So I looked which ships are the most popular, and it seems "Randy and Oliver" and "Ebenezer and Norm" are. So here you have them kissing (their designs are from my AU called "Typical Anime Sim").

Dialtown is a dating simulator, but all the characters have items for heads, and you play as a heavily pregnant cryptid entity with green skin and a rotary phone made out do flesh for a head named Phonegingi. They need to get into a funfair to lay their eggs, however they’re broke. Luckily, the funfair is having a 2 for 1 deal on tickets for Valentine’s Day! So now, Phonegingi goes around town, looking for a date to take them to the funfair! So the options are Randy the insecure Nokia who works as a sex-hotline operator and a swan wrestler, Karen the autistic printer who works at a bank, Oliver the geeky wall phone who works at his adoptive dad’s cinema, and Bigfoot! Or, you could get yourself banned from the town, which is called Dialtown, and meet Norm, the outcasted hypothetical astrophysicist cowboy, who is my personal favorite character.

Next, Dayshift at Freddy’s 1 is a horror RPG by DirectDogman, the creator of Dialtown. The protagonist of Dayshift at Freddy’s is Jack Kennedy. Jack is dead. He died in a springlock failure while working his minimum wage pizzeria job. He was falsely accused of the murder of his little sister Dee. Now, Jack gets a job at Freddy Fazbender’s Pizzeria, run by a dude with a rotary phone for a head, Steven Stevenson. Steven hasn’t seen his wife and kids in years due to the work contract he signed saying he wasn’t allowed to leave. Unfortunately, Jack is have stupid and signs the same contract. Now, this is where Jack meets his boyfriend Dave in the off-camera Safe Room. Dave and Jack go on a child-killing spree, give each other pet names, and other couple activities. Now, Steven is not pleased with this because it’ll get his restaurant shut down. Steven decides to work with the police to throw a false birthday party to catch Dave and Jack trying to kill a kid. This is a success, and Dave and Jack get caught. Well you see, Dave anticipated this and fixed up the deadliest animatronics, who kill the cops and allow Dave and Jack to burn down the pizzeria and run away to Las Vegas. The game has two sequels.

Buried: Nugget from kindergarten. Yeah I'll admit my description in the submission wasn't all that great but anyways, this toddler one day decided to start digging a hole into the schoolyard sandbox and did not stop until eventually he dug through the bottom of the box and over time created what is lovingly known as the "Nugget cave," a big hole in the ground. Buried behavior

Dark: Charles/ Black Bart from no evil. "I command this dark abyss that lays waste to hundreds- he should fear me, I shall be the neo-lord of the night!" <- actual quote from the character. He controls what is known as the black tezcatlipoca or "black ick" that covers people and sends them into an endless sleep. Need I say more

Stranger: koko the clown from betty boop cartoons. Clown grandpa! The og spooky clown. Look up betty boop st James infirmary and you'll understand what I mean. Similarly to that, a lot of koko's animation especially in the earlier days used a lot of rotoscope (tracing over live action footage) and showed the character coming to life and interacting with the real world as a sort of eerie mimicry of real life motion. Also the character koko was based on one of the creators, Dave Fleischer's, clown persona irl

Hunt: Myron van Buren from poptropica. This one has some personal connections to it because this guy canonically hunts you for sport. Yes, in this browser game aimed at elementary school children, this man specifically states that he wants to shoot and display you in his trophy room. That fucked me up a bit as a kid. Also, the character is based on the short story "The Most Dangerous Game," which I'm pretty sure was actually featured in the tournament

End: Fran Bow Dagenhart from Fran Bow. Well, for starters, she watched her parents die in front of her. And second, after she gets her pills in the first chapter of the game she gains abilities very similar to Oliver Banks, except instead of black tendrils showing how someone will die very soon its black shadowy creatures telling the person they're following why they should off themselves

Desolation: Lilith the siren from borderlands. In the second game she gains the alias of firehawk and has powers that include wings made of fire and burning people alive. She also accidentally formed a cult of people who enthusiastically burn each other alive for her favor. Also also she watched her love interest die in front of her and directly after was used to almost destroy the planet of pandora

Corruption: phone/typegingi from dialtown. This one is probably my favorite of these. My cryptid gingi they have every disease <3, but also they embody the concept of toxic or parasitic love shown in the corruption because in the beginning of the game, they form a parasitic transactional relationship with one of the datable characters under the false pretense of love (getting a date on valentines day to pay them into the funfair so they can lay their eggs. Long story don't ask) and in a few of the endings, use the characters for their own gain while making the other's lives exponentially worse like getting Randy a job at the funfair and lifting him up only to shatter his heart and livelihood because he's complacent enough to let gingi in the funfair whenever they want, or gaining Bigfoot's trust only to sell him to the zoo for $2, or having Karen quit her job and taking her on a date to the zoo and then leaving her for a giraffe, and well Oliver, he knew what he was signing up for. My point still stands

Hhhhhhh thinking about dialtown too long causes me to start bouncing off the walls-

It's about the self-actualization and the player's purpose in the story being to nudge every character along the path to personal fulfillment, from the dateables to Ticket Jerry to Gingi themselves. There is only one universe with Gingi in it, and it's the one where everyone becomes their best selves. It's about the fact that the canon timeline, where Norm takes center stage, purposefully includes the happy endings from each dateable in the same timeline, which doesn't make chronological sense but satisfies the need for each person living in this up and down world to find their joy and keep it.

It's about the fact that, despite Dialtown ostensibly being a dating simulator, Gingi's relationships with each character aren't shoehorned into the simplified box of romance, but occupy the messy and complex and REAL space between where their lives intersect. The character dynamics have CHARACTER, and the overarching purpose of each route isn't to date them, but to make them happy. Your stories don't end with true love's kiss. It ends when Karen says she has to leave to pursue her dream, but you're one thing in this town that she'll miss. It ends when Oliver is able to have a heart to heart with Mr. Dickens, understanding that all the sacrifices he made were so Oliver could fulfill his potential as a person and as a creator, and taking that knowledge to build something new. It ends when Norm lowers his gun and stops chasing revenge, choosing to instead find the kindness which exists in this world and make his own joy, in spite of all the pain it's put him through. It ends, and then it begins again.

It's about the burning dumpster fire of humanity that every person is a part of, and how they each are valued as people in their own right. They all have their own personal histories and stories outside of Gingi; Oliver values Mr. Dickens above everyone else in his life, Jerry has a herd of sick dogs to tend to, Karen knows Bigfoot and has a vault full of his bananas she delivers to him every Sunday, I could go on! I have never played a dating sim where every character is so full of life and interest and value, to the point where the player character themselves, Gingi, has their own distinct personality which could not be substituted with any other person without having the entire story collapse.

It's about the flawed but beautiful nature of their existences, filled with struggle and division but throughout it all they reach out to each other. Gingi helps Karen quit her job and profit as an artist. Oliver doesn't hesitate to shelter Gingi and Norm when they return from exile. Gabby indulges the kids who come into her shop and encourages them to experiment and find themselves. Dialtown itself might be shit, run by a corrupt system that leeches the soul out of its inhabitants, but the people care. The people matter, and they always have.

It's about the inherent queerness which runs through the very fabric of the game, inextricably shaping the story and the world it takes place in. It's about ostracization from a world which cannot understand and thus fears you. It's about finding family in the downtrodden and unwanted, building something pure and good in the midst of all this chaos. It's about not fitting in a box and fighting against the forces which try to force you to.

It's about how this story was made and filled to the fucking brim with love, and it's received with a heartfelt, wild kind of joy from the people it's touched. In a world which aims to commodify every morsel of humanity that's left, Dialtown is the farthest thing from that. It's weird, creepy, absurd and incredibly cursed, but there's something to connect to. And that's all that matters.

It's about Joy. It's about Kindness. It's about Living. And that makes me go fucking wild.
