Something that makes me believe in destiny is that evening in the summer when I went out for a late run and didn’t feel quite so good because I usually go out much earlier in the day. It was already dark and I ran down this street where I saw that someone had a small functioning lighthouse in their front garden, making me stop and be filled with a sudden hope. Shortly after, a new kind of light in form of a pirate show found its way into my life, introducing me to a lot of things which all feel like home.

I can't vote. Two fully gay casts with a nonbinary actor/character in them. They're just perfect. I love them both and they both deserve it. I'll be happy for whoever wins, but I can't vote.

Gilbert Baker (June 2, 1951 - March 31, 2017) was a gay American artist, designer and activist, best known as the primary creator of the rainbow flag. In 1972 Baker was living in Chicago as an openly gay man, he was taught to sew by a fellow activist, Mary Dunn, using these skills to create banners for gay-rights and anti-war protest marches. It was also during this time that he met and became friends with Harvey Milk, an influential gay leader, who challenged Baker to create a new symbol of pride for the gay community.
The first rainbow flags were produced by a team that included Baker, seamster James McNamara and artist Lynn Segerblom. Segerblom, who was then known as Faerie Argyle Rainbow, reports to have created the original dyeing process for the flags. Thirty volunteers hand-dyed and stitched the first two flags for the parade. These original flags flew at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade celebration on June 25, 1978.
Though many variations have emerged in the decades since, the original design had eight stripes, with a specific meaning assigned to each of the colours: Hot pink for “sex”, red for “life”, orange for “healing”, yellow for “sunlight”, green for “nature”, turquoise for “magic” (though sometimes given as “art”?), indigo for “serenity” and violet for “spirit”.
I’m a little late for pride month, but I got all this done a lot quicker than I expected considering I only started working on it at the beginning of June (though I’ve been planning it on and off for a few years now😅). I did a lot of research and planning for each piece, and there was a lot I wanted to communicate with the project as a whole - it’s been a lot of work, and I challenged myself with a bunch of stuff I’m not familiar with, but I’m really happy with how everything turned out.
Happy pride, everyone, here’s to our community, to all the work that got us here, and to all the progress still to come! 🏳️‍🌈✨🏳️‍⚧️

Tumblr sure does love to repeat the refrain of "the first pride was a riot!!!" and then turn around and belittle queers who still have to fight to stay in the places they love.
Anyway, here's a little story of rural queer resilience. A few years ago, the organizers of a local pride fest & queer community space finally caught the people who'd been attacking their rainbow flag in the night. When asked why they'd done it, the vandals said it's because the pride organizers were "big time queers." In response, the community space started selling t shirts emblazoned with "big time queer" and gave away free little rainbow flags to neighbors who would stand in solidarity via photo campaign. People turned out - the t shirts and mini flags were all distributed in like a week. This happened in a town of 2200 people. The pride fest is still held annually, and the queer community center recently expanded their space and their programming. Sometimes, when we fight, we make it. Our neighbors stand with us against the assholes who try to drive us away.
Love & solidarity from the Big Time Queers of small town Indiana 💕🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
Oh my god, that's amazing! All my love to you and the Big Time Queers of small town Indiana!

Trans Love is Cosmic 🪐✨🌒☀️☄️
Tumblr media
I’ve recently realised that, as vocal as I am about my transness both on and offline, or as many queer OCs as I have, I rarely make outwardly queer art. I think it’s time to change that. I want more unapologetic trans joy on my timeline. I want to celebrate our life, our love, our existence, so may this piece be the first of many! I’d love to portray the many different ways of being trans, different identities, expressions, aesthetics, understandings of the wide spectrum that this encompasses. Feel free to comment below with your own experience (if you’d like) or any suggestions you might have, what would you like to see represented?
I’m incredibly excited about this project, can’t wait to make many more pieces, so everyone can resonate, everyone can feel seen and celebrated 💜✨
Ah, here’s an extra version with trans flag colours 🏳️‍⚧️

🏳️‍⚧️🏴‍☠️ Trans Books To Read If You Love "Our Flag Means Death" 🏴‍☠️🏳️‍⚧️
Can't get enough of Our Flag Means Death? Read some trans pirate books!
Tumblr media
On Mar León de la Rosa's sixteenth birthday, el Diablo comes calling. Mar is a transmasculine nonbinary teen pirate hiding a magical ability to manipulate fire and ice. But their magic isn't enough to reverse a wicked bargain made by their father, and now el Diablo has come to collect his payment: the soul of Mar's father and the entire crew of their ship. When Mar is miraculously rescued by the sole remaining pirate crew in the Caribbean, el Diablo returns to give them a choice: give up their soul to save their father by the harvest moon, or never see him again. The task is impossible - Mar refuses to make a bargain, and there's no way their magic is a match for el Diablo. Then Mar finds the most unlikely allies: Bas, an infuriatingly arrogant and handsome pirate - and the captain's son; and Dami, a gender-fluid demonio whose motives are never quite clear. For the first time in their life, Mar may have the courage to use their magic. It could be their only redemption - or it could mean certain death.
(The audiobook for "The Wicked Bargain" is narrated by Vico Ortiz!)

In a world divided by colonialism and threaded with magic, a desperate orphan turned pirate and a rebellious imperial lady find a connection on the high seas. Aboard the pirate ship Dove, Flora the girl takes on the identity of Florian the man to earn the respect and protection of the crew. For Flora, former starving urchin, the brutal life of a pirate is about survival: don’t trust, don’t stick out, and don’t feel. But on this voyage, Flora is drawn to the Lady Evelyn Hasegawa, who is headed to an arranged marriage she dreads. Flora doesn’t expect to be taken under Evelyn’s wing, and Evelyn doesn’t expect to find such a deep bond with the pirate Florian. Neither expects to fall in love. Soon the unlikely pair set in motion a wild escape that will free a captured mermaid (coveted for her blood) and involve the mysterious Pirate Supreme, an opportunistic witch, double agents, and the all-encompassing Sea herself. Deftly entwining swashbuckling action and quiet magic, Maggie Tokuda-Hall’s inventive debut novel conjures a diverse cast of characters seeking mastery over their fates while searching for answers to big questions about identity, power, and love.

The Lost Boys say that Peter Pan went back to England because of Wendy Darling, but Wendy is just an old life he left behind. Neverland is his real home. So when Peter returns to it after ten years in the real world, he's surprised to find a Neverland that no longer seems to need him. The only person who truly missed Peter is Captain James Hook, who is delighted to have his old rival back. But when a new war ignites between the Lost Boys and Hook's pirates, the ensuing bloodshed becomes all too real - and Peter's rivalry with Hook starts to blur into something far more complicated, sensual, and deadly.

In the Christian Republic, homosexual people are given two choices—a camp to "fix" them, or exile to the distant islands populated by lesbians and gay men. Sixteen-year-old Jason chooses exile and expects a hardscrabble life but instead finds a thriving, supportive community. While exploring his identity as a transgender boy he also discovers adventure: kraken attacks, naval battles, a flying island built by asexual people, and a daring escape involving glow-in-the-dark paint. He also has a desperate crush on Sky, a spirited buccaneer girl, but fear keeps him from expressing his feelings. When Jason and his companions discover the Republicans are planning a war of extermination, they rally the people of the Rainbow Islands to fight back. Shy, bookish Jason will have to find his inner courage or everything and everyone he loves will be lost forever.
Book titles:
The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa
The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall
Peter Darling by Austin Chant
Rainbow Islands by Devin Harnois

Mermay day 5: Muriel!
And yes, little spoiler, in "There are stars at the bottom of the sea", Muriel is TransMasc! 🏳️‍⚧️
He's 25, an accomplished sailor, and of course, he'll sew hi own flag in our story, like the rest of the crew in OFMD! (not this one, obviously, but one which represent his sweet personnality!)
We wanted to post this picture today, because the trans kids are in danger here, in France, right now, and there were a lot of trans rights march and assembllies in a lot of French cities, today.
🏳️‍⚧️ Trans rights are human rights, trans kids are precious. 🏳️‍⚧️
Take care of yourself

Idea for a sawtism/saw autism flag
A flag for autistic people who like the saw franchise, have a special interest in the saw franchise, feel connected to the saw franchise, ect.
The colors are based on personal association with saw. Please note that this isn't a gender flag and is autism exclusive.

(Print Available)
A formline piece that I finished back near the end of June this year, for Indigenous People’s Day and Pride Month. I’m very proud of this one for sure, it resonates a lot with me and contains a lot of very important messages.
The color choices are (a bit obviously) based off of the trans flag, and the butterfly and cocoon are meant to symbolize self-change and transitioning, while the human shapes in the wings and cocoon are meant to symbolize the Indigenous experience while being LGBTQ+, including reconnection with culture and the queer parts of our history and cultures that were removed or lost due to colonization.
So yeah, a lot of heavier themes in this one. This piece definitely means a lot to me.
