Allegedly Rhaenyra will carry a sword starting next season and it's per Emma D'Arcy's request? Quote from them in a recent interview:
“All the men in the show don’t have to worry about where they put their hands because they’re constantly holding the pommel of their sword. That obviously sounds like innuendo and you can do with that what you will but that is true. And all the rest of us are going, 'Where do we put our f—king hands?' Anyway, next year one hand is going to be taken care of. That’s what I want. I want a sword and I’ve been really clear about that with Ryan and I think that’s happening.”
While I understand that yes! Wouldn't it be cool for a female character to carry a sword and be a warrior queen and fight to change the world? Hell yeah! But is this Rhaenyra's character as it fits into the narrative of the story and universe in which she lives? Absolutely not, never was, and it diminishes the story to alter it so significantly yet again.
And for what? Is the creative team really so clueless about what to do for the writing that they're letting the actors run the show again, just like they've done in the past, including the Mysaria kiss that was never mentioned again and led to nothing? It's very clear that everyone in the creative team has fundamentally incorrect views about this story, it's characters, and the world it's set in.
The failures of this adaptation continue to truly astound and disappoint me in ways I did not think were possible.

what's weird about the fantasy high drama is that like. it seems to me like people forget d&d is primarily a) a game you play with your friends and also b) luck based.
I mean it's fine to say that "nothing felt like a challenge" and "they just dominated everything and there weren't any stakes" but like. it's not as if they weren't up against huge threats. they lost the mall fight. the last stand was an onslaught of enemies. they fought a dozen dragons from an airship. the fights were hard. they're just really good. they've had very good dice luck in general this season and are all very high level and highly specialized. fig is gonna beat deception and performance checks. adaine's gonna figure out the arcana. riz is gonna succeed investigations. like. for some reason their strategical competence and wisely picked abilities are. a downside? a disappointment?
the thing about d&d that you need to remember is it's first and foremost a game. it's mostly random and it takes you down weird paths and you're playing to have fun with your friends. the dice are literally telling the story that it's their time, it's their year. they've struggled enough. they've trained enough. they're good at what they do. and in my post about the academic/domestic/personal stressors being the focus, d&d doesn't have any other system to work them out than rolling different skills. that's what d&d is. brennan set specific challenge levels for different tasks and the players strategized to prioritize which abilities they were strongest in. the challenges were there. and the players rose to them. they were both smart in their delegation of responsibilities and lucky with their dice rolls. of which, both are foundations of d&d.
don't mistake them being good players and getting lucky with there being no hardship. just because they smashed through the wall, that doesn't mean the wall wasn't strong. they were just stronger.

bunter keeping peter from being swallowed up by an evil bog with the kind of hysterical strength otherwise only known by mothers deadlifting cars to save their tender babes is something that can actually be so personal
#lord peter wimsey#mervyn bunter#so jigencore of him honestly. if lupin or peter were inside a irrevocably burning house jigen and bunter would be running#directly and determinedly into the fire to get to their personal Little Guy and that's just the way it is#with the slight distinction that I think bunter might genuinely and uncomplicatedly be *gentle gasp* straight (??? listen i KNOW)#I'm only just about to start book 3 so my opinion is by no means conclusive or comprehensive of course. but those are my vibes#you know how rarely and hesitantly I bestow the 'heterosexual' headcanon upon a beloved blorbo but I think this is one such situation#his attachment and devotion to his silly lil guy seems to come from some far deeper and less readily explicable source#than any such humdrum motives as human sexuality or romantic feeling however sincere could account for lol#it's not exactly parental but sometimes it feels like peter has two moms. his mom. and bunter who actually does most of the mom stuff lol#(or arguably also the wife stuff if we start to look uncomfortably deeply into the overlapping roles in traditional gender politics)#also wrapped up soooo much class stuff and the politics of caretaking physical AND emotional inherent in that#don't worry tho I am seeing rampant queercoding in plenty of other places lol (can we TALK about parker marrying peter's sister.#like ok king. I'm sure that means nothing. also everything about sir impey biggs. what a delight of a character I'm obsessed with him)#(one thing I really noted in clouds of witness is that denver's valet doesn't note Anything about his employer's mail or general mood#can you IMAGINE for even a second bunter not being on top of all of peter's correspondence. not attuned to his emotional state#or interested in his well-being at any moment in time. no you cannot. that is a thing that just would not happen.#I suppose denver does not have the sheer pathetic sad wet cat energy peter has that awakens the protective instinct in people lmao#I jest but I do have deeper thoughts about for all the fantasy of financial independence and freedom from worry he represents#wimsey is right from the getgo a character defined by his vulnerability and interconnectedness -- in being dependent#on the people in his life to help him manage his mental health. he is so fundamentally not a lone detective he's so deeply entrenched#in a social and societal context right from the beginning!!! he seems lonely in many ways but he NEEDS people around him#in a way and with a urgent fragility I feel is rare in the genre and with the tropes at play. and bunter#is in many ways the emotional center of that here in the early days. he keeps peter's world together more than anyone. fascinating stuff#(peter holding on to parker's trenchcoat at the end of whose body hit me so tenderly right behind the ribs my god)

My Most Controversial D20 Fandom Hot Take
Shipping Riz and Fabian misses the point of the thing with Baron. They're friends, and that friendship is valuable/important to both of them, but it's very much not sexual or romantic in the allo sense.
Riz is on some unlabeled part of the ace and/or aro spectra, and ignoring that is really annoying.

"You know I'll forgive all the secret keeping if you make me your first child's godmother." Lyse grinned as the couple got extraordinarily uncomfortable. Just a little revenge for nearly an entire year of hiding the truth of their relationship.
"Lyse, the rest of the world doesn't even know we're together. We're not thinking about children!" Riona was starting to regret not telling her best friend when they got married.
"Oh I don't think it's going to take that long."
"Commander Hext, please. Let us not get ahead of ourselves..."
Alisaie bit her tongue. She couldn't believe she hadn't thought to ask first. Well, maybe she could be the second child's godmother.

It's gotta be Crowley taking off his own glasses next time, OR possibly directly instructing Aziraphale to take them off.
Since their removal is symbolic of Crowley's vulnerability, it would be very powerful to see him make the choice to remove them again.
It would also represent, without the need for dialogue, a healing in their relationship, since during Season 2, Aziraphale's well-intended attempts at being an "us" ended up violating some boundaries. If he waits for Crowley to "let him in" again and Crowley does, that is strong, positive symbolism.

Ace people making silly posts about how they didn’t get allos during the peak of ace discourse were not in fact being homophobic (especially not the teenagers). You try feeling alienated from every community and not making some jokes about how it’s actually everyone else who is weird

(one of) the most frustrating parts about the portrayal of drow society is that it wants to create Reverse Sexism without uncoupling itself from some. pretty foundational patriarchal ideas. it ascribes to the (tired, essentialist) notion that men are inherently good at certain things, and women are inherently suited for different things
but rather than the basic subversion of “women are warriors and men are the homemakers” or even early feminist thought experiments like “traditionally ‘women’s priorities’ are given importance over ‘men’s’ (ie things are governed by council, importance is placed on childrearing, etc)”, menzoberranzan is “this society still holds to patriarchal values and women are not as good at these things which is why it’s demonstrably worse”.
the biggest tell is that they have to control the male population to maintain female dominance, the implication being that in a fair fight, men would easily overpower them. it assumes the misogynist ideas as fact that “women are inherently weaker” and also “women are duplicitous” so the drow fighting style is based on stealth and sabotage rather than “”honorable”” face- to-face combat (letting lie also the assumption that the only avenue for ambition is through military violence, and therefore still making it so that they are reliant on men, even as disposable shock troops, for their success).
the only things that keep women in charge are by stacking the numbers on a systematic level, and through sexual domination on the individual level (because clearly the only real power a woman can have over men is her sexuality).
it is a society where “men act like men” but women don’t act like women; it is evil because an act of god created an aberration against the “natural order” of things, and there is no one to tend the hearth (because if the women won’t do it, no one will)
#there’s just. so much to unpack#call me old fashioned but i think. if you’re trying to subvert something you should first understand how it actually works#now this is also mostly based off of what i read from the first couple drizzt novels and old lore on the wiki so like#it’s possible that they’ve tried to do a spit-polish retcon in 5e#but every time they’ve tried to do that with other things i feel like they also misunderstood the real issue so#either way i don’t have a lot of faith that this would have fundamentally changed#it’s probably just something like ‘yep we acknowledge it’s problematic but that’s bc lolth is eeeeevil so it’s supposed to be bad’#like i’m gonna be honest. i roll my eyes whenever Any fantasy society spends time codifying gender roles in this kind of way#there’s plenty of other races that are like ‘men are warriors and women are homemakers but both are equally important so it’s not sexist!!!#like they’re not just reinventing the wheel of victorian Separate Spheres#but what gets me about this one is how clear it feels that no one thought deeply about it#‘a matriarchy is when women act like men’#i have no source for this but it FEELS like it originated as a reactionary response to second wave feminism#‘women can do the same things men can do?? we should let them in positions of power??#this is what that looks like. checkmate feminists’#honestly i have learned a lot more about the way men think about women from fantasy bc#it rly shows their asses when you’re ostensibly removed from the world we live in#and the things they place importance on#mine#dnd

pretty sure the restriction on streaming certain parts of the game is during early access as it mentions early access in the same paragraph
but im seeing some people think there wont be a lift of this rule....it seems kinda silly not to
even then i doubt people would continue to listen

I have very little care for if a person is "good" or "bad" as long as they do good things tbh. I dont care that youre thinking up 100 ways to kill a man rn as long as you choose to act kindly in real life. Well maybe i just wish this was how everyone approached morality and essence or whatever because i am talking about myself
