Predator and prey — a cycle as old as time.

Also inspired by several moments from The Magnus Archives tied to The Desolation and The Hunt. However, this art is meant to vent some of my anger about my own life & past.

Horacio is my playable character in our D&D party with some school friends. A gaunt, sharp-eyed spellcaster with a penchant for the eerie, he wields forbidden knowledge like a sword, balancing between wisdom and madness. His mystical mount and magical familiar, Scratnag, is a grotesque fusion of horse and rat—stitched together from vermin and shadow, its beady eyes gleaming with unnatural hunger. Together, they ride the edge of the arcane and the profane.

Also inspired by several The Magnus Archives episodes tied to The Distortion, particularly those that explore the themes of unreliable perception, shifting realities, and the horror of never knowing if what you see is real. The way corridors stretch endlessly, doors lead back to where they shouldn't, and voices whisper just out of reach — all of it feeds into an atmosphere of paranoia and existential dread. Anyway, I've absolutely missed the palette I made for Michael Shelley/The Distortion two years ago.

A design for those who know that beneath every sweet grin, teeth still lurk — inspired by hunger, deception, and the truth that always bleeds through. Also inspired by this one apple from The Magnus Archives Episode 34 - Anatomy Class, but also by The Flesh & The Corruption entities.

(Also, my symbolism-loving self totally did NOT made his face scars look like a 4, with the Glasgow smile scar and the one on his neck both being fallen 1s bc he lost two sergeants... Hahaha, unless..?)

Drawtober Day 4: Undead (Monster Mash prompts by @drawtober )

In the classical myth, Orpheus descends into the Underworld to bring back his beloved Eurydice. After charming Hades and Persephone with his music, they allow him to take her back to the world of the living, but with one condition: he must not look back at her until they’ve fully returned. Tragically, Orpheus, overcome by doubt and longing, turns around too soon, losing Eurydice forever.

For this piece, I reimagined Eurydice running back to the Underworld, no longer alive or beautiful to Orpheus, choosing to return to the shadows. This illustration took me two days to complete 💚🧟

Drawtober Day 3: Witch (Monster Mash prompts by @drawtober )

I recently discovered Epic: The Musical (created by @jayherrans on Instagram and featuring other incredibly talented artists) after a lifelong fascination with Greek mythology. Scylla’s song is probably my favorite, but something about Circe and Scylla’s lore really struck a chord with me — I tried to match both interpretations. For this piece, I reimagined the Hydra’s heads as something similar to kelpies (this choice led to the fact I officially dislike to draw horse skulls now, huzzah!). It took me hours — days, really — to complete this illustration, so I hope it doesn’t go unnoticed on Tumblr ✨🌙

FUN (SPIDER) FACT ABOUT THIS ART

The Portia spider, also known as the "assassin spider," is known for its remarkable ability to mimic the vibrations of other spiders to lure them into its vicinity. It can imitate the movements and vibrations of insects or even prey spiders caught in its web, tricking them into approaching closely before ambushing and consuming them. This sophisticated hunting strategy allows the Portia spider to prey on other spiders, making it a formidable predator in the arachnid world.
