👆This just about sums it up for me, a real review from a real paper not a paid promo success piece from Hello or channel 4 blowing its own trumpet. If you google the series IBMd has it rated 5.2/10 at the moment of writing. (Saying something is brilliant does not make it so, unless you want to brainwash. Kenneth springs to mind taking a whole year+ to talk up Belfast so he would finally get that Oscar for the not so outstanding Belfast 🙄)

Well for me TCND started off with a ‘OMG not again!’ for the opening shot. I said to hubby ‘I hate it when they do that!’. The second scene supposedly set in Leeds wtf? Why didn’t they find a more convincing housing estate…then (Sam) Danny picking up the washing machine…dear god it made me cringe and that’s just for starters!

Sam…I could not get past his ‘Yorkshire’ accent?… well he did his best, it came through well some of the time. It’s sad but production were aware they were not going to predominantly film in Yorkshire or substitute location with a suitable comparison so why the need for him to do a Yorkshire accent? They could have set this story anywhere. Why not let Sam do his normal Scottish accent ? Far more sexy! Bad decision imo.

I could go on…especially the ladies dress code for a casual UK BBQ, LMAO. For sure my neighbour and I need to up our game at our next one! Seductive dresses, tits out and heels on! Husbands can’t wait…🤣

Does it appear Sam was hired for his body?…absolutely! Is he typecast as the guy who does sex?…looks like it. If he wanted to up his stakes as a good actor imo this was not the project. Can he do chemistry with anyone but Caitriona?… barely, but this was his best effort so far. Sex scenes and build up no 🔥 for me. I found it more cringe so fast forward came into play. Seems Sam is okay with full nudity and grinding again so can’t wait for OL S8! No need for J&C sex scenes to be PG…

Continuity, script, direction, production…dear god did outlander do it?

Out of all the actors Jessica De Gouw (Becka) stood out with a consistent performance.

Gripping? Nah, wanted to give up many times but finally got past ep 3 and pace seemed to increase so eventually got to the end which was then suddenly abrupt.

I wanted to like it, but for me it was blah…should have been amazing! Fail is more down to script, direction and production, had a giggle most of the way through at the script and said wtf and why a lot? ….🤷‍♀️still they all had fun making it and got paid!

For those who thought it enjoyable and hot I am really pleased for you! Sex for sex sake came to my mind, script all over the place one minute quite good another that’s shit.

For me in the words of a true Yorkshire man…

Maybe if I had a couple of wines with the cheese and knew it was not going to be a quality drama but a cheesy soap it would have gone down better.

Strikes me his fate in life is to be an alcohol god, that’s his true path…acting gave him his wife and family and that’s all he needs from it. It appears it’s not in his destiny for it to do anything more than that…🤷‍♀️JMHO

So if you haven’t seen it and want to then I suggest lots of wine and lower your expectations to a tv movie or soap and you will probably enjoy it and think it’s better than it was…🤪

July Report: BL that Stopped & Started & Is worth Your time

Step By Step

This was Thailand’s answer to The New Employee, and everything I loved about that show I loved about this one.

This was an office romance between stern boss and sweet subordinate that felt more authentic to an office environment than previous Thai BLs of this ilk. And that authenticity added tension to the narrative and character development (how novel). Now that might be because it has western source material, or it might be because it is actually kind of old-fashioned (it’s been years since I worked as an office grunt). I also really enjoyed the brothers’ relationship, and kinda wished they hadn’t attempted (and failed) to give said brother his own side BL. That one flaw made it a 9/10 for me.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

La Pluie

This BL takes to task the fated mates trope and what it means to have love chained intimately to predestination. It’s about how faith in destiny before choice diminishes the authenticity of emotion, relationships, and connection. This is a high concept to examine through the lens of a BL.

By activating + examining the soulmates trope this show is challenging a foundation of romance: the idea that there is one person meant to be your one romantic partner all your life. This means that we, as viewers, spend much of the show worried about it having a happy ending, and that’s the source of both its brilliance and tension: would the narrative have the strength to truly challenge its own romantic core? But, ultimately, all this elevated complexity was executed in a somewhat shaky manner with the narrative derailing into some serious pacing issues and characters manipulated by miscommunication.

However, with good chemistry and decent acting all around, plus some excellent high heat and representation of consent and a few other rare tropes, this one has to (like it’s sibling show My Ride) earn a 9/10. I enjoyed it even as it made me think, so despite its flaws:

This show is very like Manner of Death but so far it is a much better/tighter story (there's a Devil Judge aura happening). It’s NOT BL but it is fucking phenomenal. And you should watch it. Not wait to binge it. WATCH IT.

On a global scale this might be the best thing currently airing featuring gay romantic leads. Its really fucking good. It’s Lawless Lawyer but more complex character motivation and gay af. Fuck yes please and thank you. FINALLY.

“here, have some help.” she says with a wink and she walks out. you hear voices and you look at the doorway, soon seeing heeseung enter. he softly sighs as you drop your soft expression to glare at him.

“hi,” he softly says and you roll your eyes. “hey, i’m sorry about it.”

“hyunjin’s my friend, too, you know?” you say, frowning at him and he nods. “what the hell was that, then?”

“i don’t know,” he softly says. “i was just looking forward to hanging out with you and… i don’t know, really. i’m sorry, forgive me.” he says and you sigh, taking out more clothes out of your closet. “are you… taking your whole closet with you?”

“if i could, i would.” you say, looking at your clothes and then to him. “help me?”

heeseung smiles, nodding as he grabs your new luggage that was still in the plastic bag packaging it came with. “did you really have to buy a new one?” he asks and you chuckle, shaking your head.

“i found my old luggage broken, so…” you say and he nods as he rips the plastic open. you look at your clothes and heeseung starts to suggest the clothes you should take with you. he told you to plan the outfits you were going to wear and you immediately have them already.

“y/n, just ten and two extras are enough! you’re not moving there, remember?” heeseung says and you would pout at him. “you still have your toiletries and stuff, remember?” thank god for lee heeseung or you would have packed everything. 

“your hand carry?” heeseung asks and you grab your bag right away. heeseung lists the things you need and you put them in. after an hour and half, heeseung is zipping your luggage close and you smile at him. he stands up from the floor, smiling at you. “wanna go out for dinner?”

“yeah, sure!” you say. “just give me a minute?”

heeseung nods and you grab a white ribbon from your desk as you tie it on the handle of your luggage. “what’s it for?” heeseung asks.

“you know, in case i have the same luggage with someone.” you say. “and so i can see it right away.” you say and heeseung nods, looking around your room. 

“fuck, no.” he says as he goes to the thing that caught his eyes. your eyes follow him and when you see him look at the flower arrangement he made, your cheeks grow red. “you kept it?” heeseung says as he examines it. all flowers on it still look as alive as they were when he was putting them together. you were taking care of it. “i thought you put it back or something.”

“i told you,” you softly say. “if you sell them, i’d buy them.”

heeseung chuckles, pulling you in an embrace and you relax in his arms as he smiles. “i missed you, you know?” he says, closing his eyes as he rests his chin on your head.

“and whose fault is that?” you say and he laughs. “i’m sorry, too.”

“you didn’t do anything wrong.” he says, pulling away. he grabs the bambi sticker from your desk, looking at it.

“was going to put it on the pot of the flowers,” you say and heeseung looks at you, smiling.

“can i put it on your luggage?” he softly asks and you hum, looking at your luggage. you nod and heeseung smiles widely, taking the biggest sticker and putting it at the right top of the luggage. “by the way,”

you hum, looking at him as he walks closer to you, stopping right in front of you. he looks into your eyes and you just look back at him. “family reunion, hm? how do you feel?” he softly asks and you smile, shrugging.

“i’m kind of nervous…?” you softly say, chuckling. “other aunts and uncles are probably going to notice the slightest change in me, if ever there’s any. mom and dad are for sure not going to mention the stuff after college, since everyone will be there and i’m just looking forward to having fun with my cousins.” you say and he nods.

“if anything happens, just call me, okay?” he says and you smile, nodding. “hey, i’m serious!” heeseung says, hands holding your shoulders. “call me or text me if you’re in a bad mood, if you would feel sad, whatever! if you need me to, i’ll fly out to you.”

“heeseung!” you softly exclaim, laughing lightly, but you could see it in his eyes that he meant it. he would fly out if you asked him to. “thank you.” you say and he opens his arms to which you jump in right away, hugging him. “when are jay and ae-cha moving?”

“the day you come back.” heeseung says and you nod, pulling away lightly.

“when i come back, how about i crash at yours?” you offer and heeseung widely smiles right away, nodding in agreement. “okay.” you softly say and he smiles.

“come on, let’s get dinner. let’s bring your aunt along.”

my school has a wrirers club and im part of it. todays thing was you have 2 minutes to write something, then pass the page to the person on your left and then 2 minutes to write on the next page so everyone has written something on everyones page. mine started as a broadchurch fanfic cuz im so original and... heres the final thing (different color means new person)

"Oh no, I hate being crazy." She said manically. Then she did a backflip (ELLIE'S GOT SKILLS) to illustrate her instability. However, she didn't think about how previously incompetent she was at gymnastics. She fell. It hurt (no shit), but the pain and mania created the perfect blend to allow her to be brought back to the present.

Ellie continued to buy more Fortnite emotes and skins. Especially The Weeknd. He looked mighty fine in that suit. (HELP???)Ellie whistled.

Ellie then went to Molly's(who tf is molly) and gave her a Fortnite skin to wear. She was obsessed. Molly staged an intervention but it did not succeed, as Ellie started throwing bricks on the ground (why lmao) and hopping in the air before flopping away.

Suddenly, Beethoven appeared (HELP LMAO??? BEETHOVEN WAS IN EVERY STORY NO JOKE). He was very evil. He wanted to impede the protagonist's goals (plot twist: there are no goals except to buy fortnite shit). How sinister.

Beethoven got into a fight with Karkat Vanks, from the hit webcomic Homestuck (ok free promo for homestuck ig. idk ive never read it). Karkat won, beheading Beethoven and spitting on his dead body (WHAT). Karkat then bit Beethoven in half and disappeared (tf-). The End!!!

basically the take away is never owe ellie any robux and never let anyone finish your story!

Yea, probably - Raina is a hardcore Jensen/Dean stan who reblogs ppl like cynifer so that should tell you all you need to know about them. They love to jump in and comment on posts that are even mildly Jensen critical. On the layoffs post they made two comments:

raina16: If it was actually a dumpster fire I would think he could have gotten a job elsewhere long before getting laid off. They also just won a major Texas beer award that's a pretty big deal. Maybe it's sour grapes because he got laid off. And in any case Gino runs it, not Jensen. Most beverage and food establishments don't last half as long as FBBC already has. raina16: Jensen was there working because that's how he has to do it now that he lives in Connecticut, come in periodically and do all his work at once. The difference between being laid off and fired is who is at fault. Being fired means you are terminated from your job due to something that the company deems was your fault. If you are laid off, that means the company deems that they are at fault.

So if these employees were laid off and not fired then they aren't at fault and might not have seen it coming since they clearly didn't commit fireable offenses.

Then we go into FBBC praise - "they won an award (that's a "pretty big deal") so they must be doing fine!" Listen, they won an award for ONE SPECIFIC BEER they brewed, not their business as a whole. Even failing businesses can make a good product, doesn't mean they aren't still failing.

Gotta throw in the "in any case its all actually Gino's fault and not Jensen's" - so you're admitting there IS something wrong? But ofc it could never ever be Jensen's fault!! 🙄

And then finally had to add another comment just to make sure people know that's its totally not weird that all of the sudden Jensen is actually working at his business that he hasn't been seen at in years (unless for events where he is the main attraction and they are charging people a ton of money to attend). And lets not forget that its weird AF that they had at least 3 separate employees AND the FBBC account all document Jensen being there to work... Plus Jensen posting ig stories about it. holy shit. that's a lot. i am retroactively impressed with my past self for doing all this, lmao. nice.

third of all! i wanna note that i started several projects this month that i have yet to finish. of course i'm not confining my quantum break posting to one month of the year (impossible) but i will take my time finishing the... uh... three fics and two meta essays i have unfinished, as well as the fansite i am working on. i want these to be GOOD, so i'm not going to rush them. i'm glad this month gave me to juice to finally get these projects started, though!

and lastly... why did i even do this project/event in the first place?

well... good question. i imagine i'm not the only one who has been Going Through It for a while now, and i just... really needed a big project to focus on for a while. and quantum break is like, one of the only things that i never get tired of thinking about, so... are you seeing my logic here?

Yesterday i was talking on here about how just, unwell i was about Fediel's cosplayer, she's so hot and for what??? but tbh all of the dragons are INCREDIBLE, they look straight up out of the VN it's uncanny.

I love to see the oldie cosplayers come back too, the dragon knights and the society's cosplayers are always fun to see around, seeing the fox family always makes me teary, and BOY the wmtsb gang knows how to offer a show. The Belial cosplayer lives in all our mind rentfree ahah.

Also huge shout out to Lyria's cosplayer who captures so well what it is to be The Babiest Baby You Would Die For (And Already Have, Twice). Like i see her and i'm just "oh yeah me too i'd die for her, great job". She makes me happy everytime i see it.

also omg the fashion show was such a cool idea??? it was so wild to see recreations of costumes that only appeared in obscure promo arts from the way back, and it was so amazing to see how all those cosplayers, who have been trained to behave like their characters so much, wear it with so much grace and elegance and, so in character. It's so amazing.

Also huge shout out to THE SETS????? Like holy shit the whole Canaan's stained glasses are eVERYTHING, the huge statues of Bahamut, Galleon and all, are just so fucking gorgeous, and i'm always in love with the café and the sets made to hang out. It makes the whole environment feel so real it always look so dreamy.

And personally i'm a huge fan of the seiyuu shows, as a big seiyuu fan, and one of my fav seiyuu was on stage today so i was really having tunnel vision LMAO, but the games were sooo fun and i loved to see them all blatantly cheat at weighting plushies. I can't believe we're getting rewards out of it. (and also i want the Galleon big plush so bad after all of this, they're taunting me so much).

And the announcements!!!! The New class is so cool, Vikala getting her 5* was long overdo thanks god, AND LU WOH!!!!!!!!!!! Would almost forget he was planned at this point i'm just so glad he's not a fever dream LMAO. And personally i'm just thrilled because while Seiyuu fans have been theorizing ever since he came out, we didn't know his seiyuu until now, and they confirmed it's, also, one of my fav seiyuu, so now i'm forced to stan harder than i did before 😩✌

but even without the seiyuu angle i'm just so glad he was finally announced, it's been long overdue and i sure hope he saves Light from the state it's in right now.

That said they're keeping some announcements for tomorrow and i'm SO curious about what's to come. It's so bewildering to see so many things come out of all of it! And we're likely getting the anni trailer too then so i am really curious what it will be!

I agree with you about the second chapter.

Before the pandemic we were used to periods berween albums when they gave us non-music related content then they would announce the album, then the promo, album release and repeat. It was more structered and worked really well in balancing things by feeding the fandom content not too much or too little, letting us breathe, earn some money and starve us for new music.

Now it’s all a mess. A hiatus announced in the middle of a cb which might have been a good thing because the 3 songs weren’t good. Then all the content they dropped next which felt rushed and too much and overlapped with Hobi’s solo which in my opinion shouldn’t happen to any member and then silance. Nothing that intresting is going on besides some mediocre collabs.

And now looking back I really don’t understand why they rushed Hobi’s album like that?! I thought after the short promo they were going to announce Rm’s based on how they moved, but no. It’s a filer period. At least Jimin’s coming live.

Yeah, well... the media did that because the media knows what "hiatus" means for boybands. There aren't many executives and all that expecting them to ever comeback as BTS. And that's the thing, if they didn't say anything nobody would've noticed anything different because this is the literally the way things have been happening for a couple of years: run had stopped already, bangtanbombs were almost non-existent already, they would have a few schedules here and there, then nothing for the most part of the year, and then at the end of the year two weeks full of schedules and activities every day and that was it. They could've kept going without saying anything and just ease everyone into it, kind of? Members were already getting separate solo schedules, too. Jungkook, Taehyung travelling overseas alone, Yoongi and PSY. Like I've said, waiting until the end of the year with members enlisting would've been the perfect excuse and media wouldn't have panicked either, because everyone knows military service is something they can't avoid. It would've been a perfectly reasonable and not suspicious at all excuse for a "hiatus".

It's great that they announced it, I like when things are clear and there's no gray areas, but I'm still questioning the timing of it all. To do it alongside an album release, to not release new albums at all for three years, to not even do festa or muster. Proof was actually treated more like a funeral than a celebration of years.

I agree that they wanted time for themselves, I'm actually 1000% sure of that and I know I've said it before in some post, but it seems to me that they would've still gotten that. Because nothing seems to be different from how BTS has been since after dynamite. They had a 4 month break at the beggining of the year. All about proof was done in October 2021. They could've even announced the hiatus at the end of last year and then sell Las Vegas concerts as a "farewell for now" show, but they just ended it in cold blood.

So, it's like.. I understand that they were burned out, even the in-relationships of the group on camera were kind of fucked up, or at least it seemed to me in comparison to years before, like a lot of things had lost sincerity. They needed a break, I know that and it's a good thing because I know a lot of people who felt like they were pushing a lot of stuff that made fans uncomfortable and were weird. I think they all lost a lot of what made them their own persons in the past two years. More than they lost in all of 10 years. The detriment to their personalities was exponential. But it's the timing of it all, like I've said enlistment would've been a perfect excuse.

I know we're all beating a dead horse here, but another thing about burning out, it's about the way their schedules have been managed since 2020. It was inactivity all through 2020 until July?? and then they worked nonstop for four months or so until the end of the year. I remember it was Jungkook, I think, who said dynamite promo was really hard. This year too, a long break, inactivity, then 4 days of recording music shows nonstop. Of course this is the company's fault, they manage their schedules, but you see where I'm going? Burn out can be avoided. Why not film two music shows per week, or even just one. Does it really need to be four days of not sleeping?

Hoseok's album promo, maybe that was his choice. Maybe he wanted to do little for it. Maybe he was also thinking about the burn out and not wanting to do 938384 activities in two weeks, which it's a great decision. Perhaps he'll do promo for a bit with Crush now and he'll keep being active this way, little by little.

Namjoon said his album is almost ready but it still doesn't have a release date, and it's companies who choose release dates, like why is there no plan that's basically it. It's okay if JK or Jimin take more time because they've never done an album before.

There's nothing wrong with saying it's boring, it's not an insult. Probably army's biggest flaw is taking everything so personal and getting defensive about anything. I'll survive, they'll survive.

And that's all! I'd rate it a 6.5/10 because it's definitely the weakest of all the sequels but still had amazing animation and some good plot points. It's just really hard to look over the bad stuff enough to rate it any higher.

I have a theory about what I think (hope) may be happening between Villaneve this season. But this theory was formed by drawing on information I know from the books and since I don’t want to be all spoilery I just have to keep this information to myself and scream about it in my head lmao

(An anon asked me to include my theory in a cut, so if you wish to know the inner ramblings of my warped brain, keep reading!)

First off, it’s important to note that book Villanelle and TV show Villanelle are two very different characters. Book Villanelle is a straight up dick. Not in a “haha, she’s so cute” way like the Villanelle we have come to know and love from the TV show. Book Villanelle is extremely callous and frankly, really easy to not like. 

In the book, Villanelle and Eve get together. Villanelle (being the dick that she is) cheats on Eve with some rando girl that is essentially a fuck buddy from her past. Eve confronts Villanelle about this, Villanelle is very unapologetic and basically just expects Eve to get over it because...well, Villanelle is Villanelle and Eve knows this, so V can’t understand why she is so surprised. 

Since we have already established that TV show Villanelle is quite different from book Villanelle, I don’t believe this will be exactly what happens, but I do believe that we may get a variation of this scenario. 

Here goes the theory:

After the bridge, Eve and Villanelle end up getting together. Whether or not we’ll get to see how any of that comes to be, I don’t know, but I do believe they could have finally, FINALLY given in to their feelings for one another.

I think that Villanelle ends up taking sanctuary in a church to stay hidden from the Twelve, with Eve being the only one who knows she is there. Now here comes the bulk of the theory...

Several promo pictures from the church have been released, but two of them are of particular interest. The one where we see Villanelle about to engage in a kiss with another woman, and the one where Eve appears to have a bag of groceries in her arms at said church. 

I think it is quite possible that Eve witnesses the kiss and this is what causes the coldness that we see between them in the fish tank scene.

While I don’t believe our Villanelle is callous enough to straight up cheat on Eve, she is still the Villanelle who is very much used to acting on impulse and giving into her urges without a second thought. I also think that it’s very unlikely that Villanelle has any sort of firm grasp on monogamy or what an actual relationship entails. So while Villanelle is very much in love with Eve, I don’t think she would understand why that kind of behavior would no longer be acceptable given their new dynamic. 

So Eve witnesses the kiss, the wedge between them is born, and now Villanelle is forced into a situation where she needs to prove to Eve that she can change. I was so confused by their fish tank dialogue at first, because Eve had made it abundantly clear that she accepts Villanelle as she is. We witnessed this acceptance while they were on the dance floor and again while they were on the bridge. So what could have happened that would suddenly make Villanelle feel like she needs to prove to Eve that she has changed? I think a scenario like this would answer that question.

I think it could also play into the scene between them in the therapist’s office. Eve is talking about the scorpion and the frog and Villanelle light-heartedly says, “They hook up?”, which may in reality be Villanelle speak for “get back together”. Eve looks annoyed and says, “They both die, because a scorpion cannot change it’s nature.” Which may be her way of saying that Villanelle will never change. Villanelle shoots back that maybe Eve is the scorpion, which could be Villanelle implying that Eve is still scared and trying to run away. 

So when we see Villanelle drop to her knees and tell Eve that she is showing her that she has changed, I think we will be bearing witness to a woman essentially begging for forgiveness. A woman who is desperate to not let the person she has wanted for so long slip through her fingers. And Eve is so emotionally charged due to everything that has occurred, hence the slap heard round the world. But I don’t even see the slap as a bad thing, because why would Eve show that much passion if she no longer cares about Villanelle?

That’s where the fun would will really begin.

I could be completely bonkers and nothing of the sort will occur. But we know that Villanelle is at the church and that Eve ends up making an appearance there at some point, so I think this could possibly be how the situation plays out. 

I have another theory on how the show could possibly end, but given that this is already a novel I will end it here! If you made it this far and have any thoughts to share, send them my way!

BnHA Chapter 307: The One With Shindou

Previously on BnHA: Endeavor and Hawks (and Jeanist too, although he didn’t really do anything, but BY GOD, WHAT IS UP WITH HIS NECK) held a press conference and were all, “everything you’ve heard is true, so we would just like to say, from the bottom of our hearts... our bad.” U.A. opened its doors to the public as an evacuation shelter. Deku and All Might told basically EVERYBODY about OFA, which is absolutely wild, and yet somehow we hardly paid any attention to this at all. Mostly because the chapter ended with Deku being all “I WALK A LONELY ROAD, THE ONLY ONE THAT I HAVE EVER KNOWN” and peacing out of U.A. to embark on a solo journey of angst. So this is either gonna be the best or the worst thing that ever happened to this series, so TIME TO FIND OUT WHICH IT IS.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “so who do you guys want to see next? Deku? Bakugou?? Well how about SHINDOU?” Shindou is all “hi :) I’m Shindou :) :) remember me :) :) :)?” Horikoshi is all “I’m so sorry for depriving you guys of Shindou for so fucking long, how about an ENTIRE CHAPTER ALL OF HIM” and then he REALLY FUCKING DOES IT because, I don’t know?? Did we make him mad?? Am I being punished for something I did in a past life?? It really is, honest to god, seventeen whole goddamn pages of Shindou, punctuated by a few pages of Muscular, and topped off with one (1) whole appearance by Deku at THE VERY END. And we don’t even get to see his face. I am beside myself lmao I’m sorry you guys, you can skip this recap if you want. Or just skip straight to the end, because movie 3 promo.

life is strange true colours review

the non spoilery part: i LOVED this game, my personal fave game this year and the first franchise entry since the original that has really resonated with or moved me.

it's a life is strange game through and through, so if you don't like slice of life episodes or bonding with NPCs, it's not gonna be for you. but if you like the franchise, or even if you liked the first game but haven't been interested in/liked the other two instalments, i recommend giving this one a chance. i think it got closer to figuring out the formula while still doing something new and interesting.

holy shit i love alex? bisexual chad... my darling... i'm gonna be real, a lot of the trailers and promo for this game made me worried she'd be kind of a dull wallflower Soft Girl character, but she's not! she's so funny, and even parts of her characterization i initially thought were maybe a bit of a stretch ended up making sense as i learned more about her. she stole the show. i straight up forgot how much loving the protag helps enjoyment of these kinds of games lmao ... finally a reason to click on everything in the room: to hear what alex will say about it.

i thought her backstory exploration in ep 5 especially was wonderful and emotive and great. broke my heart and explained so much about her :( baby girl

plot/choices

i loved the mystery. i don't think it was quite as Mysterious as the mystery in lis1, but that was okay, i was still invested in solving it. i also got invested enough in the NPCs around the town to make all the exploration bits really fun. i loved eavesdropping on the sagas of the random NPCs like bald man and ice cream couple... just fun little touches and narratives to follow that i enjoyed.

i really appreciated this script not being afraid to shy away from some messier emotions, even if in some cases i wish we spent more time on them. for example: alex feeling a bit jealous of the other people in town that got to know gabe better than her/spend more time with him than she did. or charlotte hating ethan!!! my jaw dropped, i thought that was so good, what a messy but realistic response.

I'm not entirely sure what all the ramifications of different choices are at this point, fresh off my first play. i ended up getting only part of the council to stand with me (eleanor & duckie) while losing pike and charlotte.

i do wish we saw a bit more fallout or exploration of what taking away emotion DOES. i took charlotte's anger, and obviously it meant she didn't stand up for me in the council meeting, but where does she go from there? does she like... ever return to feeling emotions lmao... I also think we probably should've had the opportunity to do that another time, instead of just 2 isolated events -- I think Diane would've been a good candidate.

the romance

i romanced steph, ofc, but i was surprised during the game how drawn i was to ryan too -- i really liked that Drama of him being the one who cut Gabe free, as well as later the drama of him being Jed's son. UNTIL HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME... that made me mad lmfao, i have to learn what to do to make him believe me before i play a Ryan route bc i'll kill him lmfao.

the steph/alex romance was sweet... it didn't really, like, Consume Me as a ship, but by the end of the game I was still "aww"ing at their moments in the flashforward. steph was more rounded and flawed than i thought she might be, which i really appreciated! i was worried they'd just make her perfect idealized gf, but she has a bit of a temper and is kind of tempestuous and stuff... liked it. loved her standing up for alex so fiercely and immediately at the council meeting <3 and my main reservation about her in ep 4 was that i wanted alex to stay in haven, so when she offered to stay i was thrilled LOL

one semi-complaint i had was that something i loved so much about lis1 was how max and chloe's relationship was central to the entire game and story, it wasn't some extra thing on the side, it WAS the game... whereas here, the romance routes, especially steph's, felt like sidequests. I wish they'd found a way to incorporate those relationships a bit more into the main goings-on. I also wanted to spend more time with either romance option to feel like I knew them better -- splitting the time between Steph and Ryan means that I came away feeling like I didn't get quite as much of either of them as I would've liked, vs spending almost the entire game with Chloe lol.

however, this ended up not really bothering me too much because I DID really like the core mystery and themes, the exploration of grief and Emotion, etc.

other characters

considering everyone knew going into the game that gabe was going to die, i was impressed with how they did it, and how they managed to get me attached to gabe in a mere single episode. it's a tall order to introduce a character designed to die, who your audience KNOWS is going to die, and still make them work.

i thought this supporting cast was ... maybe the strongest in the franchise? or at least, they created scenarios where i felt invested in multiple people in the town, and was genuinely trying to build decent relationships with most of them. duckie cracked me tf up, i liked eleanor and riley, even diane and jeb were good for their roles. (fuck pike. i signed ur stupid thing and left your emotions alone and you still won't do shit? ACAB!!!) the choice to stay in haven or leave was a little harder than i expected honestly, considering how quickly i let arcadia bay burn to the ground lmfao.

gameplay/etc

also i know the whole internet has been dunking on "empathy" as a super power since the game was announced, and i get that it sounds corny and looks corny in the trailers, but i thought how they did it was really cool. i wish they'd branded it "Mindreading" more than empathy tbh because a lot of the cooler elements of it are more along those lines... using her power to manipulate people, potentially taking people's emotions away and what that does to them... very interesting imo!

i really liked the memory feature!!! cool way to give us character exposition and inform the story while encouraging exploration. finally a collectible that like, expands the story, instead of chloe drawing butts on the wall and sean taking 10 years to draw something.

it's definitely the most evolved-feeling LIS game, which it should be, given it's the newest. graphics looked really nice, loved getting to see the characters actually emote, even if there are still some scenes that were a lil comically blank-faced -- usually NPCs. i actually noticed this with Jed the most, which in retrospect maybe was somewhat intentional?

i had a number of visual glitches, nothing major but a little silly, like T-posing Alex, npcs t-posing in the windows, etc. i'm sure they'll get patched out soon.

anyway... i rly liked this game, i'm excited for the steph dlc and finally feel like i have reason to be optimistic about future LIS instalments. hooray!

Harry will be front and center in the Grammys lineup-- he’s opening the show! Past opening acts have sometimes done medley type things, other times just played songs, so it doesn’t tell us anything about what to expect from his performance (including whether it will be live or prerecorded but either way it’s done in LA this week), just when we can expect it, but it is excellent news for fans who don’t actually want to watch the whole Grammys. Some of the awards categories Harry has noms in will likely be announced before the broadcast portion of the show in an earlier presentation that will be streamed, for people who DO want to watch the Grammys and not only that also want to watch EXTRA Grammys with their Grammys. James Corden says he’s seen what Harry will be wearing (maybe cause he prerecorded his segment) and to the joking suggestion that it might be a “fun little sailor outfit with a big lollipop” says “one of those is right.” Is there any truth to it, we will see, but sure! Either a nautical theme or a ridiculously phallic accessory seems totally plausible, bring it on Harold!

A fan posted video of him surprising them on a zoom call (fan: “oh my god”, Harry- “oh there’s me!”)- apparently something that happened thanks to a friend’s dad who is working the Grammys show-- and a TPWK choreographer said that Harry made up a little step that was included himself.

The final installment of Zayn’s comic book told in panels set to each of the songs of Nobody is Listening posted today-- pursuer and pursued come face to face and the two Zayns call a truce. “Don’t you see,” says the pursued, “there can’t be a winner between us. Ever. And you know the truth too, you can’t deny that we are two halves…” “….Of the same whole,” answers his dark side as they shake hands and become one. The final panel shows the original Zayn standing tall, having accepted his dark counterpart (“the shadow in your mind”) into himself, and holding both the light and the dark swords. (Fans--  “that was good but they should have kissed”, lmao fandom! Nothing if not consistent.)

Niall showed off a promo package from Bruno Mars for his new fashion collection but more importantly-- Guinness is teasing something involving him for St Patrick’s Day! The promo says ‘celebrate at home with Niall Horan’ and seems to be for some kind of streamed content…. INTERESTING! More info to follow? One hopes?

Eleanor posted a throwback picture of her and Louis which is almost like getting a new picture of Louis except NOT because it’s OLD. It looks like it might be from the summer 2019 trip when they went to Portofino and Ibiza to get papped in places that paid them for the publicity.
