Jewelry Ideas for WoF OCS
Hello! I've compiled a massive list full of jewelry ideas for your Wings of Fire OCs, since I myself needed a list!
Something that's best to do is look through the categories below, and then look up online "X jewelry name" and then draw from actual images of jewelry. It helps!
When looking at all of these, think rather of more the general placement of something, and then think of more specific things such as metal type, jewel type, shape, etching, etc.!
--------------------------------------------------
Earrings
Earrings are straightforward and the easiest to do crazy stuff with. Stud refers to a simple backing with a front piece that can be a gem, shape, etc. out of many materials. Earrings can also dangle and loop in an assortment of ways! Look up refs for these. They go in EARS, you can have one, two, however many in one ear.
Metal hoop
Wooden Loop
Dangling gem
Multiple gems Dangling Off each Other
Gem Stud
Metal Orb Stud
Wooden Stud
--------------------------------------------------
Nose Piercings
These are piercings that fit into the nostril hole. You can have one, two, any number! One usually works the best though, and you can put them in between the nostrils or one in each.
Metal hoop
Stud through side of nose (Metal Orb, Gem, Wood, etc.)
--------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous Piercings
These are easiest to do with simple loops made of any kind of metal with no gemstones or anything extra. Below are the places a piercing can go on:
LeafWing back spine webbing
SeaWing back spine webbing
SeaWing under belly spine webbing
SeaWing talon web loop
RainWing frill loop or stud (just like ears!)
Wing webbing (Be careful about this; too many may get in the way or look strange. Probably not a very popular choice.)
SandWing sail
LeafWing leaf tail (impractical)
Tongue piercing
--------------------------------------------------
Rings
These can have any metal, any number of gemstones, have different etchings in them, etc. It's VERY helpful just to look up rings for reference on these. Below are places rings can go.
Some more specific things you can do with rings is have a simple metal band, have different thickness/thinness, etch the metal, put a single big gemstone on it, cover it in gemstones, or have gemstones all around! Lot's of things. Some can even be shaped like things.
Talon ring (finger or thumb)
Horn ring
HiveWing middle snout horn ring
Wing thumb ring
Wing thumb claw ring
Wing finger ring
Wing finger claw ring
Nose horn ring
Back foot ankle toe ring
IceWing, MudWing, NightWing neck spike ring(s)
SandWing barb ring (very small and impractical)
--------------------------------------------------
Bands
These refer to things that are bracelets and other metal or cloth loops that go around body parts. NOT rings. Rings are small.
Some more specific things you can do with rings is have a simple metal band, etch the metal, have different thickness/thinness, put a single big gemstone on it, cover it in gemstones, or have gemstones all around! Lot's of things. Some can even be shaped like things.
Tail band (at the base or near the end, different sizes. Can have multiple.)
Wrist band
Upper Arm band
Ankle band
Calf band
Neck band (Not a necklace; a thick metal band that goes AROUND neck)
SilkWing school band
SandWing Barb band
--------------------------------------------------
Necklaces
Look up necklaces reference via search engine for best result, but here are some general necklace ideas:
Any kind of gemstone dangling from a chain
Chain
Locket pendants
Moon, Sun, Leaf, other nature shaped pendant (Wood, metal, etc.)
Shell necklace
Pearl necklace
Flower chain necklace
--------------------------------------------------
Embedments
These are usually gemstone embedments and some places they can go. In theory, they can go ANYWHERE but these are more practical places.
Under eye gems
Eyebrow gems
Wedged between the scales along wing arm
Artificial NightWing teardrop scale embed
Gems around wrist or leg scales
Gems wedged in between back scutes (MudWing, NightWing, etc.)
--------------------------------------------------
Pouches
These are usually a kind of leather or leaf. Below is a list of parts of the body they can go on:
Underbelly chest pouch
Backpack (just underbelly pouch twisted around)
Chest pouch
Neck pouch(s)
Throat pouch
Wrist pouch
Ankle pouch
Calf pouch
Upper arm pouch
Base of tail (Impractical and awkward)
--------------------------------------------------
Head Adornments
These are any items that fit on the head, excluding horn rings, piercings, etc. These are things like crowns.
Silk veil (attached via horns and or ears)
Crown (SO many styles please just look up crowns)
Glasses
Monocle
Blindfold
Flower crown
Flowers weaving around horns
Chains weaving around horns
Charms dangling from horns
--------------------------------------------------
Prosthetic Enhancements
It's hard to list all prosthetics, so I will list a few and then some things you can do to get creative with them!
Peg leg with dangling charms
Prosthetic leg with dangling charms
Metal being etched with pretty patterns
Gemstones being put on non restrictive parts of the prosthetic
Leather etching
--------------------------------------------------
Miscellaneous
These are more obscure and less practical jewelry pieces that are usually tribe specific.
SeaWing chin barbel chain or ring (a jewelry piece that binds the barbels together, very unpractical)
SeaWing chin barbel piercing
SilkWing antennae string (Colorful piece of dyed silk attached to the ends)
Bandana around neck
Scarf
SandWing barb cap/attachment
Claws dipped in gold-leaf/other kinds of metal
Claw caps to make them sharper
Gold leaf/other metal leaf painting on scales
Cape! (This is super hard to do, but I made a good example of how a cape would work in this post: https://bellasauruss.tumblr.com/post/644977521943838720/challenge-accepted-chains-and-all
And that's all there is! If I find more or there are more suggested below, I'll add em! Hope you all appreciate this and enjoy it!
If you make art with some of the more obscure ones I'd LOVE to see it, so feel free to ping me! :D

leverage fic recs
So, I needed a better organizational system than my AO3 bookmarks (boy do I miss delicious!), so I’m just going to start a post for myself here and reblog it occasionally as I add to it. Most (all?) of these are OT3 fics, because I am who I am and I read what I read. If you want non-OT3 fic recs, I am not your person. Probably you have read these, but if you haven’t, what are you waiting for!
Gen:
01. The Fake Geek Boy Job, by shinealightonme.  It’s casefic at a fan convention and Eliot has to cosplay. In spandex. Go read it and enjoy yourself, already.
Beautiful shippy fic (everyone is together/small moments/slice of life):
01. The Three Rings Job, by HugeAlienPie.  Sophie POV. The OT3 at Nate and Sophie’s wedding, where Nate and Sophie are not aware that there is now an OT3. It’s soft. And so sweet you could serve it as dessert. And it has the best boat name for a Nate and Sophie boat in the world.
02. hacker/hitter/thief/home, by AtlantisRises.  A collection of short OT3 fics that hit you just right in the feels, in the best way.
03. Nothing’s Exactly What We Need, by BabylonsFall. The OT3, on vacation.
Everybody is together and also there’s a con:
01. Covenants, Conditions, & Restrictions, by page_runner.  We love a good long fic where the OT3 help an old lady and con an HOA, because HOA’s are the worst. This fic also gives me deeply hurt feelings about the team having to leave Portland, which I know in my heart is probably the Way of Things, but which I will never write myself because heartbreak. But this deals with that reality so beautifully, and it’s a good con, too.
Getting together OT3:  01. just want you close, by biblionerd07.  Eliot-POV, post-rundown, man am I a sucker for Eliot-POV stories where Parker and Hardison just...love the hell out of him, and this is just a lovely, careful, sweet version of that.
02. international small arms traffic blues, by ftmsteverogers.  Eliot POV, character study + get together fic. Makes you very sad for Eliot, and then happier for Eliot. And I’m a sucker for anytime someone has to call Sophie for advice.
03. So Come On, Avalanche, by elysiumwaits.  It is Eliot POV snowed-in at a cabin OT3 getting together fic, so idk what more you need to know to read it.
04. Rings a Bell, by venilia.  Eliot wakes up with amnesia and thinks he’s married to Hardison and also has a Parker, it’s silly and sweet.
05. The Thunderous Roll of a Tropical Sea (the moonlit memory I can’t seem to lose), by phnelt. **content notes: canon-typical violence + Mature! grown and sexy content ahoy!** I have classified this as a “getting together” story, because ultimately that is what happens, but it’s probably more like “eliot getting his shit together, and now they’re all together,” which is my favorite flavor of OT3 getting together fic, anyway. It starts out a little sad, because gasp! They were together but they split up!! But it has a happy ending. It also has fake marrieds, my favorite trope of all time. Eliot feeding Hardison strawberries and playing with his fake husband on a beach while Parker watches? Please.
06. Happy Meal, by @leiascully Listen, I admit that I am biased, because my wife wrote this for me, but it is this really hilarious flirting-over-the-comms-pre-OT3-sort-of-getting-together story, and I laughed, and it was great, so you should enjoy it, too.
07. Oklahoma’s Next Top Model, by Hedgehog-O-Brien (Roshwen).  Hardison POV. This fic has the greatest tag of all time, which is: “Title not entirely accurate bc Eliot's clearly a bottom but who cares“ and I knew I was in good hands solely on that basis before I read a word of the fic. Tbh I put this in this “getting together” category because I feel like it’s heavily implied at the end that there’s a getting together situation happening, but like, that’s not why you read this fic. You read this fic for the ridiculously over the top OT3 photoshoot of your wildest dreams. You will laugh. You will be entertained. Enjoy!
08. Fifty Fake Dates, by calico_fiction. WIP, Hardison POV. nb: This hasn’t been updated in a minute but a) I too have WIPs that take a long-ass time between updates, if this updated in ten years I would still be excited to read it and b) the chapter that’s up is such a delight to me that I really think it’s worth a read even if this is all of this story the author wants to post. It’s a great Hardison POV with some delicious pining and fake Hardison/Eliot dating, which is my jam.
09. For Real, by BurningTea. It’s hard to do an accidental marriage in this canon, but this fic did that! Hardison’s technical expertise goes a bit awry and everybody has to have....a talk. About feelings.
Hurt/comfort:
01. Dig Deep, by BurningTea.  Eliot has to dig his own grave and climb into it. It hurts a lot!!!! And then it’s comforting. So, exactly what it says on the tin. Good character observations and nicely written, hurts exactly right and comforts exactly right, too.
Hot (nsfw, 18+, Mature, grown and sexy content for grown and sexy adults):
01. Don’t Come Late, by @leiascully.  It’s just...the OT3, having really hot sex. That’s it, that’s the review. (The writing is delightful and there’s like, funny stuff in with the sexy stuff, which is real life and always nice to see, you know?)
02. Take the Leap, by Penknife.  Hardison POV, first time OT3 threesome/verbal domination. The characterization in this is just **chef’s kiss** perfection. Funny, and hot. My favorite combo.
03. The Post-Rundown Job, by DelektorskiChick.  Eliot POV, demi-Parker, mostly Eliot/Hardison but Parker’s participating in her own way. I’m a sucker for some good sexy post-injury care and this is right after Rundown, so it checks that box big time.
04. In Sync, by monsoon_moon. Eliot POV, first time OT3some.
Character studies:
01. Dawning, by @darkfinch. Eliot POV, mind all the warnings.  This (read with its sequel, a WIP linked below) is probably one of my favorite Leverage pieces in existence? It is just the most beautiful, dark, horrible look at Eliot-works-for-Moreau you could hope for, except that also there’s a sequel called Reverberate, and that is also perfect and intense and really digs into what’s happening in Eliot’s mind and life during s3 after Nate drops the “we’re going after Moreau” bombshell. Both of these stories are painfully perfect and believable and real and I love them with my whole heart. The story structure and writing on both of those pieces is just excellent and the characterization is pitch perfect, and along with the stress and trauma you really get some just fantastic character moments. Idky you’re reading my review instead of the story tbh go read that, thanks!
02. Ten Prides in Portland, by @leiascully.  I put this as a character study because it is one? It’s about queer shit, and learning to be part of a community of queer people, and learning that you can be a mentor and a role model for other queer people even if you don’t have your own stuff figured out. I am extremely biased because this is my wife and I got to watch this story grow into existence every day, but I think it’s a really beautiful look at the queer community broadly, all the people who fit under the umbrella, and belonging. It’s sweet and funny and beautiful, and I really needed to feel like I was at Pride this year, and this helped.
03. Different, by @leiascully. Hardison POV. Honestly this just made me want to go find baby Hardison and hug him for a really long time.
04. The Twine and the Things We Bind, by @darkfinch.  WIP, H/C, big on the H. Parker and Hardison taking care of an extremely fractious, extremely injured Eliot Spencer is my jam.com forever and this is all of that with beautiful characterization and writing. Also some of the best action scenes I’ve read in a while. I do not write action At All and this does it SO WELL.
05. A Kiss for Luck, by AlannaOfRoses.  Parker POV. A good look into Parker’s thoughts on luck during the Rundown Job/feelsy flashbacks.
OC/Outsider POV:
01. Let’s Go Steal a Protege, by @innytoes. WIP.  Gosh I adore this. It’s found family shenanigans from an outside-the-OT3 perspective. Jamie, the main POV OC (nonbinary rep!!), is a fucking delight of a human and their interactions with the super!married OT3 are all incredible. It is sweet and funny and sometimes sad but almost always in a happy tears kind of way, because it’s about finding a family. And there are so many genuine laugh-out-loud moments in this fic that I reread it a lot lately or think of it when I need something to lift my spirits. (There is a bit in chapter six with some thrift store purchases that I just absolutely lose my shit at every time.) I very badly want this story to just be canon tbh. Petition for that.
AU’s
01. The Out of This World Job (Or, Per Furtum Ad Astra), by pathera.  It’s a job, but it’s IN SPACE. Parker, Hardison, & Eliot find a spaceship; shenanigans ensue. Beautifully in character, some poignant character moments, awesome writing, and just a really vivid world.
02. Plastic Pearls, by BabylonsFall.  Kidfic! Various POV. Parker and Hardison move in across the hall from single-dad Eliot. I adore this, it is sweet and soft and everything you could hope for in a story where Eliot is raising a smol Molly.

@cianidix replied to your post:
The more you talk about this, the more I want to read it! Edgeworth-centric and also more Edgeworth-Maya interactions, ahhhhh. I’m also sooo interested in reading about how the relationship falls apart and how they (hopefully, maybe, I don’t believe Feenie is actually dead here… right??? Q_Q) eventually make better or move on and just- ahhhh I wish this fic was here already (if you get back to it)
(Trucy still exists, right? Even tho Wright wasn’t disbarred, right???)
Of course Trucy still exists I could never write her out of existence she’s too precious of a child to not be around in some way shape or form (and there’s nothing to say that Nick won’t end up with her at some point in the future, anyway -- he could always use another kid or two, and I think we all know it).  Interestingly enough, though, one of my other big works was an AA4-compliant piece, also Edgeworth-centric, that involved a lot of Edgeworth-Trucy interactions because Trucy’s a part of Phoenix’s life now, and if he wants to have any part in it himself Edgeworth has to get along with the adopted daughter.  It actually had a decent chunk of words in it, too (around 12k -- it’s the second excerpt from the link in the last post).
But in all honesty people getting excited about my stories gets me excited about those stories and since I still don’t know when I’m going to get around to writing the whole thing out, what’s the harm in dropping the summary?
Gonna give this another shot and Tumblr’s not gonna eat it this time mark my words
A couple notes before we get into things:
OCs are fair game in Ace Attorney as far as I’m concerned, and we’re certainly going to have a host of them.  From the prosecutor on the case to all of those involved, I’ll be making a whole cast and crew to back this story up, and if I can manage it there will be absolutely terrible puns, because that just seems to be how AA games operate.
Lana Skye is hands down one of my absolute favorite characters in the series, and it’s a crime that they only put her into one bonus case and put her in prison at the end of it.  For all of my continuities, I completely write out SL-9 as a case: Joe Darke never escaped his cell, Lana got into the prosecutor’s office and became chief by virtue of her own talents, and both the prosecutor’s office and the police department have cowboys running around.
I have a fairly non-standard view of Phoenix as a person, just based on everything I remember seeing in fandom back when I was more active.  For instance: I love the fact that he was an art student, but I’ve always specifically thought he was aiming to be an actor and had a thing for Shakespeare; frankly, the ad libbing that has to go into acting when something goes wrong explains so much for me where Nick’s bluffing is concerned (when a man interrogates a parrot, you know he has a weird history).  Unrelated but still relevant to that point, I think he’s actually a decent pianist and took lessons through most of his childhood and adolescence -- but he’s a classical pianist by training and not great at playing by ear, so people just think he sucks because he botches any modern tunes.  So if you see something that seems Weird compared to fandom’s general take, just know that it probably has backstory.
So with all that in mind, let’s dive in.
In true Ace Attorney fashion, the whole thing starts with a cold open.  As he finishes up the last of the paperwork associated with the case he wrapped up that afternoon, Phoenix gets a call from a familiar number, and though he dreads the conversation to come he answers anyway, refusing an offer to meet and saying that he can’t do this anymore before someone enters the inner office.  He insists that they’re closed as he turns toward the door, and a voice replies that this won’t take long -- and then there’s gunshots.  And then nothing.
The next morning, Maya is understandably shocked and horrified to arrive at the office and find that it’s once again a crime scene: bullet holes in the windows, blood on the floor, police everywhere...but no sign of Nick.  Gumshoe is on the scene, though, and after a lot of badgering, he reveals that there’s been no sign of Phoenix, but the police are operating under the assumption that he’s dead -- and they’ve already arrested a suspect.  Maya can’t imagine who would want to hurt Phoenix, and hearing that it’s Miles Edgeworth they’ve imprisoned just makes the whole thing feel that much more surreal.  Sure, Nick and Edgeworth have had their disagreements --- including one the day before, in the recesses of their trial, and Phoenix had seemed really upset after that -- but she didn’t think it was something worth killing over.
But she’s still hurt, and reeling from the morning’s news.  So her first order of business is to march down to the Detention Center to confront him.  Edgeworth is...not surprised to see her, given the circumstances -- but when she demands to know why he did it, he insists that he’s innocent: he would never harm Wright, no matter the circumstances.  As much as Maya wants to believe that, though, the fact that he doesn’t seem upset by Nick’s supposed death so much as the accusation that he had a hand in it rubs her wrong, and despite herself she can’t help but wonder if he did have some role in it; regardless, she still goes everywhere she can think of in hopes that there was a mistake, that Nick is okay after all, collecting evidence with every stop...but as it gets later, when there’s still no sign of him, she and Pearl return to the Detention Center.
With no defense counsel, Edgeworth is almost guaranteed to go to prison...but at Pearl’s urging, Maya steps up and offers to defend him, since she recently passed the bar and got her badge.  She spends the rest of the evening doing her best to cobble together a case based on what little information she has, and reports to the courthouse the next morning for her very first trial as a defense attorney.
Her first case, and Nick isn’t even there to see it.  She didn’t think it could hurt any worse.
Before they’re called into the courtroom, the defense gets a surprise visitor: chief prosecutor Lana Skye, come to deliver case notes and evidence files.  Maya barely gets time enough to leaf through them before they’re called into the courtroom to start the trial, where she finds herself facing the rising star from the prosecutor’s office: Gayle Huntington, a young woman who counts Chief Prosecutor Skye as her inspiration and who is excited to add another guilty verdict to her record, in spite of (or perhaps because of) the fact that one of her fellow prosecutors stands accused.
The prosecution declares it a crime of passion, and presents their theory of the case: following a heated confrontation outside the courtroom, Miles Edgeworth called Phoenix Wright to arrange a meeting.  While he may have intended only to put an end to the argument, tempers flared, and in a fit of rage the defendant shot the victim three times before dragging the body down to the street and driving it off to be disposed of at another location.  Their evidence includes the blood found at the scene, which matches Phoenix based on forensic testing; three bullet holes in the office window, though no slugs or casings were found at or around the office despite an extensive search with metal detectors; Edgeworth’s phone, which shows that the last call before he contacted 911 was made to Wright’s number; and a handgun found at the scene which shows evidence of recent firing, though no magazine was found in it.
Over the first day of testimony, Maya manages to shred the prosecution’s case based on that chain of events:
The gun, as it happens, belonged to Phoenix himself.  One of the documents the chief prosecutor provided to the defense was a photocopy of a sign-in sheet for a local gun range, which not only has Nick’s signature on it, but included a copy of his firearm registration and permit, which was for the exact make, model, and serial number as the purported murder weapon.  Lana Skye herself is called to the stand, as her name also appears on the sign-in, and she testifies that after court the previous day she happened across Wright at the range and they talked a bit; he said that he needed to blow off a bit of steam before going back to his paperwork, and she clearly recalls that he did not clean his weapon before leaving, instead saying that he would do so after he went home since his cleaning kit was there.  On closer examination, it's discovered that while the weapon has mostly been wiped clean, the trigger was not, and a partial print matching Phoenix is recovered.
On calling Edgeworth himself to the stand, he admits that he did contact Phoenix late in the evening in the hopes of resolving the argument from that afternoon; however, he was across townpicking up his car from the repair shop when he made that call, and when he heard what sounded like a shot before the call cut out he immediately drove to the office where he found the blood trail leading to the curb.  Cell tower records do, in fact, confirm that he was far from the defense attorney’s office when the call was made, and based on the time of his calls to both Phoenix and 911, there was far too narrow of a window to dispose of the body.
The next revelation comes with the filing of a new piece of evidence, courtesy of a frantic Gumshoe bursting into court and taking the stand.  The police, in their search of likely dumping grounds for a body, dredged something out of the river that seems to confirm that they have a murder on their hands: a blue suit coat with three apparent bullet holes in the back...and Phoenix’s badge still affixed to the lapel.  What little blood evidence they were able to collect matches Phoenix, as well.
For all that this is a stunning (and devastating) revelation, it brings with it yet more to undermine the prosecution’s case: namely the bullet evidence.  When placed on a mannequin, even coupled with the knowledge that Phoenix left his suit jacket unbuttoned while working in the office, the placement of the bullet holes in the back would require that there be associated entry points in the front -- which do not exist.  Maya draws the logical conclusion, then, that the shots must have been fired from outside the office -- through the window, and the reason no slugs or casings were found was because the shots weren’t fired from inside the office, and the bullets were still in the victim.
Despite the upset in court, the prosecution refuses to budge, and the Judge refuses to declare a Not Guilty verdict.  Court adjourns for the day instead, and Maya heads out to continue her investigation.  Making her way to the Gatewater Hotel, she manages to get information on who was staying in the room across from the office: four members of a jazz band in town for a show, who insist that they’re the only ones who have been in the room and that they were setting up for a performance on the night of the crime.  Though she doesn’t know them herself, she hears vague rumors that they have a fifth member who’s been in some ‘legal trouble.’  When Maya relates the name to Edgeworth, he remarks that it seems somehow familiar, though he can’t quite place why.  She also gets the prosecutor’s repair records and goes to check out the rental company he used while his car was in the shop, which nets her a copy of the damage and condition checklist the agent filled out when Edgeworth brought the car back.
While Maya has the case to occupy her mind, Miles has no such means of escaping his own thoughts in his prison cell.  Between the confirmation that the jacket does, in fact, belong to Phoenix (something he had tried to deny at first, hoping that the coat was a look-alike and the badge stolen, only to have that possibility dashed by the presence of Wright’s initials on the underside of the tag) and the relative isolation in the detention center, he’s had ample time to think over how things had been with Phoenix -- including how he, himself, had been with the defense attorney...and he’s forced to face some very hard truths about his behavior toward someone he cares about far more than he wanted to believe.
With the start of the second day in court, the prosecution has changed its theory of the crime, but not its perpetrator: rather than committing the crime alone, Edgeworth had an accomplice, and his call to Wright was a ploy to get him into firing range while the shooter waited in the hotel for his chance.   Leaving his rental car in front of the defense attorney’s office, he picked up his usual vehicle and upon arriving at the crime scene helped his accomplice load the body into the getaway car for disposal while he made a call to police.  Their evidence comes from photos of the rental vehicle in question, which show damage not reported on the return checklist, as well as blood evidence taken from the trunk which matches Phoenix.
Once again, Maya tears through the prosecution’s case piece by piece:
The damage in the evidence photos compared to the rental return form make for the first order of business.  On calling the man who signed off on Edgeworth’s car to the stand -- an amiable but nervous young Latine by the name of Novi Nada -- they swear up and down that the damage in the photos absolutely was not present when they checked the car in on the night of the crime.  (In true Ace Attorney form, this gets somewhat ridiculous, as this witness lapses into Spanish when especially nervous; when pressed, they insist “no vi nada” -- I didn’t see anything -- to which the Judge responds “yes we know your name now what did you see?”)
Sensor data from the rental lot finally confirms the agent’s version of events, where the car is registered as driving onto the lot shortly before the time marked on the inspection form; more importantly, it also recorded the car being driven off the lot and then back on much later.  Unfortunately, there is no additional inspection form, nor a record of who rented the car after Edgeworth, and therefore no record of who might have been involved.
Edgeworth is recalled to the stand to revisit his testimony, and he adds another key detail: while it was a sound that he took to be gunfire that sent him to the defense attorney’s office, Wright had said something strange during the call, mentioning that the office was closed -- as though he was speaking to someone else that had just arrived moments before the shots sounded and the call cut out.
Neither the defense’s office complex nor the Gatewater Hotel have video surveillance of the street; however, the Gatewater does take video of the lobby, which shows one of the four band members leaving around an hour before the crime occurred, two more leaving minutes before the shooting, and the last rushing through the lobby with a trombone case under his arm; notably, he’s the only one of the four to actually take his instrument when he left, as the others were all empty-handed.  Most importantly, though, the video proves that no one else left the hotel between the time of the shooting and the time that the police started arriving, which calls into question the notion of an accomplice helping Miles dispose of the body.
This, however, provides the prosecution with a shiny new theory: that Miles hired the band to act as hitmen while he kept his hands clean.  As it turns out, the reason the band name seemed familiar to him was because he was set to prosecute the fifth member of their group after his case against Phoenix wrapped up; the prosecutor posits that Miles promised to go easy on their incarcerated bandmate if they took out the defense attorney.
This is a damning accusation, and Maya has no ready response.  The Judge adjourns the court for the day, and the defense scrambles to come up with a way to prove that Edgeworth had no part in what happened and place the blame on the truly guilty.  She returns to the rental company and, while interviewing Novi further, finds out that the fifth bandmate has a sibling that works at the same agency.  She also returns to the Gatewater to speak with the band, and notices that the trombone case in the room doesn’t look like the one from the lobby video.  When asked, they say that the old case got lost...which seems odd to her, since the trombone itself is still there and doesn’t appear damaged.
While Maya looks deeper into the band, she reaches out to Miles for insight into the case he was supposed to prosecute.  The fifth band member had been taken into custody on suspicion of murder, and while he suspected that the man did not commit the crime alone, he hadn’t yet been able to prove that when all this happened.  For the first time, though, Maya starts to see real anger in the prosecutor -- not because these people dragged his good name through the mud with this set-up, but apparently because Phoenix’s blood is on their hands, and he can’t abide the thought of them getting away.  He readily gives her access to his office for the other case file (which Chief Prosecutor Skye secures for her) so that she can use it in establishing her own case.
Despite her best efforts, though, Maya simply can’t pull together enough solid evidence to prove that Miles didn’t have a hand in the crime -- and without proof of his innocence, the court intends to find him guilty.  But before the judge can hand down his verdict, the courtroom doors open, and a strident Objection! rises from the back of the room...and who should come limping up to the witness stand but Phoenix Wright himself.
The courtroom goes absolutely wild about this.
Understandably, the judge calls for a recess, and before the prosecution can drag him off to prep him for testimony Maya and Edgeworth at least get a minute with him.  As it turns out, Maya had forgotten her phone that morning, and Pearl grabbed it for her; just as they were called into court, though, it rang, and Pearl stayed behind to answer -- only to be shocked to hear Mister Nick’s voice on the other end, at which point she rushed off to beg Mister Scruffy Detective to take her to get the defense attorney from the hospital where he’d been for the past few days as a ‘John Doe’ (since he had no ID on him when he was brought in).  Maya is overwhelmed to see him alive, if worse for the wear, and Edgeworth…
...he can’t even find words for the feeling.
The celebration is shortlived, though, as Phoenix is dragged off to the witness lobby in short order to prep him for testimony.  For all that the prosecution seems to believe he’ll help them, though, Nick gives them absolutely nothing, and instead confirms that he received a call from Edgeworth that evening, and while they were on the phone two strangers came into the office just before he was shot.  They dragged him down to the street and threw him in the trunk of a car, then drove to the river and threw him in; most importantly, though, he remembers one of them asking what to do with the case, and another saying they would dump it at the club where it would blend right in; police are immediately dispatched there and find a bloody trombone case (since they’d thrown it into the trunk before loading Nick in) with a rifle inside.
The motive?  Everyone knows the Demon Prosecutor’s reputation, and they knew that they’d all go down if he tried the case on their buddy.  The enmity between prosecutors and defense attorneys is well known, though, and in particular they knew that Wright had broken Edgeworth’s old record and it had never recovered; they figured it would be easy to frame him for the murder with the right set-up.  They had a small window of opportunity while Wright and Edgeworth worked through their trial, and they used it to put all their pieces in place, expecting that Edgeworth would go down and they’d all get off when a less competent prosecutor inevitably got their friend’s case.  Clearly, though, that backfired on them: they’re all taken away, and Edgeworth is declared Not Guilty.  Cue fanfare and confetti!
...and that’s where the fallout begins.
While Miles is taken to get things squared away with his release from detention, Phoenix is taken back to the hospital because honestly he should not have left in the first place.  The man was admitted with a collapsed lung.  It’s frankly a wonder he even managed to stand, let alone raise that objection.  His recovery takes a while, and Maya and Pearl are frequent visitors...but so is Miles, much to his surprise.  Only it’s not a good surprise for him, given what he’d been planning to say on the night he got shot.  Things feel awkward, and all the more for how Miles is acting...different.  Not like his usual self.  Phoenix doesn’t know what it is or if he likes it, but he’s too tired to complain since it’s not bothering him, and visiting hours are relatively short since the prosecutor is still working cases.
Given what happened to him, though, the doctor recommends that Phoenix should stay with someone once he’s discharged: his condition, while improved, could deteriorate rapidly if something happens, so it’s imperative to have someone else around in case of an emergency.  Maya and Pearl are still going back and forth between the city and Kurain semi-frequently, though, and he wouldn’t want to impose on them, especially since Pearls has been thinking about attending school in the city rather than just getting her medium training...but though he doesn’t even consider Edgeworth as a possibility, the prosecutor immediately volunteers when he hears: he has more than enough vacation time accrued and the chief prosecutor hounds him regularly about needing to take some, so he can be on hand for whatever Wright might need.
This does not, in fact, reassure Phoenix.
It’s okay enough at first, if only because Nick is just too tired and hurts too much to think about it or care about much beyond finding a comfortable position to sleep in and figuring out how to breathe without it making his chest feel like it’s full of broken glass.  But as he starts improving, the tension slowly ratchets up, because Phoenix still doesn’t understand why Miles volunteered for this and the only possible explanations he can think of aren’t really good (most involve having him in the prosecutor’s debt, which is not what he wants).  Miles, meanwhile, isn’t aware of this tension at first...but gradually he becomes more and more aware of the silence around Phoenix.  It was understandable at first, because he was fresh out of the hospital and still recovering, but the longer it goes on the more noticeable it becomes, and he knows it means something but he doesn’t know what to do about it.
Eventually, though, it all does come out, because Miles finally broaches the subject of his own accord by asking Phoenix what he’d been planning to say that night: he’d said he can’t do “this” anymore, but he never said what “this” is.  And even though he’s aware that nothing is likely to cme of it, Phoenix explains exactly what his problem is and has been for so long: the one-sided relationship where he’s the one doing all the work and making all the concessions and getting none of his own needs met in return.  It’s exhausting, and he can’t do it anymore.  And rather than fighting or arguing the point, Miles -- who has never had a relationship like this before -- asks what needs Phoenix has, and how can he meet them.  He concedes the point, he admits that he’s been in the wrong and needs to change, and asks for help figuring out where to start -- because he came so close this time to losing Phoenix permanently, and that realization scares him more than he can say.
Phoenix is pretty well dumbstruck.  But he recognizes, too, that this isn’t easy for Miles.  He’s reaching out, he’s trying...and even though Nick had intended to cut his losses that night in his office before everything went so wrong, he decides to give this one last shot.
And when Miles listens to what he says, and actively responds and adjusts...he can’t help hoping that this turnabout will end up well.

Rose is Liveblog 2020: Steven Universe Future
Rose is Liveblog 2020 Masterlist
Lion hasn’t shown up much yet in Future, but if he’s Rose that’ll likely be the business of an episode or two down the road.
Rose Buds
Lion has a cameo at the very end. It plays some suspensful music that sounds like a leitmotif I don’t recognize (I’m not good at the music but I know there’s lore involved), shows the empty space where the portrait was:
Tumblr media
Note it was next to Cat Steven’s, who Lion has been shown napping with a few times.
Tumblr media
Then a pic of Steven in bed with Lion sleeping at the foot.
Steven does mention him earlier when talking to the Roses, but he doesn’t appear before that. End of video. I also have some non-Lion (or Lion adjacent really) meta for you since this is a Rose lore episode.
Tumblr media
I’ll happily go either way on her, but let’s talk Shy Rose.
A meta take/theory on this episode: If the portrait being gone has more than one meaning, maybe Rose's astral projection state has changed too? Thought: Rose no longer possessing Lion? Ergo Rose really is Shy Rose after all?
Edit: I believe this now, based on thoughts from this liveblog. Shy Rose is Rose Theory Post here
It would be interesting if she is - like she’d made herself a Rose Quartz gem?  (Ethically I would prefer if Rose had like made an “empty” gemstone and is not hijacking another living thinking gem’s body for her own purposes, so we’ll see what comes of her. Is that even possible?) She did want to fit right in and play with the Amethysts. It’s not impossible she tried to find another way to do that while making a kindergarten of Rose Quartzes for her cover story. Or maybe the others were part of the process of finding the right appearance. After all, she’s the only one we’ve seen who looks exactly like Pearl’s OC - there aren’t even any others with curly hair. And the Crystal Gem Rose would be nervous to meet Steven, startled to see the others, concerned about Pearl, concerned about Steven, & she would have sworn she “wouldn’t talk about this”. All consistent, it’s still possible. If Shy Rose isn’t Rose, she’s just an emotionally intelligent stranger who’s hyper-aware of how much she looks like Rose. If she is Rose, this is like...idk...Rose nervously in the secret OC body, maybe wanting to talk to him, maybe playing it safe first to see how they react, weighing the idea of yet another false life...maybe scared to do it or not sure how. This would be a good setup for Steven corrupting honestly, if that’s gonna happen, or at least whatever mom issues-induced total meltdown Future has been building to. Yeah I still buy it. And then this:
Tumblr media
Please don't leave like this! I'm really sorry. It's not like I don't like you or don't want you here. It's just that you look so much like her; like my Mom. I thought I was ready to move on and not have her hanging over me anymore, but I can barely be in a room with you because I still feel all twisted up about her.
Since Steven specifically mentions her appearance is triggering, both about Shy Rose personally and not the others, maybe that makes her hesitate to tell him the truth further. And he says he’s trying to put his mom behind him.
Tumblr media
Shy Rose looks down for a second when he says he feels all twisted up about her. In this lighting, her coloration is more like Rose’s, too. Could be a guilty conscience. Steven also says something important if this is a Lion/Rose hearing about Steven’s struggles moment:
I've been pretending that I'm fine because it's not your fault, but I'm not fine.
he admits he’s not ok. He still hasn’t done this to the Crystal Gems as of Prickly Pair, even though it’s clear, but he did tell the Roses. And if this is Rose, then some of his problems are actually her fault.
Ofc what Shy Rose says at the end seems to indicate she’s not Rose:
Your mom created us too, and got us all bubbled, just for being Rose Quartzes.
At the same time... not only is that a true statement, if she’s Rose, both talking about her own former identity with scorn & being mad at Rose Quartz is still characterization consistent with Rose Quartz; she was down on herself in We Need to Talk and during the rebellion she told gems like Garnet and Bismuth stories about how terrible Pink Diamond was... so ok, I’ll bite. It would add a layer to all her reactions in the ep if that’s so. I’d love if Shy Rose is in fact her own person and showed up again so we could see another side to her though, because looking like Rose is an interesting dilemma.

Bending and Gems
I have a real craving to play some OC in the Legend of Korra/AltA 'verse- I have a Tired Spy, a young and eager Quester, a non-bending vigilante (with fire nation heritage, in his mid-thirties), a crystal-bending older lady (who runs a jewellery store), and a bloodbending cripple (who has a past with the Red Monsoons, but now only uses his ability to let himself walk.) For the full list, go here.
Besides that, I do have a Zaheer, a Bolin, Eska and Desna, Tonraq, Korra, and Zuko (at any stage in life for the last one.) I very much prefer NOT TO GO CANON/OC, I'm really sorry. It's the kind of thing I'm just not all that into and if you need it, then you might want to look elsewhere, sorry ^^;;
--
ALSO - SO THAT STEVEN UNIVERSE MOVIE. THAT SURE WAS A THING HUH :D
I thought this would be a really good time to put forward my Gem OCs again! I would really love to expand some more on the post-steven Universe (lol), with focus on human/Gem relations? Like, maybe there was an official thing of human politicians sent to Home world, or more upper-crust gems visiting or fleeing to earth when they hear its a more liberal colony than they've been used to?
This happens each time there's good SU episodes, and you must be up to date for the most recent episodes because I wanna scream about them. Anyways, I have a Citrine footsoldier - young and rash and over-eager to be a hero - a Mistake (Druzy Quartz, if you catch that drift) as well as a Sapphire bureaucrat and her Seed Pearl, who hates and loves and longs all in all in all.
Oh, and a Botswana Agate who has been trapped in a sword for a very, very long time, waiting for some human archaeologist to find and free them accidentally :) It's a long story, and one worth telling if you're in the least interested.
Also, if you have original ideas about Gem physiology and makeup, I would love to hear them. (Suffice to say I mislike some fandom ideas about them conforming to the human idea of 'female', put it that way :/)
Boring stuff ahead!
As to myself, I'm Mal, and I'm a 30 year old transdude  living in the UK!
This is a bit of a long shot, but what I ideally need is someone's who's willing to work at my lopsided and admittedly bizarre pace. Short, intense bursts of RPing between 1-4 days, followed by weeks or months worth of low contact or even radio silence.
I know that seems like I've ghosted when that happens, but my particular brand of brainweirdness means that even if I appear to vanish, if we really clicked and the RP was going well, then worst case scenario is that I've just run into a wall and either can't articulate why or how my spoons have evaporated again.
If you're still interested and if all that didn’t sour you on contacting me, you can either -
Or Skype - lilacsofthedead (Please mention where you found my handle in your contacting message, because I don’t tend to add people automatically.)
You can also IM me on tumblr (same as my Skype) but I tend to only rp via email or gdocs. I love getting to know new partners though, so please feel free to message me. I think I have discord, but for whatever reason the whole program rubs me wrong. Maybe it’s the design? I dunno, it just doesn’t work well for me.
Anyways, here’s hoping, and otherwise, good hunting!

you like homestuck? why not try ___
(reblogs > likes, if you read this all and think to yourself that you should check out one of the things i talked about then why not reblog and share with others?)
hiya so ain’t a normal post for this blog, think of it like a youtube video but text (i’d make this a video but i don’t have a good mic & idk how to edit), anyways this is a start to a series of posts i’ll sometimes make, the point of this series is to point some fandoms at other pieces of work like the thing that fandom likes, so like in this post i’ll talk about other pieces of work that homestuck fans might like
anyways most of the post is under the cut cause it might be a long but i’ll show the 1st 2 that way you can see if you like my reasoning, also i haven’t seen every piece of media ever so i might miss some things so feel to add in a reblog
(also the numbers i use aren’t to show the quality, it’s just what came to mind 1st)
1: borderlands
Tumblr media
ok tbh this game is why i made this post, this game series has a lot of the same kinds of humour (though borderlands doesn’t to what i can recall have any ablest jokes or the stuff like that), it’s a very fun game  series even for those who most of the time don’t like shooters as it’s kinda like what would happen if overwatch’s fun shooting mechanics had a baby with diablo 2‘s skill trees
the story is really great, taking a lot of cues(and names) from greek legends, also a hot tip, you really don’t need to play the 1st game, just start at borderlands 2 then go to pre sequel and then tales from the borderlands and you should be fine
also there are quite a few lgbtq+ characters (including a canon lesbian relationship that can end in marriage, i say can as it’s a part of a game where what you say and do can have things end in other ways), and there is also a lot of room for oc making as it takes place in it;s very own world that has a lot of things no other story really has
2: Undertale/Deltarune
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok you most likely know about at least Undertale but hey this is my post and i get to add what i want. anyways Undertale’s story is this: once a upon a time monsters and humans both lived above the ground but one day a war started, humans with their determination sealed the monsters deep beneath Mount Ebott, creating a barrier only a human soul could pass, one day a child climbs Mount Ebott and falls into the undergrond, the way this tale ends is up to the player
ok so there are quite a few characters that you get to know well, they all have backstorys that are quite the tales, there is canon lgbtq+ characters (including a canon relationship with two of the woman characters, a non binary protag and trans coded characters),
it’s also a very funny game and the story is one of the best story's i’ve ever heard, also if you like the music of homestuck then you’re gonna love this game’s music as it was made by toby fox (some of his songs from homestuck are: Black, Descend, Savior of the Waking World, MeGaLoVania, ect)
now Deltarune isn’t a full game yet and only chapter 1 is out rn but if you’ve already played Undertale then give this a go
3: My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
ok so a lot of you already know about this anime but i still feel i should about it. So the show’s plot is about a world where most people have superpowers called Quirks, the main character (named Izuku Midoriya) has the dream of be coming a superhero like his role model All Might but he has a problem: he was born without a Quirk, the show has him slowly learn how to be a hero, make new friends and fight evil
there are a lot of characters so if you liked the bigger cast size of homestuck then this will be great. the fights are very well done and the super powers are well done, there is also a lot of room to make oc’s so if you liked making oc’s this show should be great for you
you can find this wherever you stream/watch anime
4: danganronpa
Tumblr media
did you like the murder in homestuck? wish there was more and it was somehow more nuts? well then these games (plus anime and book or two) are for you!
the 1st game story is this: you are Makoto Naegi, a student of Hope's Peak Academy, who finds himself trapped in a game of mutual killing among his peers, in Hope's Peak Academy everyone is some kind of Ultimate (of skills or things like being a robot), Makoto Naegi is the Ultimate Lucky Student witch is a Ultimate given out in a lottery
the games have a lot of unique characters and a story about as messed up as homestuck, there are also canon lgbtq+ characters but for the most part most are only coded (and the ones that are canon don’t uh really get any happy endings), also due the whole Ultimate thing there’s a lot of room for oc making
here’s the order that you’ll wanna use (bolded means you need to see or else later things won’t make sense anything else is just a plus): Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc > Makoto Naegi Secret File > Danganronpa Kirigiri (may not be canon) >  Danganronpa: Togami (not canon, also just save yourself from wasting time and don’t read it, it sucks) > Danganronpa 2: Goodby Dispair >  Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc IF (non canon) >  Danganronpa Zero >  Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls > Ultra Despair Hagakure > Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy (there are two different complimentary series. The idea is that you alternate between the two of them starting with Side Future, then Side Despair so your order would be F1, D1, F2, D2, etc...)  > Super Danganronpa 2.5 > Danganronpa Gaiden: Killer Killer > anything else to do with the main danganronpa universe > Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony (not canon to the rest of the games, it is it’s own verse)
5: steven universe
Tumblr media
so i’m sure most of you have heard of this but it’s really good so it’s worth sharing, here’s the plot: The Crystal Gems are a team of magical beings who are the self-appointed guardians of the universe. Half-human, half-Gem hero Steven is the "little brother" of the group. The goofball is learning to save the world using the magical powers that come from his bellybutton and he goes on magical adventures with the rest of the Crystal Gems, even though he's not as powerful -- or smart -- as fellow group members Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Despite his shortcomings, Steven usually finds a surprising way to save the day.
this show has so many lgbtq+ characters that if i tried i wouldn’t be able to list them all, there is so much room to make oc’s if you can think of a type of gem then you got a gemsona idea buddy cuz any gem can be a character and the story is really great
6: the adventure zone
Tumblr media
ok so this one is a tabletop rpg podcast, so far there has been two main campaigns though one is still on going, the 1st one is called The Balance Arc it’s the campaign that was for d&d and so far is the only main campaign to be over as it has a ending (though they sometimes still do live shows set in the campaign), it’s also the one you should must likely start with, then the  2nd main campaign is called: Amnesty it uses the monster of the week rpg and is on going, this podcast is hosted by the McElroys
here’s what campaign 1 can be summed up as: The story of four idiots that played DnD so hard that they made themselves cry.
here’s a fan-made trailer for The Balance Arc
youtube
7: critical role
Tumblr media
another d&d show! yeah i know but this one and the last one are very very different, for one everyone in this show knows how to play d&d, anyways this is a web series in which a group of professional voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons, that is played live every Thursday. There are two campaigns, one of them is over while the other is on going, both are already very long so you better have some free time on your hands
if you do watch then be ready to cry at least once
8: 17776
Tumblr media
ok so uh this one is a bit odd, it’s on the shorter side os things and is a serialized speculative fiction multimedia narrative by Jon Bois published online through SB Nation, it’s odd but from what i know it’s good
9: paranatural
Tumblr media
a webcomic that is made by the same person that made summerteen romance (y’know from Paradox Space?) anyways the comic follows the story of Max, the new kid at school, and the other members of the Activity Club as they fight ghosts, investigate the secrets of Mayview, and interact with their fellow middle school students
it’s a fun webcomic that has characters that you end up really wanting to learn more about
10: young justice
Tumblr media
so this show is a pertty good way to get into the dc fandom, you don’t need to know much of the lore of the main dc verse as a lot of the stuff isn’t quite the same in the show so need to worry if your not the must into comics, the story is about the the teenage team of superheroes as they save the world as well as deal with normal daily life issues
it’s a fun show that can make you cry really fast, that goes from light hearted to dark very quick and isn’t afraid to kill off a characters

How do you create OCs without making them first on wizard101? I find it very hard to make new OCs besides the ONE on wizzy because I don't have them "made" on the game (or leveled up, for that matter). I find it really hard and I hate being a perfectionist about it o;
Short answer: idk lol
Long answer: I don’t know haha
Answer that gives actual information: Let’s see if I can make this shorter than a river, shall we? (Spoiler, I can’t. This answer is one thousand words long.)
You may have seen me post an out-of-context metaphor a moment ago: characters are pearls. Pearls, as you probably know, are formed when an irritant, sometimes a grain of sand, gets into an oyster. The oyster coats it with layers of goop, the goop hardens, and then humans find it and go Ooh, shiny. Pearls don’t pop out of nowhere. Characters also don’t pop out of nowhere. You build them around something.
In-game characters don’t work very well for me as that sand grain, because not many of the attributes apply to my universe or my story (for instance, levels aren’t a thing, non-human characters are, and many of my OCs are adults), and there’s no personality to them, they just go with the plot, and their backstory is “Ambrose plucked them out of thin air.” I don’t understand how people make OCs out of them, but obviously they do, and fabulously at that.
I use other things. I have a janitor I named after a type of cell, because that type of cell acts like a janitor. I have a supergod I named after our galaxy supercluster. I’m in the middle of reblogging a lot of tag-your-OC posts to a sideblog to draw ideas from. Hat Lord started as a literal joke, then became an imaginary friend, and I don’t know how av got into AGP. The alternate universe Sabrina Greenstars also started as a joke.
Sometimes I just need a character somewhere, so one shows up (have a library? Have a librarian). Sometimes I try to figure out who my background characters are, and they become people (your character has bumped into someone, who are they? Why were they there? Why weren’t they looking where they were going?). Speaking of background characters, try to make them recur (AGP has a scene where Eth is walking down a side street and sees a person, Feef, and later when Talon and Iridian are asking if anyone has seen Eth, Feef is who replies “yes”).
As for personalities, I write. This may be why I’ve been having trouble lately. My characters lack depth, so I don’t write, so my characters lack depth. Do you see my problem?
Anyway, I go into waaaaay too much detail in my story. I sometimes call it ‘scenery porn’ because I just have to describe every single tiny thing Eth sees. This means I add random actions to new characters, because otherwise you would hardly notice they were there in between the descriptions of the wallpaper, the scent of spices, and exactly which spices they might be, the creaking of the floorboards, etc., ad nauseam. And then I read way too much into them. Did they doodle something in their notebook? They’re an artist. Were they humming? Musician. Were they throwing shade? Ooh, there’s a lot you could do with that. And make sure to ask a ton of followup questions.
I also find that there’s a fine balance between boredom and Mary Suedom. My main (and viewpoint) character has brown hair, brown eyes, and is only one inch away from the average height for her race and gender. She listens to popular music, doesn’t dress too outlandishly, and has pretty common career aspirations. That said, she’s mute, so not entirely the average template. But most importantly, you see her personality. She has thoughts and opinions and makes decisions on her own, she’s not just shunted around by the plot. She’s also not a perfect angel. Some of her decisions are stupid, or vindictive.
I think having a relatively average main character is a good idea. I’m always wary of stories where the main character shows up already knowing loads of magic, or being old friends with the Drakes, or being Super Snarky and mouthing off at Cyrus, and of course having silver hair and purple eyes and never-before-seen powers. Tread carefully if you decide to do these.
For side characters, I find average doesn’t work. I already have a story for my main, it’s this one, so I need something else interesting for the others. Don’t be afraid to give them weird backstories and reasons for doing things. For instance, I just saw a prompt (that I am going to use, so I say this at some risk) for a character who learned to draw photorealistically because they were the only witness to a major crime, and they couldn’t describe the perpetrator.
Background characters are background characters, and you probably shouldn’t put too much thought into them unless you need more mains or sides, or you risk cluttering your story. (Pffhahaha look who’s talking.)
Back to your original question, though, and getting it answered: You do need something to build on, but if you’re trying to build on something other than what you’re used to, you’ll have to make an effort at it. It won’t happen by itself.
Other pointers: Try to figure out where there would be a person. Has your character been thrust into a new place with nobody they know (like Wysteria, perhaps)? They’ll likely try to make friends, or at least allies. Does your character go to a coffeeshop? If they’re the outgoing type, they might chat with the barista. Is there somewhere your character isn’t supposed to be? There’s probably a guard.
One place to start other characters would be, as I said, tag-your-OC blogs.
Here is Springhole. Read it. All of it. It also has good random generators, many of which are for the express purpose of being sand grains.
Here are some other generators I like, but most are just for names.
Here is a character prompt blog I like, and I’m sure you can find more with that handy little search bar on the top left of your screen.
