objectively speaking the issues with lore olympus were so much bigger than just bad writing or wonky art. lore olympus was a promising but ultimately shallow fanfic, and honestly, no shame in that, we’ve all written stories and tropes that serve as wish fulfillment, more power to the cringe.

it’s that this series got so much money and time spent on it that it did not deserve - and that it really paved the way for other shallow and whitewashed series to become prominent. webtoons has only gotten more predatory towards its creators over the years, and that was helped in part by the success of lore olympus. which wasn’t even spared the same fate! for all the crap we rightfully put on rachel, there is no denying that webtoons squeezed that golden goose until it burst, and the quality suffered as a result.

clickbait sells, and lore was ultimately a flashy clickbait that just kept getting milked. the problem is that made it easier to stomp down on other creators and artists, and it made it easier to profit off of exploited mythology and culture. it’s a bummer ending that just adds on.

Younger me was somehow able to churn out a million words of writing about their ocs between the years 2009 and 2019 and then i started from scratch with (essentially) new ocs and plot, and I have only been able to write like 5000 words total in the last five years. I wonder if this is just a part of getting more exhausted by adult responsibilities or if I have lost the knack for writing. Did this happen to anyone else ?

calling it now - buck and eddie’s season 6 story will end with them (or them and chris, but i think just them, to drive the point home) on eddie’s couch. maybe we’ll have some more hints that they have both figured It™ out by then. but there’s no confession (direct or third party) and no kiss (that’s for season 7) just a quiet, soft and understated moment that simultaneously manages to be incredibly loud.

which is what 9-1-1 does best.

ahh... elena thinking that everything comes spontaneously and easily to lila in terms of how she carries herself like a sort of deity and then reading lila's notebooks and how many rewrites she has of letters and diary entries and...... cut to enzo saying he will stay with lila (meaning he will be there with her until she is ready to go) and her immediately asking "forever?" and he doesn't bother her with overanalyzing her slip-up or a vulnerable question dressed in sarcasm, whatever you call it (partially because he means it in a wider sense and partially because he sees through the facade... maybe doesn't even see through it necessarily, this is simply how lila is with enzo) and it's something about it there about how all of us exist as different people in the minds of everyone sure, but i'm particularly interested in those who love us here... and how that perspective can evolve in time. i don't think elena failed to understand lila, i think she even has a better understanding of the facade lila puts up (than enzo who sees right through it) due to falling for it from time to time in small ways. how you present yourself to the world says something about you as well and there is a special intimacy in understanding that about someone.

unfortunately bungo stray dogs is the epitome of a show/story that would be so good if it was good

#it honestly drives me insane #the bones are THERE #the characters are THERE #the metaphors are THERE #you could have built a city but instead you built a playground!!!!!#i fear I must be insane and fix the things that are missing at once #don’t get me wrong I love bsd a lot. and I think asagiri is brilliant.#and he’s becoming a stronger writer the longer he’s writing #but have you considered that BEAST makes much more thematic character storyline motivation etc etc sense than the original?#part of what makes BEAST so good is the direct juxtaposition between that universe and the main one #if only if it was as well written and thematically consistent as my hero aca <- gets shot #but again. I love love love love bsd. #fat man on a beach #b.s. johnson #classic tv #documentary #htv #michael bakewell #aled vaughan #a frankly incredible and truly unique piece of television. according to Johnson's biographer‚ the novelist Jonathan Coe‚ this film was #described in tv listings at the time as a documentary about Porth Ceiriad‚ a rather beautiful beach on the Llŷn Peninsula in North Wales #it.. is not that. i can only imagine the baffled reactions of an idle audience tuning into HTV in 1974. true‚ this is entirely filmed at #Porth Ceiriad‚ but any element of travelogue (or even really of documentary) is dispelled almost immediately: the first lines heard are #those of an unseen narrator who tells us we are about to watch a film about a fat man on a beach. 'Do you really want to watch that?' he #asks incredulously. it's a challenge‚ the first of several from Johnson‚ who spends the next 40 minutes variously pottering about the sands #mugging to the camera‚ reciting poetry (his own and others; literary and dirty) and baring his soul. I've never seen anything quite like it #I'm not sure that much has been made that is quite like it tbh. Johnson was a fiercely original‚ brilliant mind; he was a novelist #a poet‚ a critic and a filmmaker. he was also‚ when this first aired on uk tv‚ dead. a few weeks after completing filming on this‚ his #final work‚ he sadly took his own life. i mention it not as a grim factoid but because it is a vital contextualisation of this film; the #play has been described before (and play is not the right word) as a sort of loose form manifesto from Johnson‚ a laying out of his own #peculiar philosophies and interests in a disjointed manner‚ peppered with asides and distractions and filming mishaps (all kept in the #final product). for me‚ the feeling was inescapable that this was like viewing a suicide note. whether Johnson had already come to some #conclusion on that front or not‚ the fact is that his own obsession with morbidity‚ with the spectre of death and of decay (it runs right #through his work‚ particularly his work in film) transforms this into something almost confessional. there's a section of the film where #the author recalls witnessing the aftermath of a traffic accident‚ a motorcyclist thrown through wire fencing and sliced like cheese #the absurdity of the comparison is lingered on‚ Johnson almost stalls and appears to lose his train of thought (briefly discussing instead #the modern mass production of cheese) but he also seems clearly affected‚ delivering the tale in a halting‚ reverent tone #not that this is all darkness and gloom; it's just as often funny‚ or surreal (the film frequently cuts away to a bunch of bananas‚ only #later explained by one of Johnson's biographical recollections) and includes visual puns‚ bad jokes and a few moments of physical comedy #the writer doesn't seem distressed. rather‚ he seems... if not at peace‚ then as though he has come to terms. confident in his own beliefs #and ideals. but perhaps that's reaching too far‚ or reading in what the viewer wishes to read in. the sad fact is that Johnson took his own #life‚ but he left us with a body of work unlike almost anything else‚ and which is still being celebrated and analysed today. rip bsj

So, thinking 'bout those Trigun names, there. It is one of those animes where many characters are just ridiculously named. Vash = Vache (Cow). Millions Knives (*sporfle!*) - a lady named Rem who appears to Vash during his R.E.M. sleep... By far my favorite name in this series was from the little one-shot comic about Vash's day-to-day life. I think he was unnamed in the 1998 anime, but I remember in the manga version, he was "Super Sonic Sodom the Great." Just... OMG!

Ten days ago Schitt's Creek celebrated its first day on set. And like Kim's Convenience, I haven't finished watching its last season! I've perhaps watched a couple of episodes a year since the pandemic. For two reasons: first, because I can't watch without my sister and we don't live together anymore, and also because the Roses are family too, and I'm not ready to say goodbye!
