Any headcanons on why Rose's Rainbow Quartz looks the way that she does?
pearl + rose = rainbow quartz
(& what she tells us about their relationship)
here’s what storyboarder katie mitroff said about their fusion in we need to talk:
“I LOVE these two so I was absolutely ecstatic to draw this scene. I remember being really pressed to pack all of their passion and Pearl’s smugness into one moment that lasts the length of a guitar solo… and their fusion that’s just an embodiment of that into one giant, shamelessly beautiful dancer!”
fusion is the ultimate connection between gems and the personification of a gem relationship. it’s important to note that pearl and rose had a stable fusion, which tells us that they were in perfect sync physically, emotionally, & mentally. had they been too flustered, confused, not connecting well for whatever reason in we need to talk, their fusion would not have worked that way.
their dance signifies a strong emotional, romantic, sensual, and emotional relationship. it becomes someone who is unique, strong, & vibrant.
Tumblr media
boldness
everything about rainbow’s disposition, body language, & appearance is bold.
her boldness represents just how passionate pearl and rose’s relationship is, and she’s also a reminder of how their love started. together, they rebelled against homeworld, a place where diamonds and pearls are not considered equals. love between pearls and diamonds was unheard of and considered wrong. during the rebellion, when pearl and rose began to feel for one another, a ruby-sapphire fusion resonated with rose. she wanted to fight for the beauty of these relationships, and fight against those who perceived certain gems as inferior & relationships between “inferior” and “superior” gems as gross.
despite how not allowed their relationship was in homeworld, rose still looked pearl in the eyes when she confessed her feelings & replied with, “please, don’t ever stop!”
rainbow demonstrated everything they fought for in the rebellion, her boldness representing that they were never afraid to love each other despite the homeworld’s disapproval.
her stability and her boldness also shows just how sure they were. neither of them ever thought like homeworld did, not even a bit. this relationship would never be easy, and there was a lot of danger around them, but they were courageous and loved each other shamelessly, because they knew their love was beautiful.
but that’s not all:
“Rose falls in love with Pearl’s surprising boldness that comes out of left field.” — end of an era, page 86
rose’s consistent love for pearl is so intense yet such a second nature to her, such a part of her, that one of her favourite things about pearl shines through rainbow quartz.
Tumblr media
pastel pink, blue, ??? more on her appearance
rainbow does not look or act more like pearl or rose. rose does not overpower pearl, or vice-versa. for example, her hair is long and large like rose’s hair, but the tips of her hair and the color are very similar to pearl’s hair.
her exact colour palette is not quite known due to the tinted lighting of the music video. whether this be the creators’ intentions or not, i like to think that her unknown colour palette represents something about their relationship, too. pearl has early memories of rose when she would juggle, scribble drawings, struggle to control a spaceship, spend ages outside with her little playmate. their closeness lasted so long that not even their best friends could possibly know everything about their dynamic. no one knows about all the memories they share, simply because it would take a ridiculously long time for them to tell all these stories.
however, what we do know is that pearl and rose’s pastel colours really seem to show—lots of light pinks and blues. her movements are incredibly gentle and graceful. there’s a softness to her, despite how bold she is. i think this symbolizes the softness of their relationship, the comfort and sweetness. their fusion was initially thought of after they witnessed love. as a result of this, they also met garnet, someone who would be very important to them. their best friend, and together, they learned about and experienced all types of love.
her design is very 1980s, as this was reflecting the era. her dance skills reflect pearl and rose’s dispositions. pearl is very graceful, and her movements often resemble a ballerina’s. when she attempted to teach steven about his powers, she brought up creating his own dance. this is a pearl thing, not because she’s a pearl, but because she’s herself. it’s a part of her, and rose always encourages her to be herself. so, of course this part of pearl is shown in rainbow quartz. her dance moves also suggest a sensuality, and she shows this shamelessly. many other gems are more private about this sort of thing if this is something they’re interested in, but it appears that both pearl and rose were comfortable with being rather open about this aspect of their relationship at the time. not so much that it was uncomfortable for anyone, more in a flirtatious, implied sense. so, we have a dancer who is sensual like both of them, but she also has pearl’s type of gracefulness and rose’s type of playfulness.
Tumblr media
name & crystal
there’s also symbolism behind her name, rainbow. i know what you’re thinking, sapphic relationship and the rainbow flag. it’s funny, and it’s very true. but it’s not just this; throughout history (even around the time of their first fusion), the rainbow has been a symbol of hope. after a dark and gloomy rainfall, there’s a beautiful rainbow. after pearl makes pink disappear, rose reforms, and as sugar says, “the dust clears, revealing an endless honeymoon” (end of an era timeline). after the war, pearl + rose live together for thousands of years. heck, after centuries of being traumatized by homeworld, both together and in separate ways, they share a love that goes against homeworld’s rules, norms, and beliefs. a fusion is a relationship personified, and everything about pearl and rose’s love signifies something warm in the midst of something cold and dark.
i could have a whole post about crystal properties and how they relate to the characters’ personalities. but i’ll touch on this a little bit for rainbow. rainbow quartz is a stone that reflects every colour of the rainbow. how interesting, because white diamond stated, “as for me, i’m certain I don't need you. after all, i’m every color of the light! but you're a part of me… the part i always have to repress” in change your mind, when she spoke to steven, whom she believed was rose. “white believes that because her gem channels white light, she is essentially a gem light form all the time” (end of an era, 116). pearl and rose both know rose is a diamond, yet as a fusion, they are rainbow quartz. i believe this represents comfort, acceptance, trust, healing. we all know that rose was in a lot of pain, and no one could have changed that. she was deeply ashamed of herself, but a very important aspect of her relationship with pearl is that pearl knew. rose told her every secret she could say, pearl was aware that she was pink diamond, and she was aware of the abuse she experienced. she even saw some of it, as confirmed in now we’re only falling apart as well as pearl’s behavior when white diamond is brought up. rainbow suggests that pearl wanted to help rose heal from her abuse trauma. when she was with pearl, rose was able to feel better about herself & white’s voice in her mind quieted down a bit, even if it never completely disappeared. quartz suggests that pearl loved rose as rose and not as a diamond, and rose still felt comfortable as a quartz, as her new self, around someone who knew the individual she used to be. however, please note that things are not all good. it’s incredibly apparent, just how much pearl wanted to protect and heal rose. it’s partially why she became so fixated after losing her, it’s why she struggles to think about herself. in my opinion, pearl’s feelings for rose are a lot like the song two by sleeping at last: “no, i don't want to talk about myself; tell me where it hurts. i just want to build you up, build you up, until you're good as new and maybe one day I will get around to fixing myself, too.”
the rainbow quartz crystal is soothing, healing, and it radiates positive energy. this reminds me of the time pearl and rose explored earth. it was their first good day, their first safe environment, and they spent that day together. it boosts creativity and clarity, which reminds me of their personalities. rose is very playful with childlike wonder, and this gives her a brilliant imagination. she daydreams a lot, so much that it makes her withdrawn, so much that it can be distressing sometimes. pearl is logical and she was able to take rose’s rambles and jumbled up thoughts and say, “that’s a brilliant idea, here’s how we’re going to do it!” this is why they worked so well together, pearl being rose’s second in command. after the war, they had many successful missions alongside garnet who’s wise and balanced with a lot of leadership qualities, and amethyst who provides a different perspective and is also creative with lots of positivity.
Tumblr media
voice
there was this time when we were all very sad about the fact that we never heard rainbow’s voice. in the music video, she obviously couldn’t talk, then they let each other go after the song was over. i think this represents that, while they liked to show off certain aspects of their relationship, they also kept a lot of things private. they didn’t want to share many things and so much of their emotional relationship happened behind closed doors apart from obvious things they kept private.
rose also sounds different in now we’re only falling apart. in we need to talk, greg the babysitter, straight to video, buddy’s book… her voice is much softer. her laugh is much softer. when she was alone with pearl, she spoke loudly and rambled more and allowed herself to speak excitedly. i don’t think rose likes the sound of her voice. i think it’s an insecurity because she knows she’s quite childish sometimes but she wants to be different and she was supposed to be a leader on earth, but she questions if she even sounds like one. she permanently reformed as rose, but she could never change her voice, so it reminds her of pink. her scream once cracked the walls, signifying her pain and everything she’s trying not to be.
but in flashbacks from pearl’s perspective, we see a side of rose that really reminds us of steven! pearl highlights her awkward rambles, her loud and childlike exclaims that she has when she’s excited. pearl loved when rose was like this, she clearly seemed to think it was adorable. this helped rose relax more, but i like to imagine rainbow’s silence being a symbol of the fact that every time rose softened her voice or had an act that was not quite genuine, pearl would notice. she encouraged her to be herself, and the gems loved when she was as playful and genuine as ame is, but there’s still a lot that she’s hiding; still so much she’s ashamed of. it also symbolizes rose’s constant fear of hurting pearl, her guilt of hurting individuals from her past (even with her voice—her scream—itself). when they were together, rose was undoubtedly quite genuine but she definitely still had this fear of saying or doing something wrong and accidentally hurting pearl. sugar said, on page 95 of end of an era, that rose could never trust herself. although she could relax more around pearl, she had such low self esteem that she could never trust herself around anyone, as she feared she would hurt them. with this specific analysis and interpretation, the symbolism is even present in the episode’s title, we need to talk.
that being said, this is just symbolism and remember that rainbow’s actual voice could sound nothing like rose or pearl. a fusion is a completely new individual. we don’t get to hear rainbow’s voice, so we can only headcanon.
Tumblr media
concept sketches of rainbow quartz by rebecca sugar and katie mitroff
to conclude…
so, rainbow’s appearance and disposition says so much about pearl and rose’s relationship. however, there is not a lot of information provided, but there’s so much symbolism. as for the section with my headcanons… there’s a bit of information that led me to believe them, but some are simply based on her energy and demeanor.
i love her. rest in peace, rainbow quartz

i drew furirin with ruby and airi because she came to my city and i was able to meet her in person 🥰💜 she was very kind to all of us and did an amazing performance of her solo songs!! DAISUKI
i have a video of her singing Yuuki wa doko ni? Kimi no mune ni! with love live fans at the event she came to, Japan Weekend Valencia ✨💞 i cry everytime i rewatch it because she trusted that we would sing the "datte~ kyou wa~" part and let us do it ( ;∀;)
she said that it was her favorite love live song to perform and she also said that the aqourainbow in LA was her most precious memory as an aqours member 🥲🥺 yuukimi is my favorite song as well and it was my birthday so i was losing my mind... i'll carve this moment into my heart...
then someone asked her to reenact the "sexy home tutor" bit and SHE DID!!?!?!???? SHE WAS SO SURPRISED THAT WE KNEW ABOUT IT AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD 😭😭😭 top 1 unbelievable moments fr she's the best. i posted it on twitter, sorry, tumblr doesn't let me upload more than one video per post.
both videos were recorded by a couple of friends btw!! she also sang the intro of Cotton Candy Ei Ei Oh but it was during the sound test before the concert so there's no video of that </3 kudos to a friend of mine too for asking her to do it.
all of this was during the Q&A, but the whole day was one of the best experiences of my life. i was barely a couple of meters away from her during the events onstage, she wished me a happy birthday in spanish and then she remembered about me when i gave her this drawing later that day (she was signing merch and talking to the fans) 🥺😭💞
she genuinely seemed very happy to know that so many people were love live and proseka fans. we did the "ganbaruby" and "zero kara ichi he~ aqours... sunshine!!" with her and it felt like a real event with everyone's hearts connected... she took her time to listen to our individual thoughts during the fansign and tried to compliment everyone :') me and my friends were crying so much we could barely speak after talking to her.
this was her first time in europe and she said that she loved the city and the food and the beach 💙 the translator she had was also very nice and they both looked like they were having fun. i hope someday other aqours members come to europe, many people from other countries came here just to see her and i would have done that too!!

today's thoughts before passing out: the demon blood plot reading as a metaphoric fear of miscegenation, a result of classic Western tropes told through a Horror framework.
demon blood is a boundary crossing substance, invasive and transformative. Sam violated in the crib functions on one level as a rape metaphor, but its done so through demonic blood coming in to dilute his human blood. the violation then, comes in as a literal theft of identity. his body becomes the literal battleground between two forces - the domestic world of his family vs. the invading, monstrous outsider. Azazel snatches and preys on civilised children from the crib as a means of recruiting them to his tribe army, literally corrupting them on a bodily level, claiming them from their blood families as his own. and the more demon blood Sam drinks, the less 'human' he becomes (the less of his family's blood in him). Dean's anger over Ruby also ties into Sam's sexual relationship with her, of which the blood drinking is a component. the blood drinking is especially transgressive because it echoes deep-rooted settler colonial anxieties, expressed through the language of pop culture - fears over losing one's blood, family, and identity to a savage Other.

what got me started on this line of thinking was a recent rewatch of John Ford's The Searchers (1956), a movie so ingrained in the modern American cultural mythos that nearly every first year cinema studies course makes it required viewing lmao. it's a subversive Western, concerned with exploring the porous boundary dividing white settler communities from Native American communities, the defining line between the 'civilised'/'uncivilised', the colonial subject and the savage. it was released during an era when America was grappling with undoing laws around racial segregation, and reflects those anxieties through classic American mythology.
so. Sam is a modern interpretation of Martin and Debbie from that movie, and Dean is a modern variant on its leading anti-hero, Ethan Edwards (rather John is our initial Ethan figure, but we spend most of the show with Dean, who takes on his mantle). just to emphasise the connection between the show and this movie - Star Wars heavily references it, and Kripke's always been explicit about this show's two leads as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. well, i'd argue this show definitely owes more to The Searchers than Star Wars does!
Martin is Ethan's adoptive nephew of partial Cherokee descent, made an outsider to his family, by his uncle, at the film's outset due to his blood. he joins his uncle on his revenge mission after a Comanche tribe destroys their home and steals his adoptive sister - Debbie. this mission becomes his coming-of-age journey into rugged frontier manhood, as much as it is his path towards integration into white, 'civilised' society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the protagonist of the film is Ethan, a soldier who gets consumed by his seven year long, bloody, vengeance-fuelled quest to recover his niece. when he finds Debbie, however, to his dismay he discovers she's no longer the 'pure' innocent he remembers. upon finding out that she's married to the tribe's chief - he literally disowns her as his blood kin, and at one point, even tries to kill her. Martin becomes the one to save her from his uncle's shot and the one to convince her to return home. he later convinces Ethan to recommit to rescuing her, and he ends up doing so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(15.17 - Sam over s4 functions as a Debbie figure, but Jack also takes up her role. Dean disowns him as Ethan disowns his niece)
over the movie, we see Ethan descend into ever increasing violence and 'wildness', grown closer to his enemy after years spent on the frontier, hunting them down. Martin gets to go home, his civilising mission completed as he marries into a white family. Ethan though, stands at the threshold in the iconic concluding shot below. he's been transformed by frontier violence to the point he no longer belongs to the domestic, civilised world. he wanders back out into the desert, alone.

anyways. Supernatural owes so much of its dna to the classic Western, and to this movie in particular. what The Searchers was to collective white American anxieties over desegregation in the late 50s, this show was to collective white American anxieties over multiculturalism at the new millenium, in the wake of 9/11. Sam's demon blood is a critical defining line between him and his brother, as Martin's mixed race status is the defining line between him and his uncle. 'monstrosity' on this show metaphorically stands in for savagery; one brother gets thrown out onto the frontier, a journey towards 'taming' his own nature. and another brother drifts further and further away from civilised society the longer he spends fighting at the frontier, protecting civilisation from its monsters. 'blood don't end with family' comes to a screeching halt when it addresses the prospect of monstrosity. what is demon blood standing in for on this show? what does a monster represent, truly? who gets to step over the threshold into civilised society, and what is the price of that acceptance?

Persephone's Devotee (Hello, Mr. Monster AU, I)

Warnings: Implied child abuse/neglect, child left to travel solo, manipulating children for profit (non-sexual trafficking)
Tumblr media
A/N: Your bird just got diagnosed with a life changing chronic condition (in addition to being put back on depression meds). We'll see how this post does. Have four chapters planned. The last scene is based on personal experiences with heat exhaustion/borderline heat stroke.
Dream’s tools brought many things to Fawney Rig. Wealth and prestige. Admiration, gifts, and influence. Nearly everything the magus wanted and only a fraction of what he thought he deserved. Roderick’s dreams of power and riches drew another tool to his hand, or perhaps Destiny drew the magus to her. The girl who saw strange things in the dark and found answers to strange riddles in her cards. But her wyrd would always draw her to old house and its shrouded dungeon, in any world or time. All because of what the Burgesses kept there.
In the eight years since the fateful evening he summoned and caught one of the Endless, Roderick had become a man much desired. He found himself with an invitation to Lord and Lady Werthrope’s party, a guest of honor at a soiree at their country estate. They promised a night of occult mysteries and foreign prizes. Bits of people and places from across the empire and beyond. Mummies from Egypt and fragments of Greek antiquities to gasp and shriek over with glasses of champagne and brandy.
Roderick carried himself as Lord Werthrope’s equal, and at least for that night, surrounded by ancient mysteries of all kinds, he was seen as such. He was an expert, a guide, someone to hold in reverence rather than an oddity to gawk over. He told them with his bearing, his dignity, and the ruby he wore on a golden chain around his neck. His wishes became dreams and so became real. He stood like a stronger god beside the broken figure of Apollo and scoffed at the mistranslations of texts he’d only ever read secondhand.
Beside the wonders kept under guard at home, what were these paltry things? He could have any of them he desired, and he’d already claimed better.
His sense of superiority carried him through the party’s early hours, moving from acrobats in elaborate costumes, to fire eaters, to ghost stories and flights of fancy spun by swindlers far below his consideration. He had an answer or alternative for everything. And then he met the girl.
She sat at a bare table with no long cloth to hide rolling ankles, clever fishing lines, or knocking accomplices. Only a candle and a deck of cards separated her from the guests, and she’d drawn quite a queue. Her feet didn’t even reach the floor, swinging idly between the legs of the chair as she read the cards of a distraught-looking dandy.
Taking his arm, Lady Werthrope said, “This one you really must see, Magus. She’s made quite the splash in New York and London.”
The Magus offered a tolerant smile. “And what is the trick? Does she blow out the candle? Bend spoons?”
“Oh, no, nothing like that.” The lady practically vibrated, eager to impress as she led them to the table, scattering the line. “She sees things, and she reads fortunes like no one I’ve ever seen, and I’ve had more than a few pet psychics in my time. This one’s a bit of a sad story.”
The magus clenched his jaw until the muscle in his cheek twitched. He could make whatever sob story the girl shilled much worse. Of all the frauds and liars who feigned knowledge of the occult, Roderick Burgess hated mediums and ghost whisperers the most. The tantalizing promise of connection with Randal – always waved in his face, always ultimately denied – it clawed open the rotting wound in his heart, and he let the poison drip back on any fools who tried his patience.
Let this one try to pull the wool over his eyes, and he’d unmask her in front of this glittering audience. She’d be a penniless sad story when he was through.
“Those people,” the lady said, nodding to a couple flanking the child, “are just the adoptive parents. Saw her family murdered, poor thing. They say that’s what cracked her open to the other world.”
“Do they indeed.” He kept his smile, showing his teeth as his grip flexed over the cane in his free hand. “Then I look forward to her performance.”
The Magus and the lady sat across from the faux family, and the girl looked at them. The people who weren’t her parents did not manage her well, Burgess couldn’t help noting. They’d painted her up with rogue and kohl that made her look even more like a child playing grownup games, and the feather in her headband hung limp and lifeless. She barely managed to grimace through a smile, and she spoke with all the enthusiasm of a student reporting on Ovid to the class.
“What are you asking?” A child’s voice really shouldn’t be so dull. Now that he was nearer, the Magus couldn’t help wondering if she was even younger than he’d first assumed. Not even ten, he thought, and already so exhausted.
It wasn’t what he’d expected. He kept his guard, but curiosity stirred beneath. She was no great performer.
Lady Werthrope leaned forward, eager to take the first reading as the girl shuffled her cards. They were nearly too big for her to manage, but in this at least she clearly had much practice. Her handling of the tarot was the most natural element of her demeanor he’d yet to see.
The lady talked about her dog Moxy, a cocker spaniel much loved and terribly spoiled. It was getting on in years, and, well, ought she prepare for anything dreadful? Only, her friend had just lost her terrier, and she couldn’t chase it from her thoughts…
The cards appeared on the table. One by one. The Six of Cups. The Two of Swords. And, lastly, the Nine of Swords reversed.
“Moxy is well-loved.” The child pointed to the first card. “That’s the foundation. But she’s getting older, and she may go blind eventually. She’s accepted it, though, and you will, too.” She smiled a little, hesitantly, like a pet used to getting kicked when she barked at company. The Magus noted how her gaze flicked to her pseudo-father.
Lady Werthrope clucked and reached over to squeeze the child’s hand. “You’re very honest. And very sweet. Now, won’t you show the Magus what you can do?”
Obediently, she gathered the cards and folded the deck, shuffling them with the fresh energy of her next customer. “What do you want to know?”
Roderick considered. It was a little below him to ask anything specific of a child spiritualist, and he still meant to test her. Hate stirred the old thorn in his heart, and although she didn’t speak with ghosts to earn her bread, he didn’t need to justify himself.
“I’ll leave the question to you.” He squinted in a way that may seem affectionate, but it was only sharp, a predator focusing on little fawn to see how quickly it might run. “What do you see?”
She flinched, lifting her eyes from the cards to meet his in a fleeting, startled glance. Like he’d come near to guessing something she didn’t say out loud. But then she bent over the deck, back to her work as the woman behind her set a hand on her shoulder.
“Be good, Aisling,” the adoptive mother said. “Show the Magus your skills. Don’t embarrass us.”
The child rolled her lip between her teeth, sorting the task quickly. One card. Two cards. Three cards. Tap, tap, tap on the bare table. The Magician’s face glowed in the candle light, and Roderick blinked. A good tarot reader must have good luck in order to draw the appropriate cards – or a marked deck. But he’d watched those little hands like a hawk, and he’d seen nothing. It wasn’t definitive proof by any means, but Roderick Burgess knew himself to be cleverer than a child.
Pointing to the first card, the Magician, the girl said, “You’re the Magus. The Magician is your creation of yourself.” The second card was the Nine of Cups. “Your cups all overflow, and you enjoy the plenty you already have.” And then there was the Ace of Pentacles. Roderick wondered for a moment if she’d laid the cards out of the intended order, but she simply said, “There is new wealth coming. You’ve just found something that will bring you more good fortune. The benefits will grow in the months and years to come.”
“You’re very sure of yourself.” He looked for cracks, and there were many. Fatigue clouded her eyes and weighted the end of every sentence. Not a sign of a lie, though. She couldn’t even pretend to be happy for the audience.
He turned the interaction over in his mind through the rest of the night, wearing away the questions and presumptions like the rough edges of a stone, and by the later hours, he thought he might hold a jewel.
The adoptive parents made themselves easy to find. They hadn’t left the table. Neither had the girl. The lord and lady hired them to entertain, and they stayed at their posts. They’d gathered refreshments, but no cup or plate sat on the table, and he wondered if they had any idea children needed things like water after a long night of speaking with strangers.
Really. The scheme was too transparent. The only lies hid in any manner of affection the parents pretended for the child they claimed.
The Magus marched up to the table, rapping the top with his cane to seize the drowsy girl’s attention. She blinked, started licking her dry lips, caught herself, and pinched her mouth closed with her teeth.
“Aisling, wasn’t it?” He nodded to her, encouraging her to echo the motion. “I would like a word with you. No cards. No reading. Just a conversation. Alone.”
The father stepped forward, ready to defend his meal ticket. “Sir, I’m afraid we can’t just –”
“The girl and I will sit here, at this table,” he tapped it again to make his point, “and you will both stand over there.” The cane swung to point towards the bar, which was well within sight but well out of earshot.
When the man moved to protest again, Roderick pulled out his wallet, and the father’s mouth snapped shut. A few pounds bought the adults’ willing compliance, and they went off in search of drinks with barely a backwards glance. Roderick settled into the seat he claimed earlier, watching the girl squirm. Her hands fluttered restlessly between her lap and the table, clearly used to the cards, uneasy without the form and ritual of a reading to guide the conversation.
That was well enough. Roderick had his own plans.
He signaled one of the roving staff, and as the waiter approached, he ordered, “A lemonade for the young lady.”
With a bow, the server hurried off, and the Magus smiled, lips closed, tilting his head as his legs crossed under the table. He was not a client. He was an adult who noticed, who might be moved to care, and in the few hours of their acquaintance, he was already offering more than anyone else.
“So, you see things?”
Her eyes snapped from him to the people who managed her. Then back again, and down to her lap.
“I’m not supposed to upset people.” She picked at the fringe on the garish frock she wore – entirely unsuited to her age and clearly uncomfortable. “It upsets Mr. and Mrs. Foster when I see things. Or when I talk about them.”
The Magus nodded, unsurprised. He wondered if the people who adopted her even realized her talents were genuine when they snatched her up. They had too many connections and too much showmanship to be anything other than experienced con artists. This little Aisling must be very sensitive, and the truly sensitive didn’t see strictly good, kind, or encouraging things. How she must terrify the fools.
The server returned with a cut crystal glass rattling with ice. The girl thanked the server, then thanked her benefactor, and wrapped her hands around the condensation-slicked sides. She sipped carefully, and Roderick could see the tension ease from her posture as she drank. Desperate as she was, she didn’t gulp, and with clear regret, she set the drink on the table still two-thirds full. But she kept her hands on the glass, lest some waiter assume she was finished and spirit it away.
“I won’t be upset, and I’d like to believe you.” Angling his head down to peer at her meaningfully, employing a look he’d once used when his son misbehaved, he asked, “What have you seen tonight that would upset people?”
The girl looked around, shifting so her chair creaked. This time, it wasn’t her adoptive parents she feared. Any ears may be a threat. When she leaned in, the Magus copied her, silently assuring her the secret would be safe with him.
“There’s a guest who’s not a guest, and he isn’t a man, either.”
The Magus hummed. “Say I believe you. Could you prove it?”
Seduced into the invitation of an adult confidant, and revived by the lemonade, she rushed to answer. She wanted to prove herself. She wanted to be believed and heard. The Magus was listening, and he was beginning to believe as well.
“The man paid the footman with holly leaves,” she hissed in a loud whisper. “The footman folded them like bank notes, and the spines stabbed his palms, but he didn’t notice. Look for the one with blood on his gloves.”
“And the man who isn’t a man?”
Shrinking back, the girl shook her head until the headband went crooked. Her hand pressed over her heart, rubbing hard circles as her face creased.
“He’d know I saw him,” she said. “I don’t let them know I see them anymore.”
Now there was a tale and no mistake. A child with enough power to annoy things beyond the veil – one that survived an encounter – was rare indeed.
“What happened?” He lent his tone a shade of concern. Facts, he found, traveled swiftest to a sympathetic ear, and he needed to know everything. Curiosity was growing into practical fervor as the first dreams of a plan grew into place. “Are you ill?”
She crumbled just a little bit more, folding into herself to protect the place she rubbed from some invisible threat. “Sometimes I see things that don’t want to be seen. One of them – hurt me. There’s no scar, but it hurt me, and now it aches.”
The Magus donned a solemn expression, though he felt a thrill at the prospect sitting before him. The little girl had unusual skills, and though she wasn’t handled well by the adults governing her, they must still turn a pretty penny showing her in salons and private homes. He’d confirm what she’d said, of course, validate her little proof, but she was either a better liar than he’d ever met or she was childishly honest. He knew where he’d put his money.
Where he might very well invest it, actually.
He didn’t say goodbye, only nodding as he rose and went in search of the servant with bloody gloves.
Of course, he found him. When he demanded to see what the footman had in his pockets, the boy paled, stammering excuses, only to pull out a handful of forest detritus. As the young man fell into a whirl of confusion and disappointment, the Magus truly smiled. The first real smile since Lady Werthrope brought him to the child’s table.
He must have a proper conversation with the girl’s current guardians.
Aisling clung to her bag, drowning in the heat as the train pulled away from the Wych Cross platform. Men and women fanned themselves with hats and newspapers, desperate for a breeze in the dead summer stillness. Ladies shed their gloves. Men loosened their ties. Propriety mattered less when the air was trying to suffocate them, a crushing, inescapable oven scalding the usually damp countryside.
A miserable day to travel.
Sweat dripped down her back, soaking the neck of her dress, gluing her hair to her skin. But she didn’t have a free hand to stir a breeze. Her bag was too heavy, full of everything she would need in her new home, or at least everything the Fosters thought they couldn’t sell for a profit. Mrs. Foster took her to the train station and dropped her at the door.
“Here’s your ticket. You’re heading to Wych Cross, and then to Fawney Rig. Don’t forget, and don’t miss your train,” she’d said. Then she climbed back into the cab beside Mr. Foster and disappeared into the flow of London traffic.
They’d sold her on to someone else, and now they were free of her.
She peered around the station, but it was really just a platform. In London, there were helpful adults in uniforms and suits who pointed out the right train and the right stairs to reach it. Nothing here told her how to find Fawney Rig, though, and the only adult in a uniform seemed to be the man in the ticket booth.
She’d find her way. She wasn’t a baby after all. She was eight. And she could read very well, and no one was coming to help her, so she better figure it out.
She stood in line for the ticket man’s attention. Surely, he could give her directions. The Magus was rich, and a little famous, she thought, so his neighbors must know where he lived. If the man in the booth didn’t know, she’d keep asking until she found someone who did. While she waited her turn, she set down her suitcase and sat on it, taking deep breaths that tasted like salt. It could be worse. What if it rained instead? Well. Actually. Rain sounded very nice.
Soon enough, she took her place in front of the booth, and the man frowned under his mustache like she’d arrived with a bill or a letter from someone nasty. She smiled prettily, the way the Fosters told her to, and tried to make herself look like less of a problem as she clutched her case again.
“Excuse me,” she said, “but do you know the way to Fawney Rig?”
He physically recoiled, and his frown hooked deeper with glowering doubt as he scanned her. “Fawney Rig? That devil worshiper’s house? Why do you want to know?”
“I’ve been sent to live there, sir. I’m expected, but I don’t think they’ve sent anyone for me.” Manners made things easier with adults. Good manners and clear words – the fewer the better.
But the man wasn’t swayed. He looked thunderous. Like she’d broken something valuable and ought to pay for it with a lashing.
“Do you have money for a cab?”
The Fosters didn’t own her anymore, and they’d given her nothing but cards, and costumes, and a hairbrush. All the cash stayed warm and safe in their pockets.
“No, sir.”
“Then walk down the main road. Go east from the village, and keep going until there are no more houses you can see from the street. There’ll be a path on the left with a big iron gate. Follow that and you’ll find your devil worshipers.” He waved her off like he’d slap her if not for the glass. “Next!”
Manners got her what she needed, at least. “Thank you.”
The other adults all moved aside as she trundled through with her case. It made it easier to avoid clipping ankles and shins with her luggage, but she wondered if they hated her the way the ticket man hated her – because of Fawney Rig – or if she simply smelled after the long, stuffy ride in third class. Not that adults needed an excuse to dislike her. The nice ones called her uncanny and gifted. The mean ones called her a witch, and a bastard devil-spawn, and other names a mother should wash out of their mouths with soap.
She wasn’t sure which ones were telling the truth.
She knew the way forward, though. To Fawney Rig. That was good, even if the other adults didn’t think so. The Magus may not be a nice person, she hadn’t known him long enough for the usual adult lies to wear thin enough to see through, but he was smarter than the Fosters, and he’d given her a lemonade, so maybe she wouldn’t be as hungry or thirsty under his guardianship. She’d still have to work. Adults only wanted her if they thought she could give them something. But everything was more bearable with a good dinner and cold drinks.
She hoped he’d give her another cold drink, even water with some ice, when she reached his home. The train ride left her terribly thirsty.
Leaving the shaded platform, she bowed away from the sun’s violent touch and started on her journey. The village only kept a cobbled road in the center of town. It led up to the train station, linking it to a clutch of shops and offices. A parish church sat a little way back from the road, separated from the secular world by a field of tidy tombstones in heat-bleached grass. People noticed her. They looked. They whispered to each other. But no one waved or offered a hand. Gossip didn’t move fast enough to beat her here from the train, and she wondered how people could tell she was odd. Society had so many rules beyond manners, but no one would tell her what they were, and she never guessed right.
By the time the cobblestones ended, she was struggling to hold onto her suitcase. The handle kept trying to slip from her fingers, even when she held it with both hands, and she had to work harder and harder to keep it out of the dirt. If she knew anything about the world, it was that good children didn’t drag their luggage, and bad things happened to those that did. She’d travelled enough to learn, and she wanted to make a good impression on her new keeper and his household.
The road outside of town went a very, very long way. The ticket seller’s instructions made each step sound the same length: go through town, pass the houses, go down the long drive past the gates. Her imagination had lied to her, though. Every time she thought she’d passed the last house, there came another. Each handed her down the chain of cottage gardens and small homes full of families who pretended not to see. They all knew she’d done something, like she had a brand on her forehead, and she wasn’t allowed to stop. She didn’t try to.
Everything looked sickly yellow in the midday glare. Dust hung in the air, stirred by passing cars, lingering without a breath of wind to dispel the choking clouds. Everything looked flat and dead, so much so she almost missed the gate. Another leg of her trek done. Still too far to go, and the private road leading to the Magus’ home was longer than it had any right to be.
She didn’t feel well. The trees gave her a little protection, but her stomach and lungs felt hard, strained, the way her arms ached with carrying her suitcase. Only they were parts that shouldn’t feel that way, and she thought maybe she should sit down.
But she was almost there.
Even if she walked slowly, and her feet didn’t land quite where she told them to.
She just wouldn’t think about those things. Complaining was just making excuses, and she was expected.
The house appeared out of nowhere, or she was too dizzy to see it through the leaves before the last turn in the drive. It loomed, a very final-looking destination, and her suitcase escaped her grasp. The case was slippery, and her fingers didn’t curl the way they should. She bent to pick it up, and when she straightened, the whole world spun.
She stood very still until it stopped, and she found herself shivering as she approached the front door. Very strange. Was she afraid? No. That didn’t sound right. She felt terrible, too terrible to worry, and none of it made sense.
But she’d nearly made it. She had made it. Almost.
Knocking summoned a young man, and the door creaked open as he glanced down with a quizzical expression. “Hello? Can I help you?”
She tried holding her suitcase with just one hand, but it slipped away again, barely missing her foot. Maybe a handshake was a bad idea. The stranger hadn’t held his hand out for a shake, after all. She was just confused. He might not want to touch her. And she must look a picture after her walk.
She should’ve done something differently. If she were smarter, or taller, or…
“I’m Aisling Hunt, sir. The Magus sent for me.”
“Oh.” The young man’s eyes popped wider, and she wondered if he was younger than she thought at first. Stepping back, he pulled open the door to usher her inside. “I’m sorry. I’d heard someone was coming, but I’d thought you’d be… well, older. And I’m just Alex.”
“Nice to meet you, Alex. I’m Aisling.”
He nodded and plucked her bag from where she’d dropped it. “Yes. You said. Are you feeling alright?”
She didn’t know. And grownups didn’t really like it when she was unwell anyway. Before she could come up with a suitable lie that would get her what she needed without stepping on any toes, a familiar face appeared at the end of the hall.
“Ah! You made it.” Out of formal dress, the Magus still brimmed with authority. Aisling had met many adults who wore costumes and pretended to be something they weren’t, but the Magus seemed like he’d somehow stitched his chosen persona into his skin. “Welcome to Fawney Rig.”
She wobbled. “Thank you, sir.”
“Magus,” he corrected.
“Thank you, Magus, sir.”
At last, what he was seeing overshadowed his enthusiasm, and the old man frowned. “Did you walk here? From the station?”
“Yes, Magus.”
“The Fosters didn’t even give you money for a fucking cab?”
“Just the train ticket, sir. Magus.”
She blinked, and the whole room turned blue, like peering at the world through stained glass. It looked so pretty she didn’t realize the Magus was asking her another question until his hand settled on her shoulder.
His voice came from far away. “Can you hear me?”
Yes, she wanted to say. Yes, Magus, I walked, and I found Fawney Rig all on my own, and I’m not useless, please don’t throw me away yet.
But everything looked cool, and blue, and lovely. She was floating in it. Floating and so awfully heavy at the same time. The color slipped in with her breath, eroding her control until it slipped from her grasp like the suitcase had.
The world went dark, and she didn’t see, hear, or say anything more.
And deep below, in the belly of the house, Dream of the Endless waited in his cage, as senseless to the world above as she.

Could you go more into detail about how vol 9 called back to mountain Glenn, I must have missed it in my rewatch? If you already have a post about it that's fine too I'm just curious
9.4 -> collected most of the relevant lines here after the episode dropped (“most” being that i didn’t make the connection between ozpin in 1.1 responding to “i want to be a huntress” with “you want to slay monsters?” -> ruby in 9.4 defining a huntress as someone who fight monsters until a bit later.) but that’s the gist.
mountain glenn arc, oobleck asks them why they’re here -> yang starts to describe what a huntress does and he stops her to say “no, that’s what you do, i want to know why” -> wby offer surface answers that don’t actually satisfy them -> they discuss their fears/uncertainty/more complex truths with each other later -> on the train, each faces a solo fight with an opponent that embodies these fears. meanwhile a point is made that 1. ruby doesn’t get questioned, 2. because she’s seen as True and Certain already, and 3. she turns the question around on oobleck and his answer demonstrates the ironclad certainty that wby lack (& ruby is believed to have)
then in 9.4, the herbalist asks them all what a huntress is -> none of them can give a clear or satisfactory answer at first -> in the mist wby give their own answers as to what they are, answering the herbalist’s question with the same ringing certainty of oobleck’s answer (but crucially not answering oobleck’s question of “why”). meanwhile ruby having been denied the confrontation with her fears and uncertainties in mountain glenn, has to face those same things now and cannot come up with any answer at all because she has been stagnating/gradually crumbling under pressure for more than a year since then -> the blacksmith helps her find her answer to the herbalist’s question and gently tries to nudge her to consider oobleck’s, in a roundabout way (“who knows why?”)
which was really very vindicating for me personally because i love being right, and this also has me pretty confident that i’m at least in the right neighborhood as far as where they’re going with mountain glenn next bc the whole city is haunting the narrative 👍

Thoughts on Space Babies and The Devil's Chord, in no particular order:
So we agree that the overarching storyline for this season is stories becoming real, yeah? Starts with invoking folklore at the end of the universe, is solidified with the Toymaker and his rules of play, used heavily in The Church on Ruby Road, and now children's fairytales and musicals? Fascinated to see where this is going!
Generally ridiculously camp and bonkers and you know what, I goddamn missed that. It had whimsy. It had space babies and musical battles! It was fun and ridiculous and just. Felt good, man.
And it also had far-future dystopias and reproductive horror and slow starvation and suffocation and refugees and a timeline of depression and nuclear winter simply to create the universe's biggest aeolian harp so, you know. Doctor Who is back, baby!
Space Babies
Okay the episode was pretty fun and, at times, sweet (they saved the monster!) but oy the CGI/voice acting for the babies was… not great XD;;
Rani reference!
RTD detractors: "Ew, fart jokes with the Slitheen, so immature." RTD, writing an elaborate snot joke that ends with a colossal projectile shart: "Watch this :D"
Okay yes the projectile shart to get the space station moving is one thing, but, uh. How is it going to stop? XD;;
The nanny filter made me giggle each time.
I actually had to go back and check because I was squinting at the readout trying to work out what's weird and somehow failed a spot check and missed the fact that it had started snowing. Good observational skills, self. Anyway, the snow is definitely a Message. (Is it snow? Like I agree that it's connected with the day Ruby was born, but is what's falling in the church scene snow to begin with?)
Do you. Do you think the butterfly can regenerate now.
The Devil's Chord
Oooh, a Pantheon! Love a Pantheon. There's mention of the One Who Waits, speculation on whether 'the Oldest One' was there the day Ruby was born, we already have the Toymaker -> Maestro line, so maybe we'll be getting others? Also, the way Maestro phrased something earlier was fascinating too - "the Lord Temporal who sealed my father in salt". The Lord Temporal. There's been a lot of references to how the Doctor isn't just a Time Lord, maybe they're part of the Pantheon too, as the personification of time? Regeneration and Time Lord society all coming from this base primordial being?
Anyway I goddamn adore Maestro.
I wonder if we'll get Susan at the end of this season? (See: last link of this section!)
July 2024? So that's a good six months of travelling unaccounted for! Big Finish just going 👀
Semi-related but Ruby saying she was born in 2004 gave me a Crisis. Rose was 19 in 2005 and born the same year as me. Yeah okay I am good with that! Martha born in either 1986 or 1984, yep, fine, all checks out. But now there's a companion who was born when I was already an adult how is that legal.
"He ripped my soul in two." Oof.
The sonic actually did something sonic!
"I thought it was non-diegetic!!" I have so many questions. The walls are getting thin. Yeah, especially the fourth! (Random thought: Doctor Who official ARG?)
Lennon-McCartney saves the world! (I still like Harrison's stuff better.)
Apparently Murray Gold had a cameo but I have no idea what he looks like so it went completely over my head lmao
Missed opportunity to play The Devil Went Down To Georgia or The Devil's Trill, although we did get Danse Macabre and Rhapsody in Blue (which I put on as soon as the episode finished)!
Fun fact about Danse Macabre: "The solo violin enters playing the tritone, which was known as the diabolus in musica ("the Devil in music") during the Medieval and Baroque eras, consisting of an A and an E♭—in an example of scordatura tuning, the violinist's E string has actually been tuned down to an E♭ to create the dissonant tritone." (People hated it when it premiered. It made them feel anxious. Which is... kind of appropriate.)
There's always a twist at the end~ (I thought it was little H.Arbringer, but who knows?)

Doctor Who Christmas Special
(Spoilers)
I need to watch this episode again because I think I missed a few things but how awesome was Ruby Sunday and her chemistry with the Doctor? The way they were able to just join in the goblin king song and make up their own lyrics on the fly while saving the baby was brilliant.
Ruby’s family are so lovely and the Doctor made a good first impression for once. Glad Cherry Sunday got her cup of tea in the end lol.
Loved the Davina McCall cameo and her series of accidents caused by the goblins after she was filming Long Lost Family with Ruby. Then the Doctor goes back to save her from being killed by a Christmas tree. (The second time he’s saved someone from that fate).
There were a few things I was wondering about: when we see the woman who we assume is Ruby’s mother leaving the baby on the church doorstep I thought the Doctor would run after her to see who she was for Ruby but he just watched her walk away, the woman was wearing a long hooded coat, short trousers and boots in the snow. What if that was the Thirteenth Doctor? Say she found some abandoned alien/hybrid baby on Christmas Eve when she was solo traveling and left her at the church to be looked after, then when Fifteen goes back to save Ruby from the goblins he knows that the woman walking away was his past self so he couldn’t interact with her.
Then there was the neighbour Mrs. Flood, I thought she was class but was her scene at the end of the episode just a cheeky fourth wall break or something more? After she complained about the police box blocking the path she was camped out on her garden path on a deck chair with a blanket watching it, she didn’t seem shocked when the TARDIS disappeared and she encouraged Ruby to go into it and follow the Doctor. What if she is connected to the Toymaker or the Master or The One Who Waits?

This Doctor Who ep - Rogue...
Idk man.. felt kinda mid. I didn't feel like the stakes were high enough during that climatic scene with the trap until Ruby was put in the trap and even then I was feeling like "🤷‍♀️ release the trap and find another option. Theyre not gonna take over the world right away" and as for their safety - the doctor usually has trinkets up his sleeve to slow down the antagonists.
Rogue pulling the sacrificial swap and "find me" line may have been poignant, but all I felt was the tug at the Rose/Amy memory and no true personal connection to Rogue.
His interactions with the Doctor were somewhat cute, but I personally see the Doctor as someone who needs to spend a fair bit of build up to form romantic connections - not a few hours. This is a personal opinion btw.
As for any Jack Harkness comparisons people are discussing- I would like to see Rogue as their own person but can't help but also slightly agree. Maybe show runners were thinking more of a Hans Solo person than Jack. But I'm not a Star Wars fan so that comparison isn't something I could accurately back up.
Indira Varma coming back to play The Duchess and also playing Jack's second in command Suzie Costello in Torchwood is a thought to be thunk. Or just the bbc reusing actors because they do that and only have 10 actors for hire on rotation 🙃
The fact they couldn't get Beatles songs in The Beatles episode but they're able to get Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and KYLIE MINOGUE in this single ep. Lol.
Further mentions of TV programs in this ep to add to the fandoms tally of "lots of media mentions perhaps hinting to them being inside a TV program itself".
I think that's all my thoughts so far for this ep. I may have more later on after processing it.

In that pleasing tiktok which, he's wearing rings again which he hasn't been since the shows I think. Do you know if there's any significance to those specific rings?
It's also interesting they deleted the one using style fast which makes me wonder if some intern accidently did it otherwise makes no sense.
Hi Anon, thank you for the ask. :)
An account like Pleasing would probably have quite robust approvals for a TikTok, I'd say especially with Harry's hand, so I think that chaos was intended. Pleasing's Tik Tok has a clear soundscape that doesn't fit with. So I don't think intern, I do think HS knew and I think it was deleted because he's particular and cares about it being cohesive. Once it went viral they didn't need it the deletion adds to the mystery.
The rings he wore in the TikTok today are ones he wears quite often:
H&S are custom Gucci, he's worn them since 2019 and represent himself. An etched version is available for sale
Stevie Nicks gifted him the large pink stone ring in his first ever show at the Forum for Fine Line's launch in December 2019. He wore that in the Falling Music Video also.
The Ruby Ring is one he has had since May 2017 when his Debut Album came out, I think it is about his solo career, but it's a ruby...
The mosaic ring appeared in 2021 I don’t know the meaning but it’s so pretty! This posts thinks it could be about Robin. Alessandro has a similar ring
The pearl ring has a woman holding the pearl and also appeared in 2021. I have more detail on this here First seen at the Grammy's March 2021, Peace ring not seen much since.
And it looks like his Gucci lion on the end
Tumblr media
He doesn't talk about them so we can only guess any meaning, also impossible to know if the first time we see a ring is when he got it, unless it changes hands like the Haylor one. The ones wonder if may be to do with Taylor are:
the Rose, he wore this 6 March 2017, just before his first solo album. He wore it all through the promo and was lost at an Ariana Grande Concert in August 2019 and he seemed worried. The reason I wonder if it could be connected to Taylor is the rose. He references roses in LOML Lyric video, she only uses roses in Lyrics, videos in connection to him and he got the rose tattoo while they dated. He wore it on the cover of Rolling Stone when he left the table when the interviewer brought her up.
Haylor Ring - it was hers, she gave it to him in 2014 when Style came out, he wore it up to 2017. It's in his last B&W Instagram in 2016 and on Carpool Karaoke in 2017.
Gucci Lion - he has at least 3 Gucci lion rings, silver with a purple stone, which is a custom combination, gold with a black stone and gold with a purple stone. He got all 3 in 2018, first seen in silver in Japan in October 2018. Taylor wore the earrings from same collection in the lAWYMMD video 10 months before he wore the ring. Gold first seen here October 2018 when a fan found it at Coachella it has an inscription of 'second time's a charm'. Taylor wore one at Electric Lady Studios to the wrap party for 1989 TV in April 2023. Taylor also wore one at Zoe Kravitz birthday in maybe December 2021. Taylor & Gucci lion
Ruby ring, It's also on the Rolling Stone Cover from 2017, and at the Today Show when he played Stockholm Syndrome in May 2017. IDK - it's red, he refers to her as red in his songs (e.g. grapejuice) and they started dating in the Red era and I think it's his favourite album of hers, he refers to it a bit. But this and the Rose may just be about his solo career.
Grateful Dead ring it appeared while they dated in 2014, she referenced it in Delicate.
Peace Ring appeared while they dated in 2013, the timing and that he also wore it during the Falling Music Video along with the Ruby. I have a detailed post about this ring and why it is Haylor.
Other rings:
The Camille ring - an oval garnet he wore while they dated from July 2017-2018. Different to the square ruby.
Bear ring - not seen in a long time. From 2013
This round gold stone or diamond ring from September 2021

Okay, now that I’m thinking about it, I can’t stop.
Imagine how cool it would have been to see Knuckles use the Master Emerald in forces. We have Infinite thrashing the resistance the phantom ruby’s powers, why not match that with the Master Emerald?
And Knuckles could have had the chance to show off all the cool things he could do with the Emerald.
Like, imagine a moment where Knuckles decides “No. Enough.” And begins wielding the Master Emerald for the sake of the resistance.
Maybe he’d be able create a safe zone or heal injured fighters. Maybe the m.e could let knuckles nuteralize the phantom ruby’s illusions, or he’d be able to sense if something’s real or an illusion. Maybe he could restore land damaged by the battle.
If Knuckles chose to use the m.e he could probably solo sections of Eggman’s army.
And imagine a fight between Infinite and Knuckles with the both of them charged up with their magic rocks. You could get so creative with their fight. Both of them could mess around with physics and reality.
And with a few writing tweaks Infinite could work as a foil to Knuckles. Infinite is so arrogant about his power, while Knuckles humbly guards the power available to him.
Infinite screaming about ‘not being weak’ Vs Knuckles and his genuine strength not just in body but in character to.
And there’s something interesting about how a couple of lines in ‘infinite’ parallel ‘unknown from m.e’ if it was written by an edge lord.
“I was born in this pain it only hurts if you let it” vs “Won’t be frightened, I’ll stand up to all the pain and turmoil.”
They both start talking about how rough and tough they are, and Infinite keeps that up and stays mostly surface level. while unknown from M.E shows off that Knuckles is much deeper than that and has a softer side.
and if you want to give them a visual parallel Knuckles could transform with the M.E and instead of entering a super state he looks mostly normal aside from a green gemstone sticking out of his chest, but since he’s always had a connection to the m.e it seems far more natural.
This is getting really rambley but I have so many thoughts in my brain about this. Knuckles using the m.e in forces could have been so cool!

Splat OC time! They’re all major characters in my horror au :3
Ruby’s quite the cynic, as they’ve become partially sanitized. They don’t think they’re ever going to escape the Deepsea, but deep down they still have a sliver of hope they can escape.
Anna is a friendly worm who like many others of the Deepsea, wants to go back to the surface. But she would feel guilty doing it alone, so she offers help to anyone who accepts. She has been separated from most of her companions, and worries that her time with Ruby is going to be short.
Cypra is a solo idol, and even without a partner, her cheery personality carries her heavily. For some reason though, several of her peers seem to want to distance themselves from her…
(oh and please, if you want to make fanart of my ocs, please don’t do anything sexualizing or blorbofying Cypra, without spoilers she’s part of the horror stuff in this au even without being connected to the Deepsea stuff)
Also if you can figure out the meaning behind their names of these fellas you get an imaginary cookie :]

For your ask game: someone you hink Meg should have interacted with more
ME come pick me up babe. But in universe......hm!! Cas is the obvious answer so let's take megstiel off the table.
I think her and Sam could have had a stronger connection later in the show. She was his villain first and got poached (as all his villains do lmao!! Poor Sam!!!) I think them having a serious conversation or interpersonal conflict would be interesting to explore how they've both grown and changed. This would also strengthen her place in Team Free Will 1.5.
Oh!!! Or of course her and Ruby. WILD that they had 2 demon girlies operating around the same period and they never met (it's because they're stock Demon Woman archetypes only elevated by their performances. Who said that). Oh I am suddenly thinking about Meg and Mary hanging out hold on femslash has consumed my brain. Hnnng she should have beaten up Jo again. Or a her and Jo solo episode where they become frenemies and/or frenemies with benefits. Then they could BOTH beat each other up...!

Fixing Dragon Quest Monsters 3: The Dark Prince by adding more story part 1-
1. Psaro genuinely doesn't seem to remember Dolph or Ludo before they are mentioned to him and when Ludo asks if he remembers Dolph if you say "Yes" he doesn't really comment on it but if you choose the "No" option he replies with, "Well, it has been a long time" which makes me believe there's something being hinted.
Wouldn't it be interesting if just after kidnapping Psaro from the castle, his mother Miriam took him to a mage friend (her family were royals. They must have had SOME connections) and had Psaros memories removed and sealed away into books.
Psaro and his friends now must scour the human world in human guise to find and retrieve the books that contain Psaros lost memories for some reason. Maybe he has info on some of Aamons followers, maybe he needs info on an old project of his fathers, maybe he desires his memories of Ludo? Maybe all of these?
Bonus points if Psaro just gets a recolor and human shaped ears. Like, he now has brown hair and brown eyes like his mom and wears his hair in a similar way too.
More bonus points if someone who knew his mom tells him he looks just like her and he learns a bit about her past
2. Roses ruby tears shatter, and it's implied that this is not a normal thing, but this is never explained. Conclusion: Rose is half Elf and has Zenthian, and she's being used as a Zentian spy and is forcing her to do this by holding one or more of her loved ones hostage
Why? Idk I thought it would be an interesting twist.
3. Ludo has retreated into his "new world" with his mother and warned Psaro that once it is complete the world he's living in now will begin to erode. The battle is not over.
Psaro must find a way to defeat Ludo, his precious baby brother, once and for all...or does he?
After all, the Three Secrets of Creation were said to have been used by the Goddess to create the universe. Perhaps if he can gather all three, then this world wouldn't need to be sacrificed to create a new one. Psaro already has the Supreme Secret of Evolution, thanks to his father. He just needed the other two.
He still refuses to steal, but like Toilen Said, something won in a fair fight was okay. So he just needed to defeat the gods in combat and take the Secrets as his prize. Easier said than done.
He would also need to take the throne as Master of Monsterkind in order to have the manpower and influence needed to complete some of these tasks, which means earning the ire and attention of the heroes. Solo had warned him not to take his threats lightly, and Psaro entended to heed them.
But he needed to do this. The more he regained his memories from his childhood, the more he remembered Ludo. He couldn't bring himself to abandon him, nor could he bring himself to betray the world.
He needed to save both his baby brother and the people to relied on him as king.
Even if it killed him.
