now if I were to answer this for myself, and this is weird because I haven't made any explicit references to the song, but I almost feel like it would have to be Dynasties and Dystopia. it works for both main characters, it carries that high energy that I think characterizes the start of the story really well (and hopefully will characterize the end when some characters come back into the fray and things get crazy again). I think it would also highlight that even though I'm writing multiple AUs lol I'm committed to representing the characters in ways that still hit at their core and just present them in a different situation.

2. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)

As it turns out, the only thing missing from the British anthology series, Black Mirror, was options. In Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the TV show gets a movie makeover, but with a twist: The film was shot in the style of a “choose your own adventure” novel, and viewers are able to customize their viewing experience through their scene selections. Centered around a young programmer named Stefan (Fionn Whitehead), Bandersnatch follows Stefan’s journey in developing a video game for a famous gaming company, a journey that puts Stefan under a great deal of mental and emotional stress, and results in one of ten main endings. Black Mirror is beloved for its eldritch and tech-focused content, and Bandersnatch keeps that tone alive, using the main storyline to explore themes like free will and mind control, even as the viewers’ choices drive the story forward.

On the Pacific Northwest coastline, a pod of killer whales are peacefully swimming. The pod is tracked down by a group of whalers.

One of the orcas gets trapped and is separated from his family. He is sent to the Northwest Adventure Park.

Months later in Portland, Oregon, Jesse, a 12-year-old runaway who was abandoned by his birth mother, is roaming the streets with his friends, begging for money and stealing. To evade police in pursuit, Jesse breaks into a building that turns out to be the adventure park's orca viewing area.

While doing graffiti on the building walls and its water tank, Jesse comes face to face with the large orca before ultimately getting caught by the police.

Later, his social worker Dwight informs him that foster parents Annie and Glen Greenwood would be happy to take him in. Jesse, who hopes to be reunited with his birth mother, begrudgingly goes to live with the Greenwoods.

Geralt of Rivia - Multiple pieces of media

I first saw him in The Witcher series, then played The Witcher 3, then started reading the books. I am definitely obsessed with this man. And if I write too much on Geralt, I'm libel to make headcanons or maybe even an entire fic on just Geralt's hair or the way his eyes seem to glow under moonlight. See? Obsession. He is also my comfort character. I go to sleep and imagine running in the woods to this man. What the actual fuck?

Walter Marshall - Night Hunter (2018)

Seeing as how I am currently writing fic about this man, I think it goes to show this is a well-crafted yet moldable character and he can do no wrong in my opinion. Unless he dates Rachel, that's wrong in my opinion. She doesn't even have a last name.

Joel Miller - The Last of Us Games, The Last of Us series

Now I would be remiss to not mention Pedro's portrayal of Joel Miller (and that it solidified his status a my cool slutty daddy). But I must talk about how Troy Baker's voice in the game gave me strong Daddy vibes and gave me my second crush on a video game character after Lara Croft when I was a kid.

Ethan Hunt - Mission Impossible films (1996-Present)

If you know me, you know I have seen every Mission Impossible film since the first came out when I was 9. I was, and will most likely always be, obsessed with these movies. I love the heart-stopping action moments, the raw emotions, and I really like when Tom Cruise almost dies in every movie.

Peter Parker - Multiple pieces of media but I will focus on the films

In 2002, I was 15 and liked the older man that was Tobey Maguire (I was a superfan of his and of Peter). I had a Spider-man trapper keeper for goodness sake! In 2012, I was 25 and I was crushing on Andrew Garfield as a contemporary, someone in my age group. In 2017, I was turning 30 and had a crush on what, to me, seemed like a little boy in Tom Holland (he was over 18 but still). Either way, when asked what my favorite superhero is, I always say Spider-Man.

Bernadine Harris - Waiting to Exhale (1995)

I was 8 when this movie came out and my Momma let me watch it with her. Little did I know, my mother was ready to divorce my cheating father. This character spoke to me and continues to speak to me. I still see my Momma when I watch this movie. She was so badass. And so sexy.

Olaf - Frozen films

Fun fact: I used to collect snowman figurines and snow globes. Knowing this, my young niece made me watch the first film. Josh Gad as an inept snowman who loves the idea of summer is so fucking dramatic that I watched this movie on my own plenty of times. I love him so much and I just wanted to cuddle him.

Castiel - Supernatural (2005-2020)

I started watching Supernatural by watching the live airing of Simon Said, the worst episode of the series some would say. But I stuck around. I wanted to see what the kids on LiveJournal were so excited about. Cue season 4 and this son of a bitch just waltzes in with his wings and his coat and his chapped lips that, to this day, have never seen any moisture. And I fell in love. Fun fact: my dad named his dog Castiel.

Frank Reynolds (but specifically as Ongo Goblogian) - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I have artwork in my bedroom over my nightstand of Ongo. This entire episode was gold to me. It was early season 8, I believe. Charlie was doing a Richard Grieco thing, Dennis was trying to get his erotic memoirs made into a Fifty Shades of Grey type thing. Mac was in the duster. Dee was in a smut film. Just golden. But then Frank was this Andy Warhol-esque art collector just doing the most. It was beautiful.

Louise Belcher - Bob's Burgers series and film

Louise, what can I say about this wonderful human that hasn't already been said? Louise is what I wish trauma didn't take from me. Louise likes to slap beautiful people, as do I. She is confused when she likes a boy, and so am I some of the time. And Louise has her comfort clothing item, her hat. I have my froggy robe and my penguin socks. In the latest season that just ended, it was pretty much confirmed that Louise is non-binary, as am I. My fiancee compares me to Louise on a daily basis and I just smile and tell her she's 100% correct because she is. Louise embodies me when I was 9 years old, right before childhood trauma took all of that away and replaced it with an old curmudgeon. I love my sweet Louise and no one can ever tell me that my love is unwarranted.

I would love to tag people to do this, but I know a lot of us are in the same circles LOL. This was too fun!

Dearest Richard, 

The anticipated letter arrives from Jeffries. Having been written on July 9, 1945. Before I open it with you, I need to halt for a moment. Pulling in the details I now know. Imagining how this part of the story may have unfolded. Stepping back in time.

Jeffries had arrived in Boston from Europe on June 31, 1945. He was there for 20 hours and next on to Fort Dix for a six day furlough. Then the finale of this extensive never ending trail to Philadelphia, he was home at last. Writing this ten days later. Whoosh. Just need to breathe in that reality. I am guessing he chatted with you about his hometown a lot. So much so that maybe you could even have envisioned it in your mind’s eye. Finding home often has so much more significance the further we find ourselves from it. 

Here is where Jeffries would have been tip tap, typing this letter at 416 W. Harlan St. Seeing him sitting at a table in this two bedroom, one bath row house. He had spoken to four families by phone and had an idea of what folks wanted to know. 

Again thinking about how this letter, as in your Killed in Action (KIA) letter grandpa received could have been interspersed with plain old every day mail. Ads and bills all vying for space in the mailbox not being aware of the most essential envelope that might be in the mix. Mail can often be simple and common place. Delivered to your doorstep six days a week and then something arrives that asks for that moment to be halted. Freeze framed before going any further. 

This one was opened on the side with a letter opener. The envelope may have been breath blown open more before the two typed stationery pages would have been extracted. I don’t know how many times it would have been read. Trying to absorb what the details meant. Maybe only reading so far before stopping or hesitating. Sharing it with your beloved sister or whom ever else may have been around. Or your dad may have simply read it on his own. Maybe getting his glasses or sitting down in a familiar chair in the living room or at the kitchen table where the light was brighter. I don’t know and I realize I can’t imagine the emotions he felt. Another time where words are insufficient and how anything else present would have seemed inconsequential. The windows being open on a hot July day. The Nicollet traffic rumbling by or a neighbor mowing their lawn next door. The birds chirping in the treetops. Or it may be that nothing else was heard or could be heard. The moment getting stuck in place. That is what I imagine might have occurred on that possibly steamy hot day in July. 

Not quite ready to release this letter to you. Appreciating your ever present patience.

Inspired, imagined, and curated by Harlem Stage Associate Artistic Director/Artist-in-Residence, @carlhancockrux, the Black Arts Movement: Then and Now Conference is a three-day event featuring a keynote address by poet, music critic, and arts administrator A.B. Spellman. The conference includes panels, discussions, essays, and performances, featuring pioneers and visionary artists including Angela Y. Davis, Nona Hendryx, Sonia Sanchez, Henry Threadgill, Toshi Reagon, and more, as well as a closing-night concert co-presented with Park Avenue Armory, curated by Carl Hancock Rux, Tavia Nyong’o, and Vernon Reid, with contributions by Carrie Mae Weems, Stefanie Batten Bland, and Dianne Smith.

Employing roundtables, public dialogues, and screenings, the convening will explore controversial areas of tension between the intellectual, ethical, and commercial imperatives of the Black Arts Movement. While I was searching for some fan-art with Metternich in my collection not so long ago, I suddenly came across these two sketches I’ve not shared on Tumblr before. Even though now I’m aware of some huge mistakes in their appearances (primarily Schwarzenberg’s one: since then I’ve seen a bunch of planchettes depicting Austrian soldiers and officers at the different stages of Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars which made me rethink a lot - especially his hair style), love the general meaning behind it all so far. ❤️

One day I’ll probably make an adequate redraw… However, that doesn’t stop me from posting the “original”!

Besides, they still look pretty cool and cinematic. 🎥✨

The concept itself came to me, when I was exploring Metternich and Schwarzenberg’s lives once again in search for a “common ground” - major milestones in the Napoleonic wars period which brought them closer, until they’ve started working hand in hand in practical terms. The most important one is, for sure, the war of the Fifth Coalition culminating in the battles of Wagram and Znaim.

Won’t go into details on this one: there’re many people out there who are much more familiar with the Austrian campaign of 1809 and it’s origins. I’m still a noob who has a lot - A LOT - to learn about (three volumes of Gill’s “Thunder on the Danube”… *looking respectfully with almost holly fear* 👁👁). However, the circumstance which interests me the most is that the events of the day brought back to the shores of the Danube two Austrian ambassadors - a military man and a professional diplomat. The military man discussed the matters of the Danube principalities and the Ottoman Empire with the Russian court in Saint-Petersburg: they had been waging war against Turks since 1806; and the diplomat… well, let’s say that after his mission the brilliant city of Paris took a special place in his heart~

Briefly speaking, Metternich’s struggles on his journey back, which started in May, were phenomenal since he had to travel during the war time in a state of a living “bargaining chip”, meanwhile Schwarzenberg almost missed Wagram itself because of the long detour he had to take on his way back to the Austrian empire. Still in the first days of July they were both present before emperor Franz (as well as Gentz’s inquisitive gaze and feather) - after that one of them went straight to the front line.

What came next, history says for itself. A series of defeats (Znaim being the fatal blow, since Wagram wasn’t that disastrous at all - it was a worthy showdown, even the French acknowledge this in their memoires), humiliating peace of Schönbrunn and the disgrace that finally overtook the country’s war party (since emperor Franz had never been a big fan of it all). Now the time had come for the pacification of Napoleon. It was also the time for the recently appointed chancellor and Austrian ambassador in Paris to shine. ✨

Despite all odds, it was certainly a new beginning - extraordinary one for Metternich, incredibly difficult and tedious one for Schwarzenberg. Nevertheless, it was for the greater good - for the sake of the Habsburg’s Empire. These pair drawings actually made me think for the first time about how much “fun” it was for the Austrians with their predominantly white uniforms (by the way, the three-coloured combo - white, red and gold - is one of my favourites now, thank you, my dear obsession 🤍❤️💛) to participate in a serious combat, when the heavy artillery fire was unleashed from the both sides. Like, man, at what state were the coats of the soldiers and officers afterwards, I can’t even imagine… ☠️

• being with you makes him so happy, and he loves it so much when you smile! so he does little things to make things more fun while you're stuck in bed.

• it ends up turning into a full on spa day, with you two doing eachothers nails, putting on face masks, and doing eachothers hair!

• he obviously knows you still need your medicine, so he'd get whatever one you normally use and give it to you when you need it :)

Halsey imagines new possibilities for #art, #architecture, and #communityengagement. Combining found, fabricated, and handmade objects, her work maintains a sense of civic urgency and free-flowing imagination, addressing crucial issues confronting Black people, queer populations, and the working class. This exhibition highlights Halsey’s visionary, collaborative ethos, and includes new examples from several bodies of work. Among them are funkmound sculptures, including one with a functioning waterfall; twelve-foot-tall, hand-painted columns; wall-based sculptures composed using synthetic hair; wall-based reliefs on Hydro-Stone, gypsum, and foil supports; and sculptures constructed from stacked, painted boxes that evoke the signs and symbols of neighborhood life, as well as a new type of sculpture that channels the vivid energy of a streetscape...

In a recent major profile of Lauren Halsey by Robin Pogrebin (@rpogrebin) in @NYTimes, Charles Gaines, who taught the artist when she was an undergraduate at the California Institute of the Arts, says, “[Halsey's] not trying to unpack notions of racism, she’s just trying to celebrate Blackness...She’s trying to bring into the realm of art things that are thought to be low culture, things that are victimized by a certain stereotype...”
