When we get a new Frostheim chapter in 10 months and I turn out to be wrong I'm deleting my blog. spoilers until the end of episode 13

Alprazolam: anti-anxiety drug and muscle relaxant. For anxiety, depression, insomnia, and physical symptoms caused by psychosomoatic disorders. Highly addictive.

Jin keeps talking about having what I assume are muscle cramps on his homescreen. Tohma has a physical therapy license because Jin told him to get one. He tells MC to get one too, and asks her to massage his back later. He seems to have more of them after an active day...

Jin 's Homescreen lines hint at anxiety: His April Fool's line:

“Hey, are you all right? …Tsk. If that was a joke, it wasn’t fucking funny. I’ve changed my mind. Cancel all my plans for the day.”

He's normally short-tempered, so it's not really out of character, but could it be that she set off his anxiety and he's reacts by getting angry and also shutting himself in?

Absence at Affinity 13+

“Shit… This is throwing me off. Who does that servant think she is?”

This is one of the stronger reactions to MC's absence. I think it's possible that Jin deals with his anxiety by lashing out at people and acting like it's not personal. And, a little damningly:

His Magic Nightmare Mirror basically showed him Tohma leaving him. He promptly decided to stalk Tohma at night to make sure it wasn't true, even if he later says, "At first I didn't believe it." Was his belief won over by feelings of anxiety, so he decided to follow Tohma to make sure? (And then was even more crushed when it did actually appear to be true?)

When he runs into MC, she describes him like this:

The light from the nearby streat lamp wavered in his eyes, punctuating his uncertainty.

He then takes her hand to guide her to Vagastrom. Later:

MC: But... if Tohma's in Vagastrom now, that means... Jin: ... He's the spy. I felt Jin's hand tighten around mine slightly.

He didn't need to take her hand at all. He could have just told her to follow him. For comfort? To ground himself? Just because he was mad and I'm overthinking things? Specifically inserted for no other reason than shipbait with MC? Not clear to me. On Jin and insomnia:

Jin's quotes start at 5AM-11AM. Most of them imply that he's tired and trying to sleep.

Two of Tohma's 11AM-4PM quotes are involve waking Jin up. In one of them, he says:

“How delightful… It seems our king’s peaceful slumber has yet to be disturbed.”

It could just be sarcasm, but he might just be saying that he's pleased to see Jin sleeping.

Physical symptoms + Psychosomoatic disorders: I didn't know what this was so I googled it:

"A psychosomatic disorder happens when mental stress and distress cause or make a physical condition worse."

Could not being able to use your stigma be considered a physical condition?

The Clash and Frostheim's social environment is probably pretty stressful.

Not much of an argument, since it definitely could be that the stigma stopped for unrelated reasons.

Jin and Depression:

I guess you could theorize that the reason he passed off most of his Dorm Head responsibilities to Tohma is because he doesn't have the energy to do it.

There's nothing in the text to support it though so this doesn't count.

The drug fits 3/5 symptoms, which isn't too bad. I do think that Jin tends to overreact to things and then lash out at people (by people I mean Tohma). Could this be what Tohma told Leo that Jin was a very delicate individual? Plus, something very important that I noticed in the confrontation between Leo and Tohma:

Leo stepped between the two of them (Jin and Tohma, waving a small bag of pills in one hand.

Leo is between the two of them. If he's facing Tohma, he's probably not going to have a clear view of Jin's face.

Leo read from the phone in his free hand, glancing up at Tohma with a tilt of his head.

Tohma smiled nonchalantly. Beside him, Alan clenched his jaw. But Leo only gave an annoyed shrug, fixing his eyes on Tohma's face.

It's more or less spelled out that Leo is staring only at Tohma alone to see how he takes the new. looks at Jin. The writers describe everyone face but his. It could be just coincidence, but it could be a way for the writers to hide the big reveal. The player is never told. The guy who live laugh loves by stealing secrets and blackmailing people never turns around to take a look at the Jin's face. This is isn't really concrete evidence because they really could've just forgot... Maybe Leo's Tohma-hating heart just wanted to catch Tohma red-handed so bad that he couldn't look away... But in my heart I believe... Maybe.... Some questions I thought about:

Leo mentions that the prescription is filled very often and that it's highly addictive. It's possible that Jin developed an addiction or tolerance to the drugs which leads to needing more all at once.

The writers really like foreshadowing this kind of stuff on most of the characters having a "hidden side" to them. Maybe they just ditched accuracy so players could think about Jin's secret? They're pretty limited by 2D models on static backgrounds, so the voice lines are probably the easiest way to hint at the player.

Maybe the symptoms are bad enough that his last dosage wasn't enough to 100% stop it, so now he's actually risking addiction.

Other Misc. Notes

Tohma does actually take medicine (as seen in Chapter 1). I think there could be a twist that he's taking meds completely unrelated to the situation? Maybe the scene was a red herring...

It's a little strange that Tohma carries his pills in a legal prescription bottle vs. Leo just whipping them out in a plastic bag he blackmailed off of a Mortkranken student. Not evidence so much as a point of interest to me. Leo might've just been handed a sample. Or he could've very well just opened the bottle and personally put it in a plastic bag. Who knows?

Tohma's pills are more orange, Leo's pills are more red... This may, however, be entirely due to lighting.

Super in denial at first, compares you to actors he likes or thinks are hot and kinda shelves it. Is MAD jealous that you just somehow look great no matter what (to him hehe)

Realizes he has a crush on you when his usual spank bank material of girls isn't really doing it for him anymore. It's 4am, he's tired and horny and a little drunk... his mind just wandered, okay?!

Daydreamer 100%, but his feelings for you and his feelings for Miss Pauling kinda fuck him up ngl?? Is he a homo or not?? I mean, he likes boobs and lipstick and girls, but the rough and tumbled grease in your stubble just gets him rarin in a way girls didn't.

Bisexual struggles fr. Assuming that you're a Stonewall riot supporter, he'd probably try to roundabout ask if he can experiment with you.

What really set you apart from the other mercs is that you just look good compared to them! Yeah, there are some conventionally attractive guys, but you're h o t.

Soldier

Soldier, like Scout, assumed his attraction to you was something more akin to respect or friendliness. I mean, no other soldier he's ever met sacrificed himself to save him! That takes guts! Yeah, you respawned after, but the honor was still there for him.

Develops or at least tries to develop a friendship like what he with Demoman. He might come off like a very determined puppy, but you know he means well.

Uses you as someone to compare others too. (Ex. "SCOUT! THAT WAS HORRENDOUS TECHNIQUE! TAKE A LOOK AT THAT FINE MAN OVER THERE! DETERMINED! STRONG! TAKE NOTES, PRINCESS!")

When he does realize it's love, he is upfront and honest about his feelings with you. After all, if Jane did like men, he could find more powerful army and recreate that unbeatable ancient army of homosexuals!

Asks around about romance, probably interrogates Medic about how to court another man because let's be honest Medic looks gay as he'll and I will die on the hill that every merc just assumes that man is queer.

Pyro

In Pyroland, you're a prince on a unicorn. You're straight out of a fairy tale. They're overjoyed to have a prince in Pyroland rather than just babies! Yeah, it's fun to be childish, but a whimsical joy that are more complex are fun too!

Absolutely follows you around and talks about you to Engie non-stop. Engie jokes that Pyro might have a crush on you and they seriously consider it. They realize you're attractive when you do a party trick of spitting out Bug spray and lighting it on fire, making it look like you breathe fire.

As you cough and retch at the lingering taste of bug repellant in your mouth, Pyro applauds your trick and keeps trying to talk to you. They eventually are able to communicate to you, asking if you have any more fire tricks. You show them that you can twirl a pencil between all your fingers when the eraser tip is lit up like a candle.

You can kind of tell that they like you romantically, but you're not sure how to tell them that you know. A few chats with Engie tells you all you need to know: Pyro has never pursued a romantic interest, Pyro likes you, and that you can probably get their attention with an honest conversation.

Demoman

The most casual about their realization that they like you- and men in general. Just a peek at you in the showers after a particularly clutch victory caused a few rather dirty thoughts. It wasn't that big of a deal to him and kept his attitude of a drunken "Well, a hole's a hole, I bet he's tight."

Probably offers a little bit of fun after a long night of party, definitely a lot more drunk than usual as he leans a tad too close for friendship. That deep, gravelly, and warm voice growled in your ear with an open offer to join him in his room that night.

If you joined, he wouldn't remember the night and regret that he forgot the night in the morning when you and him snuggle awake. If you decline it's no harm no foul.

One of those types of guys who actually can balance his feelings for you along with his friendship- he keeps the ball in your court and stayed professionally friendly, maybe a tad brotherly competitive.

Heavy

This man is an iron wall to hide his feelings. He had the idea that he just wasn't the type to want a relationship- which was fine, more time to work to keep his family safe- but then you jumped out into danger to protect him. He was on the brink of death and you selflessly risked your life for him! Yeah, you both respawned, but it was the gesture that mattered!

His eyes trailed you a lot more often, like a security camera. He pretended to be read his book, but he knew exactly where you were. Medic is the first to notice this change.

Medic asks about Heavy's feelings for you, since Heavy had never ordered Medic to go heal anyone else before! Hell, the both of you tended to stay behind Heavy during battles after that, so you two had a sense of closeness.

When you all went out on a trip to the beach, Heavy loved watching you in the water, and even allowed himself to be dragged in by you to play water polo with Soldier and Demoman. He's a long game of chess, hopefully you can win him over!

Is a bit more protective of you out of battle, but that's something only the people he threatens is aware of.

Engie

Oh fucking god holy shit what the hell man's fucking gay PANICS. DELL IS HEARTSTOPPINGLY FROZEN IN FEAR WHEN HE REALIZES THAT HE LIKES MEN.

All you did was scale a chainlink fence with ease, albeit with a small growling as the metal dug into your fingers. Dell swallowed the feeling thickly. He didn't mean to stare at your ass, really! It just sorta... happened.

And then it happened again as he kneeled to construct a sentry. Then when he was sat down at the kitchen table as you walked by. The only time he didn't catch a glance was when you turned to him with a smug look and a "if you wanna look at my ass, you could just ask."

He knows a lot of gay cowboy culture, but was far too scared to go ahead with a few of the gestures. Although, you weren't as shy, giving him a grey handkerchief when he spillied oil on himself.(translation: grey handkerchief=bondage kink)

Finally- FINALLY! He offers you his hat on a very hot day with his head looking straight at the ground.(translation: if a cowboy puts his hat on your head, y'all fucking)

Sniper

In the top 3 of "chillest reactions to realizing he likes men", but barely on the podium yk?

Mick was doing some target practice and had lost track of time, his pot of coffee and snack pile had been long empty. Right as he was about to get up to stretch his legs, he saw you on the last rung to the ladder of his nest. "Oh hey Snipes! You missed lunch and dinner, 'decided to check in on our favorite sharpshooter." When you stay for a few moments and hand him the bottles of water and leftovers from dinner, he realized that nobody made him feel that loved.

You just being kind sends him into a "did he do that to hit on me? Does he do this to everyone?" Yeah he panics about everything you do, but not because you're a man- it's because a crush is a crush to him!

Sniper does genuinely try to show interest, but in a subtle way like inviting you out to take a smoke break, target practice, maybe offer to let you join him to survivalist camp for a few days.

Spy

Silver medalist of the chill reaction podium, mainly because he laments to himself about all the potential money he had lost by not seducing more men in his more freelance espionage days. He could have hooked up with Saxton Hale to swindle that oaf out of millions- if he had thought of that.

Does a full background and thorough investigation into your personal life, how you reacted to the huge news event of Stonewall, if you had ever hooked up with a man, anything to see if he had a chance to sneak into your dating pool.

He treats you a lot like how he treats the women he seduces, but has to overcome how you brush him off casually like a man. Women were a language Spy speant years studying, so much so that he seldom kept up with the more masculine way of communicating.

At his wit's end, he just asks you bluntly. "Listen, I find you hot. I've been trying to get into your pants for almost 2 months now, do you want to have sex?"

Medic

This man already knew he was gay before you pulled up, sorry. BUT BUT BUT you are the first crush he's had! Yeah, he knew he liked the idealized version of a man he made up in his head, but you are better than the fictional men in books!

Despite the stereotype for Medic, he didn't fall for you when he saw you on his operating table. You and Engie were theorycrafting about hypothetical cybernetic enhancements. Engie had said something biologically inaccurate about the immune system, and before Medic could interrupt your private conversation, you corrected Engie! Not in a demeaning way, but in a way that clearly showed that you had a love for biological science. Medic's heart skipped a beat.

Constantly offering you new enhancements for your body and coddles you about painful proedures (he actually gives you anathesia! How sweet!) and sends his experimental ideas to you for a betaread over. For Medic, that's essentially a confession in and of itself!

Has written your name in little hearts on his note margins and uses you as his anatomy sketch references when he needs to visualize the human skeleton.

GoW Headcanons!!

So today's theme is...Cooking! What does he like to eat? Does he like to cook? If so, what are Kratos' cooking skills like?

I honestly think that Kratos is not the most open person to trying new flavors, much less if it is food from someone he doesn't know very well.

Still, I think because of his homeland and the customs there in Greece, I guess it's not too difficult to get him to eat vegetables (This is based on the diets of the Spartans and the information I could get about them). But considering his physique, training, and the cold environment of Midgard meat will be his first choice when it comes to eating something simple.

Ngl, I don't think he likes to cook

If someone asks Kratos to cook something, (And if they manage to convince him) he will probably go reluctantly and mumbling (Something like the deleted scene from GoW 2018: "I'm the fucking god of war..." maybe he would say something like that lmao).

Even so, considering that Kratos, Atreus and Mimir live alone, the most obvious thing is that Kratos must cook what they hunt during the day.

Very simple meals, Atreus and Mimir are already used to it (If Atreus complains, Kratos will probably tell him he'll cook next time 💀).

The type of person who eats slowly. The other people sitting at the table may have finished their plate and Kratos is still there eating.

Picky eater (medium level). If he sees something he doesn't like on his plate he will simply leave it there on the plate, even if he has never tried it in his life (He just like me fr).

*vibrating in eager but non-pressuring excitement* bad end AU you say 👀 ngl the thought of everybody sticking their noses in in different circumstances is both funny and touching considering those circumstances are alastor being pressured into something he's not actually enjoying! would there be some parallels to his arc in your fic with mimsy? what makes the difference with vox? is it that mimsy has no interest whatsoever having sex with somebody who's not into it, but vox has no such hangups?

(Ask is re: the fact that my original and now deleted outline for the rut fic installment of 666 was a bad end option where Vox's pressure and Alastor's self-gaslighting led them down a path I probably would have had to tag as 'non-con' of some flavor.)

The difference isn't just between Vox and Mimzy, it's also in how I was choosing to write Vox for the rest of 666, too, haha. Which is: As someone who gives more of a shit!

The bad end option would have been an interpretation of his character as more leaning toward "genuinely wanting to get one over Alastor", rather than "wanting to get one over Alastor because he felt rejected, and thus suddenly being un-rejected prompting him to roll back some of the aggro." I think both are valid, but I knew what I preferred.

And there definitely would have been parallels on Alastor's end! It was take that was leaning into an angle of considering Alastor as someone who takes into consideration how he thinks things should be, both in terms of some of his more traditional perspectives, but also as his primary point of reference for relationships. So: Yes, he's uncomfortable. No, he doesn't say 'no' at any point, because he thinks this is appropriate. Yes, it gets much farther along than it would have with Mimzy, because the version of Vox that let this shit happen in the first place is either too busy exalting in what he's getting to do, or outright doesn't much care about (or perhaps simply doesn't understand, in comparison to their previous two encounters) Alastor's genuine discomfort, or both, and is fine being a wheedling asshole about it; and Alastor himself is less inclined to argue his discomfort with someone like Vox than he is with Mimzy.

The main reasons I ended up not going with this was because 1) it was honestly a depressing outline, HAH, and also 2) I had an inkling that I was going to want to continue writing these fics, and it would have been a harder sell to develop both Vox and the relationship the way I wanted to, not to mention justify why the fuck Alastor would want to continue (unless I went with "to prove something to himself," which, uh, wasn't the dead dove angle I wanted to take).

In the end, though, thinking through this route helped a lot with characterizing how I did end up writing the rut fic, which was with a similar function but opposite purpose: Alastor was still uncomfortable and it still propelled him into understanding more about his own discomfort (things that are not a coincidence: that he hasn't gotten his dick involved in any of their shenanigans since then). However, with Vox bending over backwards to try to please Alastor and lure him in with honey instead of vinegar, they ended up with Alastor realizing that Vox is capable of coming through for him, and Vox realizing that Alastor is, like, an actual person, and not just The Object Of His Obsession And Hate And Adoration.

I can make it so fucked up/Colour me intrigued: Self-explanatory. Just, the tension in each interaction, and them being the very definition of kill me romantically. Just everything is personal with them. Eliza can't decide if she wants to kill China, be her or fuck her. Meanwhile, Eliza is a reminder of a past and her old self which she both really rather leave behind. Since they were both part of the Faceless Church, their idea of romance back then has the potential to be so messed up and I do love some (self)destructive love archetypes <3

They're exes: Landy did Eliza so dirty by writing her as the biter ex archetype and giving her like no other personality traits. Even her name is based on that! Scorn -> "Hell has no fury like a woman scorned"

Basically canon to me: And then he has the audacity to claim he never admitted China and Eliza were canonly a thing during the war. There is a reason Sorrowscorn was considered a canonship along with Ganith for the longest time. But he either deleted the tweet or it was an answer on the SP forums which have been shut down by now.

They're the same fucking guy: Landy also did her dirty by making her the colour-swapped, lesser version of China. She, like China, has the ability to make anyone she comes across fall instantly in love with her, though it is established that this power is not as strong as China's, she is a rival collector and information broker to China and she very likely also chose symbol magic as her adept discipline as the glowing daggers she threw seem very similar to what China was shown to be able to do with her sigils. Her personality is also pretty much just wartime China. Since she is the weaker of the two she was very likely the one copying China instead of developing her own strengths and weaknesses. This shows a weakness of character that puts her in a power imbalance with China and also prevents her to climb the ranks of the Faceless church beyond her current position.

Fated Enemies/There is no way this will end well: And that's why their relationship could never last. That's why she could never be more than China's plaything. Seeing so much of herself in Eliza fed her ego and narcissism. She loved herself so of course she would love someone so much like herself. But when she changed and Eliza didn't...

They Enable the worst in each other: Accurate for both wartimes, pushing each other into new extremes since they are rivals as much as lovers trying to impress each other. In the present day, as enemies, Elize definitely brought out China's old 'sharp' self while they were fighting each other.

In a relationship not sure what the relationship is but they are in one: Self-explanatory.

Oh, the devotion/inherit eroticism of attempted murder: 👀👀👀👀

Thematically delicious: Ngl I have a thing for relationships doomed from the start. During the war they were birds of a feather. She found kin in Eliza since she has the same curse ability to make people fall in love with her. Finally, she has someone who understands the hardships that effect brings, finally, someone is immune to it, and finally someone's feelings are real. Now, China is a fallen idol in Eliza's eyes. Someone who she looked up to and wanted to be like now no more than a traitor. Not only did she abandon the church, she had abandoned HER too. And she hates the fact that she knows she would forgive China in an instant would she return to her. To China Eliza is a reminder of a past and an old self she'd rather leave behind. Landy said in a tweet that Eliza would kill China eventually (that was before phase 2 was announced and I think he deleted that tweet) but I think it would be more fitting if China would kill Eliza and quite frankly, Eliza would have it no other way.

Deleted Excerpt from Rancor and Risotto

So ngl I have kinda a basic outline that I am following for my Azris fic: Rancor and Risotto, but am mostly pantsing it. I wrote this blurb (one of the first ideas I wrote, actually) hoping to include it somewhere in there(would have been chapter 7 but I digress) but I don't think it will work after the events of Chapter 5 (which plz feel free to check out).

So yeah, enjoy what could have happened:

“Oh by the way,” Azriel addresses Rhys from his position leaning against the doorframe, “consider this my two weeks notice.” Eris can’t help but laugh internally as he watches his mate use both of his beautiful scarred hands to flip off the High Lord of the Night Court. His mate is such an idiot. He fucking loves him.

Rhysand opens his mouth to respond but he is immediately cut off by the boisterous laughter of Cassian and Feyre. The daemati’s eyes widen as-if he cannot believe the sight in front of him. Eris, for once, can’t put the fault with Rhysand. For he himself can’t even keep a straight face as he witnesses Azriel’s shadows follow suit. The lively tendrils morph together and shape themselves into ten different hands around their master. Then like the cheeky shits they were, they lift their shadow-formed middle fingers and flip off Rhys. Eris feels the two shadows around his wrist and the one around his neck shift in excitement, as if they are proud of their brethren.

“They can do that?” Rhysand asks incredulously. Azriel just smirks.

Contingency Contract is upon us! It's designed to be fully modular, so just pick which risks you feel comfortable with and have a go. Don't get discouraged by how overwhelming it can be at first. It can be quite fun to make the perfect match between the risks you pick and the operators you go with.

babey's first CC clear... It took me a few tries to clear without any risks, albeit with the "no guards or supporters" thing already in mind. Once I finally cleared it, realized I could add on three risks ($$$ guards and supporters, max squad size 10, 1 base health) without changing up my strategy at all.

Later I did a similar run with the class toggle flipped (aka the Gubbles Learn Not to Over-Rely on Manticore Challenge™). This was woefully scuffed. The first attempt was ended prematurely when the battery in my mouse died partway through, and the second had a number of egregious tactical errors. I know how to better pull it off, but I somehow managed to clear it on try 2 so fuck it I'll take it

I was also able to pull off one of the early challenge missions (smth like "ur attack suck" and "edgy slicey boi have more hp" combo). From that I finally learned how powerful the combined slow from Manticore + Suzu really is, it's like. TURBO SLOW. er, um. extra slow. jumbo slow. molasses. paint dry. whatever u get the picture For all of em I had to borrow a friend's Kyato, and ngl I still kinda feel like I cheated? But when presented with the choice of dual-bladed delete cannon or literally not being able to clear the base stage at all... I suppose I'll take the victory supported by friends >w>`

Hard content is hard, babey player is babey, and life always finds a way to intervene. Lack of interest, hyperfocus on N64 development, hyperfocus on beating Perfect Dark for the first time, chronic illness, mental illness, going outside for walks on the precious two (2) days it didn't feel like instant heatdeath outside. Y'know, the usual. But given that this is the last CC-- and also the first CC I was even able to participate in-- I gotta say, I wish I got to it sooner. Generally speaking, challenging content usually ain't my thing unless I'm really interested in taking it on. And in the context of arknights, I've been burned out enough by the difficulty curve of the events and complexity of managing a ton of ops to really seek any of it out. But while even the risk 3 CC was difficult... I had fun! Eliminating certain classes got me to better think of how to get the most of what ops I had available. A stronger boss and squishier ops got me to think more critically about how to keep my ops alive through the onslaught, and to discover a pretty powerful combination of slows to crank the most out of what DPS I could manage. I bet I could've managed to squeeze in a risk 4, even, if I hadn't taken it all on in the last two days of the very last CC. Not recognizing an appreciation or enjoyment of something until it's just about gone... kind of an ongoing theme with my life lately, eh? It was my first real CC, but I'm gonna miss it. Oh also the music. The music straight up kicks ass.

Also someone borrowed my Vulcan a bunch fsr?? I know who took out Manticore that one time, but as for Vulcan's eight excursions up to risk fucking ten, I've no clue who brought her along for that ride. Oh god. I've never written for it but ngl wolfstar has a soft spot in my heart. But there are so many and for the sake of not providing a documented list of everyone I've shipped before I'll leave it at that.

What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

My Purple Hyacinth fic. I love it so far, but I just got so burnt out in the middle of working on it. And I have trouble picking up fics when I haven't touched them in too long. I still have it outlined and probably like 1/3 of the way done. So I'm holding out a sliver of hope. But realistically, I probably won't finish it.

What are your writing strengths?

Uhhh no idea. Over the years I've definitely seen a lot of improvement in my descriptive style. Showing, not telling. And I think I've gotten a lot better at making my writing compelling. The first time someone told me that my writing made them cry I also cried.

What are you writing weaknesses?

So much. 😭 I find that dialogue often runs away from me and I get sidetracked, or it sounds clunky and unnatural. Also characterization. I tend to want to make my characters 1 million percent soft and huggable and forgetting that they are quite flawed. Also plot. I can write out a series of vignettes like nobody's business but an actual plot is hard. I've only written something with a genuine plot a few times, and only one of those got published.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

It's why I didn't include any of Pavitr speaking in Indian associated languages. I don't want to do a bad job on it, and would be too nervous about accidentally appropriating someone's culture. Or just generally making an ass out of myself by writing something silly. Maybe something to work on?

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

Wrote and published? Dsmp. That fic has been deleted (it's for the best) but my first fic on my profile is still a dsmp work. Unpublished, my first fanfiction was probably for the Lunar Chronicles. Specifically Cress and Thorne.

What's your favorite fic you've ever written?

Love Causes Trouble

It is not the most popular of my fics by a long shot, but it's one of my favorites. If I went back and rewrote it there are a lot of things I would change about it. A lot. It's very imperfect but I'm just such a slut for 60s/70s queer love, for artists and writers falling in love and for tragic endings. A bit kill your gays, but I'm at peace with that.

I also like this one because it has a few personal ties to me and because it got such a good reception. I got so many comments saying that this helped them process their grief or it was really cathartic to read so it means a lot to me.

Ramuda really is such an interesting person to study. He does require the candy to live. But he will go to a cafe and order a giant sundae or assortment of sweets. Does all candy have a similar effect to the ones made by Chuuo (Rei?) , only weaker, or does he just enjoy sweets as well? Or is he just keeping up the facade or enjoying cute sweet things? I think he does enjoy sweet things by nature and this mostly isn't for ahow, but I wonder if his tolerance to other more healthier foods is different. Do they hurt him to some degree if he eats too much? Would he have to compensate with more sweets after?? 🤔..

I have considered starting a writing blog several, several times... but I am a very flaky person who runs when someone acknowledges me without anonymity. Ramuda truly is interesting!!! I believe it's just the candies that have the 'keep you alive' effect for him, which is why he was so desperate to get more, esp in the battle between the clones that happened. I'm still unsure of how he got more since I haven't read the specific drama track of when it happened.

Something in the back of my head tells me they either stole more candies from the Ramu clones or somehow got Rei to give them more. Unsure though fdjsjifelwfewf.

I think it's also interesting, especially with a character as inherently deceitful as Ramu, to say that he orders those cutesy and sweet things out in public- just because he enjoys them.

Think of it- a lot of his original outside persona hinges upon being seen as unserious, silly, too cute to be suspicious in any way. It'd be natural to assume that he fits his aesthetics to do the same.

But if that were true, and everything is just related to his persona, why would his bedroom be the same aesthetic? You'd think his bedroom would be the only place he can be feel, maybe not even decorating it at all if he doesn't see himself as human in the first place. But in merch and (I think) in the manga, his bedroom fits the aesthetic of his seemingly 'fake' persona.

I think, Ramuda truly does enjoy all the sweets and all the pastels and whatnot he surrounds himself with. Sure, he may have been consuming to survive and keep up appearances, but at this point in the story it has to be just him wanting to do it.

I think it's sweet to imagine that what used to make him think he was inhuman (the fake persona and his outward appearance) becomes the something he truly enjoys, something that makes him feel human

It is hard to choose between ALL of his bits in Jugs and Rods or the Grog and Tary shopping adventure in Vasselheim. Critical Role has TONS of funny moments and there is stuff in every campaign that has really gotten to me--but nothing like this. My abs ached the next day, I was fully weeping real fucking tears over this. I am laughing just thinking about it as I am typing. Fucking iconic.

Idea for a story

I have never considered a story with Tary specifically, but you know I'd love a story that explored Tary getting back together with Lawrence and how that aspect of their love story played out! I feel like that could be a very fun romance piece.

Unpopular opinion

Genuinely an incredible character, not as a joke, not for the bit. I mean, Tary is hilarious, yes. But I don't think Sam gets enough credit for how GOOD Tary was beyond the bit. He's a top tier character and deserves more credit from the fandom for it.

Favorite relationship

I'll split this one with Percy and Vex. Tary ends up being such good friends with both of them and his friendship with Vex is something I find particularly endearing (another Sam + Laura dynamic coming through golden) and then you add the layer of Tary's close friendship and unrequited pining for Percy into the mix....that whole dynamic of the three of them is great.

Favorite headcanon

I should really just delete this question because I never have headcanons to add. Idk. I don't really do head canons.

Probably my favorite of Vox Machina, not counting Tary. I don't know, he really grew on me. I think Scanlan circles around similar themes that all of Sam's PCs do, which is why I tend to gravitate toward them, you know? The eternal struggle of wanting to appear okay for your friends because you can't or won't invite the vulnerability of being honest about how you're struggling, only to hit a breaking point and lose it because no one has noticed your pain (because you have hidden it)? All the inherent complications and contradictions of that sort of thinking? Feels very realistic and relatable, for me, at least.

Favorite moment

It's so easy to choose The Bard's Lament for this. WHAT an incredible dramatic character move. Unparalleled, dramatic, complex, and it added so much to Scanlan's character and the dynamic with the group, forcing VM to sit with some things (and to get angry at him! Because he was unfair too!). I loved that shit, I ate it up.

But also, Scanlan's return to VM and trying to Modify Memory on Vex only to whiff it and her just hugging him. I fucking love that, too.

Idea for a story

You know, the thing is, this question is tickling some kind of memory of mine that I had actually planned to write something about Scanlan/Pikelan and I just cannot remember what on earth it was going to be. I can't even think of anything else, I'm just annoyed I can't remember what I was going to do, now

Unpopular opinion

I don't think Scanlan blowing up at VM and saying unfair things to them makes him a bad person or selfish or [insert whatever other thing here]. I think he was unwell, and had some valid reasons to be upset, and spoke in anger in a very human moment wherein neither party was entirely wrong or right. People apply judgement to that scene a lot, I think because it's very emotionally jarring, it's aggressive and unexpected and it prompts strong feeling because of that, but I don't think there's any judgment to be applied. VM was wrong about some things, Scanlan was wrong about some things. A big bundle of tragically human conflict, honestly, which is why it's fantastic.

Favorite relationship

Probably Grog. I love that whole corner of VM (Grog and his gnomes) and all their dynamics, but you can really feel such a camaraderie and care between these two that I love. Also Vex (that Sam + Laura dynamic always hits, I suppose)

I don’t think I can ever forgive Highest for turning my private fuck up into public gossip and I find it actually disgusting and violating that they made a public Tumblr post asking for my freak out even though they were in Big Sob and the archive server and could’ve asked there. They knew how the Anticare vent blog community hated my fuckin guts and they still brought what was a private situation that had already been resolved to public view and I suffered for it. There was legit no need for them to do that. The people who hate me blame me for others panic attacks, even when I go as far as to publicly go ‘don’t fucking harrass those people’ but I was never given that grace in return. I literally got sick from how panicked I was, I knew I fucked up and did what I could to make up for it, but I was considered crazy and fucked up for being worried about this being made public. I got accused of finding CSAM funny and it seemed everyone went ‘yeah this is fine’ bc if any of them truly believed that it was my fault that the people I talked about, who btw did all their shit publicly and not in a private discord server, then it’s Highest and anyone else who blabbed about mes fault that I got harassed and actually had a breakdown and got sick from it. Then after they deleted the post they answered asks referring to it, which again reignited the drama and also gave me ANOTHER panic attack and triggered my anxiety.

Everyone in the archival server KNEW I was hated by the vent blog/anti care community for how outspoken I was and because I got heated, I got blamed for Mod Polly deactivating their blogs (I mean the ones they had after the initial one) even when I never interacted with them after the initial situation, I was just a scapegoat.

I don’t hate everyone in the server, a lot of them were good people who I loved hanging out with, but the way they treated me when I fucked up and apologized for it was shitty and hurt me in so many ways. This shit is gonna stick with me for a long ass time, and it wouldn’t have been half as bad if Highest didn’t treat it like gossip and ask to see my non existent freak out on tumblr, why couldn’t you ask on discord Highest? You had to know what saying my name like that on tumblr would’ve done, I can’t help but feel you wanted me to get harassed.

I’m fine with being hated by people I don’t know, but the fact that someone I was friendly with turned me into entertainment basically haunts me even now, it made me feel like I wasn’t even a person. I trusted those people, I made a stupid fucking dark joke because I trusted theyd know I wasn’t serious and I accepted that I had crossed a line and then they made it fucking public and Highest wouldn’t even communicate with me one on one when it happened. None of them could even give me the grace of speaking to me, like I wasn’t worth the effort and my fears were meaningless.

I had to beg someone to play middle man for me, legit no one seemed to be willing to actually communicate with me when I wanted to ensure the issue was dealt with and all anyone did was tell me to ignore it while I was having back to back panic attacks and feeling like I was all on my own. It made me feel like I was crazy and I hated it, and again, I had to do all this while I was so sick I was struggling not to vomit and could barely eat or sleep, I was a mess. I just wanted to ensure that the situation would pass and no one was exaggerating what I did and it was treated as a chore when one of their people were the ones who made it public, not me. I quietly left to avoid causing any drama, but somehow it was my fault for bringing it up when I wasn’t even the one who brought it to public attention in the first place.

I also find it incredibly suspect that I got that anon ask accusing me of finding CSAM funny legit right after I sent Highest an ask asking them to not talk about me publicly, and I’m tired of not saying anything about that to keep the peace, fuck the peace, this fandoms always crashing and burning and I’m sick of being told to ‘just leave it’ especially after I got dragged into the public after I tried to quietly leave.

I hope KC and her group of groomer fucks go to jail or the psych ward and get help and never hurt anyone ever again, I hope all the victims get therapy, I hope everyone moves on from Sparklecare, I hope that every minor that’s still around is safe because this fandom is full of freaks and it’s not safe for them here, and I hope one day I’ll stop feeling so shitty whenever I think about what happened to me here, because god I want to move on so bad but the shitshow that happened to me after my fuck up keeps taunting me even when I’m trying to sleep right now.

B: Any of your stories inspired by  personal experience?

One of my old RWBY fics is me angsting about my neurodivergency via the lens of Professor Ozpin. NGL, I'm considering deleting it, it's... embarassing, and not my best work.

On top of that, the backstory for one of my WoW OCs was based on, for lack of a better term, my daddy issues. It's a fucking cringe backstory and it just turned melodramatic and I'm so glad I reworked it.

But for a more light-hearted response, it's a fic I'd like to write. When I was young, one of my teeth was loose. I complained about it to my older brothers, and one of them responded with: "Oh, your new tooth is going to grow into a vampire tooth" ...or something along those lines. Knowing my younger self, she was terrified and probably cried.

I think it's a perfect concept for Klint and Barok van Zieks!

F: Share a snippet from one of  your favorite dialogue scenes  you've written and explain why  you're proud of it.

As much as I want to post a snippet from my roleplaying on WoW, I won't, because it will require a paragraph of lore-dumping, which I am prone to do at a moments notice, just read any of my AU fics.

I have a LOT of WIPs, and some of them do have dialogue I quite enjoy. However, one of them just takes the cake: it's from an AU inspired by Baldur's Gate 3 (a very good game!) and tried to work within the canon of Dungeons and Dragons. In it, Klint is a bard of eloquence, rather than a ranger. I decided to make Balmung his stuffed hell-hound that Mama van Zieks made for him and he cherishes deeply, and my favorite dialogue is Klint talking to that Balmung:

”What was I thinking, Balmung?!“ No one would hear him, he had wards specially installed to prevent that. In here, he was free to talk how loud he wanted to an inanimate object, and no one to judge him for it, either! “Acting like some sort of seductress, touching her with my bare hands!” He gives Balmung a squeeze. “I don't want to be a harlot, and, I must have frightened her terribly with these talons of mine.”

This too, which happens some lines later:

“Hells!” He snatches his head back in. “Can you believe this, Balmung?” The dog did not respond, on account of being just a stuffed animal.

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

First off, Guillermo del Toro. He is one of my idols and I look up to his storytelling a lot. I love that he does not sacrifice color to tell dark stories, and that his works have taught me to accept that I'll write what I want! Another one is Zack Morrison who writes and draws the webcomic Paranatural, which I have kept up with since high school. They made the swap to a blend of writing and art sometime in 2021, and the descriptiveness and cleverness of the writing has made my jaw drop.

Next, Another one is Eiichiro Oda. That man can casually reference something he wrote hundreds of chapters ago, and no matter how crazy things get, it feels perfectly plausible within the world of One Piece. But unfortunately it's come at a cost due to him being a mangaka, and I must stress the importance of taking care of yourself before anything else.

These two are well-known for their diverse cast of characters, and Zack Morrison does little, but effective things to make the characters stand out even more in the mixed setting and it's genius. However, an honorable mention to Andrew Hussie and Homestuck, for popularizing the concept of using limited things in text like numbers and cases to distinguish the characters.

Now, the next is sillier: Elizabeth Hoyt and Tessa Dare. Yes, they crank out regency romance novels but they know their niche, damn it! My first romance novel was Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt, and it's helped me really come to terms with the fact that what I read is not necessarily what I want. I love the fantasies romance novels bring, but the idea of actually BEING in a romance makes me want to run away screaming!

thank you for reading Children of the Red Dust! my pride and joy :D but since you know me from word of honor I.. kind of guess why you would be confused by my previous post about my “fandoms of interest”, as u say.

so, originally (I believe it was around either 2017 or 2018, cannot guarantee on that I’m afraid) this was a side-blog spurred from my need to compartmentalize and gush about my experience of re-reading a few of my favorite fics from the hobbit fandom. back then, in fact, I was in a slump and needed to pick myself up. so I decided to revisit fandoms who had brought me joy in the past, one of which was the bagginshield ship. hence a “nostalgia” blog!

coincidentally, one of the authors of a particular fic among those would have later on (in 2020) influenced my decision to try reading mdzs since they were considering writing a fic about it. they were (and still are!) one of my favorite fic authors, so I trusted them completely on that and that’s how I stepped into the world of danmei!

oh, where do I start! that’s a tough one bc I’m mostly vibing in here?? like. don’t get me wrong, I love the show as it is and I do enjoy the lore behind it a great deal. I’m mostly absorbing the content and let it either shock me or impress me depending on what’s on screen. I do see the flaws but I honestly don’t care about them. I’m just vibing, as I said. but I do like to see people posting meta about the reasoning behind each character! and I love reading about the actors’ ideas behind their back stories and motivations!

my ship of choice is mostly based on the fact that I do like me some toxic-ladies-twice-divorced energy in the room and I should add that I haven’t probably been able to watch killing eve yet just so I could prepare my tastebuds with the hotd female leads first. I especially love the modern!au edits I’m seeing floating around and for now that’s enough to keep me from starving until the new season arrives.

Who Holds The Devil. seriously, my anxiety has been so bad recently but there she glows, the most massive brain in the universe, bringing us frequent updates despite her busy schedule (and, apparently?? she wrote an entire 100k words fic in the strangers from hell fandom on a whim?? so if that’s your vibe you can go feast on that baby and have a fucking party while you’re at it. thank me later)

no but for real. it’s almost camp. almost. the drama, I mean. all it needs is a feathered boa and it checks out. outlandish villains that do be sounding a little too similar to IRL egotistical capitalist pigs, dangerous pretty ladies, rich bitches (Kang YoHan included), mysteries™️, boytoys and sassy teenagers. there are a few complains I have, ngl, but the vibes are immaculate imo. I would also offer, in a similar vein, kdramas like little women (a recent favorite of mine!), beyond evil (a classic at this point) and, on a bigger scale, the glory (which I have yet to watch, contrary to the first two).

3. helluva boss :

this one caught me off guard, ngl. I used to see it trending on tumblr often but thought it was just the most recent western brand of animation that people get hooked on for the witty dialogue and vaguely philosophical themes being explored (as u can see idk anything about these things, I thought it was similar to adventure time or smth, the fool that I was!). what I got instead was great animation and complex three-dimensional characters overall. now I’ve rewatched the entirety of the available episodes perhaps ten times. honestly, my anxiety really needed that.

as with hotd, I’m just vibing.. but I’m very engaged. I felt almost euphoric at the thought that animators and artists could just.. have fun with it? I’m sure there’s an enormous amount of work involved in the production of every single episode, so I’m just leaning back and enjoy the show. bad gays are hella entertaining and I’m here for it. coincidentally, around the same time I started actively watching the series I found out about a new queer short film that is being developed called the lovers! it’s gonna be a long wait but it’s gonna be worth it :D

4. don’t hug me I’m scared :

this was a fun one. when it first came out (idr when tho) I remember being very uncomfortable with the material. it reminded me of Flat Eric, a yellow puppet used in dance music videos of some artist or smth: it used to terrify me as a child and dhmis evoked the same reaction out of me in the beginning. but then I watched some video essay on the matter and I grew more accustomed to the feel of it and became interested in the though process behind it instead. first video I watched on the topic was about an interpretation of the show through an autistic perspective and the other was a.. I believe a 3 or 4 hours video making an overview on the whole lore behind it.

I’m not very interested in “finding out what does this all mean” or anything of the sort. I’m just here for the cosplays xD no but really, people are so inventive! and they make merchandise and dolls and drawings and full on costumes all on their own! that’s creative as fuck! and it’s unsettling and evocative at the same time. I’m baffled by everyone’s talents and I’m merely wishing to be as good as them ahah.

5. dune & the hunger games :

not sure how this happened. I have read the latter series but not the first, I don’t have time for that. but I can digest a movie or two and the visuals are very interesting to me! also I am a bene gesserit simp and I hate them and their ways in equal measure. idk why but that’s how it is. similarly, I want to see how the cast for the prequel of hunger games does! I’ve heard the lovely viola davis is in it and I’m thrilled to see her being unhinged :D

but mostly, I re-evaluated the entire hunger game trilogy by reading meta posts and fics exploring the story from different perspective in the past and this new movie reignited the interest for the time being, so I’m excited to give it a try! dune, on the other hand, is new for me and it’s helping me bond with my dad on our shared love for sci-fi. what’s not to love??

6. succession :

I’m honestly not sure about this one. I plan to look more into it but idk when I will have the time ahah. if nothing it will entertain me with rich people drama which is always obnoxiously fun to tap into when capitalism fucks me over one way or another. we will see!
