i thought this quote fit Lucas, mostly post timeskip Lucas because of everything that happened.
For Lucas's timeskip design I decided to desaturate his colours and darken his hair, mostly for the headcanon that he doesn't leave his house often so his hair darkens. He has bags under his eyes because he doesn't sleep often, and his black sweater underneath is supposed to represent all of the bottled up feelings he has.
sorry for rambling! i just love Lucas a lot!!
[Start ID: A drawing of a young Lucas looking into the mirror with a smile on his face and Hinawa behind him with her hands on his shoulders. Sunlight is filtering through the left of Lucas and Hinawa indicating it's early morning. They're in saturated colours that pop. At the bottom is red cursive text that reads: It's you! End ID.]
[Start ID: An older and more dishevelled Lucas is looking in mirror, his hair is longer and less maintained and has darkened in colour. Everything is desaturted and doesn't have much life to it. Pale blue light is filtering in on the left, appearing to be night. At the bottom pink text reads: Despite everything, it's still you. End ID.]

[Start ID: A screenshot from twitter of user ThatRabidDog saying: Wait guys new oc trend idea Draw your oc looking in the mirror before and after the trauma. Below they provided two screenshots from Undertale of Frisk looking in the mirror at Toriel's house. The first image is of the pacifist route with the text box: It's you! The next image has if of the genocide route with the house grey and the text box reading: Despite everything, it's still you. End ID.]

Hello! May I request general relationship headcanons for the brothers from Horrortale and Dustfell, as well as Nightmare and Error? Thank you!!
Gladly! Sorry its been a year since this ask was sent, i forgot i made this blog. anyway, three relationship headcanons coming up! i went slightly overboard, sorry
Horrortale
the Horrortale brothers don't live together anymore. Crooks lives in a surface timeline that Ink put him in, and Horror lives with the Bad Sanses. Despite this, their as close as ever. Horror visits Crooks more than the other way around, as Crooks can't travel far due to his injuries. However, he makes the effort for holidays, since Horror likes to celebrate them with his friends as well.
Their prone to worrying about eachother, though, particularly about food intake. Crooks feeds his brother constantly when he visits, and Horror usually brings a homemade dish as well. Their language is definitely one of food, though usually vegetarian for Crooks' sake.
Nightmare actually has Crooks' number on speed dial in case Horror ever has a spiral. He's professional about it, but Crooks really appreciates him looking out for his older brother.
The horror brothers don't always agree on everything, Horror still eats meat despite what they've gone through and of course still attacks universes under Nightmare's orders, so it's certainly caused arguments, but mostly because Crooks is afraid of losing him again. They survived Horrortale by the skin of their teeth, and he doesn't want to see his brother get a second hole in his skull, yknow? Horror knows his brother is concerned, but he likes working for Nightmare, and Crooks ultimately wants his brother to be happy. Regardless of any and all arguments they have, their still brothers and they'll always look out for eachother. Even if Horror's job involves breaking the law, Crooks is willing to turn a blind eye.
Dustfell
With these two, however, there isn't much of a relationship anymore. Noteably because Thorn was, yknow, murdered by him and all. Though make no mistake, Thorn is not a result of any mental issue. he's essentially a ghost, caused by an excess of LV. a haunted memory, of sorts.
But he still behaves like he did when he was alive, if crueller now. He spends most of his ghostly time berating Bramble for nearly anything he does, and purposefully getting him mad so he'll lash out at living people. Oh, and complaining about his brother's uncleanliness, that hasn't changed.
Bramble ignores him, for the most part, but on Thorn's less insulting days, he can still hold a conversation with his brother. He knows full well that he's stuck with Thorn permenantly, no way to remove a ghost when its tied to your LV. And its hardly like theres anyone else to talk to in the dusty underground, at least until Nightmare drops by to check he's still alive, and offer him a place in the Bad sanses for the fifth time. He always says no, partially because he doesn't like his other selves, but partially as a self-punishment. He's still crazed by LV, but he's distantly aware he deserves to burn, like Frisk. Nightmare still keeps an eye on him, though. Just in case he changes his mind.
Thorn, of course, mocks him for his weakness, preys on his mindset of self-punishment. Never far enough to hurt him, 20 LV may be a lot but it doesn't give a lot of HP for a monster like him. But he pushes him just far enough to keep isolating from the other universes. To say their relationship is unhealthy is an understatement.
Maybe Bramble could get a happy ending someday, but it's not anytime soon.
Nightmare and Error
Well, personally, i ship them, but i'll do a non-romantic overview.
Their...co partners of the Bad Sanses, in a way. Nightmare is, officially, the boss, but Error came up with it. So, they share responsibility over their sons their lackies.
Together, their actually sort of similar, when Error isnt throwing a fit over Ink's existence. Neither like being touched, though Nightmare will tolerate it when its his lackies, and both enjoy a good book or show, they bond over soap operas.
Nightmare is, so far, the only bad sans who Error will willingly touch. and by that i mean he leans on his shoulder and sometimes falls asleep during said show watching. It's a start.
They've both been in the Multiverse for a very long time, and are both horribly out of date when it comes to basically anything modern. Error may literally be a piece of broken code, but that doesn't mean he knows how to install a TV. Nightmare did not know what a flatscreen was until Dust and Killer begged him to buy one. On that day, he dragged Error with him to pick one from Crooks' world. They ended up bickering, but Killer called it a bonding activity later on.
They bicker most days, an old married couple as Dust calls them, but some days, they really do get along.
Error taught Nightmare how to knit, Nightmare's been desensitzing him to touch with tentacle pats, and lets him infodump about whatever he's into that day. Error lets Nightmare rant when Dream gets on his nerves too much, and Nightmare taught the others how to help Error when he has a glitchout or a bluescreen.
Their relationship is certainly an action-based one more-so than word-based, but they get along as well as either of them are capable of getting along with anyone. They certainly argue, and sometimes fight, but their energies almost cancel eachother out when their alone.
Almost.

Some Underfell headcanons
General trigger warnings for death, implied suicide, etc.
-Asriel was the one who came up with the plan for Chara to poison themselves, so Asriel could have their SOUL to cross the barrier. Chara was willing to do it, but backed out after they went to the village, despite Asriel begging them to let him kill the humans, leading to both of their deaths.
-After Asgore implemented the “kill or be killed” law, Toriel immediately tried to stop him. He ended up casting her out, and she went to the Ruins.
-Flowey is Frisk’s companion. He takes up one inventory space. He can be used once per fight as a healing item, where he gives Frisk friendliness pellets to heal them.
-Toriel keeps trying to kill the humans that fall. She wants to take their SOULs and get revenge against Asgore. But, at the last moment, she can’t bring herself to do it. She heals the humans and kicks them out of the Ruins.
-UF!Sans is MUCH more aggressive than UT!Sans. He does fight Frisk in the pacifist route, twice. First one is after Frisk gets past Papyrus, the second in the Hall of Judgement. Both fights are incredibly easy, because he fights Frisk out of obligation rather than like the genocide route, where he puts his effort in. In the genocide route, he only fights Frisk in the Hall of Judgement.
-Papyrus is also much more aggressive. He does unleash the Gauntlet of Deadly terror, but only the Annoying Dog actually works. You get a special fight if the Annoying Dog hits you- all you have to do is pet it to get it to SPARE you.
-If Frisk sleeps at the Snowdin Town Inn, their HP goes up to 40 rather than 30. That’s because Papyrus’ attacks do a bit more damage than the UT version.
-Papyrus gets to use his Special Attack! It’s just one Gaster Blaster, easily dodged. Then he uses his really cool regular attack.
-Undyne used to be the captain of the Royal Guard, but she got greedy. She came up with a plan to get a human SOUL and overthrow Asgore. Asgore found out, tore out her eye, and kicked her out. She now hunts in Waterfall, killing whatever unfortunate soul comes across her path. She’s still ‘friends’ with Alphys, but Alphys is nervous about communicating with her.
-Alphys is more malicious than her UT version. There are a few more traps and puzzles to complete, including one in her lab. She does it for entertainment, rather than to be a hero, like UT Alphys.
-Unlike UT!Mettaton, UF!Mettaton actually WAS built to be a human eradication device. His SOUL was only added later, the original robot body was meant to be mindless.
-At the end of his fight, Napstablook calls and says they hate Mettaton. Mettaton contemplates self destruction, but Frisk talks him out of it (pacifist route). In the genocide route, Mettaton is the same as UT!Mettaton- no actual fight.
-The Asgore fight is just about the same. Flowey doesn’t go with Frisk- he stays in the throne room. Use your Dimensional Boxes to have a full inventory of healing items.
-Neutral ending: the SOULs take over Flowey and force him to fight Frisk. It’s the same fight, except the SOULs attack and Flowey provides the healing items.
-During the Neutral Route phone call, Mettaton comes on the phone momentarily. He thanks Frisk for helping him. Everything else is basically the same at UT.
-True Ending: It’s basically the same, except Undyne stays at her (burning) house instead of going to Sans’ and Papyrus’ house. She implies that she’s afraid to leave Waterfall. Papyrus comes to her instead. She writes a letter to Alphys for you to deliver, Alphys takes you to the dump, etc. Alphys apologizes for being mean to Frisk when they came through.
-Flowey is, again, possessed by the SOULs. The SOULs make him take the monster’s SOULs, and he turns back into Asriel. The fight is the same.
-Flowey comes with Frisk and the monsters to the Surface. Asgore takes away the Kill or Be Killed law, and promises to make peace with the humans.
-Mettaton goes back and makes peace with Napstablook. Napstablook apologizes for what he says on the phone.
-Genocide ending: Flowey leaves Frisk after they kill Toriel. He tries to warn Asgore, and begs Frisk not to kill him. Chara greets Frisk, but they have a tad bit different dialogue, saying they regret not killing the humans long ago, and thank you for giving them a chance again, even if it came at such a great cost.
(Why Chara Isn’t Evil will be a different post, haha)

frisk and chara
How much of a DORK they are (both)
Bright yellow sprite. Dead :(
YOur cute + Despite everything, it's still you.
Frisk and Chara!! They're besties :]
Probably charisk? (When they're not like... siblings.) Also... yknow. Biased towards frellie :p
Literally any ship involving Frisk and an adult. Chara it'd probably be people who ship them with Azzy :/
Okay this one's hard because I've made almost all of my random headcanons. Canon. Frisk purposely mismatches socks. They also collect sweaters. Also Chara echolalia.
Not unpopular..? But like I said there should be more Frisk content where they're not a perfect happy goofball the entire time let them be traumatised!! I'm also a fan of Frisk going to live with, like... Asgore or something after the Underground. Again, not really unpopular but. Eh
Okay okay I have so many songs for both of them but this one is SUCH a Frisk song and this one is such a Chara song (thank you to my friend who shared it with me!!!)
Uhh. Not sure how to answer this, considering there's. So much fanart like what-

A bunch of questions that weren't big enough to be their own (so I'm putting them together)
Tumblr media
3. I realize you said HAS a bad haircut, but I came up with two scenarios that are tertiary canon (I came up with definition of the term so I am sure I'm using it wrong. What I'm saying is it has no effect on the canon so you can take it or leave it.)
The first is Asriel and Chara as kids, where they cut each other's hair for fun without their parents permission. Just being silly. The next is Temmie (without permission but does she ever get permission for anything she does) deciding she's bored and actually a salonist. No one except for other tems actually got their hair cut there while it was open. It got shut down real quick-- because surprisingly, hair everywhere isn't very sanitary for restaurants-- but the customers enjoyed their awful cuts so who's to judge?
4. They would grow up and take their place as the rulers, although Papyrus would be the only one really doing anything. Papyrus would try to overwork him like his dad did, but Sans wouldn't let him take too much on. The reason why the King Papyrus ending was so bad was because the brothers were forced to rule over a broken and hopeless kingdom without warning, but since Papyrus always was meant to be king and the underground is fine.
They're not as respectable as Gaster was, but they're still good, despite Papyrus being very, very eccentric. I think by the time they're adults in this timeline, Sans and Papyrus would be virtually indistinguishable personality wise from the original. Sans would be happier and not worried about the timelines because that hasn't happened unlike the original, but really the reason underjumble has them different is due to the fact they never got to grow up and let go of anything.
Unless Papyrus perfectly times when he has a kid, Papyrus would eventually outlive his brother. He'd be distraught at first, but as time goes by, he'll look back to Sans and smile fondly. He still misses him, but it wouldn't be a stab in the heart to remember him, it would be bittersweet. He came in Papyrus' life and left, but he still brought so much joy. This is assuming Sans' life isn't cut short for whatever reason.
They would probably collect human souls, but only after the human dies of natural causes, because the soul is just there, why not use it? Or you could take the route that humans with the souls together can break the barrier, since the magicians didn't die due to the barrier. Whichever you think of, the point is the underground would be happier.
5. Frisk wears a hoodie!! They're more reclusive and shy, hunching over and wearing the hoodie more. Other than that the outfit is basically the same.
6. Assuming you mean in game, Doggo doesn't really have hopes or dreams. He wants to feel and to have Sans back, but he's given up on the possibility for the most part. Sans just wants to take everything back, but knows it's impossible. Post game he just wants his brother to be able to be at peace.
Asriel's hope is that Gaster's plan won't work, that one day monsters will make peace with humans, and to see his family again. Chara's hopes are to make up with their family and free monsters. Napstablook doesn't really have a dream, and Mettaton wants to be famous. Toriel wants there to be a peaceful solution, the gays want to see each other and date and Gaster wants to take back what he believes is rightfully his.
Tumblr media
Okay so headcanon. A lot of people take all the amalgamates at face value, the only ones. I don't think that's true. Alphys asked for all monsters that have fallen down. Of course not everyone would hand them over but I think it's quite possibly like. 15-30 fallen down monsters she got? My point is I don't think there's just five. Here are the canon five (but not all) amalgamates that you fight. I was going to draw them but I'm bad at drawing so I'll try to describe it. They don't have names yet so I'll just put a line of dialogue
smells like slush - Dess, Pyrope, and Madjick. Has melty ropes binding them and Dess' head and Madjick's melted orbs.
what a catastrophe! - probably not really using that line. Sans doesn't make puns in really serious situations. A handful of temmies and a final froggit. This one looks less like one whole and more like almost a pile. Not completely ofc but since most amalgamates have melted to the point it just looks like one creature.
I don't have any actual quotes I just wanted to show off the slush one and trapped myself - One from the jerry species, an ice cap and a chilldrake
- Gyfttrot, Knight Knight, Monster Kid's father
- Memory head with misgospel movements of eyes.
Tumblr media
Underjumble Blooky canonically wears headphones the entire game so yeah! They just like me fr
Tumblr media
13. Assuming we're not talking about with any souls or LOVE, Sans and Doggo is, I'm just gonna say it, they're like the weakest ones. Sans can't even interact with the physical world, or if he can it's very limited, and Doggo is a plush. There's a reason why he watches from afar and doesn't let himself get in stabbing distance until he feels like you can't hurt him. Just putting this out there so it's known I'm not including them. I would say Gaster. Undyne is strong as hell but she's not a boss monster, and none of the monster Dreemurrs really have a reason to have practiced and been skilled much.
14. I think he would be awful at names but not in the sense Asgore is. Bro would look at a place and name it a long scientific term. I've never actually thought about that idea though :0 I have thought about it a bit and I think Asgore still named the areas, since Gaster wasn't focused on that and he was close with Asgore, he got the privileges to.
15. It was from unnatural ways, I can tell you that. I haven't decided on how exactly, but basically yeah he did make Paps. Although I love that headcanon. "here's that tiny guy you ordered. hope it's okay if i fucked around with his genetic code a bit." Maybe that's why he can just float
16. Before she fell I assume you mean. Basically!!! She's a little silly hehehe. They'd interact like how the ogs would interact. They're still close, even though Maddie doesn't-- I guess i should say didn't-- live in the same house.
17. That's cool!!!!!
Tumblr media
19. He uses long words and uncommon(?) terms that most people don't use in every day speech, and doesn't use contractions very often. I like to think he just uses some words wrong but he's been through countless timelines so that's not likely

Determination is not a soul trait, more so an essence found in all human souls, just some have more than others. The essence can be found in any soul but mainly human souls as they are strong enough to withstand it, as it is a very powerful source that could overtake and consume a monsters soul.
The first fallen human, Chara, they had a lot of determination in their essence but their main attribute was Patience. They could wait for as long as they had to, to initiate a plan or for an opportunity.
Frisk’s soul is Kindness. They give all they have to someone in order for them to be happy and value the lives of others above all else. They would never intentionally strike someone down, preferring to take the hit themselves, talk their way around it or run.
The two humans share one thing in common, their level of determination. The essence is dominate in their souls. The determination covers the soul red due to the amount held in order to achieve what they are set out to do. In Frisk’s case, they share the determination with Chara. Their souls bonding to one to create more determination than before, enough to make up an entire soul.
However, one thing that can change the main attribute that the person holds dear is LOVE.
LOVE spreads HATE into the soul, changing how they feel and think. It mainly changes the perspective and goals of a person but not their will in order to achieve it, if anything it heightens it slightly to raise the LV.
The LOVE turns Patience to Agitation and Kindness to Cruelty.
The thoughts and attributes change within the person but the main goal is there, if not warped by the HATE in the soul.
In short:
Frisk’s soul:
Pacifist - Kindness
Genocide - Cruelty
Chara’s soul:
Pacifist - Patience
Genocide - Agitation

[Image Description: an Undertale chat box with the name "Frisk" in its center, between a talksprite of Frisk's monotone face on the left and the EGG, a sun, and "WED", taken from the Dating Hub, on the right. End I.D.]
Frisk received a total of 59 votes, meaning that 2.2% of responders picked them as a favorite. However, these numbers only tell part of the story. In our analysis of which characters people create content of, Frisk was the third most popular, beaten only by Papyrus and Sans. This implies that a lot of fans care deeply about Frisk, but for whatever reason, they are not usually fans’ number one choice. This makes our data on them somewhat limited, but there are still some interesting repeated sentiments. They were also often brought up by people who claimed they liked too many characters to choose, so we analyzed those responses as well.
Many loved the ambiguous nature of Frisk’s character. The empty spaces in their characterization allow some fans to project onto them easily.
Some go as far as calling Frisk “a blank slate for the player,” although this is not technically true, as they are revealed to be their own person at the end of the True Pacifist route. This reveal was pointed out by a few responders, and many more love that their character raises interesting questions about how much of the game is based on Frisk’s choices, and how much is the player’s.
Frisk is also canonically nonbinary, which is very important to many responders. Our demographics analysis revealed that a very large portion of the Undertale fandom is nonbinary or questioning their gender, and it may be representation like Frisk that drew them into the game. Others noted being surprised by a nonbinary main character, and only realizing that being nonbinary was an option at all because of them.
There are also many fans who love to see the variety of fanon interpretations for them. Most commonly, fans pointed out the common headcanons that Frisk is nonverbal and/or autistic.
They tend to be demonized less than Chara, but many fans do find it interesting to explore their role as the catalyst for both the best and worst endings in the game. Many enjoy exploring the moral questions this brings up,
Many love that the few things that the game does reveal about Frisk show that they are a complex character with a distinct personality, although their backstory and motivations are never revealed. They are often seen as a cute little kid with an unhappy past, who makes mistakes even when doing their best, but, despite everything, continues moving forward.
Highlights: (under the cut)
I love how their personality is often portrayed in the fandom : very stone faced and ‘dry’ but silly, confident, and clever.
amazing child filled with compassion and determination
The interface between the player and Frisk makes for a fascinating moral question, about free will, and how much you can expect a child to do
Frisk was also my first real introduction to trans/nonbinary people, and some fanart/writing of them introduced me to what autism could look like outside of mainstream media. (I'm a trans and autistic teen, for reference.)
We went through what Frisk went through and felt at times determined and hopeless as them. They held us and we held them and after everything we’re still us.
i like the variability of interpretations for both them and chara. they can be sweet or an asshole (plus many many more traits) and it can all fit into canon!
Frisk may be more open to fandom interpretation, but honestly, that's probably why I like them the most. I like imagining a scrappy young kid doing their best, committing mistakes, living and laughing... I like the fanon character traits that have established themselves independent from what few canon facts we know. I like the few sprinkled-in tidbits we DO get. A character so malleable and yet with defining borders.
Because of the choices, everything Frisk does, can change the route of that world, and the little details that happen with their choices, I love that because, let everything open to happen, do you want to make friends with Toriel? you can, do you want to put hot cats on your head, well Sans do that for you, do you want to have a bad time? You can.

When The Dust Settles
This version of DustTale is based more on the Dusttale fangame by Evan Streblow, than anything else (even if it does differ from the game in several ways), and is, in fact, set right after the game's Rebellious Pacifist ending. Therefore, I'd strongly advise you to play the game (it's free on Game Jolt) or watch a playthrough of this ending. But, long story short, after trying to defy Chara as often as possible, and show as much mercy as they could, Frisk eventually manages to spare Sans in the final fight and the two of them work together to permanently delete Chara's file. Frisk then Resets one final time and completes one last Pacifist run to free everyone and give them all their Happy Ending.
This also contains some of my own personal headcanons for Chara and the Genocide run.
Warning: as this is set in a post-DustTale world, there will be angst, themes of trauma recovery, PTSD and panic attacks. Sans and Frisk went through hell and it shows, so please be aware of this if the subject makes you uncomfortable.
________________________________________________
Sitting side by side, Sans’s arm draped around Frisk’s shoulders, the two of them gazed upon the rising sun, feeling hope for the first time in so, so long. Now that the dust had settled, Chara had been permanently deleted, and their terrible ordeal was over, both were confident that things were finally going to be okay. And, in a way, they were. The monsters had been freed, for good this time, and were enjoying life on the Surface, none the wiser to the horrors that had befallen them in previous timelines. Frisk, still only physically sixteen years old, despite the many, many resets having aged her soul far beyond what any human should endure, had been taken in and formally adopted by Toriel. She’d once again accepted the position of Monster Ambassador to the humans, and was fighting for monsters’ rights and freedom harder and with more determination than ever before, working tirelessly and unflinchingly towards a better future for the people she’d wronged so badly in the overwritten past. And Sans? Well, he was mostly the same as he’d always been, at least on the outside. He still lived with his younger brother, Papyrus, still slacked off frequently, and still told jokes to anyone who’d listen. Deep down however, unseen by anyone else, things were far from okay for the pair.
Their sins still crawled down their backs and their crimes still weighed heavily on their necks. They couldn’t help being reminded of the murders the both of them had committed, each time they looked at their friends and family. Their nights were plagued by horrible nightmares of death, dust and madness. Even though the past had been erased and their fates rewritten, their guilt still remained, and they could not escape from it, no matter how hard they tried. Their friends had noticed their odd behaviour, of course they had, but no matter how much they tried to help, Sans and Frisk refused to tell anyone what they were going through, nor why. And how could they? How could they ever explain the resets, the genocide, Chara? So, the two of them only smiled and offered empty reassurances of everything being fine, while continuing to push away those they loved most. All except each other.
“paps has finally stopped asking me what’s bothering me. i'm guessing he’s realised i ain’t ever gonna tell him the truth, so he’s trying to think of a different approach. i know he hasn’t given up, it’s just not who he is, and i love him for it, i really do, but i just wish he’d stop. i’m tired of always having to hide important stuff from him, and i hate lying to him all the time. i’m the worst big brother ever.”
Sans and Frisk were sat, side by side, on the floor of Sans’s bedroom, leaning against the wall, with Sans holding his skull in his hands as he vented his inner thoughts to his best friend. Frisk leaned her shoulder against his in sympathy.
“My mum’s the same. She keeps hovering over me, with that worried look on her face, trying to get me to talk and open up to her. I know she means well, she always has, but I don’t know how much more of her fussing I can take. I’m not some little kid she can coddle and protect all the time.”
The two friends had made a habit of seeking each other out when their problems became too much for either to handle on their own. They’d often retreat to the privacy of Sans’s bedroom to discuss what they couldn't talk about with anyone else, and share the worries and trauma that no other soul would be able to understand. Within months, Frisk had started spending more time at the skeleton brothers’ residence than at her own house, and would have sleepovers with them most nights.
“The nightmares haven’t gotten any better,” Frisk confided in Sans one such night, as they both lay awake on the floor of Sans’s bedroom. Frisk had been woken up by yet another night terror, and had dragged her blanket up to her skeletal friend’s room to chat with him, and he, in turn, had joined her on his floor, taking his own blanket to lie beside her, so that they could talk quietly together without disturbing Papyrus.
“I keep dreaming about everyone dying, sometimes by my hand, others by Chara, but it’s always my fault. There’s so much dust, it’s everywhere. It covers my hands and my clothes and it won’t come off, no matter what I do,” Frisk tearfully whispered to Sans, barely holding back her sobs.
“i know the feeling, bud. i can’t stop seeing the dust, either. especially on my clothes. every time i look down, i keep expecting my slippers to be grey, and my shorts and hoodie to be covered in dust. makes me want to change my outfit completely, but i’d never hear the end of it from everyone, ‘specially pap.”
Sans had taken Frisk’s soft, trembling hand in his own hard, skeletal one, rubbing soothing circles over the back of it. She squeezed his hand in return, both staring up at the ceiling without truly seeing it. Eventually, the two of them drifted off into a surprisingly peaceful sleep, mercifully free from nightmares and visions of the dust-coated path they both took.
The pair also tried their best to remain in mostly the same, easy to access locations, in case one of them ever desperately needed to find the other, to seek out the comfort and understanding that only they could provide each other.
“paps heard me talking to myself again and kept asking me what’s wrong. i just shrugged it off as usual and said i was going to grillby’s, then i came straight here. i can’t take it, frisk. i just can’t,” Sans was sitting hunched over on the floor of Frisk’s bedroom, cradling his skull in his hands, Frisk behind him, leaning over him to wrap her arms around him in a comforting hug. Sans had suddenly appeared in her room while she’d been busy doing homework, and had dropped to the ground, unable to remain standing. Having long gotten used to his shortcuts, Frisk had instantly abandoned her work to join her distraught best friend.
“i hear his voice all the time, ghost papyrus, telling me to kill everyone, saying i need to get stronger, that i need more EXP, more LOVE,” his voice shook as he spoke, his words becoming increasingly rushed and distressed. “he keeps reminding me that i’ll never escape from my sins, that i’ll never be forgiven for what i did. and i know it’s not really papyrus, i know that my bro would never say that, i know. but that voice won’t shut up!”
Frisk hugged him tighter as he began to hyperventilate, despite having no lungs to breathe with.
“I know, Sans, I understand, I get what you’re going through, I really do,” she cooed gently to him, wanting desperately to soothe his panic and refocus his attention on her grounding presence. “I’m the same. I hear Chara’s voice as well, sometimes. I know it’s just my imagination, that they’re gone, for good, but still... I keep expecting to hear them tell me to stay determined, or give me some sarcastic quip, or... or order me to keep going. To collect all the EXP in the area. But they’re gone, it’s over, we did it, we won. It’s all over, Sans.”
Sans had stopped shaking. He took a deep, shuddering breath, and leaned back into Frisk, pressing himself into the warmth of her embrace.
“you’re right, it is over. so why can’t i move on? why am i still haunted by events that never happened, not anymore. after everything we’ve achieved, all the good we’ve done, why are we both still suffering? it’s... it’s just not fair...”
Frisk could only sigh, and buried her face in the back of his hoodie.
“You’re right. It isn’t fair. I guess life rarely is and this is just something we’ve gotta learn to live with. But hey, at least we’ve got each other, right?”
Sans let out a soft chuckle. He placed his hands over Frisk’s arms, still wrapped around him.
“... yeah. you’re right. we’ve still got each other.”
___________________________
Things were not perfect between the two of them, however, and tensions occasionally arose whenever certain sensitive topics came up.
“i’ve stopped looking in mirrors. i keep expecting to see red and red-blue eyelights staring back at me. i’m terrified one day i will.”
This time, the two of them were sat beside each other on a branch, high up in a tree on a lonely hill, in the largest park in the city. The setting sun cast a red glow over their faces, as they looked down at the people in the distance going about their day, living blissfully ordinary lives.
“I’m the opposite, I look at myself in the mirror quite a lot,” Frisk frowned thoughtfully, her fingers digging into the tree bark beneath her. “I want to make sure that my eyes are still... my eyes. That, despite everything, it’s still me and not... you know, Chara.”
Sans grimaced at the name, glaring hatefully into the distance.
“that genocidal brat. this’s all their fault. i don’t get how anyone could keep murdering innocent people, over and over again, hundreds of times. they must be pure evil.”
Frisk gave him a sad look, before turning away, remembering the first fallen human.
“I know you won’t believe me, but Chara wasn’t always a bad person. They were... well, not exactly kind, but they helped me a lot, especially during my very first run, when I didn’t know what the hell I was doing or what was going on. They talked to me, explained a few things to me, comforted me every time I died, and encouraged me to stay determined... They were my very first friend in the Underground.”
Frisk sighed wistfully into the air. Sans turned to glare at her, gritting his teeth in anger.
“you’re right, i don’t believe you,” he said, his tone bitter, disbelieving, “how can you call that demon a friend?! after everything they did?! all we’ve been through because of them?! this whole shitshow is all their fault!”
“It’s not all their fault!” Frisk protested, reeling back in the face of her friend’s fury. “I share a lot of the blame. I was the one who first started killing monsters for EXP.”
“at their suggestion!” Sans spat out angrily.
“It was still my decision in the end,” Frisk insisted.
“in the beginning, maybe. but you told me that they had mostly taken over control of your body by the time you reached toriel,” then his eyelights went out, his dark, empty sockets sending a shiver of instinctive fear down Frisk’s back. “they’re the one who murdered all of our friends. that demon killed my brother!”
“To avenge me!” Frisk defended, afraid and upset, but unwilling to back down. “And all of the other fallen humans. We were innocent too, but we still died. Many times. Chara couldn’t forgive monsters for such cruelty and selfishness, not after all they’d sacrificed to try to save them. And then all of that LV and all of the monsters’ hatred corrupted their spirit and turned them into a demon. But their intentions weren’t evil, not at first!”
“so you agree with that brat, then?” Sans narrowed his eye sockets at her and she flinched in shock at the accusation.
“No! Never! I never wanted any of this! I swear!” Frisk shook her head desperately, shooting Sans a pleading look. He only sneered back at her in disgust.
“you didn’t want it, but you asked for it,” he pointed out accusingly. “you’re the one who started this whole mess, after all. in the end, you’re no better than that genocidal brat.”
With those hate-filled words, Sans teleported away, vanishing into the night, leaving Frisk to call out futilely to him in the darkness.
Things did not improve between them for a long while. Despite Frisk’s best efforts to make up with him, Sans obstinately kept avoiding her. Disheartened, she turned her focus to her ambassadorial work and devoted all of her spare time and energy to it, spending long hours in her office, pouring over paperwork, and attending meetings with various diplomats and government officials. While she had managed to push through quite a few laws protecting monsters’ rights and had earned the respect of all of her colleagues and much of the public, in spite of her young age, the stress of her duties eventually caught up to her and, one day, she suddenly collapsed from exhaustion. Her friends, extremely worried for her health, forced her to take a break and rest at home, paying her frequent visits to check up on her and keep her company. Sans tried to keep his distance, but Papyrus would not hear of it and, having finally lost his patience with his brother’s reticence, forcefully dragged him to meet their human friend and talk to her again.
While Papyrus and Toriel were downstairs, discussing the merits of spaghetti pie, Sans reluctantly made his way to Frisk’s room, hesitantly knocking on her door and, receiving no answer, he cautiously let himself inside. There, he found Frisk fast asleep in her bed and quietly approached her, making sure not to disturb her much needed rest. She looked exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, and a deep frown marring her face. She was still only seventeen, she shouldn’t have ever been in a position to overwork herself to the point of collapse... And it seemed she was still being tormented by nightmares, as she started restlessly fidgeting in her bed, letting out pained whimpers and despairing moans in her sleep. Sans carefully took one of her shaking hands in his and she instantly settled down, her frown easing, and falling silent once more.
“it’s been over a year and our suffering still ain’t over, is it buddy? you’re hurting just as much as i am, but you never let it stop you from doing the right thing. and here i am, adding to your troubles. i really can’t do anything right, can i? man, i’m so sorry, Frisk. i really am. you deserve so much better than some good-for-nothing numbskull like me.”
“... Sans...?”
His head shot up, to be met with Frisk's blinking, bleary eyes.
“sorry, kid, did i wake ya? just go back to sleep, stars know you need the rest,” Sans let go of her hand and tried to push her back down on her bed, but she resisted him and sat up, yawning sleepily and rubbing at her tired eyes. Sans let out a sigh and looked at her awkwardly.
“sorry. i really didn’t mean to wake you up. i should probably leave...”
“No, wait, don’t go!” Frisk shook her head and nodded towards a nearby chair. “Please take a seat. I’d love to chat with you, if you don’t mind.”
“nah, i’ve been wanting to have this talk for a while,” Sans pulled the chair up next to her bed and sat down, hesitating to meet her gaze. “look, about what happened... i’m sorry. i shouldn't've yelled at you like that. you didn’t deserve it and it was wrong of me to blame you for all that happened. it’s all been really hard on me, but that’s no excuse to take it out on you. and then, instead of apologising, i ran away and hid, like a coward. i just couldn’t face you after what i said, i was too ashamed. you’re the best friend i’ve ever had, the only person i’ve ever been able to be completely honest with, the only one i don’t have to hide anything from. after all the shit we’ve been through, you are the one person who can truly understand me, who really knows me. i... i just can’t stand the thought of losing you, of losing our friendship. you are the only thing keeping me sane in this whole screwed up mess we’re in. i don’t know what i’d do without you.”
By the end, Sans had buried his skull in his skeletal hands, magical tears leaking between his bones to fall to the floor. Frisk reached a hand to place it atop his skull.
“Sans, you and I have been through hell together. All of the resets, all of the dying, all of the killing, we’ve gone through it all together, and were only able to overcome it all together. The kind of bond that creates is unbreakable. Nothing is going to come between us, not now, not ever. You’re stuck with me, Sans, forever. Better get used to it.”
Sans lifted his head, leaning into the warm weight of Frisk’s hand. His eye sockets were still wet, but his smile was gentle and the sincerest it had been in a very long time.
“heh, glad to hear it, pal, i wouldn’t have it any other way,” he gazed at her fondly, as she smiled brightly at him in return. Then, he frowned pensively. “ya know, i really do mean it when i say that you’re the only person who really knows me. but i just realised that i don’t really know you all that well. you know what i’ve been through, but you’ve never really talked about what you’ve been through that i don’t know about. like with your first run, what it was like meeting and fighting everyone, how you broke the barrier, why you’re so attached to that stupid weed and insisted on bringing it with you to the Surface, and what... chara... was like. ya know, before they turned into a murderous demon and all. i just... want to get to know you better.”
He smiled bashfully at her, but looked genuinely interested in her life and her experiences in the Underground, and so, with her own warm smile, she told him her tale. A tale of fallen humans, a lost prince, a mysterious friend, and how mercy had saved the one monster who had gone on to save them all. And throughout it all, Sans listened patiently and without judgment. At the end, though, he did have one thing to say.
“huh... i still don’t like that obnoxious weed, though.”
“Sans!” Frisk giggled helplessly, and flicked his forehead. Sans merely gave her an unrepentant wink, his grin wide and shameless.
___________________________
With their friendship mended and their bond stronger than ever, the two of them continued to support each other through their shared trauma, and helped each other to heal from their emotional and mental wounds. Shortly after Frisk’s eighteenth birthday, she formally moved in with the skeleton brothers. Toriel was sad to see her adoptive daughter go, but Flowey’s continued presence, as well as her renewed relationship with Asgore, helped to ease her loneliness, and with how often the monster king came round to her house for tea and pie, there was speculation that he might soon move in, though Toriel blushingly denied such rumours. As for Papyrus, he was utterly delighted to have his dear human friend live with him, and had improved his cooking enough to make actually edible meals, even though most of them contained some form of spaghetti, convinced as he was that everyone loved it. He was also glad to have Frisk close by for his brother’s sake, as Sans only truly came alive when she was around. For her part, Frisk cherished Papyrus’s loud, confident and energetic personality, and had come to greatly appreciate his surprising thoughtfulness and his kind soul. And it went without saying, but Sans was more than happy to have his closest friend and confidante living as his housemate, while Frisk was eager to keep up her habit of sneaking into Sans’s bedroom, to have late-night heart-to-hearts and meaningless chitchat, whenever her nightmares got the best of her.
Things continued to proceed smoothly until, a year later, on one sunny and otherwise unremarkable day, Toriel and Asgore revealed their plans to open up the Underground for humans to visit, so as to foster greater understanding between the two species. This gave Frisk the idea of her and Sans going through the Underground, as they once did, as a sort of pilgrimage and reminder of what they’d gone through. Sans, understandably, wasn’t too keen on the idea.
“i hate it,” he stated bluntly, his grin flat. “you want us to go back to the place where the both of us suffered unimaginable hardship, to, what, remember the good old days?”
“No, sulky skull,” Frisk huffed, “I want us to go back there so that we can confront the... metaphorical ghosts of our past. You know, face our fears and all that. It might help us to move on from that terrible time in our lives.”
“or,” Sans raised a brow bone, looking unconvinced, “it might just dredge up horrible memories we’d both rather forget, and give us more nightmare fuel.”
“Then we’ll just have to overcome that like we’ve overcome every other crappy consequence of our shared bad times,” Frisk gave him a determined look, and Sans groaned, already knowing that resistance was futile. “Please Sans, I really think this’ll be good for us. Just trust me, okay?”
Sans sighed in defeat.
“always.”
And so, the following day, after informing all of their friends of their plans, the two of them packed some supplies in their inventories and made their way up Mt Ebott, following the path Frisk once took, years ago. Finding the hole where Frisk had first fallen down, they carefully lowered themselves down to the cavern floor, using rope and magic, eventually landing on a familiar patch of golden flowers.
“Wow, this place hasn’t changed a bit,” Frisk looked around wistfully. “I know Mum said that she came down here, from time to time, to water the flowers, but... they really do look exactly the same as when I fell here.”
“that’s quite the drop,” Sans squinted up at the hole in the ceiling. “i’m glad these flowers were here to cushion your fall. i don’t wanna think what would’ve happened if they weren’t here.”
“These flowers only grew after Chara was buried here,” Frisk crouched down to run her fingers over the petals of one golden flower. “Maybe it was their way of protecting those who fell down here, just as they did. Golden flowers were Chara’s favourite, after all.”
Unsure what to say to that, Sans gave her a complicated look and nodded to the large door further away.
“we should move on. time’s a-wastin’ and we have a lot of Underground to trek through.”
“Right,” Frisk nodded in agreement and, together, the pair made their way through the Ruins, occasionally stopping to point out notable places from their memories. They lingered in Home for a while, before coming to a stop in front of the large doors leading to the exit to the Ruins. They both stood in silence for some time, heads bowed low, images of a motherly face twisted in betrayal, before turning to dust, flashing through their minds. Eventually, the two of them clasped hands and continued on sombrely. Exiting the Ruins, they were greeted by the constant snowfall and artificial light of Snowdin Forest.
“Looks like Alphys’s cameras are still here,” Frisk noted, peering into a nearby bush.
“yeah, she had those cameras set up all throughout the entire underground. even behind my sentry station.”
“I know, she used them to spy on me,” Frisk grimaced at the thought. “Really creeped me out when I first find out about them. Later on, Chara and I made a game of how many we could find. We searched everywhere!”
Frisk giggled and Sans gave her a fond smile, his soul warming at her momentary joy. Their levity continued as they travelled further on, Frisk jokingly scolding Sans for trying to scare her upon their first meeting.
“You are such a troll!” Frisk bumped his shoulder with hers. “After Toriel went on about how monsters outside of the Ruins were much more dangerous than those inside, I was genuinely terrified you were some violent, bloodthirsty fiend coming to steal my soul. But all that time, you were just messing with me!”
“yep. you sure were fun to tease,” Sans grinned unabashedly at her and, in retaliation, Frisk stuck her tongue out at him.
The pair steadily made their way through the forest, nostalgically reminiscing about certain memorable places and people, lapsing into remorseful and respectful silence about others. Upon arriving at Snowdin Town, they found the place deserted, all the monsters having made the journey to the Surface years ago. The sight of the empty town reminded them painfully of when the monsters had abandoned it, fleeing in terror from both of their murderous rampages. Not wishing to linger, they quickly moved onto the skeleton brothers’ house, still decked in festive decorations. With some trepidation, they both decided to enter Sans’s former home.
“huh, the place is a lot cleaner than i expected,” Sans remarked, looking around the surprisingly spotless house.
“Hmm. Maybe Paps decided to come tidy up the place from time to time, just like Mum did,” Frisk went into the kitchen, opening up all of the cupboards to find them bare.
“sounds like pap, all right,” Sans sat on the sofa, testing the plushness of the cushions. “it would be just like him to clean our old home, even though no one lives here any longer. heh, my bro’s a bit of a neat freak. isn’t he the coolest?”
“He sure is,” Frisk agreed as, together, they both climbed up the stairs to the second floor. Papyrus’s room hadn’t changed much since he’d moved out, save for the posters and action figures having been taken with him when he’d departed. After fondly reminiscing on Papyrus and Frisk’s “date”, her and Sans cautiously entered his former bedroom.
“wow. he even went to the trouble of keeping my old room clean,” Sans looked around in wonder.
“It’s certainly a lot cleaner than when you actually lived here,” Frisk walked around the place she’d only visited a handful of times. “Even your trash tornado is gone! Papy sure is a miracle worker.”
“told ya. the. coolest,” Sans winked at her.
Their pleasant mood came to end, however, when they left the town. They had arrived at the place where Papyrus had died, hundreds of times in past timelines.
Sans stared mutely at one particular spot, his eye sockets dark and empty, and his mouth flat.
Frisk also stared grimly at the location where both she and Sans had murdered Papyrus.
“... Even after Chara struck Papyrus, he still believed in us. He never gave up on us... on me. He kept believing that we could do the right thing, be better, be good, right until the very end,” Frisk whispered her words solemnly, finally breaking the heavy silence.
“he was the same with me,” Sans’s voice hitched as he struggled to contain his emotions. “if... if it’d make me happy, then he... he...” his voice broke off into a sob, as magical tears started pouring from his sockets. “but how could his death ever make me happy? how could he think, even for a moment, that i’d ever want a world without him in it?”
Sans collapsed to his knees, his body shaking with the force of his sobbing. Frisk immediately fell down beside him, gathering his trembling form into her arms, hugging him tightly to her, her own tears streaming down her face as she pressed it to his.
“... i blamed you for his death... tried to convince myself that it was all the human’s fault... but it wasn’t. it was my fault. my choice. my actions. my brother was dead and it was all my fault!” Sans broke off into another round of anguished crying.
“how could i do that? how could i ever think that killing my bro was the right thing to do? that killing everyone and doing the exact same thing as that demon was a good idea?” he whispered brokenly, as Frisk gently rocked the two of them on the ground, offering her silent support with the fierceness of her hug.
“in the end, i was no better than them. just an insane, hateful murderer,” and with those final, self-reproaching words, Sans dissolved once more into agonised sobbing, Frisk crying miserably with him the whole time.
It took a while, but once all of their tears had finally dried up, the two repentant friends sat huddled together in silence, hugging each other tightly. No words were spoken between them, for no words existed that could soothe their pain or ease their guilt. But the catharsis of finally expressing themselves and fully coming to terms with their past actions, had lifted a weight off of their shoulders. They knew that they would never be able to forgive themselves for their sins, but at least they had finally accepted what they’d done and were ready to truly move on from this moment.
They remained sombre throughout their journey through Waterfall, though their spirits had lifted considerably. They continued to point out memorable places and reminisce on the past, and at one point, Frisk had even fallen into the water after having tripped on the roots of the overgrown Echo flowers, as she dashed from one to another to listen to their recorded conversations. Sans had laughed at her, even as he helped her back onto dry land. She pouted at him and he only smiled cheekily back, though he did remove his jacket, draping it over her shoulders.
“careful there, pal, waterfall’s not had anyone to maintain the plants since everyone left,” Sans pointed out, keeping a hand on Frisk’s back, while attentively scanning her for any signs of injury. “so watch your step, ‘kay? you need to take care of yourself, buddy. ‘cause i really care about you.”
Frisk smiled happily, leaning into him.
“Right back at you, Sansy.”
When they arrived at the bridge where Frisk and Chara had fought and killed Undyne, they stopped for a while.
“If there’s one good thing that came from our merciless murder run, it was finding out just how much of a badass Undyne truly is,” Frisk recalled the fight and the form her friend took to protect everyone. “She really is a true heroine. Even Chara was impressed. Undyne was so determined, she actually started melting, just like what happened with the Amalgamates. I never thought that could happen naturally to a monster.”
“yeah, undyne sure is something, ain’t she?” Sans agreed, as they both bowed their heads in respect to the world’s most determined monster.
As they made their way into Hotland, Frisk gave Sans his jacket back (“Thanks again, Sans.” “no worries, it was no skin off my nose,” shrugged the noseless skeleton). They soon arrived at the Laboratory and, after some hesitation, decided against entering the True Lab.
“I know the place is empty, but it’s still way too creepy!” Frisk shuddered, remembering her encounter with the horrors below.
“what, are you, the big bad human, actually afraid of something?” Sans teased, nudging her playfully with his elbow.
“Of course I have things I’m frightened of, same as everyone else,” Frisk pouted, offended. “And are you telling me that you wouldn’t be scared, if an amalgam of several different monsters all melted into a huge, goopy mess, suddenly jumped out at you?”
“well, i gotta admit, they are a bit... unsettling,” Sans conceded.
Their trek through Hotland passed by a lot faster than the rest of the Underground, neither having any especially bad memories of the place.
“When Chara went on her murder spree, Alphys had no interest in trying to play the hero with me, like she did when I was the one in control, so she didn’t reactivate the traps or enlist Mettaton’s help in making her look good. So, we practically flew by this area,” Frisk recalled, as she and Sans shared some hotcats by his old sentry station/illicit hotdog stand. The rest of the ‘dogs were balanced on Frisk’s head, for old times’ sake.
The pair decided to bypass the Core entirely, the place no longer being safe to traverse after it’d been shut down, with no one around to maintain it. They took an elevator in the Resort to the Capital, walking along the path as Frisk recounted the tale of Asgore and Toriel’s first children.
“Of course, no one really knew the truth behind Chara and Asriel’s deaths. And I could never tell Mum and Dad about Chara’s plan, either. They’d be devastated. They’d probably even blame themselves for what happened.”
“yep. guess that’ll just have to stay our little secret,” Sans agreed, before he suddenly grimaced. “well, ours and the weed.”
“That “weed” is my brother!” Frisk huffed in exasperation, but Sans merely shrugged unconcernedly.
“heh, you’re just jealous that i have the obviously superior brother,” Sans grinned slyly.
“Sans!” Frisk shoved at his shoulder, as he only chuckled at her mock outraged expression.
The two sobered up, though, when they finally came to the one place both had been dreading the most. The Final Corridor. Or the Judgment Hall, as Chara had taken to calling it.
“so... here again, huh? gotta say, i never expected i’d ever see this place again,” this time, Sans was the one to break the suffocating silence, looking around uncomfortably. “but hey, at least it’s under better circumstances than... ya know, those... other times.”
Frisk only nodded quietly, her arms crossed and shoulders lightly hunched, as she looked around awkwardly at the place where she’d witnessed her dearest friend’s death countless times. For all of her insistence that the both of them come back here, she suddenly found herself uncertain as to how to proceed, as she struggled with her growing anxiety. Sans glanced worriedly at his friend, sensing her obvious discomfort.
“hey. come ‘ere, frisk”
Sans gently took Frisk into his arms, wrapping her up in a reassuring hug.
“now that i think about it, i don’t think i ever told you this, and i really should’ve told you this, a long time ago, but... i forgive you, frisk,” he whispered softly into her ears and she stilled in his arms. “for everything. all that you did, i know you had your reasons and, well... i’m hardly one to judge, am i? so, for what it’s worth, i forgive you.”
One by one, tears began to fall from Frisk’s eyes, until she buried her face in Sans’s hoodie, letting out all of her grief, her heartache, her regret, as her body was wracked by powerful sobs. Sans continued to hold her gently, yet firmly, as he kept whispering his forgiveness to her.
Once her crying had finally subsided, Frisk looked up, gazing at his face in wonder, as Sans stared warmly back at her. Neither knew who had started it, but they both leaned towards each other, meeting in a soft kiss. Parting slightly, they both quickly came together in another, longer kiss, then another, and another, until they were both locked in a passionate embrace. With barely a thought, Sans teleported them both away, their surroundings shifting into a familiar room. Landing abruptly in Sans’s bedroom, in his house in Snowdin, Frisk lost her balance and fell backwards, onto Sans’s bed. Sans was upon her in an instant, hovering over her flushed body, as they both panted lightly. He leaned down, pressing his forehead to hers, his eyelights morphed into loving hearts.
“i love you, frisk.”
“I love you, too, Sans,” Frisk whispered back, her smile radiant.
No more words needed to be said, as Sans descended on her in another feverish kiss. Frisk wrapped her arms around his back, holding him to her just as fiercely. And no words, beyond those of love, were said between the two lovers for quite some time.
__________________________
News of their relationship was met with overwhelming approval from all of their friends, especially Papyrus, who wrapped the both of them up in his arms and spun them around joyfully. No one was especially surprised, though, as it was more than obvious to everyone that the two were extremely close. Alphys and Undyne had even had a betting pool running for how long it would take for the both of them to finally confess and get together officially (“WHY DIDN’T ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS?!” “Because, punk, you’d never be able to keep it a secret! Duh!” “NYEH?!” “W-well, she h-has a p-point...” “NYOO HOO HOO...” “hey, it’s okay, bro. i bet you’d have won anyway, no bones about it” “SANS, STOP MAKING THIS WORSE!”).
Their love for each other only grew over time, as they continued to support each other through the good times and the bad. They were together for the very worst moments of their lives, and the very best, so Frisk did not hesitate to say yes to sharing all of her other moments with Sans, the two vowing to spend the rest of their lives together, in a quiet, intimate wedding, attended only by their closest friends and family. It was the happiest moment of their lives, for a while, up until the birth of their first child and, later on, their second.
The pain and torment they’d suffered had become a distant memory, and while, occasionally, they’d still be troubled by the odd nightmare, or some seemingly innocuous thing might trigger a flashback to darker times, the love and hope in their souls helped them to move forward, cherishing each and every happy moment, appreciating all of their many blessings, and treasuring, above all else, the bond they shared that was, indeed, unbreakable.

Wow, this was incredibly hard for me to write. Turns out, I'm not good at writing angst, it makes me really uncomfortable. But after the latest part of my Lost Child series, which featured a brief cameo from Dusttale Sans, I couldn't shake the desire to fully explore his and Frisk's life after the events of the game, and show how they got together.
This fic explored a lot of sensitive issues, and I hope I dealt with them respectfully. I didn't want to go too deep into Sans and Frisk's troubles and trauma, because it got a bit triggering for me at times, but I hope I conveyed enough of them to give you an idea of what it was like for them.
This is also one of the slowest burns I've ever written and I hate it, but I needed to wait for Frisk to be of age, and for the both of them to be in a good enough place mentally to be ready for a serious relationship.
Now, after all of this angst, I'm in desperate need of some fluff, so that's probably what's coming next from me.

Chara, the fourth Blook cousin:
A crack theory that accidentally become way more serious than it should have because it somehow, despite my best efforts, ended up making sense
Brought to you by my idiot conspiracy brain (affectionate) and by encouragement from my Tumblr followers
Under the cut for the sake of your dashes and sanity
Ok here we go my very elaborate accidental theory, because in order to answer the complex questions simply you must first make simple things more complex or something
First, you need to know that Chara became a Blook cousin by adoption.
All of the Blooks are adopted.
Ghosts are not born into families, they make their own.
Got it? Great, because we’re about to start running
so first, im gonna make surprisingly uncommon claim in this fandom, and I am going to say that undertale ghosts are all dead
I’m taking the tiny details we know about ghosts and sprinting with them to new places
Ghosts also do not have souls I decided
Undertale souls do not work the same as souls in traditional mythology
So every ghost is soulless Unless and Until they become corporeal
Evidence: Monster souls cant exist without bodies, and ghosts are monsters, therefore ghosts cannot have souls without bodies
Further evidence: Asriel doesnt steal blooky’s soul, blooky is unkillable, we have no concrete evidence that blooky has a soul
What about mettaton? He only has a soul after he has completely committed to being corporeal and to a specific body.
Also maddy and mettaton are both only killable while corporeal
Im also connecting the dots we have about souls in a new creative way so let me live for a second
Additionally, i am going to claim that there are a lot more ghosts than just the blooks, some evidence given below
Theres like actual scientific knowlege of ghosts in the undertale verse which seems unlikely if theres literally only three or four
The underground is so much bigger than you think, theres that giant forest in snowdin, a large town in the ruins, the huge city of new home, who knows how much space in the large open areas of waterfall etc. Its really really big okay
Also based off evidence of blooky, we can conclude that ghosts can turn invisible whenever they want to and/or haunt objects to hide
So I personally think that ghosts are, generally speaking, extremely reclusive
And the blooks are just a special exception, a beautiful family, amazing for them
So anyway im going with typical ghost lore for now, for the sake of ease, so im gonna say ghosts generally come from monsters who are particularly restless or unsatisfied when they die
HOWEVER i dont think they remember being monsters or anything before being a ghost. They just kinda fizzle into existance with a fully formed personality and immortality while being unkillable and feeling vaguely uneasy
ALSO i personally think that chara was a ghost for a long time before they became a blook by adoption
Based on game lore, i think ghosts can possess any inanimate object and just kinda wear it? But it takes a lot of strong emotion to become corporeal
And chara is the super weird exception because they were a human not a monster.
They dont have a soul (i headcanon that their soul got destroyed when asriel died)
And they KNOW this, which is a huge part of why they kinda just... give up
Because they lost their ability to fulfill prophecy
Also, without a soul, they lost their ability to reset, so for the first time since falling underground, theyre subject to the relentless march of time
But theyre still weirdly strong and powerful and more emotional
ALSO they DO still remember being a human but they catch on pretty quickly that other ghosts dont have memories and because chara is stupid they just lie to fit in
Theyre too tired to explain themself, they just want to be alone and feel awful
Now back to ghost lore
Emotions are a lot harder for ghosts??? I decided
And they dont know why,, they tend to blame it on the soul thing
But realistically its actually more of the immortality thing making actions not have consequences and/or or not having a body so they cant have a sense of touch or have physical effects of emotion
They all know that ghosts just tend to be way more floaty and bored and numb
And thats part of why the blooks are so special
Maddy’s rage and Mettaton’s yearning and Napstablook’s misery are like... not great all of the time...
but theyre also way way more emotion than most ghosts have,,, they are just a family supporting each other, being as functional as they can,, just an emo(tional) ghost family
most ghosts barely do anything except like stare at walls but the blooks have their snail farm and that helps them have purpose and it is good
And they hold each other accountable and it is nice
So anyway chara just chills and is in a depression coma for a few decades before the blooks find them and are like “our child/baby cousin”
and they raise them for a cool minute
They are all very protective of the new baby emo blook
And chara doesnt get therapy but at the very least they once again have a family, and they decide they want to try to become corporeal eventually just like mtt and maddy
So anyway chara starts hanging out in the ruins a lot more and they finally tell the blooks theyre leaving to go become corporeal in the ruins
This is actually because they are trying to hang out with toriel
because they miss their mom ;;
but chara’s not gonna admit that to anyone, especially not to themself
And because theyre still repressing their emotions constantly and pretending to be fine, they cant become corporeal
And they hang out in the ruins for a long time because they feel guilty lying to everyone about everything
They still feel like its their fault that all the monsters are stuck underground, because they were SUPPOSED to save everyone and they COULDNT and it HURTS
But again, they are doing too much repression to use this guilt to become corporeal,
so instead they just kinda hide and watch toriel from a distance and cry
Blooky visits them the most, thats why blooky is chilling in the ruins so much at the start of the game
Theyre just there to visit their shy baby cousin ;;
Ofc they wont tell frisk about this because chara wants space and privacy and blooky respects that
but maddy and mtt also visit them a lot
Oh also when mtt and maddy start dissapearing, blookys mental health plummets as their family and support system starts to dissolve
Blooky was actually doing extremely well (for a ghost) for a long time, i headcanon,
but theyre doing the worst theyve been in a long long time during the game, because of family issues
So anyway, chara dissapears when frisk shows up, and maddy assumes this is becaude frisk hurt their fragile feelings
Maddy spends hours desperately searching the ruins for chara and cant find them and assumes that they had their heart crushed and went to hide and disappear in a depression coma for another few decades, and thats part of why maddy is so furious with frisk
Like,, to be clear, maddy is still jumping to conclusions and throwing blame around with no proof, but also, its a logical conclusion to come to
And mettaton has already disappeared too and been gone for a while, too, by this point, so it hurts even worse
But anyway, what actually happened to chara is that;
Because chara is a human ghost, not a monster ghost, normal ghost rules dont apply to them
And they can possess living things too they find out
Maybe they knew it a long time ago, maybe its a new discovery, but for whatever reason they end up possessing frisk and theyre like “what the heck”
And frisk still has most of the control
But now chara is like,,, “this is my chance, im a human again, gotta save the world for real,,,”
and they cant explain this to anyone without revealing their past
so they just chill in frisk’s mind while being super crypic and trying to figure out how it works
Pacifist route, this is pretty much exactly what happens
They manage to help frisk save the day
And in my headcanon, the no mercy route is started by frisk who is scared when faced by monsters attacking them
And then chara, who was aready hiding in a semidepression coma for a while, immediately transitions to a panicked “gotta protect this body, gotta protect my chance to be human, i died and threw away my chance to save everyone the first time, i CANNOT lose this chance again”
And so the combination of both frisk and chara is the genocide run
Because frisk kills in self defense, and whenever frisk hesitates, chara jumps in
Also theres leftover feelings from the whole asriel incident
Because again, ghosts come from monsters who died unsatisfied
And chara’s main source of unsatisfaction is how they were trying to get asriel to kill people before he died and then he didnt
So thats a strong strong feeling ruling them
So anyway by the time they both realize how bad its become they figure its too late and also the amount of LOVE has made them numb
And thats when chara who, despite everything, still has idiot hero complex and thinks they need to save the world
So, while panicking, they step in at the very end, and erase the timeline and delete everything
And also to clarify
They DONT HAVE this power at any other point in the game
Because, guess why
They become corporeal
Just like maddy, the no mercy route is the only thing that gives them strong enough emotion to spontaneously become corporeal
So they become corporeal and as soon as they have a soul again and can reset again, they just erase everything
Ok back to fluff
Post pacifist route, they are still a non corporeal ghost
They can still float around and look just like the other blooks
And it takes them a while to open up about things, but they do end up moving back in with blooky so that blooky isnt completely alone
And also they do way better with a family
Also they can float through the mountain and talk to flowey down below and bring him news
And now that they know about him, they can bond with him and explain that they dont have a soul either but that doesnt mean theyre worthless
Oh ALSO
The other dead humans dont have ghosts
BECAUSE
ghosts only come from restless dead MONSTERS
and chara is the weird special exception
Because they were a monster when they died
They became a ghost and asriel didnt because they were way more restless and stressed than asriel was when both of them died
Like sure, asriel felt awful, but chara was the one who was way more like “this is my fault, i CANT die now, the world NEEDS me”
So anyway
charablook the emo tween ghost and asriel flowey the eldrich goat daisy are siblings once more and they hang out and eventually they are okay and have a family again
Thank you for reading, this has been my thoughts on a crack theory that accidentally went too far
This isnt even everything, maybe i’ll make a part two eventually, but i promised to have this post out like two days ago, so i wanted to post SOMTHING
Anyway leave your thoughts if youd like
Im not looking for people to disprove it, i already know its crazy, i dont think it was intentional by the game writers, but i do think its a fun concept
thats the fun of it, so if anyone wants to run with it im all for it lol
Thanks again! Have a nice day!

ALRIGHTY! LOYAL HERE COMING IN WITH THE CIRCUS HAHAHA
Btw, I’m like 90% sure that I fell asleep while writing so it just stops. Like, there’s no ending/summary/whatever word I’m looking for but can’t think of at the moment and my bird is currently chewing on my phone case oh my god can she please stop—
__________________
I believe the concept of yanderes ft. a isekai-d reader has been mentioned by Shepard and her anons, tho it’s been mainly for Origins SMP. So, I come to you with ideas for the Dream SMP because that’s all I’m familiar with HAHAH—
Also, I apologize in advance because this thing is borderline an essay with how long it is. I’m so sorry—
For example *cue dramatic lighting and a cheesy flashback monologue thingie* oh my god I think I’m losing it, I’m so tired
Y/n and their younger sibling, Frisk, had just finished up another press conference regarding Monsters being back on the surface. All seems to be going well until the ground beneath their feet vanishes and they fall unconscious a few moments later. When they awaken, they notice they’re surrounded by humans—wait they aren’t all humans, what the fuck, since when are there hybrids? They knew everyone from the underground—by name, no less—and had never heard of any currently living hybrids. Only of ones from before the war. Besides, Monsters have been on the surface for a month at most, so there is no way for... oh boy, their head is spinning.
After some very...tense...introductions (“Hi, I never saw you guys Underground, nor have I heard of you, no offense. So, uh, which monsters are you guys related to?” “OI, I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT TUBBO IS NOT A MONSTER!”) they come to the realization that y/n is most definitely not from this world, or even this universe. Y/n’s adamant refusal to fight the “real monsters” that roam this land (“I did not spend countless timelines weeks putting my life on the line to befriend every monster, break the barrier that trapped them Underground, and defend them against my own god forsaken race just to turn my back on them.”) was a pretty big sign, after all. That, along with species of monsters that the SMP members have never heard of and how y/n talked about Souls as if they were a tangible thing.
It’s a rocky start before any sort of friendship is formed: y/n, wanting to be cautious, (and also not having Sans there to CHECK for them) decides to ask everyone what their LV is. It’s risky, and they had no way to prove if anyone is (or isn’t) telling the truth, but it was worth a shot. “Our levels?” A small goat hybrid asked, his head slightly tilting to the side. Everyone assumes that y/n is talking about enchantment levels. “I’m at 26! Ranboo, you’re at 30, right?” “I’m at 37 now, actually.” “Well, I’M at 58. Clearly I’m the superior one here. A real big man, a very manly man, aren’t I?” And a few others pipe in. Color drains from y/n’s face and they take a few steps back, hands shaking as their eyes dart between each person in the room and the exit. ‘How many lives have they each taken to make their LOVE so high? Why do they seem so proud of it?’ Yeah... that was an interesting experience.
- even though they have been reassured multiple times that the monsters of this world are nothing like the ones from their home, y/n still refuses to kill a single one, as I had mentioned earlier. They also refuse to kill animals. It takes a couple tries at explaining LV or LOVE—Level Of ViolencE—along with EXP—EXecution Points—but eventually everyone is on the same page
- Y/n is hesitant to bring out their SOUL when asked. First off, though they’re now friends with those from the Underground, they can’t help but be reminded of every spear, knife, bone, petal, gaster blaster, and fireball that has been aimed at them with the intent to kill whenever their SOUL was drawn into an encounter back then. Second of all, showing your SOUL is something you do with those you trust with your life—after all, you’re literally putting your lifeline out on display when you do so. There are so many different ways that the SMP members can see it
- Perhaps a monster appears
- Eggpire or Dream attack
- Someone forces y/n into an encounter because everyone is too curious to just let this opportunity slip by
- When y/n discovers that the people of this land have more than one life, they’re confused. There is no way that all of these people have SOULS of Determination, and there’d definitely be some issues if people kept rewinding time to their last save point. Besides, only one Determination SOUL—the strongest one—should be able to respawn. Then again, they only know what Frisk had explained to them. They were never able to see the save stars that Frisk would interact with in the different sections of the Underground. So they only have so much to go off of.
- Battle for them is completely different. Despite being in a different world, the mechanics from their world still apply. They can FIGHT, ACT, use an ITEM or show MERCY.
- They use Frisk’s tactic and flirt their way out of a fight or two. They never understood why Frisk did it until now... ‘I mean, I...wow. That was actually effective.’ They’re impressed.
- Oh no, maybe that wasn’t the best idea...they might have some yanderes after them bc of it...
- They probably have accidentally called Philza ‘Asgore’ and Tubbo ‘Asriel’ because both hybrids remind her of the two males from her world. Similar personalities AND Tubbo is a goat hybrid. The poor child is going to be so confused
- If Tubbo’s a yandere oh boy it’s going to be so easy for him. Y/n will probably be constantly at his side and telling him stories about the first fallen child and how they were adopted by the royal family, who are goat monsters! And just explaining the history of the underground and how important the goat family is. Talks about Asriel a lot as well. Probably makes him butterscotch cinnamon pie and tries to recreate golden flower tea to share with him as well. Or, they do that and he’s not yandere and it’s just wholesome.
- If we follow the headcanons that some fans have made, perhaps Frisk (and/or y/n) gave up half of their SOUL to give to either (or both) Chara or Asriel so they’d have another chance at life
- Not only does y/n refuse to kill, which leaves them vulnerable, they also only have half a SOUL, which means they’re incredibly weak. Someone needs to protect them, someone needs to keep them safe, someone needs to—
- Y/n is incredibly agile thanks to all the battles they’ve faced Underground. With their SOUL always out in the open during an encounter and the fact that they refuse to harm anyone, it’s required. I’m imagining them moving like a dancer, using jumps and spins to help them avoid any weapons swung at them.
- This is gonna be annoying for any yandere that wishes to lock y/n up. Even if they won’t physically hurt someone, they WILL put up a fight and make it as hard as they possibly can to be dragged into isolation or imprisonment
- When it comes to who goes yandere, I believe what color of SOUL y/n has (their personality, in summary) would play a big role. Here’s a few of my ideas, feel free to move people around or add to it, I’m really tired and can’t think of many characters LOL
- Red (determination): Wilbur, Technoblade
- Orange (bravery): Technoblade, Dream, Tommy
- Yellow (justice): Sam, Technoblade
- Green (kindness): the kids of the server, Fundy, and Ghostbur
- Cyan (patience): Ranboo, Ghostbur, Karl
- Dark blue (integrity): Tubbo, Philza, Sam
- Purple (perseverance): Dream—this man would love to see how long it would take for your perseverance to run out. I wouldn’t be surprised if your perseverance is the only reason he’s interested.

From what I saw of the end of what I wrote, it is DEFINITELY cut short. At least I mentioned every SOUL type lolol.
Also, I found a whole other note that’s a continuation of this concept but for y/n being from another game what the hell was I doing—
Expect that to come in another ask once I eat dinner
Sorry i took so long to answer!! I kept getting distracted!
That stuff is so pog man!!!! Puffy might be called “Toriel” once in a while because mom energy and she sheep,,, close to goat!
Gosh all the flirting will bring in so many yanderes or make ppl like “yo wtf??” And there’s a very small amount that are inbetween.
OKAY BUT WITH THE MONSTER STUFF ON THE DSMP- they’d keep the monsters in their house. They’d give them food and everything. Some def become very friendly and will defend. Haha giant spider go prrrrrr
I’d write more but there is so much amazing stuff I don’t think I could add to some of them anyways!!! Plus my mind is just racing other places rn haha

How do monsters age? Also how old are the brothers?
~ Sincerely, a very Library Anon ~
Hello! Thanks for the ask, and also sorry for you, my friend, who’s about to have pages of me rambling about my thoughts and headcanons that may or may not be entirely supported by the game for a socially unacceptable amount of time <3
HOW MONSTERS AGE
I’ve actually had multiple different headcanons when it comes to monster age! They all go into three different categories: “all monsters age slower”, “they age the same way (unless they’re a boss monster without a kid)” and “some monsters age like humans, some slower and some quicker depending on species”. But, I now have one that goes into a slightly different category.
Now, I think, “what if their aging is a bit of everything?”
Allow me to explain what I mean.
My first headcanon was that monsters age 10x slower than a human does. Just choose a human age for a character and then tack on a 0 to the end of the number and you’ve got the right age. A part of me still wants to go that route, simply because it’s easier…
… but then, a monster would be a literal child while being 100 years old. It would make it a bit awkward to write about human kids being friends with monster kids lol, ngl. (Also I don’t want to write Sans and Papyrus as being like 250 years old.) Not to mention, it’s a bit boring. So I decided to spice it up a bit, if you will.
Let’s start explaining this by taking a monster with an average mental state who is the most average of species. They’re not suffering from any mental disorders, illnesses, have no trauma or physical ailments and are overall just what you’d call an averagely happy person. There’s nothing special about this monster. They’re literally the most average of average monsters, maybe so average they don’t even actually exist - they are made up by the statistics.
At first, they age quicker than a human does. While they’re what would translate to 5 human years (AKA when they’re 5 monster years), they are actually only 2 human years. At age 10 in monster years, they are 5 in human years. Their aging starts to slow down at 16 monster years, and by the time they’re 25 in monster years, they are also 25 in human years. Then it slows down even more quickly and on a huge scale, so that when they are 50 in monster years, they are about 500 in human years. On average, a normal monster becomes 2000 human years old. (Keep in mind, that this monster is so average they don’t exist - this aging varies a lot between species.)
Now, let’s take another monster of this same statistics-made species who is more happy than the average monster. They’ve experienced many good things, and bad things happening to them are unusual, but not unusual enough to make the happy moments meaningless. They make sure to care of themself and take their own feelings into consideration, they know their own worth. A monster like this may become up to a staggering 4000 human years old with some luck.
Finally, here’s a monster who suffers and just… isn’t happy. They suffer from trauma, have gone through horrible things, overall just not a very good time. They’re very likely to only get to 800 human years or less, if things don’t start looking up for them.
However, these aging mechanics also get more complicated when we get into species of monsters and monsters having children. Gerson, who is a turtle-species, ages about 5x slower than the average monster, which is why he was alive during wartime (though he is near the end of the line now, he’s only maybe 20 years from dying by the end of the game). A whimsun definitely won’t live past 1000 years, even if they’re the happiest whimsun on the planet, because their magic isn’t strong enough to last.
A boss monster (Toriel, Asgore, Asriel) doesn’t age past 30 until they have a child. When/if they have that child, they age at the same speed as the kid does. If the child dies, however, they stop aging again.
Speaking of not aging when their kids die, the same kinda goes for every other monster to a much smaller extent.
A non-boss monster will slow their aging after their kid dies. If they survive losing their kid (because a lot of monsters would dust from the hopelessness they feel after losing somebody so important), their aging slows by about 150%, again depending on the species of the monster.
However, despite their slow aging, monsters are weaker than humans. Too unstable emotions or living in conditions that make the monster feel unsafe may fuck up thair aging, as mentioned previously. To go into more detail about this: the aging process is not messed up by the situation the monster is in - the monster could be in the most horrible position without their aging being affected at all - but it has to do with how their hope is affected.
If a monster loses hope, their aging is affected so it speeds up. If they gain hope, it slows down.
Taking this in mind, let’s talk about the skeleton brothers’ ages!
Let’s start with the Undertale brothers, since they’re the “base” for the ages.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what I think their ages are, but I would say that:
At the time the game takes place, Sans is about 24-28 years old in monster years and Papyrus is about 19-23 in monster years. In human years, Sans is about 23 and Papyrus has recently turned 18. This has to do with their experiences in life.
Sans only has 1 HP. Skeleton monsters are among the groups that age more slowly, which ends up with him aging a tiny bit quicker than the ‘average monster’. This HP is mostly brought on by his clinical depression (which is actually very rare to have for a monster).
Papyrus ages slower than the ‘average monster’. He’s full of HoPe and is one of the most compassionate monsters, which says a lot by the way lol. But, we can’t forget that he literally didn’t have any friends, which did deal a huge blow to his self-confidence even if he won’t admit it. He aged just a little quicker than a skeleton monster should, at the time the game takes place (though this does change in my fics and headcanons right away, all he needs is one (1) friend to age as slowly as he should, or well. Slower, actually).
So, now that I’ve put down the base for what the two brothers are, let’s just straight up say: all the AU brothers are the same age in human years and there’s only small differences for the monster ages. Except for in Horrortale, which takes place later than the base game does.
I can’t say how old they are here, though, not exactly, because it would obviously vary depending on how long we wait to see them after the starvation starts, as horrible as that sounds. All my headcanons are off the basis that they were left in the Underground for about five human years after Frisk left, so let’s just go with that. After five years in the Underground, Dusk (Horrortale Sans) is about 38 in monster years and Aster (Horrortale Papyrus) is about 37 (he caught up quickly to his brother, as the things that happened took a bigger toll on him).
I want to mention, however, that all my headcanons for ages are very loose and not entirely my “final decision” on how I think monsters age lol, and they may change in the future. Anyways, this is what I’m going for as of right now! If you want any clarification feel free to ask :-)

Helllo!!! I’m loving your headcanons so far!!!
Do you have any general personalities descriptions for your boys yet?
a of all, bsdaifjkbfjkowp thank you!!! b of all, im sorry this took so long?? i rewrote it like 3 times & it still might change bc im indecisive. also it turned into a lil bit of a headcanon post. i hope its understandable?
once again i am struck with the fact that the boys need nicknames. hmm.
UNDERTALE:
Sans: Guy who is deliberately and unabashedly Cringe. Overall, fairly laid back. However, he still prefers to maintain distance between himself and most people. It was already a natural facet of his personality but it was exacerbated by the Timeline Jank. People tend to forget he’s as smart as he is, they don’t think he’s stupid, they just mostly know that funnyman side of him. If you're a dick to Papyrus, he's gonna be a dick to you.
Papyrus: Things are so exciting and fascinating to him, even the most mundane things. Despite seeming completely oblivious to things that seem completely obvious, he's very smart and deceptively cunning. Even though he knows how people see him (a big loud child) and he doesn't get quite the reception his brother does, he knows he'll win them over one day! He tries to avoid thinking about how lonely he actually is. It’s fine. He knows Sans is dealing with something (he won’t tell him what) but he figures he doesn’t need much else on his plate.
UNDERSWAP:
Sans: In this post, I mentioned that he's kind of always naturally been the more outgoing brother and that he's taken on this much more outgoing and bubbly persona as a result of the impact the timelines have had on him. He's competitive in a more aggressive way (maybe not quite the right word to use but), by which I mean he's kind of a sore loser sometimes. Also? He's a huge flirt, he's pretty skilled in the art of flustering.
Papyrus: Also in this post, I said that he's pretty chill until the conversation turns to something he's passionate about, then he reaches True Papyrus Volume Levels (and Chaos Levels). He is fairly relaxed, yes, but part of it is compensating for how awkward he can be. He gets embarrassed really easy, even something as small as misunderstanding something that was said. However! He’s a pretty popular artist online! Though he uses a pseudonym, being recognized and talked to by a stranger in public is not something he would look forward to.
UNDERFELL:
Sans: He’s cruel and crude, that’s kind of his whole thing. He’s not really the best at keeping a hold on his temper (though there’s a few other factors at play there). Keeping up the whole tough guy persona is the number one priority thus he doesn’t deal much with his emotions or inner turmoil or any of that other crap. Like US!Sans, he’s a flirt, except his flirting is mostly crude comments and jokes. And yet, somehow it works? Guy who is a disaster. He’s oddly nostalgic, mostly about his relationship with Papyrus. He wishes he could have been a better brother, but it seems like their relationship is too far gone.
Papyrus: He also doesn’t have the best control of his temper but he has an image to keep, one of a cruel and cold Royal Guard Captain. He didn’t used to be like this, but it’s necessary for his survival. He’s still surprisingly empathetic, something that could never really be beat out of him. HUGE perfectionist nearly to the point of it being debilitating. He oscillates between hating how weak he is and desperately wanting to be able to be weak. While he acts prideful about his ‘work’ int the Royal Guard, he is genuinely prideful about things like his cooking. Often to the point of arrogance.
SWAPFELL:
Sans: He’s seen as very cold and calculating, well-spoken. But he also knows when and how to turn on the charm. That’s how he’s even made it this far in life, it’s vital to his survival. He can also be very prideful, particularly in his position as Queen Toriel’s right hand and in his ability to remain cool in high stress situations. He’s well aware of how overprotective he is with Papyrus, he’s terrified of how cruel the world is and terrified that he’s stunted him to the point of not being able to cope with it.
Papyrus: He’s deathly shy. If it were safe/a good idea to use his own brand of shortcuts to get out of situations, by god would he. He, like his non-Fell counterpart, thrives in the relative anonymity of being online. Past that barrier of shyness, he’s excitable and surprisingly jovial. He tries to find some reason to be at least content, he thinks it helps Sans worry less (even if it doesn’t really). He’s actually pretty mischievous, though only dares to pull pranks on his brother.
HORRORTALE:
Sans: Horribly cynical and jaded. He’s working on it, even if he doesn’t particularly want to sometimes. He’s not home, so to speak, most of the time. He’s easily frustrated by the gaps in his memory, then he forgets why he’s frustrated and gets even more upset. He’s naturally very wary of everyone else and again, very much prefers to keep distance between himself and most everyone he comes into contact with.
Papyrus: He definitely tries to hide everything behind a happy demeanor, he tries to fix everything for just about anyone (especially his brother) without any fuss and tries to make it seem like he’s totally fine. There’s also this sense of jadedness, he tries to curb it but sometimes it still slips out. He still tries to act like himself, like he’d been before the Famine, but it’s exhausting and he’ll eventually come to terms with the fact that he’s no longer the same.
HORRORSWAP:
Sans: His competitive nature has morphed more into him being more of an aggressive hothead (though not quite to the level of UF!Sans). He’s really self-conscious about his new stutter and bringing it up frustrates him the same way treating him like a child had before. He has terrible mood swings, he can ruin his own day over nothing and it kills him. He’s really trying to get better, but he still has a hard time being honest with people.
Papyrus: He’s gotten pretty cynical since the Famine, he puts part of the blame on himself (if only he'd just been brave for once), even though he knows there's not really a whole lot he could have done. He’s even quieter than he used to be, he’d prefer if he could just fade into the background. He hates how much he stands out in any crowd and tries to avoid going out at all costs. The only one who can get him out is Sans because at least they can ignore everyone else and concern themselves with each other.
HORRORFELL:
Sans: He’s...mean. Like. He tends to be a major jackass. He can’t help but think well, humans aren’t exactly gonna wanna know a monster, much less him. And hey! Might just help keep his newly expanded family safe! He ain’t complainin’! He’s really just bitter about how things have gone for him and his brother (and about how things will likely go in the future). For as many dark jokes he makes to Frisk and Aliza, he’d be the first one to come to their rescue, he’s just that kind of friend.
Papyrus: He’s fairly quiet these days, but don’t think he’s not going to find some way to give you some kind of attitude. He’s been putting a lot of work into taming his anger, which is no small task considering everything. He still has his moments, but he prides himself in being able to cool off and keep himself somewhat calm. He still hasn’t been able to do much about his perfectionism, in fact it’s gotten worse, but he’s trying. And he, like his brother, is extremely protective of his little family, and god help anyone who dares try anything.
A B-Bonus????
UF!Comic Papyrus: (he’s the only one with a nickname...lol) Reggie here struggles a lot with who he is as a person, is he more Sans? More Papyrus? An even 50/50? Or is he someone else entirely? He’s introspective and hyper aware of his mannerisms, particularity in the ones he deems too Sans-like or too Papyrus-like. He’s not exactly the nicest, partially as a mechanism to keep people away (it’s just...easier that way). Reggie keeps to himself most of the time. He’s not shy though, he’s more than willing to speak his mind, even if it comes out more crass than it was intended.
