Ochako is Different

(Current Chapter Spoilers) It’s a little early to make this but I had to.

‘If Toga still wants to talk to her, she’s willing to give her her own blood for the rest of her life.’

“I want to talk about love with you, himiko-chan!”

‘She won’t support everything she does from now on’

‘The world isn’t ideal (comfortable?) for people like her’

It’s almost exactly what I wanted, but it’s still totally perfect.

This Chapter is great for Toga and Ochako, and perfect for Ochako’s development.

In fact I’d say that this puts Ochako over the top of what’s been shown to be heroic in bnha.

Because while Ochako doesn’t really side with Toga fully, which is understandable from her point of view but she does pretty much say that Toga won’t be killed or locked up to rot because of the promise she makes to her.

This implies a long term plan/commitment and freedom, the first part obviously stated that neither Ochako or Toga herself want her death and the second part because there’s no way Toga would ever accept such a thing from inside a cage.

“Living Free” being an essential part of Toga’s character that wouldn’t just be ignored and doesn’t seem to be on Ochako’s viewpoint, with her saying:  ‘She won’t support everything she does from now on’

“From now on” implying Toga will have the freedom to choose.

This answer from a hero to a villain might really change things, or at least have the intent to change beginning here.

Ochako’s answer feels big enough for that, not only in her direct relationship with Toga but also on a much wider scale in her clearly stating that: The World isn’t ideal/comfortable for people like Toga.

This along with everything else she said makes her the best Hero in this series.

Even out of the Core Three Heroes.

Shoto Todoroki, a good, focused Hero, succeeding in everything he set out to do in bnha’s story, and also succeeded in becoming exactly the type of hero he wanted to be.

Be a Hero that puts others at ease? Nailed it.

Be like his friends who get mad and shed tears for others? Got it.

Protect his family and others? Even Dabi in a way? Total Victory.

A Perfect Score for Shoto, also his family, and all the innocent people that he saved.

But that’s it.

Shoto still hasn’t taken any kind of wider view on Dabi/Endeavor/his family or hero society, even though he’s had more than enough time to think about it.

He never came to the larger realization that: “Hmm, actually the fact that Endeavor was able to buy Mom like a broodmare, consult with doctors plainly about his intentions regarding his children, have one of them literally die, another be clearly scarred and his wife sent to a mental institution and yet despite all that…no one (Hero/Government/Civilian) says or does shit…that might be a problem too?”

Shoto is definitely a Hero; he’s just not quite seeing the big picture when he really needs to.

Deku on the other hand isn’t even close.

Because while he does inspire others, he has yet to actually help them himself.

Gentle criminal, Lady Nagant and Overhaul are all ‘Villains’ that Deku has interacted with and changed but, when talking about direct actions, he never helped any of them or even acknowledged their negative points about hero society other than giving a single platitude.

Gentle Criminal had heroic aspirations from the start, despite being hurt multiple times by hero society; he still chose to do the right thing.

Whether or not that really works out for him in the end is yet to be seen but he still did it, and on his own.

Deku never tried to help Gentle or even find out what happened to him or La Brava after their fight, despite emphasizing with him and their struggles.

Nagant was in some way, like Gentle, inspired by Deku, just in her case it was taken to a somewhat unbelievable degree.

“Extend a helping Hand” is not an answer to the fact that hero society was assassinating innocent people who threatened the status quo.

But Nagant is fighting on the hero side now so I guess it was answer enough for her.

But from a wider story perspective Deku didn’t address anything.

Overhaul is one of the darkest villains in the series, with what he did to Eri.

But Deku still made him a promise, to bring Overhaul to his ‘Father’ (figure) if he was willing to regret what he did.

He didn’t.

I mean, if we had jumped right into the next war in only a few moments after this point then I would understand Deku not having enough time to make good on his word but there was a lot of down time in-between.

Was Deku actually serious about the no-armed cripple Overhaul having to regret his actions before he was taken to see his comatose Father?

That’s kind of messed up when you really think about it.

Was Deku planning on doing it anyway, just at some undetermined point in the Future?

We don’t know, it was never brought up again.

It makes anything that Deku’s going to say to Shigaraki seem a bit Hollow because there’s no past foundation to hold up his word to, on a personal or societal level.

Vague promises on top of other promises that haven’t been fulfilled is not a good look for a Hero.

While it is true that this may change later, it may lack impact and believable commitment, coming in a bit late on Shoto’s part and with Deku’s loyalty to hero society at odds with everything Shigaraki is.

But Ochako isn’t like that.

Ochako

She recognized that there was a problem (though eventually) after seeing clear signs of it and looked at everything involved.

Toga’s Quirk and her tears, how she felt about love and the world around her.

Also with her experience in dealing with the “innocent” people at UA high and how they treated Deku.

Have to believe that too had an effect on her decision and reasoning to try to understand Toga, in how she was made a villain currently.

She may not really understand Toga in everything, but Ochako is still saying all the right things, addressing what she knows about Toga and how society has treated her.

No other hero has done that yet and followed through.

Because Ochako didn’t just say: “You have a point, but you know morality.” Then try to punch Toga in the face or overpower her into submission.

She said: “You have a point, but you know morality, so I will personally help you in the way you need.”

Immediately trying to do just that and saying she’ll continue to in the future.

‘If Toga still wants to talk to her, she’s willing to give her her (Ochako’s) own blood for the rest of her life.’

That’s a Hero. And what a real Hero would do.

It really was just that simple of someone offering her Blood, that specific someone showing that they cared and telling Toga that she wasn’t a monster or a deviant.

And Toga accepting Ochako’s feelings would make sense as this is everything she ever wanted-

BUT-

The only hang up is how Ochako would then deal with Hero Society after this, because they are definitely not going to be on board with her choice, even though it’s part of the only option/path forward that could save their world.

And with the inherent flaws/corruption in the hero system and the Quirk Singularity, Ochako’s choice is undeniably the start of the only path that could save bnha’s world.

So yeah Ochako is actually doing Amazing so far.

MHA417 Thoughts

Cw: Discussion of spoilers, please be warned.

Everything about it is just chef's kiss. From the title that's just a name yet ominous; what we see in Tomura's world.

The appearance of Dark Deku, Stain, Re-Destro, and Overhaul blocking Deku is so important, imo.

All of them (yes, including Dark Deku) are from Tomura's memories, so in a way, I believe they're Tomura's last remaining safeguards trying to prevent Deku from seeing his heart/inner child.

Dark Deku tries to tell Deku that there is no point of doing this because he is a "hero" who is here to vanquish the "villain" (Tomura)

Re-Destro/Stain presses on to asks Deku why he is doing this of all things

Overhaul points out that Deku has no plan, only that he is moving forward and nothing concrete to do afterward

Kind of reminds me of the ghosts from the Christmas carol lol

And what's so interesting, and just makes my heart ache, is when Deku opens the door and we see the picture of Kotaro and Nana. It's almost as if Tomura is trying to tell Deku that "nothing went wrong, I'm just an evil villain, there is nothing wrong about me." And I'm glad that Deku pushed on, with Nana, because now begins unveiling layers of generational trauma inflicted on Tenko.

Not just from Nana, which all starts from Nana abandoning Kotaro, but also from All For One losing his brother and taking Tomura in as some kind of substitute for Yoichi.

(Note: If I read those speech bubbles correctly, Nana insisted that Kotaro was not 'abandoned.' And yes, I get it, Nana was forced to put Kotaro away for his own safety. But regardless of the intention, that is really what Nana did. And, despite her intentions, it cost problems to Kotaro and his family)

(Also note: I know that AFO's intention of taking Tomura was not really to take him as a substitute for Yoichi. He is, in many ways, a pragmatic villain: Tomura was the next him, or rather, his next body. And if Tomura failed, he had back-up plans in line. But, AFO is also, in many ways, a sentimental villain. I really think the way he raised Tomura -- the way Tomura dressed, spent his free time with games, dressed, looked like -- was heavily influenced with the way he raised Yoichi. And there's that weird name of Tomura (弔）being a few radicals away from 'younger brother' (弟) )

Chapter 417 is now an introduction to the Shimura family past. I hope we now see more of Tenko's past (mayperhaps name the next chapter as "Tenko"? So chaps 417 and 418 titles can be read as "Shimura Tenko")

I think that's important, especially for Deku. He is now beginning to understand the Shimura family pain and how it affected Tenko. But I also want to see Deku see Tenko lose control and kill his family. Because if not, Tenko/Tomura would've been an easy villain to empathize, wouldn't he?

More importantly, I want to see Deku see Tenko spend days trying to get help before AFO arrived, just to drive the point of Tomura's hatred for current hero society. Why didn't no one reached out and helped him? Why were the people around him, knowing and seeing that he needed help, deferred the responsibility to the heroes of helping him when they clearly could, in some shape or form? Sure, the destruction of hero society was something that was influenced by AFO, as the only solution to the problem that Tomura faced.

Now, it's up to Deku to see this problem, acknowledge this problem, and as a hero, find another way to move forward with Tomura.

(Additionally I want to see more LoV moments in Tomura's memories lol. I feel like Tomura's memories will be a rollercoaster for Deku - he'll see things where Deku would empathize and want to protect Tenko from; then he'll see fucked up shit that will make him question his empathy to Tenko; then he'll see moments humanizing Tomura; then moments that would make Deku see Tomura's capabilities as a villain. And throughout this time, Tomura will be adamant not wanting to be viewed as anything else than the Symbol of Fear that he is, and so justifying that he must be killed he hates himself there is no way he hates everything without hating himself)

Hi, hello, I still exist though my blog upkeep would say otherwise. It's been a minute. That's really sweet that you 1) thought of me and 2) wanted to check in. I start to type up something about last year but keep abandoning it because how do you casually introduce that to people's timelines?

So, yeah, ripping off the Band-Aid (putting behind a read-more in case of triggers):

Someone tried to kill me. Well, not just someone, a now-former housemate who I thought was a friend. I still don't understand what lead to it and I don't know if I ever will, because they swing between "nothing happened" and "but if something did, it's her fault" (the O.J. defense). They were removed kicking and screaming from the house by police, and a provisional APVO was served that night with the provision that they must not come within 50 metres of any place where I live or work. It's already had a few court mentions, which I didn't have to attend, but an actual hearing has been adjourned to my birthday this year (happy fucking birthday to me) upon which I expect i'll be called to give my evidence. Charges include: Armed with intent to commit serious indictable offense, destroy/damage property, intimidation, common assault, and intentional choking. They're pleading not guilty on the grounds of mental health, but pull the other one. They had awareness and intent, and the ability to understand the events and make different choices in real-time - such as putting down the knife and saying to the other housemate who was trying to keep me safe, "The only reason i'm not killing her is because you're here".

They tracked down CC (after i'd shared that shit heap of a situation with them) to try and dig for dirt to use against me. They sent the other housemate messages and accusations through her via text for a few months, until the other housemate moved out and blocked them on everything. Some continued willful actions.

Once the property recovery order was finally sorted, they sent a family member and their partner to collect their belongings, and it became obvious rather quickly that they have not been honest with anyone about what they did. The fact that they refused my initial proposal of having a mutual friend do the collection supports that. Not that them acknowledging it would provide any kind of validation or resolution - they've bent over backwards to avoid taking responsibility for themselves since i've known them. But it's that which worries me re: how the hearings could go. I have to prepare myself for the likelihood that they won't face any natural consequences for their actions. The mentions so far have been more concerned with their wellbeing than mine. I haven't been contacted by anyone in months. If it eventuates that they get to go on their merry way, i'm not sure yet how I would respond.

At least the Department of Justice has been amazing, approving an Immediate Needs Support Package to fund a complete security overhaul for the premises. My GP also referred me to a psychologist while the local Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service applied to VOCAL (Victims of Crime Assistance League) on my behalf, though nothing's come of that yet. [EDIT: I just called to follow up and they seem to have lost me in the system, which is awesome but they can't all be winners.]

I wasn't seriously injured, thankfully, besides a chunk of my hair being pulled out (and subsequent blood) and cuts and bruises around my body.

As for my mental health, i'm...okay, I guess. That I knew I needed to quickly access support to mitigate development of PTSD probably saved me from being much worse. I had panic attacks and would replay the event like a video over and over for the first few months after it happened. I have occasional moments when I have trouble dealing with it and get real hard on myself, wishing they'd finished me off. But those moments, thankfully, do pass. Maintaining connection with friends and family, as a means of navigating the trauma recovery, hasn't been easy in recent months (will cover it in another post) but in fighting against my old instinct of avoiding asking for help, it serves as a reminder that there are places and people I can still trust and feel safe around. I've basically treated myself like a client and thought, "Ignore the lies your brain is trying to feed you - what would your best self do right now?"

I survived. I'm continuing to survive. That's the big takeaway.

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

I think that a lot of the big reveals in Code Geass, especially after the midpoint, aren’t as fun as the earlier ones.

As far as BNHA goes, though… I actually think 1-A’s speech to Izuku when he’s running from them and subsequent shepherding is just a little too cheesy for me. I still like it overall, but there is something that weirds me out about that many people going to support one other person in this way. It’s the same part of me that squirms at some forms of PDA.

I also got bored during the final stretch of fight in the Overhaul arc, particularly Mirio’s fight.

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

MY FAVORITE PARTS OF YUGIOH ARE THE FIRST FIVE VOLUMES. I also loved the season zero fillers, though we could argue about how “canon” or not they are.

For BNHA, um. The things that get on my nerves that people ignore isn’t fandom-wide, but more notorious in certain subgroups. It’s hard to name just one thing that I see across spaces off the top of my head.

But if I had to choose something that personally drives me the MOST insane when people don’t acknowledge it, it’s this: Katsuki and Izuku love each other. Period, the end. It isn’t “gay”, it isn’t “straight”, it isn’t “NOT gay”, and it isn’t “NOT straight”. It just is.

Related - the fandom needs to get talking about the absolutely boggling amounts of idealized potential father-figure projecting Izuku does on Katsuki without acknowledging it because he can, much like he does with most of his admiration, believably pin it all on All Might instead and have nobody question it unless they look a little harder.

C’mon, y’all, I know Bakudeku in any capacity isn’t seen as PROBLEMATIQUE as it used to be, but it’s time to get back into the spirit of going bloody-knuckled into stories that explore the presence of love despite (or even because of) some unsavory shit (from a western perspective, anyway. It’s more ambiguous from other perspectives, I think.)

The fringe never stopped being an education for me. When I was starting to write hourlong shows of my own, I went to see Bridget Christie and realised everything I was doing was shit and needed to be overhauled. I have watched shows by contemporaries, such as my ex-flatmate turned sitcom superstar Rose Matafeo, the sketch masters Lazy Susan and the genius/serial award-loser James Acaster, that reminded me why I fell in love with comedy.

When I hosted Edinburgh Nights for the BBC in 2018 and 2019, I was even forced to watch things that weren’t comedy. I saw Rachael Young marry live music, dance and Afrofuturism in Nightclubbing, a show that paid homage to Grace Jones. I saw Pussy Riot and was fortunate enough to interview them, where I was informed that they hadn’t been smuggled out of Russia to perform at the festival, as reported in the press, but had travelled “by unicorn”.

When I wasn’t watching shows, I was performing; learning how to be a comedian, step by excruciating step. In 2010 and 2011, I performed in a sketch double act with Tom Neenan. We were called the Gentlemen of Leisure and the show was a parody of The Culture Show on BBC Two and was exactly as financially profitable as it sounds. But we learned a huge amount about joke-writing and the partnership ended up with Tom becoming my partner in crimes against comedy on various radio shows and The Mash Report.

Meanwhile, I was doing standup on the Free Fringe, where the audience members aren’t charged, but can offer a donation to the performers on leaving the venue. The aim is for the donation to be in cash, but we were often compensated in old playing cards, flyers for our own show and bits of string. Still, these were formative experiences, performing on 25 consecutive days, accelerating my development more than months of infrequent gigging on the open mic circuit in London possibly could.

At times, it can feel as though defending the fringe is morally indefensible, like eating meat or supporting Manchester United. Landlords have been encouraging students to stay in their flats in August, leading to a shortage of properties and driving up prices. The Fringe Society was forced to launch a drive to find Edinburgh residents who would be willing to rent properties to performers for less than £280 a person a week. Some performers are staying out of town in caravans or on campsites.

Meanwhile, the Fringe Society is facing criticism for scrapping its app, a valuable tool for performers to direct audiences to their shows, sell more tickets and hopefully mitigate some of those astronomical rents.

The fringe is supposed to be a place where performers can come to experiment and evolve. However, it is turning into a playground for those born wealthy – like Monaco, but with more people who went to clown school.

It has been heading this way for years – and I am not exactly an example to the contrary. I grew up middle class and went to a fancy university that subsidised my first two trips here. More significantly, when I started doing solo standup shows, my first three were paid for by a management company. At the time, the going rate for a solo show (including venue hire, accommodation and PR costs) was about £10,000. I was performing in venues that were so small that even if I had sold every single ticket I would still have lost money.

It would be disingenuous not to acknowledge my fortune. It would make me no better than the swines in our cultural and political life who are the children of wealth, but proudly proclaim that they “did it on their own, without any help”. It is our most pernicious myth, aside from the one that brussels sprouts taste nice if you fry them with bacon. Your dad bought you a flat and the thing that tastes good is bacon. Sprouts taste like small, hard farts.

This is to say nothing of the woeful underrepresentation of female acts, ethnic minorities and members of the LGBTQ+ community. Organisations such as Fringe of Colour and Best in Class work hard to address this, but wholesale change is needed. No one seems to be able to put the finger on who is to blame. Landlords, venues, PRs, Edinburgh university and the Fringe Society blame each other, but in the end the bill is footed by performers.

It is no wonder that younger comedians are increasingly seeing the benefits of social media exposure to their careers; the startup costs required are minuscule in comparison to those of doing a show on the fringe. But allowing the fringe to slip slowly into obsolescence would be a shame. At its core, it offers performers a boot camp to hone their skills and a collision of different styles of performance.

Being a performer at the fringe can feel like being a character on a film set in Las Vegas, because the house always wins. And I mean one of the bleak Vegas films, not Ocean’s Eleven – there is no sign of Clooney or Pitt. The only time it resembles Ocean’s Eleven is when you hear some drama student attempt a truly disgraceful cockney accent that would make even Don Cheadle say: “Bleeding heck, guvnah.”

I still believe in the fringe. Perhaps that is inevitable, given my whole life is tied to it, like a pointless Forrest Gump. My birthday is in August, so I can measure my life through the festivals I have attended. My first years I was there, I spent almost every waking moment with Tom and Ed Gamble. In the past three years, I have been best man at their weddings. In 2010, I met a woman who was funny and charming, but whom I presumed disliked me intently. In October, we will have been in a relationship for 10 years. I cannot separate my own life from the fringe and the city of Edinburgh. It has given so much to me, professionally and personally.

But even I understand that it stands at a crossroads. It must find a way to recapture its egalitarian spirit to remain relevant. It is not enough for charitable organisations to fill in the gaps; systemic change is needed. I say this not out of malice, but simply because I strongly believe, to quote my own mother: “If you love something, you must be willing to relentlessly point out everything that is wrong with it,” a phrase she often says to and about me.

(but also the emphasis on not just the misery. but the life that is handed on as well.) and so much of naruto at the very beginning was about like. what it means to be a ninja. what a ninja is. but also a lot of that fell away after the land of waves arc. like it was never brought up so directly again (except some with tsunade, who i still think should've been the one to revamp the ninja system. in a way. although yes it's better if the new gen does it but tsunade had such stakes in it too and anyway THAT team up would've been cool). and naruto and sasuke being like, reincarnations of the sage of sixth path's kids fits with the cycles, and of like, what does it mean to be a ninja, what's a village, what's a clan, what's family, how do you interact in these systems, what do you create, what do you carry on

-but the reincarnation is also brought up like???? so close to the end that like. what's the point. like i just don't think it all flows together right. did we need to go back to the origin of chakra in kaguya to get to what all those things mean. i don't really think so.

I actually enjoy Carrie being a bad mom, and it furthers a narrative I have that women shouldn’t be persuaded to have children they don’t want (which is what happened with Carrie, Maggie, and their father). I’m only 4 seasons in and I know people despise her motherhood (or lack thereof) arc, but it is a cold hard truth that there are women out there who aren’t suited to be moms.

The fact that Carrie didn’t become this insanely loving and caring mother is something I haven’t seen before in TV and the fact that the writers didn’t give her character a complete overhaul was great, no matter how anger inducing it is to some.

I think this is a very interesting and valid response but over the years I've become so jaded on this topic.

While I completely agree that women shouldn't be persuaded to have children they don't want, the show never underlines this point. Ever. Never ever ever. The scene in 4.02 when Maggie is scolding Carrie for leaving and says "there's not even a diagnosis for what's wrong with you" is one of the most heinous things this show ever did. And yet Maggie was depicted as righteous! truthful! for it, when Carrie told them all exactly how it would would be and exactly what would happen. The moralizing continued throughout the season with Quinn especially. There was never any reckoning that Carrie had been pressured to have this kid that she didn't want or that she was suffering from postpartum depression. She was just cold and unfeeling, "The Drone Queen," and she needed only time and a shock to the system and whatever-the-fuck to come to her senses and learn to love Franny, which is what happens by season's end.

More fundamentally, the show was never interested or invested in Carrie being a mother. The writers only gave Carrie a kid to ~keep Brody's memory alive on the show~. In that respect, she was merely a vessel for Brody's likeness, Franny's red hair being the ultimate "fuck you" to Carrie (which she acknowledges in season six).

Season after season, the writers wrestled with The Franny Problem, which had at its core the dilemma of how to depict a woman who fundamentally does not want to be a mother (maternal qualities can be learned, and Carrie certainly does learn them, but the show could never get past the fact that this child was ultimately unwanted by both Carrie and the audience) while not also completely alienating audiences. In other words: in order to stay true to your main character, you needed to show that a woman who does not want to be a mother, but then is pressured to become one, is absent from her child's life at best (seasons 4, 5) and abusive (seasons 6, 7) at worst. The problem with absence is it just makes Franny a token, therefore undermining that it was some feminist pursuit to begin with. The problem with abuse.... well there are so many, but one is that it absolutely exhausts the audience and pushes them to hate your main character, when you actually need your audience to at least partially root for her! It was Claire Danes who had to stand up for Carrie and Franny during the production of season 7 and tell Alex Gansa enough was enough and they needed to take this shit seriously.

When they finally put The Franny Probem to rest, I say without exaggeration that every viewer of the show breathed a massive sigh of relief.

BnHA Chapter 316: We've Had One, Yes, But What About Second Explosion

Previously on BnHA: Deku was all “[powers up like whoa because it’s time to end the fight]”, and he saved Overhaul from getting not-shot, and then smashed up Nagant’s arm with the power of his new rechargeable super knees. Nagant was all “yoooo this kid is crazy strong whaaaat, it’s like he’s some kind of protagonist or something.” Deku was all “I AM A PROTAGONIST, ACTUALLY, DO YOU WANT TO JOIN FORCES AND FIGHT BAD GUYS WITH ME?” Nagant was all “ah shit why the hell no -- ” and then AFO was all “SURPRISE” and everyone was all “?!?!?!” and AFO was all “TIME TO EXPLODE NOW” and made Nagant explode because he’s an absolute fucking dick. And then Hawks showed up, because Horikoshi just wanted to stuff as many plot points as humanly possible into a single chapter I guess.

Today on BnHA: Hawks is all “good job giving motivational shounen redemption speeches Deku but I’ll take it from here” and screams very earnestly right in Nagant’s face until she finally wakes up. Nagant is all “oh hey it’s my successor, you seem surprisingly unfucked-up from your own HPSC tenure, how did you manage that?” Hawks is all “fandom is going to love hearing this one, but basically it’s because I’m very upbeat and also I had the world’s best role model Endeavor to look up to,” and I swear this man stirs the pot on purpose, but damn it I still love him so damn much. Overhaul is all “HELLO AGAIN, JUST A REMINDER THAT, THE BOSS!!” and Deku is all “MAYBE TAKE TWO SECONDS TO REFLECT ON HOW YOU TORTURED A LITTLE GIRL,” which, thank you, lol. Nagant is all “btw AFO’s hiding in a house in the woods”, and so Deku and the gang go to the house in the woods. Video recording!AFO is all “hi I’m AFO welcome to Jackass” and blows up the house. Sometimes I wonder if this manga is just a weird dream.

I am once again reading the Bean version because I think it was actually the best out of all three translations last week. and that is surprisingly including Viz’s. “faux” is not nearly as entertaining as “knockoff”, and also I have literally no idea why Caleb thought Deku was saying the Third’s lines lol

Another half-baked future fic idea about the start of Spinner and Dabi working through past problems and starting the foundations of something more positive. This one comes from #35 of this prompt list. Contains a couple of suggestive jokes, mention of quirk/heteromorph discrimination, and some swearing, but is generally safe beyond that.

There's a related idea about an earlier encounter between these two here.

Takes place after Shigaraki beats Re-Destro and takes the helm of the PLF, but before he goes through Ujiko's treatments.

Towards the end of a strategy meeting, Spinner gets a text from Dabi. This is shocking in and of itself, but moreso because Dabi wants to meet and talk. Alone.

Spinner weighs his options. He wonders if Dabi wants to kill him out of jealousy--he did catch Shigaraki sleeping in Spinner's arms that one time when they were still on the run. Ultimately, Spinner figures Dabi wouldn't try to use deceit to kill him. After all, he was pretty open about torching villains on the streets, and he never hid his hostility toward anyone before. Besides, Spinner isn't a coward, and he decides he'd gladly die while declaring his love for Shigaraki. Because he's romantic like that.

So, he shows up at Dabi's suite and knocks on the door. A muffled response tells him to come in. Gulping, Spinner does.

He finds Dabi in the sitting room of the suite, back turned, fiddling with something on a chair. Spinner clears his throat and is all, "Uh, you wanted to talk about something?"

Without turning around, Dabi says, "Your costume. Take it off."

Spinner presses his hands over his chest, figuratively clutching his pearls. "I...you're...what?"

""You heard me. Take it off."

When no reply except shocked silence follows, Dabi finally turns to look. He takes in Spinner's defensive posture and smirks with equal parts cynicism and amusement. Dabi holds up the strips of fabric and the sewing kit he'd been tinkering with when Spinner came in.

Spinner is too stunned to really argue or question Dabi yet, so he does as he's told. Funnily enough, he feels more exposed taking off the Stain-like mask than he does removing his body armor vest. Not making eye contact, he hands them over, bracing for Dabi to make some snide comment about his scales or whatever.

"Take it off so I can make a few alterations," he explains. "I only need your vest and mask right now. If you like what I do with them and want to fix anything on the rest of your stuff, let me know and I'll get to that later."

Author's note: One Dabi headcanon I have is that he learned to sew from having to live on the streets, and also as a way to fix his own injuries. He fixed Twice's mask after it was ripped during the Overhaul arc. It's a way for him to show he cares without acknowledging the fact outright.

Dabi accepts the garments with a soft, "Thanks," and nothing more.

What the hell is going on?

The question dominates Spinner's thoughts as he settles on the suite's sofa and watches Dabi work. Dabi uses tools from the sewing kit to carefully remove the side straps and buckles from the vest, muttering about how Detnerat is supposed to be a big shot company yet doesn't know what the hell they're doing when it comes to design.

Spinner finally recovers enough to ask Dabi why he's taking his clothes apart. Dabi glances up at him before explaining.

They're both there because of Shigaraki--which, by the way, Spinner can quit trying to be sneaky about going to Shigaraki's room. The League knows, Dabi knows, it's cool. Both of them want the same thing in supporting a person they care about. Therefore, Dabi figures he should make an effort to get to know Spinner a little more and maybe--maybe--be less of an asshole.

Dabi's noticed that Spinner has a bit of trouble undoing buckles as well as tying his mask because those aren't designed for people with claws, so he figures he'd do a few modifications to make life easier. You know, as a sort of apology for giving Spinner shit about his quirk.

Maybe Dabi's expecting forgiveness. Maybe he thought he'd receive gratitude for the gesture. He gets neither.

Spinner bolts up from the sofa and unloads on him.

He yells at Dabi for all of a sudden pretending to care only now that they're sharing Shigaraki. He lays into him about skipping out to test nomus with Ujiko instead of being there for Shigaraki when he and the League needed him. And Spinner doesn't need help from some smug, quirkist piece of shit to "fix" his costume! He got by just fine without Dabi and he'll continue to be fine long after he's gone! And and and...just generally fuck off!

Dabi takes this in silence, expression passive. He watches Spinner catch his breath for a moment.

"Feel better?"

"Yes! Wait, wha--no!" Spinner doesn't know what he feels exactly. He's not exactly angry at Dabi anymore, not right that second...and that pisses him off in it's own way.

"You want your stuff?" Dabi asks.

"Well, you already fucking messed it up, didn't you? You can't undo it. Might as well just keep going."

His own words hit Spinner the second they're out of his mouth. The buzz of irritation increases in his nerves. No, he's not letting Dabi off the hook that easily. The shitty nicknames and leaving the Shigaraki alone to face Gigantomachia don't get swept under the rug just because Dabi feels like making nice now. Shigaraki probably ordered him to patch things up with Spinner. This means nothing.

Dabi accepts his reaction with a nod and goes back to picking out stitches. "It'll be ready in a few hours tops."

Because Spinner can't let him have the last word: "Don't screw up the fit. They did get the sizing right at least." Damn it!

"Relax. I can check the measurements against what Twice has down for you." A hint of a smile sneaks onto Dabi's face. "Unless you want me to measure you personally. Just to be thorough."

Was this how he got Shigaraki? Well, he wouldn't get Spinner. Nevermind that his neck felt way too hot all of a sudden and a stutter infected his words. "Y-yeah right. You wish."

Spinner doesn't flee the room. He doesn't. It's a tactical withdraw. He's got a lot of planning to do if he's going to get Dabi back for this.

BNHA Chapter 327 Spoiler Analysis: Home Sweet Home

OH MY GOD, GUYS!!!  DEKU GETS A BATH!!!! 🎉🛁 🧼   My broccoli boy finally gets squeaky clean, gets some sleep, and we finally get some R&R time with the Class 1-A kids.  It’s not close to the happy-go-lucky days of old, but it’s some time with the kids nonetheless.  I’m glad Horikoshi put some heart and humor in this chapter because god knows we needed it.  But, let’s be real, this is the calm before the storm:

The chapter starts off with what everyone and Horikoshi has been wanting for Deku since he went on his mission: A motherfuckin’ bath 🛀 🧼🛁!   Kaminiari and Kirishima lead the Class 1-A boys to carry Deku into their side of the UA Alliance bathhouse (looks real nice btw) and give him a good power-wash.  The whole sequence is very comical!  The boys are rushing in and poor Deku has this O_O face on him like “what is happening?” 😂 We also see some of the boys butt naked 😳  It’s clear that Horikoshi had fun drawing this thing and it was fun to read 💚

Bakugo is with them of course and you can actually see his scars from when Shigaraki stabbed him.  He’s not bleeding, but you can see those scar patches on his skin.  I’m curious of how fan artist are going to draw him from now on.  I would like to see that fan art 👀

There’s also some bubble sfx coving Bakugo’s crotch and a translator said it might say dick or penis.  I’m curious what the officials will say.

But, Bakugo being Bakugo is still aggressive towards his classmates.  More playfully than before, but still.  He reminds everyone that he still intends on being the best there is and that everyone is still his rivals (also friends, Bakugo).  HE EVEN MAKES AN ATTEMPT TO CALL DEKU IZUKU!  LIKE HE ALMOST SAID “DEKU” BUT HE CHANGED IT TO IZUKU AT THE LAST MINUTE!  AND DEKU SAYS THAT CALLING HIM DEKU IS JUST FINE LIKE THAT ANGER THAT ORIGINATED FROM THE NICKNAME ISN’T THERE ANYMORE AND IT’S A FREINDLY NICKNAME BKDK FRIENDSHIP GROWTH YOU LOVE TO SEE IT 🧡💚  

After Deku’s bath, he’s sitting in the commons talking to the rest of Class 1-A.  Well, most of them.  Mina tells Deku that Ochako and a few other students went to bed after everything became ok again.  So, I definitely didn’t see Tsuyu, and it looks like Shoji, Aoyama, and Hagakare weren’t in this chapter either.  Ochako I understand; her speech must’ve been emotionally taxing.  Aoyama and Hagakare are the top suspects for being the traitor in the fandom and this isn’t helping their cases.  I don’t know about Tsuyu and Shoji though.  They’re both mutant-types, but characters like Ojiro or mutant-like people like Jiro, Mina or Tokoyami didn’t get outcasted.  Horikoshi did hint that Shoji would be getting something soon.  But, I really am just speculating here.

Now that Deku’s back, everyone has questions for him.  Though I understand why, this has gotta be overwhelming for Deku.  At least they’re not mad at him for hiding OFA.  They seem very understanding actually.

Then my ❄️🔥 boy, Shoto Todoroki, comes in all handsome right out of the baths 💙  He’s drying his right side while you can see a steam cloud on his left.  So, it is canon that Shoto drys himself naturally with his heat. His entrance is so pretty that even Mineta’s questioning it (shut up, Mineta, you’ll never be as beautiful as him).  And yes, I might be a Shoto simp, don’t judge me I see y’all too 👀

Anyway, Shoto asks everyone to let Deku sleep since that was pretty much the whole reason they brought him back.  Problem is, Deku can’t because he really needs to apologize to All Might for abandoning him.  AND AFTER HE SAYS THAT THERE’S A DETAILED PANEL OF SHOTO POINTING TO ALL MIGHT LIKE “UH, MIDORIYA? HE’S RIGHT THERE” AND ALL MIGHT LOOKING FROM THE WINDOW LIKE A HORROR VILLAIN WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE 😭

All Might comes in and apologizes to Deku for not being able to support him when he needed it, but Deku says that All Might support him more than enough.  Mina also scolds All Might for not saying anything when he left.  She wants All Might to apologize to everyone for that.  Though I’m glad Deku and All Might have reconciled (I honestly thought that last convo between them was going to be THE LAST for a hot minute), Mina has a point.  All Might did bail on all of them without any warning.  Kinda messed up in general.

All Might apologizes and he is going to fight with everyone regardless of his physical state so that he can see that flame continue to shine.  However, he warns the kids that they got info on the villains and that the final decisive battle is coming soon.  If the whole “Final Arc” thing hasn’t been hammered into your head, there you go.  I’m also glad that Stain’s speech did end up motivating All Might further.  Who knew?

So, All Might is off to help Endeavor since he’s got unfinished business to take care of.  But, the kids are wondering why Endeavor (and probably Hawks) isn’t entering UA entirely yet.  Shot reminds them that Endeavor is still connected to Dabi and that his presence alone would cause more discourse.  People’s minds can’t change that easily.  Shoto of all people would know.  

As Deku FINALLY SLEEPS 💤 and Shoto puts a blanket over him (possibly warmed by his left side 🔥) 💙💚 Shoto acknowledges how his presence might be making people anxious too even though it’s not his fault at all (thank you, Kirishima for doubling down on this btw ❤️🪨).  But, things are different and Shoto’s going to show that so that everyone can be at ease like he wants as a hero.  There’s even this sweet small smile on his beautiful face as he says this.  He’s grown so much and he’s pretty to boot I love him so much *HANDS IN FACE* 💙❄️🔥 

EVEN KIRISHIMA’S CRYING FROM HOW MANLY SHOTO IS I LOVE THESE KIDS!!!!

And now Jiro steps up and says her piece.  That she knows how hard it is to convince everyone to change their minds for the better.  Like with those two critics from the Culture Fest.  Even so, they accomplished this before, so she thinks they can do it again.  She even gathers all the band members to emphasize on this.  I love how Jiro uses her earphone jacks to rally the band and how she literally drags Bakugo by the shirt for a cute group shot.  None of these kids are afraid of Bakugo anymore LOL 😂!  Also, Momo is the tallest out of all of them in this line up shot (except for Bakugo who’s still being dragged on the ground).  I think she’s roughly 5ft 6-7 inches?  She’s the tallest of the girls I know that, but damn.  She towers all of them.  Even me...  She’s also very pretty in this shot and it’s her birthday as I’m posting this, so happy b-day Momo ❤️

And we get a beautiful panel of Jiro leading everyone to make sure that they’ll go beyond with making everything better than it was before.  We get a nice group shot of the rest of the class agreeing with her with a smile including Shoto with a small one (did I mention that I love him?) 💙💙💙 And Deku’s in the center still sleeping away.  I hope he has good dreams *kisses forehead*💚  And go Jiro for stepping up to the plate too 💜!  All these kids have grown so much.  There is a light at the end of the tunnel. 

Finally, the last pages show Endeavor, Hawks, and Best Jeanist going somewhere, maybe Tartarus.  They got info out of Dr. Ujiko via polygraph and the Nomu Research Group at Central Hospital.  They predict that they have 2 months until Shigaraki’s ready to go again, so they’ll need 1 month of preparation.  But, the info Stain gave All Might gave them more info.  His letter ended up being a personal letter to All Might (Stain really is that nuts...), but there was a microchip in the blade Stain left containing the security records from Tartarus.  It’s not stated how this info affected the mission at hand, but it sounds like it has to do something with the time frame.  So, I’m curious if they have less time to prepare or more?  Given how this is the Final Arc, Imma say less.

Finally, the teaser asks “How are the villains moving?”  I wonder if that means we’re switching to the villain’s next week.  I would love to hang out with the kids more, but I would also like to know what our villains are up to.  Like, where the hell is Himiko Toga?  Is Spinner still questioning shit?  What happened to Mr. Compress after he mauled himself to help Shigaraki and the others escape?  Also I think we need more info on this dude’s backstory given he’s the grandson of the famous Robin Hood villain who’s name definitely didn’t escape me... 😐  Is Dabi laughing his ass off from the utter chaos he started?  Is AFO still smiling like the evil mastermind he is?  Is Shigaraki as crispy as he was earlier?  I was going to ask about Twice but... 😭

So, yeah!  Love this chapter.  Really good transition chapter into whatever happens next.  I’m kinda sad we didn’t see Deku fight off more past villains during his vigilante days.  We got Muscular and Overhaul and I think that’s it?  Didn’t see any of Overhaul’s minions or that teeth-blade villain (Fish-something?; he broke out, but we haven’t seen him since) or Re-Destro or his goons.  I don’t count as Gentle or LaBrava as villains anymore and they were never truly evil to begin with.  Regardless, it was a really cool arc to see a more dark side of Deku.  I’m really glad Horikoshi made great use of his bunny hood and metal mask finally.  Deku really did look demonic for some time.  Also, seeing Deku badass is always a plus.  And seeing the deconstruction of hero society and the possible reconstruction of it was really good too.  Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, unfortunately, but we can do our best to make it that way.

I’m also glad that we finally got our kids back in top form.  Not just being heroes, but being teenagers too.  They all had great moments especially Iida, Ochako, and now Shoto as they should.  But, Bakugo’s apology was peak for me.  Over 320 chapters of development and build-up lead to that moment and it really is one of the best in the series.  It lives in my head rent free.

So, we got 1-2 months in-manga-time until what is probably the final battle of the series.  God, I can’t believe we’re actually nearing the end of this series.  I started reading it back in 2018 when shit was rough for me. I found this series after listening to the music and reading the hype around it.  I watched the show then I read the manga and it really helped me.  Saved me from a dark place actually.  I will miss this series when it’s done and I will be greatly for the joy Horikoshi has gifted us.  I’ll try to save the farewells for later.  I’d say this series has at least 1-1 1/2 years to go.

If Endeavor didn’t change Shouto would probably never extend his hand like that

I don’t think Endeavor’s effort to become something resembling a normal human being in any way diminishes how fucking kind Shouto was in that moment. 

1. Shouto was still sitting on the fence about forgiving, and to be fair, I don’t think this was forgiveness either, more like this is him prioritizing the need to get the old man back on his feet considering the shitstorm happening for everyone. 

2. It’s not like Endeavor has proven himself to be that great an asset when it comes to fight situations involving his family. He froze up when Natsuo was in danger, he did jack shit to help Shouto, not even moving his hurt friends out of the fire blast radius like Shouto asked him to, which also made Shouto’s room for maneuver against Touya that much more limited. (He doesn't reproach any of this to Enji even though he could.) So if he’s willing to team up with his dad here, it’s because Shouto trusts Rei’s judgement on this. 

3. While Enji did some effort apologizing and figuring things out for everyone else with building them the new house and sending flowers to Rei, he’s actually changed the least with regards to Shouto. We as readers see his inner thoughts and we know how much he changed on the inside when it comes to recognizing Shouto as a person with his own will and agency, he didn’t really communicate any of that to Shouto. 

For one, he never acknowledged or apologized for regularly beating the shit out of him under the guise of training, making him hate his own quirk or robbing him of a normal childhood and of a relationship with his mom and siblings. His instinct is still treating Shouto like he knows what’s best for him and ignoring that he may have wishes of his own. 

Also, I think in his head Enji still believes in that “giving Shouto everything” narrative that he made up. That somehow his quirk is a great gift bestowed on him (that he never asked for btw). So I think until Endeavor recognizes how he wronged Shouto in every way since before his birth, and properly voices out how horribly he treated him (and not just saying fuzzy things like “obsessing over Shouto”), he hasn’t really done right by him. Especially because Shouto is so reluctant to even think about how he’s a victim in this too, so I think it will be up to Enji to recognize that for him and validate that pain.

I don’t think that it’s a coincidence Horikoshi is drawing Endeavor obsessing over Shouto here like he did Overhaul and Eri. There is a lot in common between Shouto and Eri and like Eri, Shouto is a character who has been robbed of happiness and the ability to smile for so long. He's found some more joy with his friends, but we still haven't seen him smile radiantly and it's so sad.

Endeavor did change, but forgiveness cannot be earned. And even if it could be earned, I don't think he did enough for Shouto specifically. But Shouto is not thinking of himself, he's placing everyone else first (Rei's wishes, what's good for his siblings, what's good for the public), so extending his hand is still an act of extreme kindness.

Ooh okay, so when you (obviously) start to wilt and withdraw and die on the inside after you’ve been snagged, which yanderes are the “aw this one’s broken, time to get rid of it” type, who are the “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” type, and who are the “oh thank god I’m here, they would have had to go through this alone otherwise” type?

Okay *breaks knuckles* so this is gonna get a little complicated because I feel like a lot of them would be multiple at the same time or none of them at all and here’s my reasons why:

Dabi: He would be the “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” type on the inside and feel immense self-hatred, blaming Endeavor for creating him, but he would also be super insulted and angry at you on the outside. He’d take this as a personal insult, thinking he’s so unlovable and that you hate him so much that you completely withdraw from him out of spite. Not even you can love him. What the fuck does he have to do to have anyone give a shit about him? Tbh, he’d probably have sex with you featuring very dubious consent, not only because he’s looking to hurt, embarrass, and disgust you with his scarred body, but he’s so desperate for you to see the good things he can do for you if you just come back to him please just come back. 

Hawks: 100% the “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” type, but he would think of this as a necessary sacrifice to keep you safe. While he would curse himself and wish he were dead for making such a lovely and chipper sunflower lose the twinkle in their eyes, he prioritizes your safety over your happiness. He would rather have you be one of the walking dead than have to worry about losing the only person he truly cares about. Still, he would mourn your metaphorical death by clinging to your limp body and sobbing into your chest, pleading for you to just say something he’s so alone.

Shigaraki: Similar to Dabi in the way that he’d say “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” on the inside, but he’d get really pissed at you on the outside. Though unlike Dabi, he takes this more in a way that you’re protesting and being a spoiled little brat. He’ll convince himself that you’re just faking it and you’re not actually depressed, but you’re giving him the cold shoulder because you’re mad that you asked him permission to go outside and he said no. How ungrateful. He may even threaten you but it’s less in anger and more in a desperate attempt to have you react to something because you acting like this scares the ever-loving shit out of him.

Tamaki and Twice: I think y’all already know that they’re both “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” types. They’ll scream and sob and say that they’re sorry and to just please come back to them again they’ll do anything. They’ll even take out a butcher’s knife and hold it to their wrists in front of you telling you that they’ll kill themselves if it will make you feel better. If that doesn’t work they’d ask if you want to slit their throats yourself.

Fatgum: Mostly a “oh thank god I’m here, they would have had to go through this alone otherwise” type at the beginning, but as you start to neglect your wifely (gender neutral) duties he’ll quickly get bored of you unless you’re pregnant and become the “aw this one’s broken, time to get rid of it” type. He’d tell himself how much of a good husband he is for helping his wife or husband through this super random bout of depression. He thinks maybe if you eat a little more, get more cuddles, or get a pet, you’ll go right back to being normal. If you take too long to do so and he’s not getting what he wanted out of you, he’ll get frustrated with you which may end with him accidently killing you. Whether that does happen or not, there are other fish in the sea he supposes. Who wouldn’t want to be with such a great guy like him? There’s obviously still a lot of lingering resentment with him though since his next victim isn’t even allowed to speak your name in this house. He always compares the new victim to you in his head and snaps at them because they’ll never live up to you.

Stain and Aizawa: Again, “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” types. This would greatly upset the both of them and they’re aware that this is their fault, but they just can’t let you go. While they both would be really quiet about their guilt and not really acknowledge the elephant in the room, they would stare at you all the time completely still for hours on end just to see if you’d show any signs of life. They’d silently come up behind you and wrap their arms around your torso in a non-verbal plea to not leave them alone.

Overhaul: Imma be real with you, chief - he wouldn’t care and he might not even notice. He doesn’t care about you or your happiness because he sees you as a non-person. Would you care about the feelings of the chair you’re sitting on? That’s how he would feel on the subject. 

Miruko: An “oh fuck oh no what do I do what do I do?!?” type, but she’d act like she’s the “aw this one’s broken, time to get rid of it” type to scare you. Though her sadism makes it seem like she only sees you as her toy to torment, and you are, she does legitimately love you and she wants you to love her back. Deep down, she’d know she went too far and that this is her own fault for not being able to have some self restraint, but her logic would be that she needs to scare you out of your depression and act like the monster you think she is. She’d tell you that if she doesn’t hear you scream, she’ll throw you away and get someone who screams louder, amping up the torture all the way to ten just to get you to say something.

Geten: This is when he can get... scary. He’s extremely devoted to you and the most distinct quality about yandere Geten is how differently he treats you from other people and how weak in the knees you make him... boy has an explosive temper though. He will shriek at you to stop this little game of yours because it’s not fucking funny, angry tears spilling out of his eyes. He has abandonment issues and this, in his opinion, is your own cruel way to abandon him and he will absolutely blame you for this out of a blind rage. He’ll grab your body and shake you violently, unintentionally giving you frost-bite on top of depression. This is probably the thing he will blame himself for though as he holds your trembling body in the tub of luke-warm water while he continues to shriek.

So, I pretty much exclusively write Tomura with that idea in mind. For me, it’s just a...if I can say this, a canon compliant concept.

You opened a can of worms nonnie. I’m going to answer the ask, but imma hop on my soap box first ✨

Tomura I would argue, is less of an asshole and more of a sassafras. He is snarky, snarky & I love his attitude.

I feel like early Tomura is the main font of this “asshole” misconception within the fandom. Horikoshi wrote him very differently in the beginning of BNHA. Pretty much everyone who met him called Tomura a “man child.” And he kinda is. He’s impatient and short tempered, but not once did he react to these slights with what I would classify as asshole behavior. Even when his life is threatened, he’s being a little sassy boi.

He’s annoyed in these panels. But he’s not like, hey, you fucking dick, get off my nuts before I kill you. If anything, he elaborates on his thoughts and is challenging Stain to pick up the crappy pieces of his own shoddy “theories.” To Tomura, killing heroes is only breeding MORE heroes. He feels Stain’s plan is flawed & he tells him so.

Tomura is also easily able to slip into different roles. He can fit in with others and make himself part of the crowd. He’s got mountains of self control. When he spies Izuku in the mall he doesn’t come at him with some angry outburst, instead he reverts to snark:

Look at his voice bubbles! They’re a little wavy, but they’re nothing like his usual bubbles. This man can modulate and control how he sounds. He’s going for something open and friendly, albeit, his general demeanor is creepy, but he still manages to get close to Izuku and catch him off guard.

This is the worst outburst we see from Tomura. He’s not spewing vitriol or degrading dialogue, if anything, he’s controlling himself. He’s not wanting to kill these guys anymore and he’s scratching out some space for himself. He needs time to process. He’s a little rude, I guess, but who hasn’t told someone to shut up? It’s a normal piece of conversation when you’re annoyed.

But ken, what about asshole behavior that is visible in the manga? I gotchu, don’t worry.

This guy? Dabi? Yeah, this guy is an example of an asshole. He’s abrasive and confrontational from the GET. Tomura only responses to his aggression, he doesn’t project his frustration until after Dabi has called him fucking GROSS. You talk a lotta shit when you look like THAT king. Like, the morgue called, and they want their burn victim BACK.

Again, Tomura is snarky, but he only calls Toga a freak after she spouts some nonsense about loving Stain so much she wants to kill him. These people are wild and he is not pleased. His ad in the paper asked for COMPETENT villains, not teens, tweens and anything in between.  

Plus, Mr. 3rd Degree Burns keeps ignoring his questions. I’d be peeved too, y’all.

Dabi is the asshole in the LOV. He goes out of his way to be nasty, especially to Spinner:

How does Tomura deal with Spinner? He treats him as an equal, even asks his opinion on battle strategy when they are in Deika City.

Tomura has changed a toooon over the course of this manga. Horikoshi has deepened his growth and created a very well rounded and complex character. He cares about his people and he hates being disrespected. Hell, he hates when his people are taken advantage of.

This man, if you are on his side, will fight for you.

So, I don’t write him as an asshole. To me, that is fanon and not canon. Now writing him as blunt, snarky and impatient? Sure. Because, to me, he IS all those things and we can see him being all those things.

ANYWAY. If you made it this far, here is the Drabble:

“They haven’t checked in for two days. Should I call them? I told Toga she needed to-“

“Don’t bother. If it exposes our hand, then this whole mission is a waste.”

“But if they-“

“Why do I need to repeat myself? Like I said, if our plan is revealed then Mange’s death, and your fucking arm, were sacrificed for no reason. Don’t call them, Compress.”

You’re perched on the edge of a large box, watching the tense exchange. Tomura has been quiet the last few days, even keeping you at an arms length. He’s upset, and he’s been brittle, jagged in his recent conversations and movements.

Compress tosses you a quick glance and shrugs, his light brown eyes darkening. “All right, I suppose we can go off of the old saying that: no news, is good news. However, I am going to ask Toga to maintain regular check in’s the next time she calls.”

“Fine,” Tomura grunts, following Compress’ line of sight, his eyes lingering over your seated form. “Is that all?”

“Yes, yes,” Compress nods, his gloved hand waving in the air beside his head. “That’s all from me. I’ll check on the van. Giran said it would be available this afternoon.”

Tomura continues his silent observation of you, barely lifting his chin to acknowledge Compress’ statement.

“I’ll be back this afternoon,” Compress continues, letting out a soft chuckle as he turns on his heel, closing the heavy door behind him.

“You think they’re ok?” You ask, your voice soft.

Tomura removes Father from his face, his long white hair falling around his cheeks. “I told them I trusted in their abilities. It’s not sending the right message if I pester them for intel and their whereabouts every few days. Don’t you start up, too.”

You laugh and hop off the crate, your feet padding you over to him. “I’m not, it’s just...it’s so soon after...I mean, Mange’s death was...”

“Yes. Chisaki is an idiot if he thinks one lackey of his is equal to our Mange. This has to work.”

You lift a hand, pressing your fingers across his jaw, cupping his warm skin. Tomura leans into your touch, his vermilion eyes slipping behind his hooded eyelids.

“It will,” you confirm, pulling him down to your lips.

PT 1 I gave WHC Christmas Part 1 and 2 a chance. It was warm and fuzzy. Alfonso Moreno wrote it and they made sure to tie things together. Abigail was Abigail. Caring about orphans, Cody, and recognizing true love. It wasn't too much, but it was only the first two episodes. Her character on WCTH didn't start out meddling in everything until Season 3, I believe. I dunno. It's hard for me to have all the feels and be hopeful after all that has transpired.

PT 2 If I took out the jaded and disappointed me (about not having Grace and Chuck), I would say it was a nice and happy Part 1 and 2. I was very suprised that they got rid of quite a few characters. The lady that was helping Lillian and Grace is gone, Pearl, the town gossip is gone, and a few more. They did replace Pearl with a newcomer who is a POC and a baker. She has no drama. That was nice. Grace and Chuck got married and are living in London.

PT 3 Jack visiting Abigail was nice. He gave his blessing to Elizabeth. He wished her Goodbye. That indicates to me that DL doesn't want to continue on as JT. Abigail also wrote a letter to HG. Now this is all fine and dandy, but for those who never watched WCTH are probably like why is Jack appearing to Abigail and talking about a woman named Elizabeth and Little Jack? lol Also, the Henry Gowan reference, too.

As far as we know, Lori was only supposed to be there for the Christmas movie and not in the actual episodes of season 2 even though they seem to be treating her like the star in all the press/promo. They might be waiting to see how she's received before deciding to bring her on as a regular. If they do, I imagine it'll turn into her being involved in everything yet again.

I don't think they intended to do an overhaul of the cast. They probably had to work with who was available/wanted to return and fill in where they needed to. I'm sure they would've preferred to have Jocelyn and Greg but they've moved on to better things (good for them).

Why would Jack need to give Abigail his blessing for Elizabeth??? I find that so inappropriate and such a manipulative thing for the show to do. It makes no sense and WHC should be leaving WCTH alone since they are separate now. We have Lori to blame for that since she encouraged Dan to come. How she got to decide that is beyond me. Same with the letter to Henry. Why? This is not some crossover episode. The shows have nothing to do with each other anymore. It's a shit move to do that to the WCTH writers who are trying to do their own thing. Will the letter to Henry be acknowledged by him on WCTH? No. They'll have their own explanation for how things ended, surely. That makes me so annoyed that they're taking it upon themselves to do all those things. Maybe Brian is the go-between making sure they both fit but still. Don't like it. THEY ARE SEPARATE NOW. They need to have their own stories.

I doubt there's anyone watching WHC that isn't familiar with WCTH so that wouldn't be an issue. Their whole strategy was convincing/manipulating WCTH fans to watch by pulling all these stunts. I'll be very curious to see if this special can actually get GAC to break into the top 150 programs of the night which they've yet to do (what losers) with any of their new content.

Overhaul x F!Reader

A/N: I know i said i wanted to make HAPPY overhaul writings but my cold heart slapped me in the face with this angsty idea so enjoy.

You looked at your husband from across the room as you watch him talk to other gangs the go across the area. You scrunched your nose in disgust. Not at the other men oh no, but at your so called husband Overhaul.

It’s no secret you guys have been having a rough patch in your marriage. He was always worried about work while you worried about your husband even though you knew he never worried about you. Which struck a nerve with you that you didn’t want to talk about.

Your husband turned his head to look at you and out of spite you immediately turned you head somewhere else before walking out of the room and into your bedroom.

You demanded your own room for awhile since it seemed like you both needed space at the moment, and to escape his constant nagging of what your not doing correctly.

You close the door and plop onto your bed while grabbing a pillow to hug close to you. Digging your face into the pillow like you would your husbands chest.

Overhaul wasn’t the most romantic person and your okay with that. You weren’t either. So when he started to willingly touch you, like pats on the head, kisses on your forehead, he even let you guys cuddle a few times. It took so much time to get him to initiate physical contact. You never took any of his touches for granted so when he just stopped his usual little pats or kisses it made you very sad. Was it something you did? No, you didn’t do anything. So why was he just ignoring you now?

You sat on your desk with a pencil in hand. Your eyes never leaving the paper in which you had written on all the times you felt alone or the times you felt that your husband didn’t love you anymore.

You pretty much had a little tiny booklet at this point. You had the dates of when, the time stamps and the little action he did that made you question his true feelings. You looked down on the paper, feeling little tears making your vision grow blurry. 

“Damnit, why does it have to be like this!” You cried as you hug yourself with your arms. You were trying to be as quiet as possible when you were crying since you didn’t want anyone interrupting your little session. But life always has a way of being inconsiderate.

“(y/n) don’t forget we’re suppose to go to a party tonight so wear something nice.” You couldn’t stop the tears in time so you know he must have heard you crying. But he didn’t say anything. He held the door open a little longer before leaving. Leaving you in just more sorrow. He even ignored your crying! Whats the point in even trying to rekindle anything anymore?

You arrived at the party around 8pm with Overhaul by your side. You both said nothing to each other the entire time. 

‘He just brought me here for show’ You thought to yourself as you stand  near the door while your husband was talking to other important people. You husband hated germs so you were surprised when he wanted to go to a party.

“Miss (y/n), why are you all the way over here? Shouldn’t you be with Overhaul?” You turn your head to see Nemoto beside you.

“Please the only reason im here is for show, he doesn’t give to shits what i do the rest of the night I might as well go home at this point.” You said to him trying to stop the watering of your eyes. But you weren’t quick enough to hide them.

“You truly feel this way?” Nemoto side with a hint of concern in his voice.

“How can i not? He never talks to me anymore, I have to be the one to start the conversation. He never hugs me or does anything with me. It took us so long for him to even hug me! So to see it all disappear for no apparent reason really fucking hurts. He always acts like he’s embarrassed to be seen with me! There’s more but i just want to go home. There’s no reason for me to be here, look around Nemoto! All these people have titles and wealth while im only Overhauls supposed wife who use to work at a flower shop.” You said. Your entire being shaking as your voice trembled.

“Just take me home. I don’t want to embarrass his majesty and further.”

“There’s no changing your mind?” Nemoto asked even though he knew the answer.

“I thank you for your concern but no there isn’t. I’m fucking sick of these games.” You said. Nemoto nodded before leaving you to call a taxi.

“Nemoto have you seen (y/n)?” Overhaul asked his friend as he had been looking around the entire party for you.

“Ah she went home sir.”

“And you didn’t stop her?!”

“Trust me it was for the best that she went home.” Nemoto said before disappearing into the crowd.

“She knew that Nemoto was her ride home so how did she get home?”

You walked home. You just wanted to be alone with your thoughts, and it was nice. No worrying about making your husband angry, nothing to distract you. You made it home without a scratch and immediately went to take a shower.

You undressed and stepped into the shower feeling the warm droplets prickle onto your skin. You let out a breath that you didn’t know you were holding. You finally felt somewhat a piece. Overhaul was at the party and-

“(Y/N) why did you leave the party?!” Well there goes your silence. You knew Nemoto would tell Overhaul where you were if asked. But you honestly weren’t expecting him to come all the way back for you.

“I didn’t want to be there!” You yell back at him. You sigh and dried yourself off and got out of the shower. You put on your pajama’s and walked out of the bathroom to face your angry husband.

“We made plans to go there for at least 1 month!”

“Oh im sorry did i embarrass you? Seems like im always an embarrassment to you!” You yell at him. You knew where this was leading. You both would get in a fight, Overhaul wouldn’t listen to you, leaving you crying and filled with anger.

“You did embarrass me yes! Jesus woman did you even consider how bad you made me look!” 

“How bad i made you look?! You always look at me like im just some revolting creature! Yo never listen to me and always leave me crying and angry! You heard me crying earlier today and didn’t do shit about it!”

“I was busy!”

“Too busy to comfort you fucking wife?! God I don’t know what to do anymore with you!”

“I’m a very busy man damnit! You know how much this means to me!”

“How much do I mean to you Kai?” You asked looking down. Tears falling as your hands shook in fists.

“What?”

“You fucking heard me. How. Much. Do. I. Mean. To. You.” The room was silent. The more time went by the more your heart broke. 

“Your my wife.”

“Am I your wife or am i just some fucking trophy?” You asked in a stern voice. He didn’t answer.

“Ever since you became the leader of the Shie Hassakai you never even seem to acknowledge my existence! Only needing me when it makes you look god!” You cried out to him. He just looked at you with that cold emotionless face.

“I’m gonna give you a choice, there is no turning back when you answer this.” Your breathing grew heavy as the weight of not knowing the answer grew on you.

“What?” He said in a tone that you could sense he was pissed.

“It’s me or your goal.” You said looking him right in the eyes. And you could undoubtedly see some sort of surprise and panic in them.

“Thats stupid-”

“ME OR THE GOAL OVERHAUL!” You yelled at him shaking in angry. Just by the look on his face you could tell what the answer was. 

“Fuck you Overhaul, I wish i never met you.” You go up to him slapping him in the face causing his mask to unhook a bit. You push past him and walked out of the compound crying. Everyone looking at you as you walked by.

“Every get back to work no time for messing around.” Overhaul said as he saw everyone looking at him in interest and worry. But they answered anyway.

As much as he’ll always deny it, watching you leave the compound in tears shot a pang right through his heart. He was so close to perfecting the bullet, why couldn’t you just understand that? He knew you guys had problems but what couples don’t?

That night he laid in his bed eyes flickered up to the ceiling. His brain bringing back memories from when you both were just married.

He remembered how much you use to smile before this all went down. You would laugh at the tiniest little things which use to make his heart flutter. 

Now thinking about it, when was the last time he heard you genuinely laugh or genuinely smile? His felt another pang right through his heart at the thought of you. 

He soon grew angry. How dare you make him lose sleep! He needed every hour so he could get started for the next day. How can you try and make him chose between his goal and you? Why ask that if you already knew the answer? Did you want to hope that he would pick you? He was too far into it he couldn’t back down now!

Overhaul’s eyes soon fluttered shut as the sleep consumed him.

“I can’t wait for tonight! I finally get to show you my favorite place to be!” You smile at Overhaul while jumping up and down.

“So your still not gonna tell me where we’re going?”

“No! That’ll just ruin the surprise!” You pouted before motioning him to follow you. A thing he liked about you. You never touched him without asking him first. You understood his disgust for germs. And you were quirkless! A win win situation.

“Okay I’m coming.” He let out a chuckle before following you. He would never admit out loud how much he loved you. You were something that he would never take for granted. If he lost you, what would he do? You were the only one who understood him, cared for him. Being with you made all his worries go away.

“We’re super close just about 5 more minutes!” You laughed as you twirled around skipping. Something you always did when you first met him.

“I’m so curious to what has you so giddy.”

“Well just being with you makes me giddy!” You smiled at him. He wanted to hug you, to kiss you but his mysophobia always got in the way. He knew you were clean but for some reason he couldn’t take to touching you just yet.

“We’re here!” You said as you looked at him with happiness. 

Overhaul looked up to a bright sky full of stars. It was so beautiful. The night sky dark enough to see all sorts of constellations.

“Isn’t it pretty?” You said as you eyed up the sky. You looked so peaceful looking up at the sky.

“Yes indeed it is a beautiful sight.”

“I’m glad I met you Kai, i wouldn’t be this happy if i hadn’t met you.” You gave him a warm smile.

“I could say the same.” He smiled under his mask. He took a deep breath before grabbing your hand and holding it. Of course he still had his glove on but he could feel your excitement the moment he held your hand.

His eyes slowly opened as he let out a yawn. He sat up in his bed rubbing his eyes as he replayed his dream once more. He remembered that day like it was yesterday.

He sighed as he looked towards your side of the bed, nothing.

Another sharp pang burst through his chest as he realized that what happened yesterday was no nightmare.

He remembered when you use to always sleep by his side in your guys old shared bed. He never admitted it but having you right there next to him always helped him sleep at night.

So when he heard you wanted your own separate room he was hurt to say the least. Why did you want your own separate room?

He noticed afterwards that you both started to slowly drift away. He was just to busy to do anything about it. Maybe just maybe if he had paid more attention to you, you would still be here right beside him in his bed.

No. He can’t dwell on whats already been done. He has to continue his work. He can’t let someone ruin it for him.

Even if that someone ran away with his heart in pieces.
