controversial opinion time

as i play through the game yet again, i doubt the "love story" between Noctis and Luna even more (and i know it was rushed and thrown together due to the complications of the game's release, so for the sake of these observations i'm leaving FFXV's meta out of it and focusing solely on the in-game lore).

Lunafreya has been a prisoner of Niflheim for most of her life. even if she had not been kept in captivity, she is still a public figure due to her role as the Oracle, and has never gotten to live a normal life or experience regular human relationships (unlike Noctis, who did get to experience these things growing up in Insomnia, however limited).

the memories Luna has of Noctis are so old. they're from when they were kids, and Noctis is four years younger than her. i feel like those memories (and the remaining correspondence with Noctis via the notebook) are important to Luna because that's all she has.

when your life is shit, and your future is shit, and you're constantly surrounded by people who treat you like shit, of course your mind is going to want to keep going back so it can cling to one of the few healthy connections you had.

but, i don't see how any of this would lead to "true love", like the story wants us to believe.

Umbra's messages aside, Noctis and Luna, as adults, don't know each other. they've never actually interacted as mature people, just as young children. the views they have of each other are based on those childhood memories, and on wishful thinking. they both have a lot on their shoulders, and are both destined for fates they don't want...neither of them have any choice in the matter. the illusion of an ideal wedding that would fix everything and bring peace to the world is just that--an illusion.

i see Luna's love for Noctis as her escape from her miserable life. and i see Noctis' love for Luna as an escape from suffering like his dad. i don't think either of them is in love with the other one...they're in love with the idea of the other one. and with the possibility of a happier future, which they both already know is impossible but choose to keep believing, because it's all they can do.

i think Noctis has great chemistry with Prompto. and i think Luna had great chemistry with Nyx...both people who they met as adults (well, Noct & Prompto really started hanging out as teenagers, but i digress), and whose presence impacted them in present day, rather than through hazy memories of happier times.

i dunno, this game is eight years old now, and this issue has been picked apart a hundred times already, but it becomes more and more glaringly obvious to me each time i play. contrary to popular belief in the fandom, i don't think Luna herself is a useless or empty character (she deserved waaay more screen time and her friggin DLC though), but i do think trying to make her a love interest for Noctis rather than a guide/mentor/maternal figure/etc. was a bad move. and especially in a game where most of the focus is on brotherhood/platonic bonds, it really didn't need a love story to begin with, i don't think.

i'd even argue that Noct & Luna's relationship would've been more impactful had it been written as platonic, because at least then it would've been believable...missing a childhood friend who was removed from your life in a traumatic way and wanting to help them is already a very powerful motivation to have; turning it into a longstanding crush on someone you haven't actually seen since you were a kid, that's...pushing it. and in my opinion, it does nothing but detract from the connection.

what  made  you  pick  up  the  current  muse(s)  you  have?   i  first  played  ffxv  back  in  the  fall  of  2017  and  fell  head  over  heels  in  love  with  the  game.  to  this  day  i  don’t  think  there’s  ever  been  a  cast  of  characters  that’s  had  such  a  lasting  impact  on  me  as  the  boys  have,  and  at  this  point  ever  will.  i  actually  first  started  off  writing  prompto,  sometime  in  early  2018  and  shortly  thereafter  kind  of  fizzled  out  of  that  because  i  was  new  and  super  shy  and  didn’t  really  know  anyone  in  the  community.  i  was  around  18/19  then  and  actually  took  a  break  from  tumblr  for  a  little  while,  but  always  kept  in  touch  with  the  xv  community  on  twitter/instagram  so  the  love  i  had  never  went  away.  fast  forward  to  2020  and  after  replaying  the  game  i  decided  to  pick  up  noctis  who  at  that  point  had  been  my  end  all  comfort  character  for  a  few  years.  he very quickly became my little pincushion and then unintentionally a processing tool i used to process a lot of issues in my own life. i notice  a  lot  of  nuance  in  my  old  notes  and  ramblings  that  100%  reflect  my  struggles  at that  time and its like huh! wow! didnt know it did that. regardless, noctis is the muse i hold most dearly to my heart and someone i will love for the rest of my life. < he 3

is  there  anything  you  don’t  like  to  write?  ive  seen  it  all  brother.  i  can  be  convinced  with  one  skimmed  over  ao3  tag  and  then  some.  regardless,  i  don’t  have  any  hard  no’s  that  aren’t  the  incredibly  obvious,  and  i  think  rp  is  a  great  way  to  develop  and  analyze  your  likes  and  dislikes  in  a  safe  environment.  it’s  okay  to  be  into  something  in  one  thread  and  then  change  your  mind  later,  that’s  something  i  had  to  learn  the  long  way  but  i'm  better  off  for  it!

is  there  anything  you  really  enjoy  writing?  i  really  love  angst.  not  sure  what  happened  developmentally  to  get  here  but  we’re  here.  i  think  that  shows  a  lot  in  my  preferred  range  of  media  i  write  in  (or  just  consume  casually,)  there’s  just  a  certain….  je  ne  sai  quoi  🤌  in  writing  your  character  going  through  the  absolute  extremes  of  the  human  experience.  besides  that,  i  really  go  crazy  with  character  analysis/general  meta.  i  love  to  deep  dive  into  mundane  (or  otherwise)  aspects  of  a  character  and  build  up  traits  to  fully  flesh  out  a  muse.

At some point after the Dawn, Ignis required that all of the Crownsguard and Kingsglaive take formal photographs, for record-keeping and to share with the news media. After their boring, official, standing-at-attention-and-staring-blankly-into-the-camera photos, Prompto convinced them to take a couple candids. There were lots of good shots, but this is one of his favorites -- Gladio telling a complicated story, Iris looking at her brother with a mixture of fondness and exasperation.

Thoughts about Maria from Final Fantasy II

I like Maria from Final Fantasy II (#ad) well enough, but wouldn’t call her a fave or anything.

Right now, I have her 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD fully MLB. Her Ex has been Purpled or upgraded to Ex+ 3/3.

She has her High Armor and it’s been Realized to 0/3. She has her Bloom Stone. She has triple perfect Artifacts and 2 RF Spheres. All of Maria’s Summon Boards and her LD Boards have been completed.

Maria is a support who can heal and battery the party. She has decent enough auras and buffs.

With her LD, Maria afflicts enemies with a trap debuff that damages them while also batterying and healing the party.

Maria’s pretty good but she’s not really meta. Her FR isn’t meta either. Wouldn’t say no to getting her FR from a free draw or something but don’t really feel like chasing after it with tickets or gems. I doubt I’d bother to fully build her even if I get her FR.

As part of the Winter Festival campaign, we get a free multi-draw on both of the An Awkward Pair (Intersecting Wills) banners.

Banner 2′s free pull gave me a gold orb which turned into dupes of Prompto’s LD and Maria’s 15cp.

When I first saw the Prompto LD, I thought for sure that this was my first copy. Was very surprised when I took a closer look at said weapon and noted the red checkmark on it.

This indicated that not only do I already have a copy of this weapon, I’ve also already fully limit broken it.

Welp, when did I get a copy of Prompto’s LD? Can’t remember right now. Also, I find it hard to believe that I spent the 12 Power Stones needed to fully MLB Prompto’s LD when I can’t even remember using him before.

I must have gotten enough dupes of Prompto’s LD to be able to fully MLB my first copy without using a single Power Stone but heck if I can remember more details about this.

Honestly can’t remember using Prompto. At most, I mght have used him in an easy quest or in fights where he’s synergy or something.

I mean, haven’t even bothered to Purple Prompto’s Ex, much less Realize it so there’s no way I’d bother to bring him to any hard content.

Also, just checked and I see that I have yet to equip Prompto’s LD passive. Must have limit broken the copies that I got then promptly forgot about them. LOL.

Was pretty pleased when I saw Prompto’s LD since I thought I’d gotten something new. But now that I’ve found out that all I got from this draw were dupes - meh. Bad pull is bad. Wish I’d gotten Ceodore’s LD instead. LOL.

As aforementioned, not really all that interested in Maria and since I don’t even have any plans of building her, opted not to even bother throwing any tickets on either of the An Awkward Pair (Intersecting Wills) banners.

Each day, we get 1 free single draw on any one of the currently available banners in Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia.

For now, I’ve been using my daily free single draws on either of the An Awkward Pair (Intersecting Wills) banners since I am missing multiple of the featured weapons there.

So each day, I’d do my daily free single draw, alternating between either of the An Awkward Pair (Intersecting Wills) banners.

Wasn’t really expecting to get anything from these free single draws. It’s really rare to get a gold from these pulls. It’s happened before but more often than not, I just get the usual bronze and silver trash.

So one day, was surprised when I actually got a gold orb.

Tried not to get my hopes up since I could just end up with a dupe 15cp or 35cp. But instead what I got was -

My very first copy of Ceodore’s LD. Hell, yes! Totally wasn’t expecting to see this at all.

Ceodore's also powercrept by now since he doesn’t even have his own Force weapon yet but it’s still nice to get his LD, especially since I remember how this eluded me on a different banner.

I can recall getting multiple copies of Ceodore’s Ex on another banner. Was really annoyed when I failed to get his LD or even his BT. At least now I finally have his LD. Maybe next time I’ll be able to get his Burst too.

Conclusion

I love the fact that Gladio turned around first, not because he wants to or that he loves Noct less, but because he has to. He still has a duty to his king, and damn if he won't perform that duty to the end. Someone also has to turn first, and out of the three of them, Gladio knows it'll have to be him so the others have someone to follow. Otherwise none of them would move, or worse, they'd follow Noct against his wishes and against his orders. Gladio will always put himself in the face of getting hurt first, if it means it saves the others from it. He is a Shield to the bitter end.

I also love the fact that Ignis and Prompto both hesitated, then turned around at the same time. I like that you can't discern a difference, and both hesitated for about as long as the other. The love they have for Noct may be different, but their relationship, friendship, and bond with him are equally deep and good. Their pain is the same.

Hmmm…director’s cut on the Truth series? Or All on the Line? ♥️

I’m not sure what constitutes a director’s cut but have some thoughts on the Truth series and All on the Line.

I don’t know if I’ll ever cover it in the series, but what happened was one of Drautos’ Imperial contacts contacted him using an unsecured comm, and Lucian intel picked it up. They weren’t able to determine exactly who it was going to, but that was going to someone in glaive hq. Clarus brought Drautos into the investigation almost immediately, because he trusted the man, something he regrets now. Drautos had to scramble to find a way to deflect suspicion, and he knew that Nyx and Cor were sleeping together, so he figured it was a way to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. He could deflect suspicion and possibly taint Cor at the same time.

I debated killing off Drautos for a long time, but at the last second decided to keep him alive. The council debated for hours once Cor brought them the proof, and Cor hated every second of it. They eventually agreed to suspend the charges against Nyx, but didn’t officially release Nyx from custody. After Cor takes Nyx away, Clarus files forms to the effect that Nyx has been released into Cor’s custody. He knew Cor wasn’t about to leave without Nyx, and he didn’t want another fight over it.

You’ll be happy to know that I’m almost done with the next part!

All on the Line was initially just going to be a short one-shot for my BTHB, but then Drautos showed up and started implying things. So then Nyx and Cor had to talk about it. And I needed to find out what Cor was thinking about everything. And it turned out he was having feelings about Prompto, so now it’s a whole au. It really grew on me, without a lot of planning. Though I do have some thoughts on what’s going to happen now. In fact, I have the next part finished. It’s Prompto’s POV of the events, which is my first time writing him, so hopefully I did him justice.

Prompto Meta/Thoughts:

Some thoughts about Prompto. This is just meta/drabble/headcanon material that I wanted to write down concerning him since I’ll be participating in a Big Bang and would like to use him as the protagonist to the story. He does have some inconsistency to his “origins” and I’d like to put my thoughts in order to make writing him more believable. Some of the HC/ideas I’m using is based on the “Scientific Discoveries'' fic I did for Verstael and inspiration from the “Parting Ways” novella. 

The basis for Prompto’s existence was to be used as an energy source to power MTs. It is not clear that if infecting a baby with the starscourge would have a better result when they are harvested in a core, or if Prompto was given an injection to make the miasma either stronger prior to the extraction process or easier to manage. In any case, he was created to be destroyed in masse. 

Verstael seems to have made several batches of clones in his first/early MT labs and Prompto was likely one of the first generations. Since it was still an unrefined practice, this may explain why Prompto is not viewed as a “perfect” clone to Verstael and why they have different attributes. 

As MTs were being replaced/add to the Niflheim army during war campaigns, the Lucian government recognized that Verstael was the main player responsible and sought to kill him to turn the tide of battle in their favor. 

A Lucian Kingsglaive unit tracked down Verstael’s lab and managed to find the nursery the babies were kept in. Although they realized that the babies were very clearly children, it was not obvious that they were clones. Confused by the sheer amount of children, one of the Kingsglaive decided to take one of the children (Prompto) back to headquarters for examination. 

When they realized that Prompto was just an ordinary child, there was concern as to what to do with him. As he had no ties to anyone of importance and he was in the nursery that had many other babies, they spared him although there was insistence on covering up his origins. Prompto was given to a prominent Lucian family that had just lost a child due to birthing complications. When he was adopted, the military commander (maybe Titus/Cor) mentioned to always have him cover up the barcode saying that it was not a detail that was worth sharing. 

While Prompto’s parents did love Prompto as their own, business within Insomnia’s court kept both of them busy and away from home. As a result, Prompto turned to food as a coping mechanism to offset the loneliness of his parents not being around and he felt isolated not understanding why he had a barcode brand by the other children around him didn’t. He couldn’t speak to his peers since he was always warned that it would cause him further issues if that topic got brought up so he could not speak to anyone about it. This is the beginnings of his self doubt and fear that he had about himself and the need to want friends but being afraid to open up to them.   

One issue that gets overlooked with Prompto’s relationship with Noctis is that it wouldn’t have really happened if Prompto hadn’t saved Pryna. Had he not done this, it is doubtful that Prompto would have mustered up enough nerve to not only speak to someone else but the Prince of Lucis. In essence, Luna led Prompto to Noctis. 

In his quest to be Nocts friend, it led him into getting into shape and taking on a more light hearted personality towards others. This change had Noctis notice Prompto as they continued to see each other in school and strike up an eventual friendship. 

When Prompto inquired about seeking an officer position within the Crownsguard, there is little doubt that someone recognized his name and knew who he was. No doubt he would have been survaled from time to time just to make sure that he wasn’t behaving suspiciously. When it was clear that Prompto wasn’t a threat, he was allowed within the Crownsguard ranks. 

Ardyn would have recognized Prompto as a clone to Verstael. Since he has a vastly different personality than his father Ardyn would have been amused if not intrigued by seeing a functioning clone next to the Prince. Further proof would have been him seeing the barcode - a feature that Verstael used on all of his clones for experimental data. 

Verstael would have been resentful to see what became of Prompto as he thought all of his clones only had one purpose and the Lucians had “corrupted” Prompto into being something that he wasn’t supposed to. That alone would make Verstael want to kill him. 

If Ardyn was saddened at Verstael’s passing, a part of him would have blamed Prompto for his death and taken it out on him during his imprisonment in Zegnautus Keep. 

Some Unknowns:

What traits define a Lucian, Tenebraen, Niflheimian, or Altissian resident? Are there specific traits that are associated with the regions or is it a cultural identity? Is it a physical appearance? Or perhaps way of speaking? How would anyone have known if Prompto was an outsider? 

The question as to when Prompto realized he was a Niflheim resident rather than a Lucian is hard to say. The timing of this event is critical in understanding why Prompto behaves the way he does around Noct and the others. His Brotherhood episode seems to imply he realized it when he was younger - well before he thought about entering the Crownsguard or even met Noct. Who told him? How did he feel being in Lucis knowing this truth? How did he feel about Nilfheim? Did he wonder about his real parents? Did he ever try to look for them to know the truth? 

If Prompto was examined and was deemed to not to be a threat, why was he so insistent with covering up his barcode? The game seemed to hint that he had always known he had been from Niflheim (or suspected it) even before he saw Verstael. 

The tattoo/barcode that he had from a child should have been warped/altered as he grew older. The skin that he had as a baby would have been stretched as he grew so the computer at the old lab being able to ‘recognize’ him after all of those years is suspect. 

Prompto could have some interesting side effects if Verstael made it so he was able to take the starscourge within his body. This can leave a lot to play around with with a Divergence piece especially if Ardyn is added into the mix.  

I don’t think it was ever implied that Aranea had completely destroyed the lab that housed all of the remaining Verstael clones. If that was the case, what would have happened to them given that they were harmless and a fully functioning human being? If Aranea did destroy the lab, what would have been Prompto’s response to seeing innocent beings killed given how sensitive he is? 

A small detail, but Prompto wore glasses when he was young but doesn’t now. Does that mean that he had corrective surgery or wears contacts?
