willing to help. He's there for whatever people need. He aids nurses, listens to patients, conforts victims. He sits with people for the bad news and when someone dies he gets this sad faraway look that shows he cares.
And it's just so unfair.

A Quick Guide to Damian’s Furry/Feathered/Scaled Companions
LEFT: R:SOB #1 Cover RIGHT: R:SOB #6
GOLIATH THE BAT DRAGON
Introduced in: ROBIN: SON OF BATMAN (2015) #1
DAMIAN'S BABY AND BEASTY BESTIE!! On a mission during the Year of Blood, Damian kills the family of bat dragons guarding his objective. Goliath, despite being the youngest and last of his kind, forgives Damian. Goliath goes on to become one of Damian's most loyal companions, even featuring beside him in Batman Beyond (2016) #10, #11, #43-#47!

LEFT: B&R #13 RIGHT: B&R #4
TITUS THE DOG
Introduced in: BATMAN AND ROBIN (2011) #2
A Great Dane gifted to Damian from Bruce as an effort in fatherhood. Funny enough, Damian finds him a nuisance at first and briefly refers to him as "Dog". Titus is a good boy that follows Damian's every step, even joining Bruce on his mission to resurrect Damian!

LEFT: Batman Inc #1 RIGHT: Batman Inc #7
BAT-COW THE COW
Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #1
Bat-Cow, branded with a star signifying which cattle were contaminated, was saved from a slaughterhouse to run some tests (which they do find of a mind control variety). Damian declares himself a vegetarian, and calls her Bat-Cow! She also sorta has a running gag of literally standing in the face of danger to save the day.

LEFT: Batman Inc #6 RIGHT: Batman Inc #7
ALFRED THE CAT
Introduced in: BATMAN INCORPORATED (2012) #6
Considered a "hopeless case" by the animal shelter, Alfred gifts him to Damian. The cat is a bold lil guy, which Damian takes an immediate liking to, and names him Alfred (likely because tuxedo cat = butler lol). After hours of chicken, playtime, and scratches, Damian and Alfred become friends! He makes his first appearance alongside Damian’s first appearance as Batman in BATMAN (1940) #666

LEFT: Batman: Li'l Gotham #2/#1 RIGHT: Batman: Li'l Gotham #23/#12
*JERRY THE TURKEY
Introduced in: BATMAN LI'L GOTHAM (2012) #2 (Digital) #1 (Printed)
The Penguin unleashes an army of turkeys at the Gotham Thanksgiving parade which Damian turns into his own li'l turkey march by playing the trumpet. He ends up bringing one of them back for Thanksgiving dinner (as a friend), and Jerry becomes a fairly regular appearance in the world of Li'l Gotham!

*WIGGLES THE DRAGON
Introduced in: NIGHTWING (2016) #42
A sort of filler issue where Damian has been kidnapped for his blood by the "Crimson Kabuki" in Tokyo, and Dick goes through a series of boss battles to save him. The dragon's blood has been the group's main source of power, so it ends up teaming with the duo, and returns home with them.
Wiggles was originally named by a fan, "Shanootnoot" on Twitter!
*Goliath, Titus, Bat-Cow, and Alfred the cat have been Damian's main canon cast of furry companions, but SUPER-PETS SPECIAL: BITEDENTITY CRISIS (2024) may have just added Jerry and Wiggles!!
