Human Things that Confuse Knives Part 2

Made a second one since I had more ideas lol

content warnings: teeth, use bomb in an analogy, mention bruises. this one gets more into the body/anatomy idk what all people are comfy with so just in case

•Knives already thinks dreams are kinda weird, but those surreal ones and the utterly weird ones that just make no sense or seemed so real you wonder if it actually happened? he wants to know what's going on in your brain. Knives will listen to you as you recount your dream, he won't say much or make any facial reactions, but part of him is kinda amazed that your can brain come up with the weirdest, coolest and/or creepiest things ever.

•the concept of having baby teeth and adult teeth weirds Knives out. when Knives learns that you do lose your teeth as a kid he's staring at you like you've just grown a second head. don't tell him that you have wisdom teeth that usually need to be taken out via surgery as a teenager. (Vash is kinda grossed out by it. found out when a kid he was playing with ran up to him and was like 'look! my tooth fell out!:D' he panicked, thinking they got hurt, but it's replaced with horror, disbelief, slight disgust and concern when he finds out every human looses a set of teeth. he hates it a little. has no idea what to do when a kid tells him that a tooth fell out. help him)

•also. imagine Knives surprise when he learns about the appendix. you had been talking with a friend when you mentioned appendicitis and that you had to have surgery. it peaked his interest and when you're done talking, Knives asks about it. he stares at you in uncertainty and disbelief the further you explain. what do you mean there's a small pouch in your stomach that serves little to no function that can essentially become a bomb? Knives doesn't actually believe you until he looks it up. he wonders how humans have survived with bodies like that.

•same wonder when it comes to you having to take vitamins and other supplements because sometimes a body won't produce enough of something or too much.

•the fact the humans shed/lose hair. Knives knows that, but it kinda grosses him out a bit. he hates seeing your hair strands, makes you clean them up. (I hc that the twins just have little to no body hair and they don't actually lose hair strands.)

•double jointed people also weirds Knives out. what do you mean you can twist or bend a joint further than normal? it doesn't exactly creep or gross him out, but he doesn't like it. he'll never admit that, but he won't look/talk to you for a bit after you show off that flexibility.

•Knives is fascinated by the way your skin can change colors. (don't mention that he can turn a lovely shade of red, he gets all huffy.) but, anyways, he loves examining your face, watching as your face gets darker with certain things he does. (also likes seeing your facial expressions. humans are so expressive..) he also likes seeing your bruises and watching as the bruise changes colors over time as it heals. you joked one day that you could give him a bruise of his own that he can watch. he didn't like the joke (he prefers to give you (consensual) bruises.)

•now let's get into reverse Isekai for a bit.

•Knives does not fucking understand social media lmao. why the hell do you have to tell people you've never met what you did or thought that day and why are so many people interested? why do people do stupid things for views??

•he hates online discourse and always tunes you out when you try to talk about something that happened online. he doesn't care and thinks it's stupid.

•do NOT let him find out about stan culture or chronically online people. he's gonna lose any faith he had in humanity again. I wouldn't worry about that too much though. he has zero online presence, never uses social media outside of YouTube and even then he only uses it to watch documentaries or how to videos.

•memes confuse him a lot, especially how fast they come and go. you don't even know how to explain them to him. "why is this picture of a man just standing so funny?" "it just is? I don't know either." how do you even explain memes and internet culture to someone who's never been on the internet lol

•Knives thinks you're really weird if you've got a skewed sense of humor where something dramatically falling over makes you laugh(thinking of that waffle video.) he watches those types of videos with a straight face and when the video ends he just stares at you, wondering if you seriously think that's funny.

•he hates those youtube poop and deepfried videos. not only does he find them stupid and doesn't understand them, but they just bother his ears.

•bonus: Vash thinks the circadian rythym is pretty neat and that some people just know when to wake up. it took Vash a while to develop one, or at least, something like that since he doesn't technically need sleep. it'll never quite be the same though since he doesn't exactly get tired like humans do. it took decades for that type of tiredness to become present, but even still, he doesn't need it to survive.

I see you very much as an expert on all things Rohirrim, so I bring to you this question, hoping I can pick your brain for info to use in my own fics (full disclosure). 😅

It seems to be a popular fanon that the Rohirrim/Riders of Rohan have tattoos, and that body art is a part of their culture. Do you have any thoughts or personal HCs about this that you're willing to share?

Oh my goodness!!! I am so very honored to be thought of as a person who is knowledgeable about my beloved Rohirrim, and I hope very much that I can live up to that reputation. Thank you!!!

I’m not aware of any real textual evidence for body art among the Rohirrim, and the historical record in the medieval Anglo Saxon and Norse societies that Tolkien used as a reference for them seems to be disputed. But I absolutely understand and agree with the conventional wisdom that tattoos are a thing in Rohan. It just fits well with a warrior culture that has a wilder, dare-I-say more pagan aesthetic as compared to the smooth solemnity of Gondor or the formal elegance of the elves. And since they’re a culture that doesn’t document things in written words, pictorial representations such as tattoos and body art would be one way to fill that gap (along with their songs and oral traditions).

In my mind, tattoos in Rohan are common but basic—they’ve really only got the technology for the “stick and poke” method so the designs are kept simple because anything too elaborate is difficult to pull off well. They’re mostly in black line (using soot) but some have color using powder made from grinding up certain dried roots and plants.

Each village/community has its own distinctive tattoo motif that is worn by all of that community’s members. So you can tell just by looking at someone whether they’re from Upbourn (a fish because it’s a river town) or Dunharrow (mountain peaks since they’re in the White Mountains) or Everholt (a boar in honor of the wild boar that live in this part of the Firien Wood), etc. And soldiers also tend to share tattoo designs specific to their éored—getting your éored’s mark is a formal rite of passage for the younger members when they first get assigned to their company. These shared tattoo designs are important both for group cohesion and as a means of identifying fallen Rohirrim even if the deceased isn’t known to whoever finds the body.

Beyond these ritualized and practical functions, I do also like to think that there are some purely decorative tattoos among them as a means of personal expression and/or to help cover small scars that so many Rohirrim have from battle, riding accidents or other mishaps. Obviously horse-based designs would be very popular, as well as other flora and fauna of Rohan. But they’re a very sentimental people and so I think little emotional signifiers would also be very common (again, especially because they generally don’t have a means to pay tribute to beloved people/things in written form, this sort of symbol would serve the purpose of making some kind of record of those tributes).

In terms of specific people in my head canon: Éomer has a little simbelmynë blossom for each of the major figures in his life that he’s lost (forearm). Háma had a sun to remind him of his wife, who brought warmth and light to his life (shoulder). Théodred had stars in the shape of a particular constellation that is visible every year on his mother’s birthday (chest). Éowyn has a representation of her father’s sword (left wrist) and gets a quill (right wrist) to represent Faramir after they get married. (Faramir got a little running horse in her honor on his first trip to Rohan. He was glad he did it, but he never wants to sit through that again.)

Merry brought tattooing back to the Shire when he showed up with a tobacco pipe on his bicep (both for its association with Buckland and in tribute to Théoden, whose last words to Merry were about smoking together someday when peace was restored). Unsurprisingly, tattoos did not catch on with the other hobbits, but Merry remains very proud of it.

Depending on his mood he might be more open about PDA some days ( Special occasions , peace before / after war, etc ), but in general he likes to keep it simple in front of others and let himself go in private

Unless you already know or start training self defense he won't let you go on missions , he would try to convince April to persuade you to stay with her while they do their stuff

Tries to take you beautiful or aesthetic places , but more often than not you two will be interrupted , so to avoid that he started to give you more gifts and spend more quality time inside a safe place

He loves it when you compliment his appearance , but if you compliment his skills and wisdom ? OOF , this man would be all giggly and blushing like a school boy

Denial and silent jealousy , he would not communicate his thoughts and would try himself to stop thinking that way , but it only gets worse . Fortunately , when he's on the edge of exploiting he would try his best to talk with you about it

Even when he's on the foot clan he would still choosing you

He would probably kidnap you and force you marry him and keep obedience and loyalty towards him ( And if he was feeling threatened by certain someone close to you , he wouldn't doubt twice on hurting them bad enough to make them know who you belong to )

After it's all over he would apologize for his actions and spend more time with you than before

Although his jealousy might be transform into more straight to point , being a little sharp with his words but nothing extreme

Ok so first to talk about this version I say that if you decide to keep being his friend you have to teach him a lot of stuff ( Maybe I'll add a HC )

Maybe you're a close friend of the turtles , maybe you're Leonardo's partner / ex

The thing is that you were just or more patient with him than his counterpart , making him reflex about his existence , morals , actions , everything

So he decides to stay on Earth and try to be like the other turtles , to give his " brothers " a better life far from their creator

So , after a long time of learning , communicating and spending time with you , he decides to date you so he can be finally your boyfriend ( You told him that mate is weirdly used to call a partner here , he asked why , but you avoided the question flawlessly lol )

That being said , he would be slow with PDA but once he learns all the types of affection , he would SHAMELESSLY french kiss you , talk about how good you were last night , hug you on the air , etc

Even he's more civilized than before , he would steal without care things that he knows you like or need ( Be careful with saying " Oh I wish I had money to buy x thing" he won't think twice on breaking the law if it means he'll get it for you )

Cuddling with him is cool until you wake up first but he don't , and he won't let go even in his sleep ( Might even pull you much closer like if he's trying to absorve you with his body )

Yes , he did learn the sharing importance , but with you ? Hell nah , he growls to anyone who is way too much confident with you , including his brothers , but specially humans and the og turtles ( Leonardo having it worse , he would probably get hurt more than once just for talking with you inconveniently alone )

If you talk with him about his jealousy he would try his best to not push you away , but don't expect it to happen soon or fade away completely

Your loyal servant at lifting heavy weights , helping you get something out of your reach , etc , but if you don't know how to fight or be just as strong as him , good luck on trying to go on a mission / train or put yourself at any danger

the first time he hit someone other than osborne over the head with his guitar, he learned to not actually aim for the head cause its deadly/paralyzing. And instead aims for the torso or legs with MUCH less strength

“Are you sure you wish to do this, Little Necromancer?”

Beca looked up at Chloe's dad and flapped her hands under her arm pits in an attempt to dry the copious moisture gathering as they waited for Cahira to let them know the rest of the vampires had arrived. At least. The ones brave enough to accept Beca's invitation to speak.

“What? Face a few hundred vampires that would probably like nothing more than to burn me at the stake?”

He gave a rumble of a grunt and stroked his braided beard thoughtfully.  She could tell he wasn't as afraid of her anymore which was a plus. Probably. Maybe.

“Yes.”

Beca shrugged and finally settled for a meandering anxious pace around the room. She really wished Chloe and Aubrey were there with her now but they had gone to check on defenses. She was pretty sure that was an intentional move to give her time alone with Chloe's parents. At least for the moment. 

How could she face hundreds of vampires if she couldn't handle facing just this one? Granted it might be easier if she hadn’t just banged his daughter like a Salvation Army drum.

Okay who was she kidding? She was definitely the drum. This time. Next time she had serious plans to be the one doing the banging. Lots and lots of banging.

Heat rose to her cheeks at Einar's intent gaze and she suddenly wondered if mind reading was a vampiric gift. If so she was screwed. 

“I'm sure.”

“May I ask why, Little Necromancer?”

She had to smile at that. There could be worse nicknames.

“Because, Big Guy, I took something from them and I should explain myself.”

“You mean apologize.”

Beca thought about that. There was expectation in his tone and nearly imperceptible shift of his attention that was meant to intimidate. The weight of his age and power flexed around her, making her bones ache. It was impressive and would have worked maybe a month ago. 

But she had seen some shit since then. She had done some shit since then. And she knew who she was now. Love hummed through her bond and she stopped her pacing and faced him directly, unafraid. She didn't bother to call up her power to push back, it wasn't necessary. Her conviction that she had done the right thing was enough to straighten her spine.

“I did what I did to save Aubrey. I'm not going to apologize for that. If they don't like it, tough tits. All I can do is explain how dire it was and hope they'll respect that.”

“Respect or fear?”

It was a valid question and she gave herself a moment to honestly answer without her usual sarcasm.

“If I wanted them to fear me I wouldn't bother to explain why I had to do what I did. I didn't want to hurt anyone but to protect or save Aubrey and Chloe I will be ruthless if I have to.”

Einar's power receded in a slow pull and she felt her spine release tension it had been holding. The door opened and Cahira stepped in with a brow raised in question.

“Husband?”

“There is no lie in her words. The Necromancer speaks truly. She meant only to save the Queen.”

“And?”

Beca looked back and forth between them in confusion. She wasn't entirely certain what was happening but Einar let out a great sigh and slumped his shoulders in resignation. 

“I'm sorry I doubted you, Wife, moon of my heart, she who is beauty, grace and wisdom. I am a turd.”

Cahira's lips curled into a satisfied grin and she held out an impatient hand until Einar fished a bronze coin out of his pocket and slapped it into her hand.

“Thank you, Husband.” Cahira tugged gently on Einar's beard until he bowed his tall frame to meet her lips in a soft kiss. She released him and faced Beca. “Do close your mouth dear, they'll think you're damaged.”

Beca's mouth snapped closed with a click and she blinked several times trying to process what she had witnessed.

“Okay wait. What's happening right now?”

“Oh this?” She held up the coin and laughed. “Einar and I have been winning this back from each other for a thousand years. A game of ours.”

“And you make him say that every time??”

“You should hear what I have to say when he wins.”

Her laugh was musical and light and Beca was pretty sure Chloe’s dad had just fallen in love with her all over again if his expression was any indication. She could see where Chloe got it from. 

These were not the vampires she understood. These were real people that loved and laughed. They weren't monsters. And neither were any of the people she needed to address. They were just people. Powerful people with the abilty to do alarming and fucked up things. But still capable of being so much more than the things that go bump in the night.

“Wow. Okay. So are the vamps all here?”

“They are. Are you ready to address them?”

“I guess. I mean. Yeah. Yes. Yes I'm ready.”

“Come, Beca. Einar and I will be by your side. Chloe and the Queen will be back shortly. Unless you would prefer to wait?”

She wanted to wait. If only for the support she knew she would have. Beca took a deep breath and shook her head. No. She needed to do this herself. Besides who was going to give her lip with the Big Guy looming over her shoulder?

“Let's do this.”

Something glittered in Cahira's eyes. Something like…pride? Beca wasn't sure but she felt like she was doing the right thing. Einar opened the door in the far wall and gestured for her to go first. If she expected a hallway or a buffer between herself and the other vampires she was disappointed. 

Beca found herself on a raised platform with more vampires than she had expected staring up at her. Some with curiosity,  some with hostility, most with barely concealed fear.

“Oh boy.”

She looked back at Chloe's parents nervously then back to the waiting mass. She brought one hand up in a tentative wave and seriously reconsidered her choices the last five minutes.

“Hey. So, I'm Beca.”

There was nothing. Absolute dead silence. They stared at her and she stared at them. Neither one was sure who was the predator and who was the prey. She sighed heavily and the vampires closest to the platform eased back. 

“Okay this…this isn't going to work.” She walked to the edge of the platform and dropped the few feet to be on their level. “Look, guys, you don't have to be afraid of me. I don't want to hurt anyone here.”

Some skittered back. A few held their ground. One pushed forward with mistrust blazing in her almond shaped eyes. Beca held her ground and waited for the unmistakable swirl of power to crest over her as Einar's had done but it never came. Or rather, it wasn't as expected. 

Power lapped up at her, batting gently like a gentle wave. The trailing edge of it tried to stick and cling to her, trying to find a way to overwhelm and influence her but it was too weak and crumbled away like sand with just the slightest push back from her.

Beca frowned when the woman backed up several paces in fear. A few of the nearest vampires that had stood their ground shifted away. She was getting nowhere and fast.

“I don't want to hurt you.”

Repeating it wasn’t likely to change their minds and she realized it. 

“You have already done so, Necromancer.”

She looked for the voice in the crowd that had spoken. Bodies parted to allow a vampire in a heavy cloak to limp forward in an awkward shuffle. He was ancient. Maybe even older than Aubrey but there was something wrong with him.

Her head tipped to the side and she reached up to push the hood of the cloak down. Wisps of brittle white hair fell from an already nearly bald pate. Pale waxy skin stretched translucently over high planed cheekbones and a strong jaw. If she had thought the vampires were scared of her, they were absolutely terrified of this one.

Whispers of verskret hissed through the crowd as they backed even further away. She knew that word. Cursed. 

“Who are you?”

“You may call me Athan. Do you deny what you have done, Necromancer?”

Beca was fascinated by the power she could feel seeping from him without even conscious effort. But none of it was directed at her. 

“No. I did that. I took from all of you and I would do it again if I had to. Not because I wanted to hurt anyone but because the need was seriously fucking desperate.”

“And what could you have so desperately needed with all of us?”

“To heal me. And believe me it was out of desperate need. True death was upon me, I was past the point of healing myself.”

Beca had been so drawn by the vampire in front of her she hadn’t even noticed Aubrey and Chloe’s appearance. A cool hand closed lightly around her wrist and graceful fingers twined loosely with her own. 

Chloe's simple touch grounded her and she shook away the thrall of power. Athan's gaze sharpened on her but he didn't push his power. He simply stood there assessing her. His soft hazel eyes drifted away from Beca and over to Aubrey.

“And what could have brought one such as yourself to the brink of death, My Queen?”

Chloe stepped forward, her hand still clasped with Beca's. “The sun, Athan. After full submersion and fresh blood she was still burning from the inside out.”

There were hushed whispers and soft hisses of remembered pain at Chloe's description. The sun was a foe every vampire feared more than anything else. Even curses and necromancers. Athan turned back to look at Beca again, more speculative than before.

“Why would you do that?”

“A lot of reasons. I think Aubrey is necessary in breaking the Council. I think she is honorable and genuinely hates the system of abuse we all suffer under and can make it better. But mostly just because I love her.”

Beca turned her attention to Aubrey and held out her free hand which the blonde took without hesitation. Power pulsed through the room in time with her heart beat and Athan brought a withered hand to his chest with a staggered step forward.

Her power curled around him and caressed his aura making Athan gasp drop to his knees. He looked up at her and reached a trembling hand to her and then pulled it back fearfully and pulled up his hood to hide away from her.

He started to ease back into the crowd and Beca felt compelled to stop him. Her magic stretched out to him again wanting to explore and understand his condition.

“Wait! Please don't go.”

The aged vampire turned his head but she couldn’t see his face in the depths of the hood.

“If you think to break this curse, you cannot. Many have tried, all have failed.”

He turned away and slipped through the ranks and this time Beca let him. Now wasn't the time for that but she made a mental note to talk to Chloe and Aubrey about it later.

Vampires stared at her and she stared back. There wasn't much more she could say. It was up to them now, but she suspected Athan's opinion would go a long way in her favor.

“So…we good?”

There wasn't a resounding cheer of support but she didn't expect there to be. It was enough that many of them nodded agreement. Beca let out a deep sigh of relief and looked gratefully back at Chloe when arms slipped around her waist.

“Tough crowd.”

“Hm.”

“This isn't settled yet is it?”

The vampire gave a slight shake of her head, sending soft red curls tumbling over her shoulder. 

“No but we don't have time to coddle them. If we survive what's coming we can try again.  For now, leave them to Aubrey and come with me.”

“Okay. Where are we going?”

“To make out, silly.”

Now that was a plan she could get behind. Beca gave their blonde a glance and found her already addressing questions from some of the vampires assembled. Aubrey turned her head and caught her gaze with a quick wink. 

“You sure we shouldn't stay and help?”

“Nah, she'll meet us at the garage in a few. Right now I wanna be on you.”

“Well I do hate to disappoint the ladies so I'm in. Let's go.”

aisling has arms. two of them, in fact. and on her right shoulder blade, there's a small tattoo of a constellation of 25 stars, arranged to form a pattern that might hold no real importance to anyone. except, of course, aisling and those near to her. each star represents a member of her family. and the constellation, when arranged over a very specific map, reveals the locations of 25 safehouses aisling has reserved for those family members in the event of a crisis.

she also has light freckles that grow lightly more prominent during the summer, and you would be exactly right in thinking those arms give some world-class hugs!

Every Ko-Matoran from Ko-Koro has at least some knowledge of Birdspeak. Few speak it fluently but most understand it fairly well. Many of them had approached Matoro over the years, explaining that they had wanted to better understand their Turaga’s wisdom, and the translator had happily obliged and had been running secret classes for centuries. Nuju only finds out about this after Matoro’s death, so he is not allowed to be mad.

Kualus uses his scarf as an approximation of wings when speaking to actual birds. It conveys the meaning a bit more clearly to them, and makes them a bit more inclined to take him seriously. Nuju does the same with his Turaga robe.

-he’s very loyal to Logan and Haru, especially Logan. How can he not be? They’re his dads! He never expected for there to be more room in his heart and life for another person.

-oh but hey, that builder. Hm.

-even after being such a little shit to them in the beginning, he can’t deny that they still treat him with a certain kindness he’s been missing from someone like them.

-ok ok, so what if he kidnapped expressed adopted another parental unit? What if he’s trying to push them towards Logan? What if he’s secretly planning the wedding between the two and seeking covert help for it? Like, mind your own business pls and thanks

-he’s getting better with his manners but sometimes forgets them in his excitement or in a moment of distraction. But he makes up for it when he has his sudden bursts of recollection like: “can you help me tie this?” And soon after you begin- “dang, I forgot to say please. Can you please help me tie this?” Orrr you give him something and he takes off after maybe shouting “awesome!” Or “you’re the best!”, and that’s fine. He’s a kid. But then he’ll either reappear just as fast (kid is like the Flash, remember) or he’ll stop by your door hours later and like “I forgot to say thank you earlier. Sorry ‘bout that. Thanks for earlier!”

-big big big fan of affection from the adults he trusts the most. As soon as he realizes the builder cares for him and loves him? He doesn’t care how tall or old he is even as time progresses, he’ll go from hugging their hips and pressing his cheek to their waist at a fireside meeting, to hanging off them when he’s as tall as Logan, he’ll hang off them.

-not this boy being a long and threatening shadow and- oh. No. It’s just him draping himself across the builder’s back and complaining about his homework again.

-once he realizes how human Logan is and vulnerable at times, he tries to read the man better and keep him from any pain. Even at a young age. He does whatever he can to prevent Logan from enduring any more hurt than before.

-Qi actually likes him! Everyone including the two themselves are surprised about it. Qi was ready to talk this kid’s ear off as a lesson for knocking on his lab’s doors when Andy suddenly told him he wanted to know his thoughts on space exploration for a paper he was writing. Kid actually nabbed the scientist’s heart and now he’s got someone to obsess over space and the stars with. Qi won’t admit it, but he always has time for Andy even when he’s busy.

-family dinners are a must!!! Everyone’s gotta be there. The builder, Logan, Haru, Nemo, grandma Vivi, Rambo, Jasmine. It makes Andy happy seeing some of his found family together.

-he becomes the town’s errand boy for a few years and he actually enjoys it. It keeps him active, healthy, in shape, and expends the energy that used to drive him up a wall! He doesn’t mind running here and there. But he does believe in breaks! They’re important and he’ll chew a person a new one if they tell him to take his break later.

-please please please let the builder ask Andy to help with some commissions. He’s a smart kid! He knows how to read instructions! Lmao what is this? Swedish IKEA furniture? He’s got an active mind and loves when his hard work and efforts are recognized. Plus, he loves the builder and wants to help them. It’s literally a win in his book.

-Jensen thinks Andy likes trains, but really, Andy is just curious about the mechanics and inner workings of them. He won’t break his heart tho so

-Andy often finds himself lounging on a work table of the builder’s when he’s got a free moment and doesn’t have any responsibilities to get to.

-the builder’s home is a second home for Andy. If allowed to come at any time, any day, he’ll take them up on the offer. Bonus points if Nemo has been adopted by the builder too.

-Andy’s got his own throw blanket in their living room. His own toothbrush if he spends the night. His favorite spot to sit. His own books at the bottom of their book shelf. Even his own preferred dishes and silverware.

-Andy’s got a great intelligence and is made for activity and being tasked with things, but for the life of him, he cannot focus on homework if he doesn’t have the right conditions and hasn’t expelled his energy. The builder has gotten used to unlocking their door to find Andy sitting on the floor with his throw blanket over his shoulders, Nemo in his lap, and the child hunched over the coffee table with homework spread across the surface. This even carries on when he gets older.

-Andy likes to let Logan, Haru and the builder know he needs them, even when he doesn’t. So sometimes he’ll request their help with things he’s capable of doing by himself. Or he’ll take on more challenging tasks and ask them for assistance if he knows they can do it. It’s his wordless gesture that he sees their value and reminds them of their importance in his life.

-Andy demands Haru be made a teacher for math and science. He doesn’t have anything against his current one, but the boy has lived with Haru long enough to know how he works and what he has to offer for Andy’s education.

-the builder is the one Andy goes to when he wants to confide in someone. Logan doesn’t really mind it considering he’s the more apparent father figure in his life and he knows how Andy sees him, but he also knows how hard it is to be emotional at times and the builder is someone both of them can trust to take care of his feelings and insecurities.

-if Logan and the builder are together,

-Logan’s gotta accept the fact Andy really loves affection from his S/O, especially if they’re f!builder because of that missing maternal bond he lacks and they make up for. He’s fine with it, just jealous bc now he’s gotta sit on the opposite end of the couch when the two of them are all the way over there, cuddled and bonding. He’s fine.

-it really feels like a family with both his express adoptive parents under one roof with him and their pet (he’ll riot if it’s not Nemo. Literally.) Nothing makes him happier than having them together

-Andy won’t call Logan or the builder “dad” and “mom”- though, he has slipped before and did so, but that’s a story for another time. But he views them as such and treats them like they are. To strangers, he’ll refer to the two of them as his parents or mother/father. He’ll brag about them too because how many other kids can say their dad was an infamous bandit? Or that their parent saved a dying town? That’s right. No one. He’s literally the coolest kid around.

-lmao but if Andy doesn’t get his way with Logan or the builder, he’ll sassily go “whatever, I’ll just ask my other dad.” Before heading to go see Haru

-it never fails to amuse Andy when Logan tries to help his builder in his free time with their commissions only to end up breaking a part they needed because of his brute strength or it just being too tiny in his hands. The boy will be in tears and carve another notch (with builder’s permission) into the side of their work table for amount of times Logan has accidentally destroyed something.

-Andy loves walking Nemo around town to get the pup’s exercise in. He especially loves it when Logan decides to join him and how they could talk about everything and nothing until it’s time to head back.

-and the builder is always there too, waiting for them both with more love and adoration in their eyes than they both think they’re worth.

hmm not much I don't think? the only thing I can think of is something I don't even write and that's the CSA implications in rei's story. It's not something I think would come up much in threads anyway, but I avoid it because bc I wouldn't feel comfortable dealing with it.

oh man, basically everything i do here ! particularly the different relationships Rei gets to develop...i get legit emotional thinking about her slowly realising she matters as a Person and not as an object or an end to a means. I also love writing the dichotomy between her wisdom and her inexperience, because she's very wise and perceptive but at the same time is a child who's very limited in life.

i also LOVE writing hcs and metas!! there's so much to explore i never get sick of it. I haven't posted any of them yet bc i still have to make my thoughts coherent, but i especially love writing about rei's ""childhood"", as in her time as Rei 1. I also wanna write about the difference between Rei 2 and Rei 3 and explore how I can portray that in how I write them.

hmm both, really. when I read a reply from a mutual I find it very easy to pick out lines that stand out to me, which I then try to either incorporate in my response or build on how Rei reacts to it (which is always fun bc she's a very introspective character)

When writing I blurt out whatever comes to mind then spend a while re-wording + rearranging...a lot of the times i get stuck on a particular thing bc i want it to sound a certain way.

But when I can't start working on a reply right away I'll bullet point my ideas or any lines I wanna use then draft it so I don't forget.

I do ! I think at heart I'm very lovey dovey so I do enjoy shipping a lot. Writing and drawing a ship I have with someone makes me very happy, and it's always so fun developing the relationship and seeing how it blossoms. Despite this, I don't have many romantic ships across any of my blogs, but I don't really mind or care because I have so many lovely platonic + familial dynamics that I find just as if not more investing.

For Rei, in general she's not the most shippable. She struggles enough with making friends as is, and has so many emotional and mental struggles that make it difficult for her to connect with others. BUT she's also a sweetheart and always gives her everything into her relationships, so it's fun and very cute when she gets crushes <3

ZEUS

i don't actually think Zeus hates Ares contrary to what the lore says.

i think it's more that Zeus has higher standards for Hera's children because they are the "representatives" of the royal line moreso than the others since Hera is the current ruling Queen and also, being Rhea and Kronos' daughter, i think, makes her even more "legitimate" -- and so he expects certain things from them that he doesn't really expect as much of from his other kids.

also, i'm not sure that Ares is completely blameless. in my hc's, he's a bit clumsy, overly emotional, and not the most mature-- i think Zeus feels that if he's harsher on Ares, then Ares will "grow up".

i don't think Zeus gives Athena "joint dominion" over war with Ares to slight him-- i think Zeus is quite "all-knowing" (in brackets beacuse he's not actually all-knowing, but he knows quite a bit), and so he understands that his son represents the heat of the battle; the warrior's instincts, the brutality, the bloodlust, the survivor's guilt. all those raw aspects of war is what Ares represents... but that's not all war is-- there's also the strategising, the planning, the cunning-- and that's what Athena represents.

so i think Zeus does it because he knows that there needs to be a balance. and i believe Athena knows this too-- that's why she asks for that domain.

anyways. does Zeus love Ares? of course he does. i don't think there's a single child of his that he doesn't love. he's just tough on Ares because he wants him to be his best.

HERA

POSEIDON

honestly, i can see Ares and Poseidon getting along well. Poseidon is also a bit emotional and can go from laughing to crying in the flash of an eye-- just like the sea is temperamental, so is he.

so i think Ares and Poseidon have a lot in common.

when Aphrodite comes to Olympus, i believe she is found first by Poseidon who opens his home to her and they become very close.. so when Ares and Aphrodite become entwined, Poseidon obviously welcomes Ares very warmly.

furthermore, i think Poseidon would be one of the gods who says that Ares did no wrong when he had an affair with Aphrodite, and that it was largely Hephaestus' own fault for being so poor of a husband that his wife had to seek love elsewhere.

anyways, i'm not sure that Poseidon is particularly close with any of the younger Olympians, but Ares is definitely one of them and i think they would have a uncle-nephew type relationship as opposed to simply being friends.

i can see Poseidon trying to impart "words of wisdom" to Ares, and perhaps also telling Zeus that he's being too hard on the boy (to which Zeus of course would curtly reply that "he's not your son").

well, Hestia is sweet on everyone. i think she might be particularly close with Ares because he gets like, "bullied" a lot.

she'd make him fresh warm meals for when he returns from battles.

also, i think she give him this special little lantern in which the flame never goes out so that wherever he goes, he always has his home with him.

HADES

i think Hades and Ares would get along, but i don't think they're "best buds"... i'm sure Hades appreciates that many of his souls come from Ares' warmongering, but honestly,, i don't think they have much of a relationship beyond that.

ATHENA

i've already done this one here, but i have more ideas!! so i'm elaborating here.

ok, again, contrary to the way the lore seems, i don't think Athena hates Ares.

i think she knows that she's the oldest, smartest, and one of the most skilled gods in the pantheon, and so she acts like it. and that means she outshines Ares and she knows it. but in my hc, i don't believe she does that on purpose. she doesn't intend to sideline Ares, she doesn't intend to "steal" his domain from him... she's just doing the best she can and it just happens that most of the Olympians appreciate her way more than Ares'.

i think when Athena was first born, Ares hated her a lot. and i don't think it helped that his older brother Hephaestus was absolutely head-over heels in love with her and didn't think she could do any wrong.

nor did it help that his father was so overjoyed at learning that his first-born child had actually survived that he spent as many hours of the day with her to teach her how to fight and how to spar, and the history of the gods, etc... maybe he even spent more time with her than he did with Ares.

Hera, i think, would have been distant from everyone. she would still be reeling from Athena's surprise birth, pissed off at Zeus for bringing yet another child into the pantheon and decorating her so highly... this would be during the time that Hera plots to unleash Typhon on Zeus, so i don't think she'd be as great an aid to Ares as she should have been.

so i imagine that this all must have been very overwhelming and difficult for him... there wouldn't have been a lot of people to help him out, to make him feel appreciated.

but i think, no one notices the dark shadow looming over Ares more than Athena. and i think she does try to connect with Ares. at first, Ares is utterly indifferent... he ignores her, he walks away from her, he acts as though she isn't there.

but then, after some time, she manages to get a little sound out of him, maybe a smile. i think she mostly challenges him to fights. i think it's important to mention here that Ares is significantly younger than Athena. i mean, she's emerged fully-formed, but i think Ares would still physically look like a child,, maybe 10 or 12 yrs old max (as a human comparison)... so he acts childish because he IS a child. and i think Athena gets that.

for the time that he remains a child, i can imagine Athena putting away her pride to allow Ares to win every now and then, and that's how their relationship improves- because Ares no longer feels like he's been completely done away with.. he's still strong. but over time, Athena stops "playing nice" and Ares actually has a few wins with his own credit. of course, Athena would never admit that she had gone easy, and Ares will never know that Athena did this. i think that suits her character.

anyways, as adults, they do come at odds with each other often. i don't think they're besties, nor will they ever be. but i don't hc them to be as extreme as they're depicted in say, the Iliad.

ARTEMIS

i actually already answered this one, but i like the way i phrased things here, so this is a rewrite of what i wrote before:

i do hc Ares and Artemis to be close. i think Artemis doesn't have much of a relationship with anyone besides Apollo and Hermes, but i can see her and Ares being friends... both of them are sort of "outcasts"-- Artemis, by choice, because she doesn't want to be in Olympus, Ares, by circumstance, because of the nature of his domain.

but Artemis can tolerate roughness. she, herself, does or experiences so many brutal things-- she has a guy ripped apart by his own dogs, curses a girl for comparing herself to her, kills the children of a woman who boasts that she's better than Leto-- Artemis is cold like the moon and rough like the wilderness, and while i don't think Ares is cold, he can be like her. he be rough and cruel and mean and violent just like war is. so they are.. sort-of.. likeminded.

APOLLO

not much of a relationship tbh. i do hc Apollo to be the "big brother" of all the younger Olympians, and especially for the other male gods, they all kinda pester him. but i think Ares has never really managed to bond with Apollo the way i think Hermes, Dionysus, and even Hephaestus do.

Apollo is, comparatively, more gentle, a bit more flamboyant, more chill. of course he can fight and hold his own, but he's "a lover not a fighter" really. i don't think he chooses to fight. so i think he probably would like Ares.. and Ares would like Apollo. and they'd be as brothers are. but they're not that close. Apollo isn't the first person Ares goes running to when he's in trouble or he needs a pep talk or something.

HERMES

unlike Apollo, i do think Hermes and Ares are close. Hermes is older than Ares, but i think both are a bit mischievous and playful, and so they get along very easily.

i think Hermes would be one of the few Olympians who never "disregards" Ares.

HEPHAESTUS

it's complicated.

i think, ever since they were children, Ares has always admired Hephaestus. he envies how skillful Hephaestus is with his hands, how his hands are calloused and his skin scarred from metal work and creation, and not from fighting.

i can imagine Ares trying to also create- maybe a vase, or a small trinket, and failing miserably. it's never quite as intricate or beautiful as Hephaestus'. after all, how could it be? Crafting is not Ares' domain.

but i don't think Hephaestus has ever held this against him. he knows how much Ares struggles, and like any older sibling, does his best to support Ares and give him tips and tricks to help him improve.

i think Hephaestus is the first person Ares has always come to in times of difficulty. they have no secrets between each other. ever. they're so alike they can nearly read each other's minds.

after a battle, it's Hephaestus who's there, sharpening his blades, polishing his shields, shining his armour. and sometimes he'll scold him, "You broke your helmet again? You're going to get brain damage if you keep head-butting people. You're not a bull." and they'll laugh about it knowing that stubborn Ares will continue to head-butt people and break his helmet.

so they're close. very very close.

until Aphrodite comes.

i don't think Ares fell in love with Aphrodite right at the beginning. she was pretty, sure. but there are many pretty goddesses in Olympus... not to mention that Aphrodite was betrothed to Ares' own brother Hephaestus. i cannot imagine that two brothers, so close, could have maliciously plotted against each other.

but as i said, Ares and Hephaestus are between each other's homes often. and that didn't stop when Hephaestus got married. so i think, over time, appearing at Hephaestus' house and noticing how sad Aphrodite would be to be there all alone for many hours of the day while Hephaestus was in his forge-- it got to Ares. and i think Aphrodite made him feel noticed. made him feel appreciated. made him feel loved.

and so, things happened, as they do.

now, i do believe the brothers find reconciliation after Hephaestus strings Ares and Aphrodite up like the cover of a bodice-ripper novel for all of Olympus to see. but that takes a while. and i mean AGES. i think Ares' choices cause irreparable damage to the relationship he has with Hephaestus, and i do think, to a certain degree, Hephaestus simply cannot trust Ares ever again.

but if not, i do think they make amends. they start speaking to each other again. i like the idea that Hephaestus is the one to name Eros, Ares' first child. and he even starts talking to Aphrodite again.

but yeah. it's complicated and messy.

DIONYSUS

i think Dionysus and Ares hate each other. or, at the very least, dislike each other a LOT. i can't think of too many myths where they interact, but the one i can think of- Ares and Dionysus are on opposing sides of a war.

i like the idea of Dionysus and Hephaestus being best friends. they're very close. so i think Dionysus would be furious with Ares for enabling Aphrodite's affair.

and unlike Hephaestus, i don't think Dionysus is quite so forgiving. i think they'd have this weird sort of rivalry where they're always passing insults to each other and fighting.

i'm not sure how it started. i think it predates Hephaestus and Aphrodite's marriage. but yeah. i feel that they don't get along.

i do believe that Ares and Aphrodite were a better fit than Hephaestus and Aphrodite. i do not think Ares regrets marrying Aphrodite, though maybe he feels he could've handled it better in a way that preserved his relationship with Hephaestus and also got him Aphrodite.

i think both of them work quite hard to make amends with Hephaestus. neither are particularly malevolent in nature.

3. Obscure headcanon

severus: this is obviously a projection on my part but i hc that snape had asthma (previously discussed here and there was a LONGER one that even had germ theory and an entire meta about illnesses in the wizarding world discussed between @snapesangel, @wellpresseddaisy and myself but i can't find it SKDJSKDS) and certain things in the castle set him off like clockwork depending on the season. having grown up in a grimy old mill town with poor healthcare access will do that to a guy. the rest of the staff knew the turning of the seasons depending on the severity of his allergies and clowned him for it, but they’ve also learned to keep inhalers handy. somehow muggle-bred illnesses are best cured with muggle medication.

lily: lily had a morbid fascination for dead things. dead animals were a frequent find around the outskirts of cokeworth and she and severus would usually poke and prod to their hearts’ delight. severus was more squeamish about the whole ordeal though and would always be the first one to quit whenever lily wanted to play A&E Surgeon. he was fascinated however at the possible effects certain parts would have for potions and would often risk asking his mam 'hypotheticals'.

(both their parents would have been absolutely livid if they'd found out the children were playing with dead animals but severus and lily, in their childish wisdom, both made up for it by washing their hands and arms with soap until their skin stung at the end of the day; only tuney had come close at finding them out but she never completely succeeded)

16. Deepest darkest secret they won’t admit to themselves

already answered here for sev but here's another one:

severus: he didn't hate either children or teaching. there were few moments when he could say that teaching was satisfying, particularly if a diamond of a student managed to emerge from the rough (it happened all too rarely, but the few times it did happen, it was a blissful thing to experience), but he didn't hate it even on a regular day. there were times that children were more amusing than annoying, and the inane things they wrote in their essays sometimes made him cry with laughter rather than frustration. the years before potter were not as turbulent and were almost enjoyable.

lily: wanted badly to increase her station in life, with or without the rest of her family with her. it's not that she didn't love them but as the only witch in her family, no one else could have possibly understood how it meant to be poor and different in hogwarts, apart from severus. but severus was also in a different house and one that was ostracized by the rest of the school. lily was alone. she didn't want to leave the wizarding world and did everything to change her lot in life to make it better, so that she could stay. even if it meant considering james potter as a husband. even if it meant stripping herself from her past and never looking back. (and it wasn't that it didn't hurt; it did. but she had wanted this more).

18. What they’d go to see a therapist about

this is a hard question tbh because would they even consider getting one in the first place? :)) i feel like both would be against therapy for a lot of reasons, the strongest of which would be the complete denial that they needed it. but ok, let's assume that a miracle happened and they took that first step...

severus: increasing his self-worth and letting himself enjoy things. he probably also needed it for anger management. he probably never learned how to productively work through his emotions and therapy could help with that.

lily: marriage counseling lmao but really...i think hers and james' marriage was one of convenience, although i do play sometimes with the hc that it was a happy sort. other things she could have worked on in therapy is abandonment issues and increasing her self-esteem. i think both her and sev had self-image issues that they had to work on, mostly because as they were growing up they had to deal with intense gender role expectations that neither of them cleanly fit into.

they also both needed group therapy with their respective families. :))
